00:00Get the tissues ready. You'll need them because this literal lifeline is an outlet to help the
00:05gone never really leave us. Here's the backstory. Corey Dembeck, a U.S. Army veteran, woke to
00:12horrific news that one of his daughter's friends had passed away. Joel, four at the time, had been
00:18playing with his daughter a mere two weeks prior. I just couldn't, I couldn't imagine like how to,
00:24you know, how would it be like to be a parent of like a four-year-old girl? Like it
00:28was just having
00:30him gone and uh and uh and it messed me up so I was like and I right then and
00:36there I knew that I was
00:36like I'm gonna build one of these things for them. Corey brought a rotary phone, supplies and tools
00:42into a park and attached it to an old growth cedar tree for family and friends to call Joel in
00:48heaven.
00:49This is Joel's older brother, Jaden. I love you so, so much. We all miss you. We all love you.
00:57Joel's family and friends still visit the phone three years later and the installation has become
01:03a further inspiration for those grieving loved ones. There are now approximately 50 lifelines across the
01:09United States.
