00:00:15welcome back to another edition of new york got game for the first time following the parade
00:00:22following the knicks championship we're on to offseason stuff we're talking about the nba
00:00:27draft and this might be a different nba draft upcoming for knicks fans than they're used to
00:00:33because the knicks we can say the knicks are world champions they have gone to the top of the mountain
00:00:39they have done it it is all done but we're here to talk about the nba draft also recording and
00:00:45dropping this on father's day so happy father's day to all the dads out there salute to you
00:00:50we're talking about the nba draft it's gonna be very interesting one for the knicks because it
00:00:54is an interesting offseason as his team will look to repeat so joining me to talk about the nba draft
00:01:00the guy i had with me last year he's the host of the off the ball podcast you also see

00:01:05knicks fan tv doing some contributions there with the draft college basketball grew it's my guy

00:01:18world champions you know so we're doing this unlike last year coming off the the tough
00:01:24eastern cop was lost to the pacers it's a different feeling this year talking about the draft because
00:01:30you know we're world champions world champions thanks for having me on happy father's day
00:01:35including yourself you know so i'm excited to talk about the draft for our defending champions of the
00:01:41national basketball association our new york knicks so i'm excited man yeah no i think a lot of
00:01:46knicks fans are are excited about this i gotta ask you before we get into the draft what was this
00:01:52run
00:01:52like for you everything like experiencing it through the parade just a whole run what was it like for
00:01:57you as somebody you're always looking at prospects and thinking of a head for this team but if we can
00:02:01live in the moment for a little bit now and just look back at this spring for the knicks what
00:02:05was the
00:02:06experience like for you man i was so locked in on this like there was times like obviously i do
00:02:11my
00:02:12homework on the prospect but there was time there was days where i didn't even think about
00:02:15you know this prospect or you know who might drop it i was just locked in on the playoffs you
00:02:21know
00:02:21and this run because it was just such a magical run and it really felt like this this might happen
00:02:28we might actually do this and unlike last year where you're like after game one of the eastern
00:02:33conference finals where everything just collapsed you're like okay this feels good and like so like
00:02:38i i i i ramped back in with the draft and and and i almost forgot that the draft is
00:02:44like we won the
00:02:44championship and i'm like oh the draft was like in a week oh i gotta get back in the get
00:02:50big i can draft
00:02:50mode you know back you know watching some some stuff from some guys and and just focusing on the
00:02:56targets the the knicks you know with their graphics and focusing on targets potentially who could be
00:03:01there you know who could slide you know some sleepers so like i'm back locked in on a draft but
00:03:06this
00:03:06this run decks was absolutely i i just it was emotional you know shed some tears i ain't gonna
00:03:12lie of course you know it was emotional but you know it's one of the it's you know i put
00:03:17this up
00:03:17there with the giants of the 07 run that to me was my favorite championship run but this this next
00:03:24one
00:03:24tops that one and that was special i don't you know that wasn't a special one but this one is
00:03:30just
00:03:30different and just like there's more togetherness you know it's not like we talked before like
00:03:34jets giants 50 50 you know men's yankees 50 50 but it's predominantly if not almost you know we got
00:03:42the whole pie essentially so it was like more people embracing so it was like it was great so
00:03:47it's just it's been phenomenal man i know i know you're on cloud nine with that too oh man
00:03:51nick fan oh man it's it's been great like even at the parade i think you saw what you were
00:03:56talking
00:03:56about right just how much of this city you know if you didn't know i think we all knew it
00:04:00the next
00:04:01to new york's basketball team we we all we all knew that and you know and you know it's funny
00:04:07when we were when we i figured i'll have you on for this because we did this last year and
00:04:11then for
00:04:11some people may not know the last time i saw you in person um and i saw you again i
00:04:17think that was
00:04:17like after we recorded the show so we were like agency and i ran into chris on staten island ferry
00:04:22of
00:04:23all places and we had never met in person so it's crazy we ran to each other on staten island
00:04:27ferry
00:04:27and we were chopping it up and we kind of were like okay what's this team gonna do you know
00:04:31next
00:04:32year do we think they could do it have they made the right moves the right pieces and to see
00:04:36where
00:04:36they are now to get to the mountaintop as i mentioned before it's just dope man the energy
00:04:41around has been dope i've talked about it before i've just i've loved it you know and somebody grew
00:04:46up a knicks fan and is saw the energy around the city nah man it just was it's tremendous it
00:04:51brought
00:04:51the city together unlike i've ever seen in i've never seen it york i mean yeah it was just like
00:04:58everyone's happy everyone's smiling everyone's dapping each other up everyone's being extra nice
00:05:03holding the door you know making sure you don't get hit by a taxi you know but you know just
00:05:09like
00:05:09it really felt like even people who don't watch but i know people at my job don't can't tell me
00:05:15a
00:05:15player on the knicks but they were like the basketball game yesterday you watched it yeah
00:05:20and then oh it's crazy they came back from all those points it brought back people who probably
00:05:25don't watch or stop watching because you know the bad times with the knicks and like this really like
00:05:30really brought the city of new york together it's i hope this is is the start of like you know
00:05:38new
00:05:38york you know getting back to what we always were that you know family and i think it's more
00:05:43family than people you know think but i think the city this really brought the city together i think
00:05:47we're doing the city of new york is going to be on a nice little run here because
00:05:52you know i just think that this really helped a lot in more ways than you think not just basketball
00:05:58but just united together in the city yeah i hope so man the vibes the vibes were immaculate as they
00:06:04say the vibes were immaculate right immaculate and just like you just everyone's at the extra
00:06:08grand everyone's like i said everyone's a little chirpy you know everyone's a little happier
00:06:12you know it really it's crazy how much this championship run just brought the city together
00:06:17so i'm happy i'm happy for the city i'm happy for our knicks that that drought is over we don't
00:06:22have
00:06:22to hear about people say oh yeah yeah i don't have a championship since clive was doing that you know
00:06:26we gotta hear that anymore we gotta hear about the brunson stuff oh he's a ball hog oh no he's
00:06:31towns oh he's soft all this they're champions man that's all that matters mike brown oh he got
00:06:37more time he gonna get fired again he can't coach you he's a world championship head coach he's
00:06:42been a champion assistant coach he's a world champion head head coach that respect on all
00:06:48their names man i agree i agree well let's let's get into it chris because as you mentioned and
00:06:54we've been talking about knicks are coming off their first championship in 53 years
00:06:57in this draft they've got picks 24 31 and 55 so i guess my first thing to you is if
00:07:07you're leon rose
00:07:09and i guess are you looking to add three young players here are you trying to use some of all
00:07:15of those picks to improve the roster right now which and which approach do you think gives them
00:07:20the best chance to repeat which which of those approaches is it selecting three young players is
00:07:26using some trading with others maybe stashing some what do you think is the best approach it i i i
00:07:31all
00:07:31think it's predicated on what they feel about you know the market with mitch you know and they bring
00:07:37it back at a nice number you know if they feel like that's obtainable then that maybe they can
00:07:42you know that that'll help dictate what they're going to do in the draft so that's something we
00:07:46don't know yet so it's kind of hard to tell but i i think i don't think they're going to
00:07:50use all
00:07:50three picks i mean we saw dolan said we're not even gonna the second apron is not even
00:07:55we ain't doing that so i could see a world where and they've done this before on the leon like
00:08:00they punted out of the first round completely i mean a few years back when they took um
00:08:04um uzman dien when uzman dien was olympic and okc took him they traded out of that pick and
00:08:09completely out of the first not even like hey we moved back no they punted out of the first round
00:08:14they've shown that if their guys aren't there they're not going to move up even if it's just
00:08:18a pick or two they're not going to move up so i could see a world where if if whoever
00:08:23if it's
00:08:23biggs or if it's a certain wing or or maybe a guard that drops because there's a whole bunch of
00:08:28guards and i think one will couple will drop that they're just like we're just going to punt
00:08:32we're either going to you know go back for next year's draft try to get some more picks obviously
00:08:36the nets still have some of our picks you know so maybe try to get an extra first in you
00:08:41know in a
00:08:41future draft you know maybe because that seems like that's the wave to to go is get that extra
00:08:46pick because you just don't know what teams are going to be just in three years you know you can
00:08:51have a lottery pick out of nowhere you know so i could see that happening i don't see a world
00:08:55where
00:08:55they take three guys um but um i could definitely see them trading back you know i i don't see
00:09:02a
00:09:02trade-up though i just don't see them there's a world where they trade up you know including the
00:09:0731 24 i don't see where it just hasn't been leon's way but you never know maybe he changes his
00:09:13mind
00:09:13maybe he has in the fascination with with a player that we don't know he likes zubiella maybe he likes
00:09:17zubie a lot and he's willing to trade you know you know all the picks from this year to move
00:09:22up to
00:09:22five slots just to know he can get his guy so i don't know but i i i don't see
00:09:27a world where they
00:09:27do that um because i that's not how that's not leon's mo so i think they'll see the stay put
00:09:33or
00:09:34if the guys aren't there they're going to trade down and go into second round yeah i think it'll
00:09:38be interesting and then they have the obviously the first we talked about 31 they got the first
00:09:41pick in the second round there so it's like they could trade down they could kick it back to future
00:09:45first future seconds um so there's some optionality there too i think you mentioned you just
00:09:52mentioned so much of it has to do with what happens with the market for mitchell robinson
00:09:55you can also add landry sham it to that factor too so when you look at this roster this championship
00:10:01roster let me let me put respect on that this championship roster chris let me let me make
00:10:06sure i say that what do you think is the biggest need that they have to address this offseason is
00:10:11it
00:10:11front court depth particularly if mitch leaves is it adding more shooting if sham it leaves is it
00:10:16another ball handler or is it something else what do you think is the biggest need they've got to
00:10:21address this this offseason i would say adding another front court guy even if mitch stays i
00:10:26think well ariel poor i think you could still get another guy to battle with him because there's
00:10:30moments ariel has moments where he looks like he could be a capable backup big but then there's
00:10:35moments where he gets he has two fouls and two minutes so i think i think you still should think
00:10:41about adding even if you do resign mitch adding another front court guy to battle with ariel
00:10:46for that third big man because that third big big man minutes it could be very important because
00:10:51mitch is going to miss mitch is going to miss time you know so you're going to need another big
00:10:55there
00:10:55that can give you quality minutes behind town and stuff um and a wing off the bench i think would
00:11:01be
00:11:01ideal uh and because i think size is important positional size is very important as we've seen
00:11:06in the playoffs especially with san antonio and the knicks you know he's got a lot of size i think
00:11:10you
00:11:11need that um and then i wouldn't be crazy if they had another ball handler because i just value
00:11:17potentially at 24 or 30 you can get a at you can get a top 15 to 20 guard and
00:11:25get them at 24 like
00:11:26there's some nines i'll and i'll talk about we'll talk about that that potentially could be there that
00:11:30most are really like top 12 lottery level players that are going to drop because if there's this this
00:11:38this is a guard late in draft that are filled with potential all-stars so like if if you get
00:11:44one
00:11:44of those guards at 24 do you take them and then have them learn from you know you know uh
00:11:48the captain
00:11:49that's that's ideal too and then give colic a guy to compete with because i the colic thing is still
00:11:54weird because like it felt like they didn't like him then they loved him he had that stretch you know
00:11:59where are you on him where are you on him based on what you saw from last year yeah i'm
00:12:03still a colic guy
00:12:04i i still believe him he showed it he showed it when he did get the opportunity do you think
00:12:09he
00:12:09can hold up enough defensively as a back he's been the thing but as we've been able to show with
00:12:14brunson if you put the right guys around them and mask it he can do this thing i still think
00:12:20he's the
00:12:21best playmaker on the team colic i i'd agree i definitely agree with that that's his elite skill
00:12:25that's definitely his elite skill and if if alvarado and this also predicated with alvarado if he
00:12:30if he did if he comes back if he picks up his option or not right option because i think
00:12:34teams
00:12:34are going to want to want alvarado he showed that he's very very and he's just he was just as
00:12:39valuable
00:12:40as anyone else on this team because those minutes when brunson went down are very we're we're crucial
00:12:46and if we don't have him there we actually might be talking about a whole we're gonna have this tone
00:12:53right now i'm not wearing maybe not wearing his shirt you know and we're very we don't got to
00:12:57think about that that's how important he was so a team yeah and be like you know let's give him
00:13:0310 million dollars a year and if you're alvarado you're one of those guys have been getting you know
00:13:07mid-level guy you know contract you might have to take that and go and same thing with
00:13:11landry shaman and mitcher robinson you know they you know they deserve to get what they you know
00:13:15whoever gives them you know the money they give him so i think those are the three things the
00:13:20three types of players they're going to be looking at but i think big is number one i think regardless
00:13:24of mitch is there i think they got to try to find a big but they're they're kind of in
00:13:27that sweet spot
00:13:2824 where i could see that could be the end of like the high level bigs you know or there
00:13:34could be one
00:13:35maybe laying it around but they're in that spot where you know uh it could be the end of the
00:13:40bigs
00:13:40and uh maybe they like said that's where they might pump back and get the second round where i like
00:13:45some
00:13:45of those later bigs just as much as you know those high caliber bigs in the in the first round
00:13:50let me let me follow up on something there too because you mentioned all the different areas
00:13:55they could go right and a ball handler you even said they could use another wing now a guy we
00:13:59saw
00:14:00develop and i don't i don't think we had him on the radar last year when we talked is muhammad
00:14:05diawara
00:14:06right and i'm i'm high i'm on the diawara train right i i like diawara shooting
00:14:13i didn't see the shooting that was my thing yeah i you know he had all the raw tools and
00:14:19he
00:14:20you know had the size the seven foot wingspan six nine but the one thing i said when people
00:14:25asked me about mo and i didn't have too much information on mo i heard i started asking
00:14:30people what they're like the offense might take a little bit and i was like they're like the defense
00:14:35might be something that can be impactful right away but the offense he saw that but the offense we
00:14:40it's like the offense was like oh the offense is actually all right all right it's way better than
00:14:46i thought it was going to be like a two three he's ahead of pacom dottie and pacom dottie was
00:14:50supposed to be someone that at least can can score a little bit he's way ahead of pacom he's playing
00:14:56ahead of pacom yep he probably should have got real playoff minutes too that the coaching staff
00:15:01loves him the coach staff loves him he's going to be a factor next year too he's going to play
00:15:05to me i know this is going to sound crazy but and i listen i know knicks fans are going
00:15:11to want
00:15:11mitch back and you got to get that deal war deal done because yeah that's that's thing yeah because
00:15:17the second round contracts are always funky man it's yeah it goes back to like when gilbert
00:15:23gilbert arenas was like a second round and that's kind of what's like with the second round picks and
00:15:29stuff they didn't want that because after one year he was able to sign a big contract and you know
00:15:34so uh yeah i hope they can bring him back because i think the upside is good and they need
00:15:38that kind
00:15:39of size and his shooting ability off the bench i think he could have a bigger role with this team
00:15:43that could be huge i think the minutes that he got this year chris could be huge for this team
00:15:47going
00:15:47forward next year i think he could really be a rotation player you got to bring him back and and
00:15:52listen if you hit on a guy like him where he's a rotation player and you got him at uh
00:15:5651 last year
00:15:59well i mean they do better in the second round than they do in the first what we we've seen
00:16:04that
00:16:05with the knicks no you're not wrong about that we've seen that with the knicks that's why i wanted
00:16:09to ask you about him because i don't even think he was a guy we brought up in our show
00:16:13last year
00:16:13when we talked about the draft i don't think we brought him up yeah and i thought he was going
00:16:17to be a stash guy yeah i mean like it was going to be yeah but everybody i talked to
00:16:22said they thought
00:16:22he was going to be a stash guy yeah he impressed in summer league and stuff and it was like
00:16:26oh maybe he's
00:16:27he could play and then he showed that he can play and i think i think they got to really
00:16:31think about
00:16:31like yo we got to give him minutes next year because he can have to be a contributor and
00:16:35they need some they need some they need some juice they need some youth in there because you know we
00:16:39are an older team you know brunson's 28 catch 30 you know guys in the back everybody's in the middle
00:16:44of their prime so you gotta you gotta sprinkle in some youthfulness in in that especially you know at
00:16:49least off the bench you know so you can you know you know save minutes because you know they
00:16:53played a lot of minutes this year you know with that long run so you want to keep them fresh
00:16:57so
00:16:57we can have potentially to go through this again you know so you got to trust them you got to
00:17:02be
00:17:02able to trust them and throw them in and i think i think mike brown i think he trusted them
00:17:06but
00:17:07obviously once the playoffs comes you want that the vets that have kind of been there and so i
00:17:11understand that but next year those guys are a year older colic is going to be in year three
00:17:15the war is in year two you know maybe something from the colors you know he's maybe he's finally
00:17:21healthy to give you something so maybe some of these young guys hulk maybe he develops you know
00:17:25whoever the biggest that may be coming in you know those guys are a year older have this playoff
00:17:29experience they went through this run that could be a blessing so maybe you know the next thinking
00:17:36with these picks is like all right we don't need this because we think the young guys we drafted the
00:17:39last few years are going to be ready now they're going to be in year two year three those guys
00:17:45are going
00:17:45to be ready to give us real minutes and we can trust them so now we don't have to
00:17:49overexert all our guys starting five or you know key players off the bench we can be like you know
00:17:55what tyler you know mccullers you guys do deal war we trust you so maybe that's a thing and two
00:18:00with
00:18:00this draft so that's the thing we don't know because leon don't tell us much you know so
00:18:04so yeah he'll tell us much i was glad we heard from leon a little bit uh at the parade
00:18:11ceremony at
00:18:11least we heard that now look guys we kind of hit on this but there's been plenty of discussion about
00:18:15the next front court this summer right whether mitchell robinson returns or not whether that
00:18:20happens or not do you think leon rose should be prioritizing a young big man in this draft you
00:18:25think that that should be the priority here i think so because there's just so many really talented big
00:18:30men it's not just oh you prioritize a big man but if there's no big man to prioritize and that's
00:18:37just
00:18:37a waste you don't i don't believe in overdrafting don't overdraft you know even if you that's a need
00:18:41don't overdraft right board this they're like i said they're in a spot where they can get a
00:18:47really quality big and that's why i've been like well all the mocks and whatever i've asked me who
00:18:52who who do you think the 20 i'm like i give them i always give them a few bigs that
00:18:56i like because i
00:18:57think in that range that's where you can get you know a good quality big that can be impactful too
00:19:02well let's let's do that based on that since you do think that's a priority
00:19:07give me who's your favorite big that you think realistically could be available in that range
00:19:12around i'll even anywhere between 24 and 31 because we don't know what they'll do i'll even
00:19:17take take you down to 31 because maybe they trade the first round pick who do you think could be
00:19:21available who's your favorite big in that range that could be available i mean obviously the one name
00:19:27that he's he's played here locally you know at st john's is who'd be edge for it um and at
00:19:33one point
00:19:33i remember seeing mox right before the the combine stuff him at 31 you know in that i saw that
00:19:39and
00:19:40then he had one of the best or better combines you know the bigs and maybe out of he was
00:19:46probably the
00:19:47one that benefited a lot the most of anyone in the draft period like he shot them off the ball
00:19:52like his
00:19:53shooting splits off the catch you know uh you know one oh it was he he shot it well and
00:19:59then he measured
00:20:00um he's like six foot eight he so he's shorter you know six eight you know with shoes and stuff
00:20:06which which would you you play in shoes so i always go with that than like barefoot
00:20:10you know so he's six six nine in this range but he's big you know has the long arm seven
00:20:16four four
00:20:16wingspan seven three wingspan you know has the motor you want for new york can play defense can pass a
00:20:23little bit can score a little bit you know was a big part of what st john's did this year
00:20:27and the last
00:20:28few years to bring back the brand of st john's to get them back to being irrelevant and you know
00:20:33um
00:20:34one of the powers in the big east so he's someone i love a lot i don't know if he's
00:20:39gonna be there
00:20:40though because the way with so many guys 24 or 31 at 24 i think really you think he'd go
00:20:45higher than
00:20:46that because there's so many guys because of nil and i think nil is a big thing with with uh
00:20:51with a lot
00:20:52of guys going back to school because i mean some of these kids going back to school are going to
00:20:57make
00:20:57more than what they would make if they were the 24th pick they'll make probably make double some
00:21:01of these kids so a lot of names that i thought there's probably like five first rounders that i
00:21:06thought that i had like first round grades on that are back in college you know they went into portal
00:21:12and back to their school um so i think zuby that helps you guys like zuby because now i think
00:21:17they're
00:21:17going to go up a little bit lower so i think he's probably in that like that 15 to 20
00:21:22is range so i don't
00:21:22know if he's going to be there i would love for him to be there but you know but another
00:21:26guy who
00:21:27yeah if you saw in uh in you know i guess my blue devil i'm a duke blue devil guy
00:21:32you know uh yeah
00:21:35it's tarish reed tarish reed yeah yeah yeah he's a monster yeah he's a monster uh he was a big
00:21:42reason
00:21:43why uh yukon wasn't losing by 40 in that first half instead of losing by 20 because if you just
00:21:49saw the
00:21:49way he played he was so physical he was so winning gongba and boozer he was just manhandling them and
00:21:57st john's fans know him well too seeing him in the big east they know him well yeah yeah see
00:22:00him in
00:22:01the big east like he was man and he just kept chipping away they just fed him they fed the
00:22:04big
00:22:04man the boat they did old school basketball they're like hey we got to figure a way to get back
00:22:08in this
00:22:08game and they just said hey man we got he's the biggest guy on the court and he kept chipping
00:22:11away
00:22:12and just like being strong with the hook shots just finishing and just was a big reason why
00:22:17they they eventually came back and won that game so he's someone i like a lot he is a he
00:22:22is he's
00:22:23built like a greek god that he is just he's huge he's huge he's he's near seven foot 265 the
00:22:29long
00:22:30wingspan can rebound set screens loose he does the little things that we need you know that that you
00:22:36know that would if mitch is gone back he can you know slide in and potentially be that type of
00:22:41big that
00:22:42we can use you know so he's someone i like a lot too because he's a he's a monster of
00:22:46a human
00:22:47big so those are two bigs in that range i like this chris sanak too from euston now he's more
00:22:52of a
00:22:54he's he's a little more raw right he's raw yeah i feel like khalil ware from a few years back
00:22:59where
00:22:59he needs to be in the right system to thrive now khalil ware went to miami and that was probably
00:23:04the
00:23:04best spot for him and he's having a pretty good career and he might be in the honest trade for
00:23:09all
00:23:09you know you know so that's a big piece i'd be heading to milwaukee but right someone that's
00:23:13intriguing like he was we talk about um kingston flemings who's the higher rated houston guy but
00:23:20sanak was the top five star recruit on that team and he had up and down season you know there's
00:23:26some
00:23:26things with maybe him you know not playing hard all the way you know so and maybe he'd been would
00:23:31have been benefited going back for another year but he's someone that could be intriguing because if he
00:23:35hits he has maybe the biggest upside of all the bigs because if he hits but it's it's it's the
00:23:41same
00:23:41way the other way if he doesn't hit he could be out of the league in three years so it's
00:23:45an ultimate
00:23:46boomer bust with him there's no in between it's either he's going to be a really good big or he's
00:23:51out
00:23:51of the league you know playing nbl in a few years you know so there's no really in between but
00:23:55he's
00:23:55someone that you know maybe they want to take a big that you know and just hey just watch towns
00:24:01play for a few years and just learn you know maybe they do that but he's more of a project
00:24:05than
00:24:05the other two the other two could probably play right away where sanak is someone you put in the
00:24:11g league and just let him you know let him marinate and hopefully in two couple years you think you
00:24:15have your if towns is you know is aged out maybe he's the you know but yeah he's he's boomer
00:24:20bust
00:24:21though i like i like zuby um i like reed zuby obviously seen a lot closely i do a st
00:24:27john's show
00:24:28here i i'm gonna tell you something so i talked with our st john's beat writer zach braziller
00:24:34and i talked to him about zuby this was towards the end of the season i said well what are
00:24:39you
00:24:39hearing from him about what scouts think or what they think he could be and basically he heard from
00:24:45a scout someone said they thought he could be a poor man's al horford if he if he gets his
00:24:50shot going
00:24:51right from the outside not the great shooter but he and i said i like that comp like good comp
00:24:57i would
00:24:58sign for that comp if he now again that all depends on the shot developing but i
00:25:03i would i would take that for the knicks as a big who can rebound the thing i like about
00:25:07zuby and
00:25:07why i think you said a good point is i think he can come and defend right away in the
00:25:12nba i think
00:25:12that's the key for me he can come in and defend um and if he's able to do that he's
00:25:18a he's a player
00:25:19you could plug and play right right here right to start next season and he plays hard and he plays

00:26:03this year but he had a game winning shot this year um so there's moments where he's in the clutch

00:26:07he's not afraid to shoot it or score so you know he just has that attitude you know uh that

00:26:39there um there's some guards i like like jaden bradley he's not someone that's going to be in the
00:26:44first round he's arizona you know big 12 player of the year he's someone that fits that mold too
00:26:51um i i really like his game all around player he doesn't do anything flashy but just solid as you
00:26:58know solid as a rock you know he's just and then that's someone that you know like i said if

00:27:03want to grab another guard like he fits in perfectly too um uh another there's another big i like that

00:27:10think fits into into that that nastiness attitude you know that mitchell robertson type that would
00:27:16fit the culture well and as i'm going on yensu from virginia he's just nasty he's just he's just
00:27:23gonna block i watch a lot of acc basketball so yeah and if you watch the acc championship versus duke
00:27:29he gave boozer he gave him everything he blocked like seven or eight of boozer shots and this is boozer
00:27:36who might be the potential you know he's a top three pick and he made boozer look small and boozer
00:27:42six nine 260 you know he built like his pops you know and he made him small so that's another
00:27:49guy that
00:27:49i just feel like fits you know the that leon that that big that tough and just gonna do the

00:27:55the nasty work and just rugged like that's another guy i really like a lot that fits that mold oh

00:28:01that mike brown type of uh koa pete is another one that i feel fits the culture as far as

00:28:10tough rugged physical that's the one thing i think the knicks are that that's our identity now now that
00:28:18we have a that we have a proven model with winning a championship right we it's physicality right that's
00:28:25why we won the championship because we were more physical than every team we played in the playoffs
00:28:30you know so cool pete fits that to a tee and he's a guy that started off he was supposed
00:28:37to be in that
00:28:38that four horsemen right with boozer and all these guys he was he was in there because beginning of
00:28:44season people like oh he might be the fifth guy in that you know you know he might be that

00:28:49he was off to a good start and then you know he kind of tailed off and then like some

00:28:53stuff got a little nasty with pre-draft and then you know during the process so then and so that's

00:28:58he's another guy that i could see falling and being fit the culture perfectly because if the
00:29:04shot's not there he's still gonna it's it kind of reminds me of like jewish randos that was just
00:29:09physical just gonna bully you down low and you're just gonna work and he's gonna be able to be a
00:29:14switchable defender on defense too you know so you're not gonna lose much on there so he just
00:29:19i think he's a he's a guy and he bought into the system that i love guys who buy in

00:29:25highly recruited who are the guys in high school the guys on the nybl circuit all these circuits
00:29:31and now you take the ball off their hand how do they react not everyone reacts well even in that
00:29:38the guys don't react well and especially kids that age where you know the age of social media
00:29:42oh no then i'm gonna go somewhere else i'm a transfer i'm not going and he bought in i love
00:29:48that i love guys like that so he bought he bought in and he he's just gonna work so that's

00:29:53too i think that would fit well uh perfectly in there because he's just rugged he's gonna be
00:29:57physical and i don't know if the shot will ever be there but you know he can learn from a

00:30:02group of guys too in that so you know you can't get better shooting you know yeah that's not that
00:30:08you you definitely got to think about guys that can come in and fit because sometimes like you said
00:30:14a guy comes into a place and they're used to being the man they can't adjust but hey now we're
00:30:19talking about a championship mix culture it's like you better come in and fit in right nobody
00:30:24has any time to see anybody trying to mess up right now but when you're but when you're the
00:30:29knicks chris and you're picking this late in the first round should you always try to take the best
00:30:35player available or when you're in this situation as a championship team like the knicks do you have
00:30:42the luxury of strictly drafting for fit how do you play it when you're in the mold the area of
00:30:47where
00:30:47the knicks are as a championship team is the best player available or can you say okay we can fill
00:30:52some needs here and get the best fit that works with us i mean obviously you know you would like
00:30:57to draft on your needs if you need a point guard like but i don't believe in overdrafting like it
00:31:02if your board is it's like a 10 draft 10 spot drop i don't believe in taking that guy you

00:31:08really has a second round grade who really should be in the 40s and you take them in you know
00:31:12with the 24th
00:31:13i don't believe in that strategy i believe you take the best especially nowadays i feel like
00:31:18you should no matter where you draft take the best player it's not like back in the day just think
00:31:23about the portland trail but this is what they did back in the 80s they had clive drexler you know

00:31:28we can't take michael jordan because it was fit that would never happen in today's era right you
00:31:33would take no we're gonna take jordan and you're gonna make we're gonna make it work and figure it

00:31:46drafted and then harper they get the number two pick they they could have easily said no we don't

00:32:21he's special he's going to be a multiple time all-star only be a level player in castle too i
00:32:26think it'd be really good so i just think you take if you're 24 you take the best player available
00:32:30and if it's a guard like if we might talk about that if it's a guard then take the guard

00:32:59you take you trust your board because and you take the best player available you know and if

00:35:07um tarish but christian anderson and i know he's a guard and i know he's not going to be a

00:38:02want to go into philly they don't need they don't need another good guard in the back they don't need
00:38:06another good guard you know you know so like i might pull the trigger on christian i think he's
00:38:11really good i think i know there's there's some worry about his strength and he's a smaller guard
00:38:16but we we i we've been hearing about smaller guards can't do this they can't do that and a smaller

00:38:21just led a team to an nba championship versus the biggest guy in the league so i think that kind

00:38:32who better to learn from than jayden brunson christian you can get christian anderson on

00:38:49rate at the rim i just think like i said someone said who you think could be that maxi level

00:40:44then you can get stronger you know jalen brunson is strong as heck you know so like you can get
00:40:50stronger and like i said if you be in the perfect program you can learn from him you know um

00:40:56know so i said christian anderson would be he'd be tempting if he's there at 24 and if there's
00:41:02it may be some bit if both bigs are there like they would have they would have that would be

00:44:43okay so he's more he's coming off a major injury so the fact you know we probably won't even see
00:44:48him and he's an older prospect and that's richie saunders from byu from byu
00:44:52hurt byu fell down the bounce had to do way too much and they kind of messed up their flow

00:44:58look like probably they were probably on the two line two three line and then they wound up you know
00:45:03getting bounced through because they just had no more shooting when rich songs got hurt that's a guy
00:45:07i would be intrigued at 31. he's probably more like if it wasn't for the injury and i know the

00:45:12is a concern because i think he's he's already 25 years old um but at 31 who cares um but
00:45:19he can shoot
00:45:20man he he can he's an off-ball shooter he's a movement shooter he can get through screens he's
00:45:25one of those like that not he's not clay thompson but in that realm that type of player you know

00:45:30so that's one at 31 and just be like hey just we'll rehab we'll get you right and then more

00:45:37like in two years you can get him and he he can make an impact in two years when he's
00:45:43healthy and you
00:45:43can get yourself a guy who supposedly who should be a top 20 25 pick you get him at 31

00:45:49value and he's not a contract that's someone that i would think about at 31. another guy i mentioned

00:46:44for you well you you have currently towns who's your who's our offensive who could be an offensive
00:46:49engine and can score 25 a game you know does not gonna give you the stuff defensively if you lose

00:48:28high iq players you know that's one championship is has high high aq players you know like josh hart
00:48:34isn't a a the perfect basketball player but he just has a crazy high iq right able to crash the
00:48:41boards at the right he's six foot four and he's crashing the boards with guys seven foot seven foot
00:48:48five and giving them heck like you need high iq players brunson's a high iq player og's a high
00:48:55player town's high iq you need high excuse me high iq players and i think that's what they're going to
00:49:01be looking at strong high iq players and those two guys you know i know christian is not physically but
00:49:07he's a high aq player against who high player block shots you know doesn't foul too much now those are
00:49:13guys i think they're going to be looking at you know you need those high high iq players and i

00:49:18that's what's going to that's what mike brown wants he wants you to be able to make the right

00:51:36more guys he also listened and that collaborative i know we heard that word a ton that collaborative
00:51:40approach matters it matters when you're talking about developing young talent right chris exactly
00:51:44a hundred percent a hundred percent so and you know good thing about mike brown is he listens to
00:51:50everyone not he listens to his players listens to he trusted assistant coaches and that's something
00:51:54that you know as much as we love i love thibodeau that was kind of you know the downside of

00:52:00wasn't listening as much so that's why they had to bring in a fresh new space and i think if
00:52:04you're a
00:52:05player i think we're right i think in the in the last few drafts we thought about tibbs type of
00:52:09players right we thought right right this type of guys because we knew not every type of player was
00:52:15going to fit with tibbs system but now with with how mike brown has opened up the offense and playing
00:52:22more guys now we don't i don't have when i'm doing my draft stuff i'm not just focusing all right
00:52:27this this type of guy that's because i have a list of guys who are straight tibbs guys and these
00:52:31guys that can't shoot essentially too like you know i i had a bunch of guys like if tibbs was

00:52:37coach though this guy would probably be a nick this part you know but now you can open up and
00:52:42like oh
00:52:42everyone's pretty much an option like there's no like i don't know he's not going to fit everyone
00:52:47essentially could fit you know so as long as they have the high iq they could fit so that's the

00:52:52part about the mike brown offense now is that there's no limit on what type of player you can bring

00:52:57like no we get this guy this guy fit so like that's the beauty of mike brown and what he'd

00:53:40they did not know so i guess the question i'm asking you out of this entire draft who's your favorite
00:53:46sleeper in this draft class like who's the guy that that you think people are sleeping on that's not
00:53:53christian anderson who we've talked about who would have been one of those guys one of those
00:53:57guys is there another guy you think people are really sleeping on maybe it's higher than where
00:54:01the knicks are picking or scheduled to pick who do you think that guy is um i'll give you one
00:54:06that
00:54:06i like for even for the knicks even in like the late second round uh okay isaiah nelson from south
00:54:12florida he was defensive player of the year in the conference he um he transferred over uh i think
00:54:19from south south arkansas so i forgot what school is that but he um he dominated you know and he's
00:54:25he's a he's an intriguing big seven foot seven foot plus wingspan you know uh does a lot of the
00:54:32dirty
00:54:32work too you know so he's a guy that i i wrote about him um when i covered south florida
00:54:37for the center
00:54:38hub i wrote about him um and i just i got to talk to some people in the program about
00:54:43him and they're just
00:54:44like man he works he is a worker so that's a good thing right because he fits the workers and
00:54:50he'll
00:54:51fit in perfect if that's the case but he's the one where i think i think during the year you
00:54:57probably
00:54:57didn't hear much about him he didn't they don't play in a great conference in the american but and
00:55:02he was probably lower but as the conference tournament went and uh they won the conference
00:55:06tournament and they played louisville in the first round you saw a little glimpse of him
00:55:09um in that first round game versus louisville but you saw like oh this kid i remember people
00:55:14hitting him up like yo that's your boy i was like yeah he's rising up and now there's a chance
00:55:18he's
00:55:19been i think he's definitely gonna get drafted just a matter he's probably in the second round but
00:55:23you know he's he's a name that i think we might be hearing in a few names it's he i
00:55:27think he's really
00:55:27good okay that's it that's the option for the next look if they keep pick 55 which is another pick
00:55:33they have that we we haven't talked about okay we got that isaiah nelson one more i got another one
00:55:38all right give me one more and i just i've been talking about this the last few shows and everyone's
00:55:43trying to look for that second round like that dream on great right who's trying trying to find
00:55:47that dream that that joker that jalen brunson brunson there's a guard from ohio state that i
00:55:55really like a lot uh and bruce thornton now i know he had a bad ending to his college career
00:56:00and it
00:56:01you know missed a lot but as far as like someone that could potentially be you know four or five
00:56:08years down the line potentially be a high level starter you know that's a second round pick and
00:56:13the guard level it's six foot stocky like brunson can score at all levels through storing someone that
00:56:20i wouldn't be surprised dex if and i said you call me crazy that he's that jalen brunson type where
00:56:26in
00:56:26four or five years he's signing a big contract for a team and being a starter like i think really
00:56:32highly i know that he didn't end the college well and people have told me that but you know i

00:56:38highly of them i think he could be that type potentially down the line like i i really like
00:56:42his game a lot oh look man a lot of people gonna be looking for the next world champion point

00:56:49brunson you know what i mean a lot of people are gonna be looking for it's not easy everyone
00:56:52thinks they can they think because brunson did it that oh yeah now you know and i felt for for

00:56:57second but i'm like you still got to build the right team yes that player to make everything work
00:57:04and but it's he has shown that hey a guy who's six foot can be able to be the lead

00:57:11championship level team you just got to make sure you have the right piece and we had the right pieces
00:57:14around you know yeah i i agree and i think people also think a lot of times drafting and team

00:57:21is an exact science but it's it's not that it's it's not easy um at all so listen i've got

00:58:04morning what do you think the knicks will have done what are do you we don't think they're making all
00:58:11three picks so i'm gonna throw that out the window do you think they're packaging some in the trade do
00:58:15you see something completely different happening do you see them walking away with two guys that you
00:58:20would want here one of them being kristen anderson maybe a maybe another big uh what do you see
00:58:26happening when knicks fans wake up on thursday morning and see what the champion new york knicks
00:58:31have done in the 2026 nba draft well what i think we do you know i think they come away
00:58:37with a big for
00:58:38sure i think i i i would i would i would be not disappointed but i would be like i'm
00:58:45surprised
00:58:46they didn't go get a big you know um i would be shocked if they don't come away with at
00:58:50least a big
00:58:50you know even if it's just one guy and that's a bit if it's just a big i i think

00:58:55with a big so that's my thinking is if it's another i think two picks essentially maybe oh maybe they
00:59:01package like you know um they they package to get a future first maybe that could like i said i
00:59:07mentioned that that could be something but i think they i i i think they come away with a big

00:59:58something i would like yeah that's something i would be and the draft is so like the championship

01:00:08just won the championship look who we built oh wait the draft's next week yeah and we know there's
01:00:16guys that are on this but it's still a lot you just a lot right yeah guys they obviously have
01:00:21scouts that we've been doing this all year round looking for guys but still like leon's like oh
01:00:26oh we got the draft man we got and then free agency we gotta see who can come back all
01:00:30in like in a
01:00:30few weeks span but it's it's cool when you're the problem champions you know it's easier to do that
01:00:37than if you're you know the spurs right now who are trying to like oh man but we still coming

01:00:41these losses and you know so it's a good feeling to have when you're the champions and you can have
01:00:47that you know so i'll take that you know they never got to feel that so it's a good feeling
