00:00Laws are rules, but they're also an expression of our values.
00:04They shape the social contract.
00:07And so this will change the conversations that parents have
00:10and the expectations of children over time.
00:13It will make a huge difference.
00:15It will make our children safer.
00:17It will make our children happier.
00:19It will give them more time, more security, more freedom to grow up, more opportunity.
00:28Just in terms of success, that will be a drop-off in children on social media.
00:37It won't be complete because some of them will get around it,
00:40but a massive drop-off in children on social media is sort of step number one.
00:45I think step number two, probably equally if not more important, is a cultural change,
00:53a sense that our children can grow up differently.
00:57And have better and more enriching childhoods as a result.
01:01Now that will take a bit longer.
01:02In relation to the legacy issues, I see this differently.
01:08This is a huge issue for the country.
01:10This isn't about any one individual.
01:12It is something which people in this room have been concerned about living with
01:18and campaigning about for years.
01:21And I think we do them, and all those who have been concerned about this,
01:25a disservice to try to put that into a particular week when there's a by-election.
01:32Actually, that's not what it's about.
01:33This is a huge...
01:34This is a statement of our values, who we are as a country.
01:37And it's a way of actually bringing our country together.
01:40So for me, this is bigger than some of the usual to and fro's of politics,
01:44although there's plenty of that.
01:47Look, I honestly think that across world leaders,
01:53there has always been a recognition that leaders have to take steps to protect children.
01:58I don't think that's controversial.
02:01There will always be arguments as to exactly what the limits of that are
02:04and what rules should be in place.
02:07But I don't see that as a problem.
02:11And obviously, we're about to go off to the G7 later on today,
02:15and I will discuss this with world leaders when I'm there.
02:18Indeed. Thank you.
