00:10is 100% my child yeah yeah yeah and you know I'll try to say this without it

00:35oh my gosh Jackson hi Sarah hi darling good to see you it's so funny because we have been
00:43like orbiting around each other for like three years but have not quite landed a experience
00:50where we can like actually sit have coffee we're gonna show together it's always like a
00:54I run on your set hey oh my god I love you and then I leave and vice versa
00:58that yeah I don't I think we're both you know killing it on our own sides and
01:03yeah busy busy busy it's like cool I see you see you later it's very much like
01:07that I don't know about you but in this space where you're like I have so many
01:10amazing friends but I never see you I don't talk to you but I got you you know
01:16yeah I mean I definitely feel like I feel like that about most of us like you
01:20know I mean I feel like we're all very well connected like I have so much respect
01:23for so many people in this space that I never see right like where we see each
01:28other occasionally hi how you doing 15 minutes see you later right um yeah and
01:33I feel like somebody's always working so it's hard to even get sit-down time with
01:37people oh for sure or if there's like a vertical party or an event or something
01:41it's impossible yeah to really schedule that no so tell me about your journey in
01:48vertical so when did you start what was the first project like and how has that
01:54changed over the last two three years um I hated it I hated my first vertical experience
02:03the story didn't make any sense to me the people were lovely like do you want to
02:07mean like yeah I worked with were lovely the the atmosphere was fast-paced and
02:13moving which was fine with me but the story didn't make any sense and I just
02:17like could wrap my head around certain things and like do you know what I mean
02:20like trying to make sense of this script and I'm like what the hell this doesn't
02:26even like the words don't even make sense to me I don't know what we're what we're
02:30saying here like yeah so I was like I got off the set and I was like that I'll
02:36never do that again right I feel like a lot of us have said that you know and it's
02:43like well the next one is you're getting booked and here we are and I mean it
02:47it probably as you know it's steamrolled from there like yeah it was crazy and
02:52like yeah um the experience has been uh amazing and life-changing in many
02:59different ways and uh I I can't imagine doing anything else right now at this
03:06point you know my only hope is that you know as much growth as most as much
03:12growth as we have seen the vertical community have over the last couple of
03:18years there's still so much growth I think that needs to happen so much change
03:22that needs to happen um and I think you know we're slowly working in that
03:27direction I just hope that we continue to work in that direction and don't start
03:31finding other avenues you know I think our community is so wonderful like our
03:36our our fan base is so amazing and it's like I I think we all talk about it time
03:42and time again without our fan base we don't exist oh yeah um I think the other
03:47actors and the other directors and people and like like people like yourself just
03:52are our co-counterparts just a group of lovely people and I think we're very
03:58fortunate that we're all on the same side and yeah and rooting for each other and
04:01you know I was talking to my wife about this the other day I was like I feel like
04:04sometimes the vertical world and especially the guys uh I feel like they
04:08pin us up against one another like oh who's the best like who yeah who's the
04:13hottest male lead who's the better who's abs um and it's just I when you I when we
04:18all actually get in a room like it's not like that at all oh my god it's just some
04:22of the sweetest individuals you've ever met and just so it's it's really cool
04:26experience to be here yeah and then tell me a little bit just about so you have
04:31you're one of the major faces of our male actor community here and then you're
04:36also a major face at home being a father husband what's that like um you know first
04:42of all shout out to my wife uh Brittany she is amazing and I I don't think I would
04:49be able to do anything that I do without her that's not me like tooting her horn
04:52that's general honesty like yeah um she makes sure the house is taken care of like
04:57you know and I mean some of the days are long like we have oh yeah we have a kid
05:02in
05:02school we have a one and a half year old so I mean her days are long and uh I
05:06think
05:06you know that only drives me to want to do more which is like you like we were at the
05:13grocery store this morning we were having conversation because it's like I've had
05:17like 10 days off but I'm getting ready to go back into yeah you would 10 off um we were
05:25even walking to the grocery store and she's just like you know like uh she's like I this
05:28is the part I hate the most she's like I know you go back in like it does like I
05:32miss you
05:33and you know it's it's one of those things like I'm fortunate enough to be able to like
05:36pick and choose my schedule which is nice um but at the same time like I want then to have
05:43the best life possible so I have to take more work yeah for sure yeah um but I mean
05:49it is I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard yeah um you know there's days where depending
05:57on what my shooting schedule is where I don't see anybody yeah right um like if my schedule
06:03is uh like a 6 a.m call time I wake up at 3 30 4 o'clock I work
06:09out I try my best to do
06:11something in the house that's somewhat beneficial to my wife when she wakes up whether that's
06:16make the kids lunches and just have it set up kind of thing but it's like I don't see them
06:21when
06:21they wake up I might get to FaceTime during lunch and then I go home depending on where we're
06:27filming at I may not make it home by the time everybody is in bed for sure um so like
06:32those
06:33those days are hard like some some schedules are the more like if I have a 9 a.m call
06:38time I get a
06:39little bit of morning time do you know what I mean which is nice um but it does like they're
06:43long
06:43days and it it sucks trying to put Face both there and at set and then you know make it
06:51seem like
06:52I'm 100% coherent in all places right um I think you know I think I've done a good job
06:58of over the
06:59years just learning to kind of like emotionally stabilize myself like in places and just uh you know
07:06try to be as president as I can wherever I am yeah um so but yeah I mean none of
07:12that is possible
07:12without my wife who is wonderful I mean we have two beautiful boys and uh we have a little girl
07:18on
07:18the way you know she's due in September October so I'm also taking extra work now so yeah you have
07:24to come September October comes I can take time off because the last thing I want to do is be
07:29on set
07:30when you know she goes into labor because that I have to leave set also that's messing up
07:34everybody else's life on set like do you know what I mean so uh just going to avoid that situation
07:40altogether yeah so uh oh my gosh congratulations yeah oh my gosh you so don't say any of the abuse
07:48scripts no abuse scripts for me nothing none of the weird stuff not gonna happen no not that it
07:53happens now anyway right right say no to those oh my gosh I feel like you're gonna be an amazing
08:00girl dad I hope so are you excited I mean I am I'm nervous right I mean like I know
08:05boys boys are
08:06fine yeah boys are easier toss them around yeah I mean um but the little princess oh god oh um
08:13and
08:13we're still racking her name around names and things like that so but we've got it down to like
08:19a few we just haven't kind of locked anything yeah she's my wife said uh that we probably wouldn't
08:26know and she's like I probably won't know until I hold her right and then she's like we'll decide
08:29then I was like okay so cute yeah so fun stuff wow when I'm on a shoot I sometimes as
08:38the villain
08:38I'm not in every scene like you are and then oh my house is a mess because I'm I can't
08:44clean up after
08:45myself if I have the 6 a.m call time so that is so clutch and helpful to have somebody
08:50who can handle
08:51those things at home because then you can come home and have a meal made for you you got to
08:55go over
08:55your sides for the next day because it doesn't end at when you're done with work you got to drive
08:59home and go over your lines too I don't okay I have I have learned that is it is unfair
09:05to myself
09:07it's unfair to my family that yeah if you keep me on set for 12 hours a day that I
09:11go home and then
09:12look at my my lines while yeah now if everyone's asleep or if I wake up early enough and I
09:17get my
09:18workout and like I have time to like just breeze through kind of what the day is gonna be I'll
09:23do
09:23that but I I stopped that probably year and a half ago yeah once I leave set set is done
09:29set's done
09:29that's so because they take so much of our time I know anyway yeah I know yeah that's really cool
09:36that you're able to kind of be like okay I'm making the boundary and the decision because I'm a human
09:42also and I have a life and a family to provide for and be the dad that I am that
09:46you can just be like
09:47oh okay cut it off now I'm myself again yeah does it take you some time after doing or are
09:55you so
09:55kind of like used to it now because you do so many of these but sometimes I know for myself
09:59if I'm in
10:01a scene or you know if like the day's going kind of bad or something's going crazy you're kind of
10:05like
10:05you have this like heavy weight on you how do you change that because I don't have anyone to like
10:11go
10:11home to right how do you take that away and just lock into dad mode um you know it and
10:18I would
10:18assume I don't know if you want kids or at any point in your life I think um they make
10:27it happen
10:27like I think walking in and you know just seeing this little face just line up that doesn't care
10:33about what you did that day it doesn't care about how your day went it doesn't care how bad your
10:37day
10:37was and just just pure love you know what I mean I think yeah anything that's bothering me in those
10:44moments like it just disappears it's gone yeah um so yeah yeah and you have something to look forward
10:51to and you're excited yeah and I mean like you know like yeah we're fortunate enough now in this
10:55time that we live in like I can at least facetime like we can get a little bit of yeah
10:59facetime and
11:00like see and say hi and those kinds of things I know some days are tough on my wife you
11:05know
11:05and there's there are certain days where I'm like I can tell when I get on the phone like okay
11:10I love you so much like I can tell I'm not making things better right now so you know um
11:16so that you
11:17know there's so much so much crazy balance that does come into my life but it is one of those
11:23things
11:23like I don't like I don't look at my life as being any harder or any more difficult than anyone
11:28else
11:28everybody's got their yeah yeah and my is not things that I chose yeah I mean so how dare I
11:35be upset or you know angry about you know choosing to have my family choosing to do work that I
11:42could
11:42have only dreamed to have been doing years ago do you ever draw from your emotional well with your
11:51family because that's something that not every actor has like I don't know what it's like to have
11:55the love for my child and wife or husband do you use that for some of your character development
12:03yeah I mean I think um I think it definitely comes into play and you know it's it's it's hard
12:10because I'm just thinking about vertical uh characters and how they can but you know that you
12:16do get you do you know every once in a while get these stories that are genuine and very sweet
12:20and like
12:21you can have these moments of uh of thought but yeah I mean there are things that I pick and
12:27choose
12:27from um and then I'm dying or is it dude or is it like you're just like actually no I
12:36keep it very
12:37separate they are not like combined at all yeah I mean I would I would definitely say that uh
12:44there's not a lot of them that I'm like like yeah I could pull this in and like this work
12:50yeah um and my wife my wife's really funny everyone's always like my wife everyone's asked
12:54like you know like how does your wife deal with you know your your line of work because you know
12:58some of these scripts have intimacy in them and things like that and I'm like you know I'm very
13:03fortunate enough to where my wife we have learned to kind of joke about it and also just don't talk
13:10about it like we yeah it's not that we don't acknowledge what it is but it's like um especially
13:14early on when I would come home uh her questions to me would be like did you kiss bitches today
13:22and if I did and if I did I go brush my teeth you know it's a respect thing for
13:26sure um if she's
13:27made dinner I'm like I'm gonna hug you but I'm gonna eat dinner because I'm gonna brush my teeth
13:30before I eat my dinner and then I'll brush my teeth yeah so I love you yeah I love you
13:34but yeah um
13:36yeah yeah so it is uh it is a different it's definitely a different dynamic my wife is very
13:42supportive of um what I do and I also for the most part I've tried to include her in the
13:47world
13:48do you know what I mean like she's met a lot of my co-stars and like she knows who
13:51they are like if I
13:52go out to places I try to make sure that she can try to go with me it doesn't always
13:56work but
13:56um I want her to feel like it's not like this separate life that's being lived yeah they're two
14:03separate things um but as far as like taking things from my own personal life now that you
14:09say it and we sit here and I think about it yeah yeah much honestly you're like yeah nah yeah
14:16and the
14:17like the kids not at all yeah um I mean I think there's genuine understanding of once you have kids
14:24of just like being able to kind of like communicate with kids on set which has been helpful how's
14:29yeah I mean I've worked with kids on set before and it's really fun I actually feel like when there
14:37is a child actor involved it just kind of makes the set even if it's slower it just brings a
14:42light to
14:43where everyone's like okay even if I'm miserable like I do have to smile yeah yeah and it's kind of
14:49great yeah I mean I most of the kids that I've worked with have just been genuinely awesome little
14:56human beings yeah some of them just extremely intelligent and just um but they do bring a
15:02different ambiance to the the world and the uh the set and I think it's I think it's really good
15:08for everybody that's there you know there are moments where you know I'm answering questions
15:13that I'm like I'm I'm like I need to learn this monologue like you said it earlier like you know
15:19like for sure I that's fantastic yeah I would love to look at that video but let me learn these
15:25lines
15:25so that we can go home at the end of the day yep yep where's mom has anybody seen mom
15:30yeah give
15:30you two seconds she's at crafty having a snack grab me one too mom thanks uh-huh for sure I
15:37think I
15:37definitely probably keep them more separate now that I think about it yeah that makes sense yeah
15:42that definitely makes sense for sure when you so how old are your kids um I have seven year old
15:48oh okay and I have a one and a half year old oh my gosh I'm about to be two
15:53he'll be about he's
15:53about to be two actually okay did you obviously something will change in you when you become a
15:59parent it's a very different thing but is there anything that you could put into words for some
16:04of our viewers me you know um like what is it that surprises you about being a dad that you
16:11weren't
16:11expecting um that's a good question um I so I will say this I I never wanted kids okay I
16:20never
16:20wanted kids I didn't think that I wanted to get married um and then I have so I met my
16:29wife and
16:30you know in LA in LA okay uh we met on a dating app yeah I mean success story here
16:36we go yeah thank
16:37thank you um good god um and uh you know I uh once we met and um her our oldest
16:47son isn't
16:48biologically mine but okay he is 100% my child yeah yeah yeah and uh when I saw her with
16:56him
16:57so our oldest son is on the spectrum okay um autism awareness month yeah yeah we're all here for that
17:03um a I have a younger brother who is also a a brain trauma patient he was in a motorcycle
17:08accident
17:09when we were younger and the similarities between him and my oldest son Avon are very interesting and
17:17correlate yeah and there was one day and you know um I'll try to say this without without crying there
17:25was one day that I watched my wife this is before we were actually together or anything like that she
17:29was with her son and he was having a moment of you know emotional stress and things like that and
17:35I
17:36think watching her uh go through those motions with him and like just be just be present was uh
17:45was definitely like one of those things where I was like um if I'm ever gonna have a kid I
17:52want
17:52you to be the mom like do you know what I mean like even if we don't work out as
17:55people
17:58okay like even if we don't work out as people um like I genuinely know like he'll be taken care
18:04of
18:06and it's like uh sorry I messed up I messed up the podcast oh no no no no um but
18:12it is one of those
18:13things where it's like I mean I know where I was sitting at when that moment happened yeah and it
18:19it was a life-changing moment for me and I don't even think that she quite understands
18:25yeah what that moment did like we've talked about it but it definitely changed me and it's like
18:31yeah and then ever since then it's like me and him have a wonderful relationship that he he is
18:36he's non-verbal but I mean he is as communicative as any other child and it's like our relationship is
18:43is amazing and wonderful and it's like I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world and I think
18:47between him and his little brother who is just two years of pure chaos running around the house
18:54you know yeah um how does he handle it who uh the oldest yeah so we weren't sure yeah that's
19:02a lot
19:03we weren't sure how he was going to react and you know when we first had Maddox who's our youngest
19:07at the moment um that he didn't really want anything to do with him like do you want to mean
19:13him which was he's just this ball of flesh that just lays there and stinks and makes noise you know
19:18and takes mommy and daddy's attention 100 so he would come up and you know like he'd look at him
19:24kind of poke at him and he'd go about his business he wouldn't hold him like we try to hold
19:29him he
19:31just get him get him away from me uh-huh um and now they're best friends like you like oh
19:38my
19:38if they're if they're in the house together they are like oh and I love it so much and we
19:44think
19:44it's you know it's done wonders for him as far as being more personable and like you know interacting
19:50with other children and just people in general um so you know while we were very kind of unsure at
19:57the very beginning we're like oh I don't we don't know yeah total 180 360 whatever the hell you want
20:03to call it and he is uh like their best buds and I love yeah yeah oh until until Avan's
20:09done
20:09Avan does have a meter and he's like he will he will separate himself and then he leaves he's like
20:13I'm good I'm going to the other room now thank you and Maddox hasn't realized that there's a meter yet
20:18so like he'll still he'll come up and like all right Maddox give him give him some time
20:21give him some time oh my gosh um but you know it's all right it's those moments that you know
20:27take
20:27over the you know the the screaming and you know the the crying but not wanting to go to sleep
20:32moments like do you know what I mean like those moments happen and you know they're tough and
20:36they're hard and they suck but they're those moments are trampled by the other things that
20:42just light your little heart up you know so no I imagine a little girl she's gonna melt me
20:48oh beyond yeah oh my gosh I have this big uh you're gonna be crying every day I've got this
20:53big tough
20:53guy persona that doesn't really exist inside me yeah yeah um oh my gosh I'm already like tearing for you
20:59you you are gonna be a ball just crying everywhere I I'm probably more emotional than my wife is for
21:06sure not probably for what's your sign I'm Aquarius okay cool what's your wife's sign she is a Leo oh
21:13okay no I'm wrong she's a Taurus oh so her birthday's like the 24th yeah oh cool are you guys
21:21doing
21:21anything fun um no I will be filming I yeah um yeah um but all for the better cause yeah
21:29um but
21:30you know like in my days off here like I've tried to take her out a couple breakfasts and just
21:34trying
21:34to be involved and um and she gets it and she understands and you know like I I hope that
21:40I'm
21:40able to get off at least set early yeah get home and spend some time and those kinds of things
21:46so
21:46yeah yeah yeah happy birthday birthday happy birthday we love you we love you I think this
21:52will come out after your birthday yeah it will but still happy birthday every day you deserve it
21:56oh my gosh what would you say is the kind of dad that you want to be remembered as for
22:05your kids
22:06how do you want them to remember you how to view you when they think about you when you're thinking
22:11about dad right like what is it that you want to give them man I I hope that it's just
22:17that he loved
22:18us like I think I think I think that would be my biggest reward is that you know there was
22:27genuine
22:28love from this guy you know you and I can't be in a room together so I cry um you
22:36know I think I
22:37definitely think that that's I think that's more important to me than anything yeah no literally
22:44done yeah I mean like you know like I it's hard to be like I want to be like I
22:49he was present all
22:51the time because I'm not but I try to be is right like what dad is even if I don't
22:56know about you but
22:57like back in the day like my dad worked every single day you know you we became we're very independent
23:02and I don't know like who can really be a fully present parent even if you are then your kid
23:09is
23:10like I should it's like you can never be perfect because if you're there too much then it's like you
23:15should have given the kid more alone time so it could be more independent it's just like you're never
23:19gonna win you can just do the best that you can yeah I agree so I mean and that's you
23:24know I as long
23:25as they can see that I tried yeah yeah so you know do you feel um I I don't know
23:32if I want kids
23:33I don't know like I think for me it's a similar thing of what you just said where you know
23:38you saw
23:38your wife like existing and then you had that aha moment where you're like that's that's the mother
23:42of my children right there I have not yet found a partner that I feel I could do that with
23:50and then
23:50it's like all on you and I'm like in this economy girl would you say that now that you're a
23:57dad
23:58you know how I don't know I feel like this is kind of a joke that our parents would say
24:03which is
24:03like you know now that you're a you're a dad you realize what a nutcracker you were when you were
24:08younger like do you have those moments where you're like damn this is being a parent kind of
24:15um I I don't want to say no but I think that um and I mean it's kind of like
24:23you said like I think
24:24our childhoods were so different than you know childhoods now I think what there's less connection
24:31not that like like me and my mom have a wonderful relationship like I'm so happy that I had the
24:35mother that I had yeah but I mean she was busy and she worked it was because of technology didn't
24:40really exist like it's hard for us to be as connected as I am with my kids like you want
24:45me at least like I get to show face I'm like hey here I am you see me hi I
24:49love you kind of thing
24:50um so you know it is I think there's some similarities but I don't think like
24:57at any point I'm like oh the sacrifices I think is what probably uh is the biggest connection for me
25:05is like now understanding why do you know what I mean like why I spent so much time
25:11by myself while mom was working yeah like that like do you know what I mean like so I think
25:15that
25:15me understanding like you kind of have to do what you have to do kind of thing which uh the
25:20economy
25:20doesn't allow any of us to not do that do you know what I mean I was absolutely I would
25:24I was
25:25telling my wife this morning I was like I would love to not have to do three projects in a
25:29row do you
25:29what I mean like I would love to do one and then take a huge break but I was like
25:33financially I can't
25:35do that like I can't I at no point would I ever be able to just not do anything and
25:40not have money
25:40coming in absolutely so scared of anything they could and would happen yeah absolutely so yeah
25:48I feel like correct me but it's a little bit of the oh like for me when I'm on set
25:54when I'm booking
25:55when I'm doing stuff I'm making money for me and like I'm doing it because I like it and this
25:59is
25:59what I want to do but when you're a parent it's like no I'm doing it for the better cause
26:04of like
26:04my family and it's like a different drive almost it is a you know maybe not like the like the
26:10the
26:11better drive thing but uh for sure like I mean everything I do is you know it goes towards where
26:18my budget is yeah I'm like what we have planned for the year and it's like you know like I
26:22want to
26:23be able for us to get out and do things or I don't want my you know my kids to
26:29want things like
26:31yeah yeah I don't I don't I'm not also not like a person that's just like give you absolutely
26:36everything that you that you want yeah but like I don't want them to need for anything I don't want
26:42my I don't want my wife you know this my wife has been somebody who's worked her entire life yeah
26:47so when we had our second kid you know the cost of uh child care is expensive it's crazy oh
26:55my god
26:5770 75 percent of her check would probably have went to somebody who had to watch the kids and it
27:02didn't
27:02make any sense so you know we both agreed that you know she would stay home with the kids and
27:07I would
27:07work and I have to take an extra couple projects a year or whatever um and it's been fine but
27:12you know
27:13also like having her understand that like you know like what you're doing is of equal value
27:20to what I'm doing like yes I'm going out and I'm working I'm bringing you money you're staying at
27:24home with the kids it doesn't bring you money but this there I can't do one without the other like
27:28do you know what I mean so I think also having her understand that idea of you know us like
27:34do you
27:34know what I mean whatever I have is yours kind of thing and it's like LA sucks as far as
27:40like
27:41expenses and stuff like that like if I didn't have if if my work wasn't here I don't think I
27:46would be here it's too expensive yeah it's just doesn't make any sense anymore yeah even like the
27:51land like even with the kids I would never buy property out here for sure I mean we can't afford
27:56it either no like literally that because it's even if you have money it doesn't really make a
28:04difference here it's just so expensive everything like when I go home it like uh you know because
28:09you know we have this popularity in the vertical world and my you know my friends and family like
28:14oh you're doing really well out there right it's like yeah but I'm LA poor right right like there's
28:19a complete difference no I was like if I was living here yeah I'd be doing really good yeah but
28:25no
28:25my budget here's my budget yeah yeah it sucks yeah yeah for sure insurance for four or five people
28:33is you know there's yeah there's those things that I don't think about even as a human insurance
28:38food right the amount of food those little demons can eat and I call them little demons
28:43but they're my little demons yeah so much um but uh yeah I mean the amount of food we go
28:48through
28:49amount of raspberries and goldfish in my house and applesauce what's a fan favorite in the house
28:56right now and I mean for the first uh big portion of the youngest's life we you know we didn't
29:03give him
29:03a lot of sugar nothing like actually we don't give him any sugar yeah but he's just now we've
29:07kind of introduced him into some like salty snacks so he's had some chips so when this goldfish kick
29:13for the longest time was applesauce okay easy little applesauce pouches yeah yeah those are great but
29:18like couldn't talk him into like trying to eat other things like he just wanted that and he was
29:23comfortable with that yeah with the applesauce um it's 100 goldfish right now we have to we have to
29:28hide it so he can't see it and he still knows that it exists in the house he he can
29:32smell it
29:33so are they cheddar or pizza the rainbows oh the rainbows I think I think they are just cheddar
29:40but they're rainbow but they feel different with the purple one you know it does feel different
29:43yeah and then the oldest one he uh he he ate the hell out of some salt and vinegar chips
29:49yesterday
29:49honestly the honestly best chip flavor in my opinion salt vinegar I I like them yeah yeah yeah
29:57yeah that's interesting I feel like kids wouldn't love that it's an intense flavor
30:01yeah yeah and especially for him because he's um uh with him being on the spectrum like different
30:06things like food aversions it was a real thing yeah the amount of food that me and his mother have
30:12made and then quietly watch from the corner to see if he's gonna eat and if he looks at you
30:16you look
30:17like you're not yeah yeah yeah you're like no I'm not looking at you I'm not looking at you
30:21um but yeah I mean he loves him some salt and vinegar chips so he loves chips in general so
