00:00you wanted or you could send him as well yeah or you could go to a beach and sip cocktails
00:05your choice our next guest has done lots of crazy things like that we've she's been on our screens
00:09for over 30 years uh playing lindsey corkett of course in brookside more recently she joined the
00:13cast of corrie as cassie but claire was also swapping soap land for the stage taking to
00:19musical theater with one of its most iconic characters yes you know who she's going to be
00:23miss hannigan it's going to be touring all around the uk and ireland it is of course you are in
00:29annie annie dream role what a dream role claire you know it's so lovely i've got to that age now
00:36where i start getting off at the parts of alcoholic cougars
00:44do you know when i was at school all my mates we were all obsessed with annie and some wanted
00:49to be
00:50molly some duffy some annie and i always wanted to be hannigan yeah from a young age carol burnett
00:55yeah yeah of course and what an icon she was amazing and and and love why you is doing the
01:01role as well she was in with us last week have you had any advice uh yeah she's saying she's
01:06loving it i sent her flowers i went and visited her on the first night and yeah i mean she
01:11says
01:12she's loving it's a happy cast also daddy warbucks we worked together on the cruise ships when we were
01:1819. no so we've been mates for 30 odd years and it's great we're going to be touring together
01:24alex born so i'm excited about that my other mate carl very happy cast apparently oh you know what i
01:30always regret actually not seeing paulo grady oh i know as miss hannigan i think i mean
01:39lily savage and miss hannigan they're like peas in a pod well for my 40th birthday my mate pete price
01:47made me a collage for my toilet and it was all my life my career and he knew my dream
01:53role was
01:53hannigan and he superimposed my head onto paulo grady's body no so i've sat on my toilet for 15 years
02:01like manifesting that's great so paulo will be with you in some way shape of how i manifested this
02:10role from the throne yeah there's something very apt about you always looking at miss hannigan
02:18because there's something there's something about that role and that that's she's a heavy drink
02:23how is playing drunk on stage or on screen so it's very different actually because i had to do a
02:30scene in corrie where i was drunk and i was nervous i'd never really done drunk before and i thought
02:36the best drunk on tv is steve mcfadden oh yes and he's a good mate of mine i asked him
02:44a few questions
02:44and then i watched him on youtube steve mcfadden drunk scenes just watch him and he kind of does
02:51nothing but he's always a beat behind where he should be and i watched him uh and i had to
02:58do all
02:58these drunken scenes but on stage it's got to get over the footlights of course it can't be subtle
03:02yes you know it's got to be big and out there there's nothing subtle about miss hannah ganita
03:07no what about corrie has this has that been a dream role for you as well i love corrie well
03:14because
03:14you've got to be into real legends as well what was it like being with bill and maureen litman i
03:20know
03:20well my first scene normally scenes are about three pages long four pages tops and my very first scene
03:27was a 14 page two-hander with dame maureen litman wow baptism of fire but brilliant lady oh god it
03:36was
03:37a great scene and that was the very first scene i did i made sure i knew it inside out
03:42back to front
03:43i was on it i didn't have a nerve in my body then the next scene i came back for
03:48a week a month or so
03:49later was in the rovers and i had to flirt with dev in my bottle went flirting with dev in
03:55the rovers i
03:56was shaking how do you practice your lines you practice them at home or what do you do because
04:02like a 14 page do-hander that's i mean repetition repetition and the lines got easier because it is
04:10hard learning lines especially when you're perimenopausal you know i forget my own son's
04:16name sometimes and it got easier learning the lines but people like alan halsell's um simon gregson
04:23they look at the lines and know them they have like a photographic memory so but i had to put
04:28the
04:28timing oh and what about jackson you just mentioned your boy he's 11 now yeah is he gonna come on
04:36tour
04:36with you doing is he so i'm really oh he's gorgeous i'm really lucky because i open an eye on
04:447th of
04:45july in cardiff and a week later he breaks up so the plan was him and my mom who's over
04:52there in the
04:52corner he was gonna come out they were gonna come down to cardiff and be there for my second week
04:59in
04:59cardiff he's now telling me he's going to an art school so i'll have to wait so he's well i
05:04have to
05:05sign him up for this art school he wants to go to this art school very creative like his mom
05:08yeah and
05:09then he'll um he'll join me on tour and it'll be great there's kids in the show yes we'll get
05:14a group
05:15of mates he'll be on the road with me for the summer holidays maybe sneak him into the cast at
05:19some
05:19point surely yeah for a little wig on him yeah you love it you love it uh what can you
05:25tell us about
05:25your final scenes in cory because how has it been to shoot them and sort of be able to say
05:30goodbye
05:30the most wonderful exit storyline i couldn't have wished for better brilliant writers on it great
05:37storyline i mean kate brooks our producer she served me well damon rocheford all the writers have
05:42done a brilliant job and there's humor in it it's heartbreaking scenes it's dramatic it's explosive
05:51uh and what i can say because it's been out there already the information they bring in tyrone's dad
05:59so a blast from the past turns up and it's explosive wow it's brilliant so why have you decided
06:07that now is the time to live because i'm guessing that when you do a job you love and you're
06:12working
06:12with the cast it's that brilliant and you know it inside out and you're covered like it must be a
06:18really tricky decision to make so when you sat on the toilet for 15 years with a picture your phone
06:24pings and it's michael harrison saying do you want to do hannigan i thought if i don't do this i'll
06:29always regret it yeah and i i love theater i've always wanted to play the part i just thought
06:35if i don't do this now i'll regret it and i've i've been very lucky with me storylines in cory
06:41poison and bill roacher ken barlow national treasure yes that was a great storyline i've been very lucky
06:48but now's the right time a musical theater of course has always been in your heart you've had
06:52some incredible roles in the past i remember you interviewing me in my dressing room for chicago
06:572001 2001 sat on my window ledge with a big brown quiff
07:02a little bit grayer now though okay your head hasn't changed color though how does that work
07:07oh thanks from a bottle
07:10so of course that you look better now than you did then thank you
07:13all the way back so 25 years ago i mean you've been in musical theater
07:16you did that of course guys and dolls opposite peace ways patrick oh my goodness
07:21it's really nice chat please tell me what because it's going to break my heart
07:25every night i had to snog him on stage pretending 2,000 people weren't looking
07:30i was like yes dirty job but someone's got to do it
07:35i know it's wonderful i've been very lucky with her
07:38with her a lot of people have worked with over the years you know working opposite paula
07:42she played barry grant yes of course and then you know lovely simon gregson and
07:46cory alan jenny okay i've been really lucky it's been lovely um i just wanted to ask you claire
07:53because i think it was last week there was a lovely tribute to the amazing mickey hatton
07:56who was someone that we both knew you knew him very well he trained me for my boxing fight on
08:01sport
08:02relief all those years ago he was my trainer so i got to go and actually did you go to
08:07his gym
08:07went to his gym when he was still fighting as well and he put me through my paces absolutely broke
08:12me
08:12it was an extraordinary have they made you laugh as well don't they endlessly yeah when you're broken
08:16on the floor in piles of sweat he just made you laugh it was an amazing tribute to him he
08:21was
08:21somebody that will be remembered as an icon for so many years won't he yeah absolutely i feel very
08:26blessed that he was in my life he was wonderful um great man his send off the funeral was amazing
08:34yeah and he's a legend you know yeah good good man really good man uh sorely missed but so fondly
08:41remembered and it and and the two of you are dancing nice but him on dancing and ice well it
08:45was just that was the thing i love about he was terrible he was out but he knew it he
08:51was happy to
