For a few days in the month of June, Alicante looks like THIS... 🔥
Alicante transforms for Hogueras de San Juan, one of Spain's most spectacular festivals.
Giant sculptures called Hogueras take over the streets. Towering, colourful, wildly detailed, and made entirely from wood, papier-mâché and cardboard. Many are funny or satirical, poking fun at politicians, celebrities and trends.
But here's the twist...
They're only meant to last a few days.
On the night of 24th June, La Cremà, every single one of them is set on fire. 🔥 It's a tradition symbolising letting go of the old and welcoming in the summer.
Watching these incredible works of art burn to the ground is something you'll never forget. And yes, the Bomberos (firefighters) are standing by to put it all out afterwards! 🚒
Main celebrations run from around 20th to 24th June.
If you're visiting Alicante in June, make sure you see them before they go up in flames. 👀🔥
