00:00And we go now with our special segment on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Beyond the Game,
00:06the ball stays pure. Go ahead Luis, it's a pleasure to share the set with you.
00:11Good morning to you Lorena, good morning to our audience. We begin with this Beyond the Game, the ball stays
00:16pure with the topics that are going to take shape in this day of the World Cup.
00:20We have four games, all seem to be one-sided according to who's going to be first, but these are
00:24the games that deliver the best surprises for more after the break.
00:51Welcome to Beyond the Game, the ball stays pure. Mexico secures a narrow 1-0 victory over South Korea in
00:57a World Cup tightly contested match.
01:00At the Guadalajara's Akron Stadium, Mexico defeated South Korea 1-0 largely thanks to a critical error by the Korean
01:07goalkeeper.
01:08The game remained scoreless until the 50th minute when Korean keeper Kim Sung-kyo dropped a cross after a collision
01:15with a teammate, allowing Mexico's Luis Romo to volley into an empty net.
01:19South Korea pushed hard after falling behind, with Sung-kyo-min testing Mexico's defense multiple times, but El Tri's backline
01:26stood tall.
01:27Mexico controlled possession for long stretches, while Korea relied on quick counters that ultimately failed to find the equalizer.
01:34The win gives Mexico a crucial three points to open their World Cup campaign, while South Korea would look to
01:41bounce back in their next fixture.
01:51And as Mexico became the first team to secure a place in the World Cup knockout round, thousands of fans
01:57flooded the streets across the nation in celebration.
01:59Amid flags, green jerseys, chants and entire families, Mexico City experienced one of its biggest football nights in recent years,
02:06with over 400,000 reportedly gathering around the landmark Angel of Independence.
02:11The 1-0 victory over South Korea at a jubilant Guadalajara stadium on Thursday was a long time coming for
02:19the co-host nation after failing to get out of the group stage in Qatar 2022.
02:30The presence of three female referees in the same match marks a turning point in a historically patriarchal sport.
02:36For renowned sports journalist Victor Hugo Morales, this is an achievement of profound significance.
02:44There may be a precedent for this.
02:47The fact that there are three U.S. female referees is linked to the development of women's football in the
02:54United States.
02:55They gained a lot of experience, underwent extensive training and prepared thoroughly through women's football.
03:02And suddenly it began to be recognized that women could also referee, that is, officiate a football match.
03:09In a patriarchal society like that of most of the world, but particularly in Latin America, this is a very,
03:16very significant development.
03:20In an exclusive interview with a multi-platform Telesuru Curaçao football player, Tahir Chon talked about the importance and significance
03:27for future generations that the Caribbean island takes part for the first time in a World Cup.
03:32I look at it in Curaçao and maybe that's, you know, maybe that's been a bit of a fault of
03:37Curaçao, but I don't think in the past there's been much, you know, in terms of the football, there's not
03:43been much idols or much people that the kids can kind of look up to and say, you know what,
03:48one day I, you know, I aspire to be like that.
03:51And especially coming from Curaçao. So I think now, like I said to the boys all the time, we almost
03:57have an obligation as a team and an obligation as a player to represent Curaçao in a good way.
04:04Because like I said, we have the next generation looking. So who knows, maybe Curaçao qualifies for World Cup for
04:10a few years again, that they can say the 2026 has inspired them.
04:15Yeah, I think, I think the world is way too, way too busy with that, to be honest. I've been
04:20a bit tired about hearing that. Because I think then you kind of go into a conversation where probably a
04:26lot of people don't want to have.
04:27Because Curaçao, of course, was colonized. And then you get to go back way too much in time in terms
04:35of slavery, in terms of all of that. I don't think we want to get into that conversation right now.
04:41So I think for people, they have to understand, of course, when Curaçao was a part of Holland, I think
04:48a lot of the boys here are like, for example, born in Holland, why? Because parents are born in Curaçao,
04:52but potentially sometimes for, you know, they get a job offer, they go somewhere, and it's so much connected to
04:58Holland, that they might move to Holland.
05:00For example, I was lucky enough that I moved to Holland later on. But that's just because eventually for opportunities
05:07and a better, maybe a better way of life, you move to Holland, some move to Holland, some move to
05:13America.
05:14But I say to people all the time, I look at all the guys here, and I see them as
05:18my brothers. I see them as, you know, like you said, unique or so.
05:21So for me, it doesn't matter whether they were born here, whether they were born in Argentina or Canada, whatever,
05:29you know, the people want to say, I think, especially just the culture and their understanding the culture and understanding
05:36who Curaçao is, and obviously their parents being from there and getting all the education, even at home about Curaçao.
05:44Because when I speak to them, a lot of them know, you know, most of the things about Curaçao.
05:49So, like I said, I think for me and for us, we see it as we're all beauty Curaçao and
05:57we're all brothers here.
06:00And it's very much a family team. Like I said, we're super close with each other.
06:06Everyone's, you know, prepared to kind of go to war for each other here, and we see each other as
06:10brothers.
06:11And now we follow one of the most emotional stories of this World Cup.
06:15After refusing to pay the $15,000 required to obtain a U.S. visa, Ana Candida, mother of Vosinja, the
06:22star goalkeeper of Cape Verde National Team, was set to depart this Thursday to watch her son play in the
06:27FIFA World Cup.
06:28Details from our special envoy, Ander Vieira, in Cape Verde.
06:33Doña Ana Candida, mother of the goalkeeper of Vosinja, the Cape Verde team, will meet her son in the United
06:40States to watch him play in the World Cup.
06:42She gained international fame when the play revealed, after the inaugural match against Spain, that his mother has now applied
06:50for a visa because she refused to pay $15,000 demand by Donald Trump's government to the citizens of a
06:59list of countries, including Cape Verde.
07:01However, the Cape Verdean Football Federation carried it all, the necessary management, and the goalkeeper of Malda will arrive in
07:09time for the second match of her team against Uruguay.
07:15When I get there, I'm going to hug my son, give him a big hug and a kiss, wish him
07:21good luck, and hope he gets off to a good start in the World Cup.
07:25I hope everything goes well, especially that he scores a goal and shines at the tournament.
07:32Born in San Vicente, one of the ten islands of Cape Verde, Malda and her son shared a history of
07:39hard work and overcoming adversity.
07:42Doña Ana recalls the early days of the goalkeeper who told Spain advancing the first match, which ended in a
07:520-0 draw.
07:54This is how it all began. Ever since he was a child, he always played football.
07:59He would go to school, and whenever he could, he'd already have the ball at his feet, playing on the
08:04ground, in the dirt, and everywhere else.
08:07Then he just kept playing until he became a professional athlete.
08:11In light of a senior performance at the World Cup, his mother shares his feelings.
08:18I am very proud and happy for everything the people of Cape Verde and the whole world are experiencing through
08:23this organization,
08:24for supporting football and also the World Cup.
08:26We hope to perform well at the World Cup and that everything goes well with God's help.
08:32Her prediction for the match against Spain came true, and now, with Sunday's match against Uruguay on the horizon, she
08:40dares to dream even bigger.
08:44They are going to win. Uruguay isn't stronger than Cape Verde, because Cape Verde also has good players.
08:51Doña Ana is more than just Bozinha's mother.
08:55She represents so many women who, if necessary, will travel the world to accompany and support their children's dreams.
09:02André Vieira, Rogério Vessosi, Alexandre Souza, Telesur, Cabo Verde.
09:08Well, this is all for this edition of Beyond the Game, the ball is pure.
09:11The games this afternoon begin at 3 p.m., Caracas time, with host nation, United States receiving Australia.
09:18I believe this is one of the most tightly contested matches. We'll see what happens.
09:21But today also plays Brazil, the five-time champions against Haiti.
09:25Clear favorite for that match is Brazil, of course.
09:27And Morocco also will be playing their second game against Scotland, which I believe Morocco is likely to take the
09:33win.
09:34We'll go back to you, Lorena.
