00:29Yep, his character's fling with a famous news anchor was inspired by Anderson Cooper.
00:35Randles revealed on the Daily Beast Obsessed podcast that in real life,
00:39he had a very brief relationship with the older CNN star when Randles was 25
00:44and Cooper would have been about 37 at the time.
00:47Randles said he told the Girls showrunners Lena Dunham and Jenny Connor about the romance
00:52and they thought it was such a fun story that it became a plotline on the show.
00:56You may remember in season 5, Randles' character Elijah Krantz dates a well-known gay TV personality
01:02named Dill Harcourt, played by Corey Stoll.
01:05But in their teary-eyed breakup scene, Elijah confronts Dill at work,
01:09which helps him realize he's looking for a special someone who's just not him.
01:14What can I say, Elijah? Love is so mysterious.

01:22No, I'm just curious. I'm really curious. What does this person even look like?
01:25I don't know. Someone closer to my own age.

01:37Back in 2016, Stoll dodged a question by the Queerty blog about whether the storyline was inspired by Anderson Cooper.

01:45I don't know. I was playing Dill Harcourt. I did not base this character on anybody.
01:50Stoll also got to the bottom of Dill's surprising sexual position,
01:54saying it wasn't his idea, it was in the script, meant to be a sort of unexpected character twist,

02:05Randall's breakout role on Girls made him a fan favorite.
02:08In April, he snapped a selfie with the Hannah to his Elijah, Lena Dunham, on her fame-sick book tour.
02:14And last month, on The Tonight Show, he addressed the rumor swirling about a potential Girls movie.
