00:05His measure, not mine. One of the most important details in the parable of the talents
00:11is one we often skip past in our rush to reach the moral of the story. Before the servants do
00:17anything, the master distributes the talents to each one according to his ability, not equally,
00:24not randomly, according to each person's individual capacity. One received five,
00:31one received two, and one received one. Three different amounts. Three different capacities.
00:37And when the master returns and settles accounts, he praises the servant who doubled two with exactly
00:44the same words as the servant who doubled five. Well done, good and faithful servant.
00:50He did not rebuke the servant with two for failing to produce what the servant with five had achieved.
00:57He measured each person's fruitfulness in proportion to what they had been given.
01:02This is how God measures us, too. He is not comparing your output to mine or holding your
01:08harvest up against your neighbor's. He is asking, Given what I gave you, your gifts, your season,
01:15your capacity, your circumstances, what have you done with it? Comparison is one of the most effective
01:21ways to neutralize a believer. You scroll through someone else's life and see ten achievements and
01:28your two feel shameful. But you don't see their capacity. You don't know what they've sacrificed.
01:35You don't know whether they're in a sprint while you're in a marathon. You are holding a conversation
01:41with an incomplete picture and calling it a verdict on your worth. The only servant who was called
01:47wicked was the one who produced nothing. Not the one who produced less than others, the one who buried
01:54what he had been given entirely. Don't let comparison paralyze you into becoming that servant.
02:01Prayer. Father, I confess that I have let comparison steal my contentment and my courage.
02:07I have looked at others and called myself insufficient. Forgive me. Help me to understand
02:14the specific capacity you have given me, and to multiply faithfully what is in my hand,
02:20not what is in someone else's. Let my measure of fruitfulness be set by you, not by anyone around me.
02:28Amen. Reflect. Where has comparison most robbed you of joy or motivation? Ask God to show you what
02:36faithful fruitfulness looks like specifically for you in your current season and capacity.
