00:00Many in the media have pressed me to say more since Thursday, but I'm a proud parliamentarian.
00:06I wanted first to speak in this House as I take my seat on the back benches for the first
00:13time for more than ten years.
00:16I took the decision to resign with the very greatest regret and reluctance.
00:22I continue to be certain about this decision.
00:24In time, I believe it will be seen as necessary in securing the future of our armed forces
00:31and of our alliances.
00:34It's been the privilege of my life to work alongside the exceptional people who serve
00:39this country in defence, military and civilian alike.
00:44They work 24-7, so often unseen.
00:48They are the very best of Britain.
00:51They and the new Defence Secretary have my fullest support.
00:55Your head is true.
