00:02Hidden deep within the Tianchan mountains lie the Kholsai lakes, often called the pearls of the Tianchan.
00:09Getting here takes time, but surrounded by scenery like this, the journey feels more than worthwhile.
00:15This is Modern Nomads.
00:27Kholsai Lakes National Park lies in the mountainous Almaty region.
00:32From Almaty, the road winds through the mountains before arriving at the park's first major attraction, Lake Kainde.
00:39Few places look as surreal as Kainde Lake, but the season fiction is one of Kazakhstan's most extraordinary natural wonders.
00:47Kainde is a relatively young lake.
00:49It was formed when a powerful earthquake in 1911 blocked a pine-covered valley, which gradually filled with water.
00:57More than a century later, the submerged forest remains remarkably preserved,
01:02while the bare trunks rising above the lake gave it its haunting appearance.
01:07Obviously we like hiking, so that's why we're here at Kandy and then yesterday we were at Kholsai.
01:13And if you like hiking, if you like to be in nature, then it's definitely a place where you should
01:20go.
01:20Besides hiking, visitors come here to admire the lake's turquoise waters and capture its otherworldly scenery.
01:32Just 20 kilometers away lie the Kholsai Lakes, which give the national park its name.
01:38The area is home to snow leopards, bears and many rare species of birds and plants listed in Kazakhstan's Red
01:45Book.
01:45The lake is located in a gorge. That's the meaning of the Kazakh name Kholsai.
01:49And from the middle of the lake, the name suddenly makes perfect sense.
01:52Framed by pine-covered slopes on all sides, the lake feels hidden among the mountains.
01:58Reflected in the still waters, the surrounding forest seems to stretch even farther.
02:03Hiking, boating and horse riding are among the most popular activities here.
02:07The length of Kholsai lake is one of the animals that touch the lure of tourists.
02:15The water is the planet of the landscape and watch the ocean and travel.
02:21Theums have more vertical星, Fifa-V науч看到 all trying to a AK and trek to a trip.
02:28In the only two, the third coast is also build out.
02:33Located between 1,800 and 2,800 meters above sea level, each of the three Alpine lakes offers a different
02:41experience.
02:42We came yesterday and we wanted to visit the Coastside Lake 1 and 2.
02:49And we can see a lot of things like a lake and mountain and snow.
02:56So a very, very beautiful place.
02:59The Almaty region is Kazakhstan's most popular tourist destination.
03:03Within the region, Kualsai Lakes National Park ranks as the second most visited natural attraction.
03:10Last year alone, it welcomed more than 650,000 visitors.
03:15Yet despite its popularity, park authorities say their priority remains the same –
03:20protecting nature while carefully managing tourism growth.
03:24For example, we have nine tourist places in Kualsai.
03:41Visitors to Kualsai can choose from a growing number of places to stay, ranging from hotels to family-run guest
03:48houses.
03:48For Serik Shalov, hospitality is about more than providing a bed for the night.
03:53It's an opportunity to share Kazakh culture through a modern take on the traditional yurt.
04:19Serik Shalov's pride and joy is a giant dombra connecting the yurt.
04:25But the real spirit of the place emerges around the dinner table, where guests are introduced to Kazakh music first
04:31-hand.
04:40Nearly three-quarters of the park is protected land.
04:43Recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve, Kualsai Lakes National Park offers a rare chance to experience nature much as
04:51it has existed here for centuries.
