00:00just how surreal it's going to be to watch back-to-back-to-back Guardians game and no
00:06Hosey because you I can't remember the stat you cited earlier I Hosey's missed such a small amount
00:13of time 26 games since 2020 that it's just I'm just so used to him being in the lineup every
00:19day he is one of the few automatics you've had in the lineup yeah I mean it's you know it
00:23will be
00:23weird uh I it'll also be weird even just I think more like uh ground ball to third base yeah
00:28oh
00:28wait Schneeman is fielding that now like it's just that part's going to be a little bit weird for
00:32people I actually think uh so Hosey Hosey's still a decent defender I actually think defensively you
00:39might be okay with especially if Gabe Arias is playing third base most nights the one way and
00:45I think Gabe Arias is still a very nice ball player is the glove side of things now the bad
00:50we don't
00:50talk about yeah is that right uh I I just I I don't know it stinks but it's not I'm
00:55trying not to take
00:56the end of the world approach to this because it's not I just I thought people got a little
00:59carried away over the weekend with it all uh you're in an AL that is what four teams are above
01:04500 right
01:05now it's not as if anybody's running away with the AL central you're in a great spot and he's not
01:11going
01:11away for three months this was not a season-ending injury this isn't even like what the Yankees were
01:16dealing with with Aaron Judge where he's just gone for two and a half months and it's like all right
01:20well
01:20that's a big hole to fill it no it's even it's it's less than that it's J-Ram yes the
01:24best player
01:25for the Guardians for the previous decade but it's five weeks potentially and he's come back
01:30from this injury within four weeks previously in his career yeah and here's the other thing I think
01:34the timing of the injury is maybe like if you if this injury happens if you're out for five weeks
01:40you want it now as opposed to even five weeks later in the the regular season where you're you're gonna
01:47be right around the trade deadline or after like you still have if he comes back towards the end of
01:52July somewhere middle July you still have two and a half months of him to one get right but two
01:59of his production during the most critical part of the season and you don't really have to make any
02:05deadline moves to kind of adjust for the idea that J-Ram's gone because by the time the deadline
02:09happens J-Ram will be back so I actually think that's like I'm curious how the Guardians respond
02:16and it's it's not just the external candidates it's the internal ones as well most years uh Hosey
02:22gets hurt and okay well we'll just see where this goes we'll let it see it play out right now
02:27this is
02:28the most aggressive I've ever seen the Guardians early in the season as it pertains to bringing the
02:35young guys up and even like the Patrick Bailey trade that was a very aggressive trade that is by the
02:41way paid off dividends to this point and so it has me wondering not necessarily replacing Hosey's
02:47production at third because you're going to try and piecemeal that because you're not going to
02:51replace Hosey but whether they look at this and go all right maybe we do need an everyday center
02:56fielder and maybe we pull that that trigger four weeks earlier so we can make sure we can bide the
03:02time till Hosey comes back I mean they definitely had to have known they were at least one bat away
03:05uh even with Hosey in the lineup now with Hosey not in the lineup you're at least two or three
03:10bats away and so like they they know that they understand that I don't think they're going to do
03:14anything as far as decision making though in this little stretch here I really don't uh now it may
03:19be a maybe a tiny tiny piece but even that would surprise me I think they're just going to try
03:22to
03:22fill it internally so I most years I don't even question it this year just because of how they've
03:28acted I get what you're saying I still I still just question it but I and by the way I
03:32it's not just
03:33the external stuff though like Cooper Engel has gotten a lot of outfield work that to me the biggest
03:38thing about Hosey if you can't replicate the power getting somebody else up here gonna just get on
03:43base is critical um whether you put them in the top three which you wouldn't do with Cooper Engel
03:49or whether you you get that later in the lineup that's a kid they're trying to find playing time
03:54for now maybe you're a little bit more comfortable quanties in center and then Cooper Engel gets uh you
04:01know almost becomes like a super utility player like left field first base dh and catching but you
04:07definitely have you definitely have a lot of options you know we've talked about like the
04:10log jam that we've had between shortstop and second base now that Bazana's up here playing the way he
04:14is and Rokio's playing the way he is this does give you an opportunity to maybe fill in the gaps
04:19in
04:19certain ways because you can replace third baseman from a defensive standpoint with some of the guys
04:23we're talking about well I mean even at least shuffle it around even with Arias and how they view
04:28Arias if if you know he comes up and he has a bad two-week stretch do you pivot quicker
04:34than normal
04:34to just to bring back burrito depending on where he's at or kind of his so I just I'm I'm
04:40very
04:40curious to see kind of how they handle this because I I think this team still has it all right
04:46there in
04:46front of them and I I just haven't felt that way and I know that the listen all the rebuttals
04:52that
04:52people are going to have is the offense isn't that good yeah but I think they have the room to
04:57grow
04:57this year and I don't I haven't felt that way in previous years um even like the the thin I
05:02know
05:02Castro Vince was on the midday show today yeah and mentioned well they might trade for another arm
05:07because once you get past their five starters it gets thin real quick um yeah okay but all of their
05:14starters have been going so far like you haven't even had a scare from one of the those five guys
05:20right so like uh I know the bullpen again continues to be hit or miss depending on what week it
05:26is
05:27I think you have the depth there so I do want to see the guardians not even just about the
05:33Jose
05:33side of things I still want them to approach this as we haven't played our best baseball yet and we
05:39might not till after the deadline and you know that's okay like we're still going to presume that
05:45this is a team that can go far well they there because we have the raw clay that we haven't
05:49had in
05:49previous years you got a long runway to figure it out is the difference here in most years you might
05:53be
05:53hitting the panic button and you might be pressing and you might already start to to feel like oh no
05:58this is this can go sideways quickly and we have to do x in order to get somewhere you don't
06:02really
06:03have to with this American League right now 83 wins will get you in the postseason this year uh it's
06:07just there's just it's not competitive enough in the American League so you got this runway to try to
06:12figure it all out and then just make sure by the time you get to the playoffs you're in a
06:15good spot
06:16I think by the end of the year by the way um and and listen there are years where you
06:21just
06:21completely faceplant obviously well I was gonna say there are years where there have been like
06:24an 86 win team is like the two seed so I don't I don't want to make it seem like
06:28this stuff doesn't
06:28happen there is a part of me that does believe by the end of the year you're going to have
06:32five or
06:32six strong AL teams and a certain amount of teams that will have fallen back to the pack um so
06:39I don't
06:39necessarily think 83 wins is going to get you in this year that being said I I I think if
06:46you
06:46believe in this team the way it seems they believe in this team this might be the kind of year
06:52and I
06:52don't want I think it's just so lazy at this point to start barking out for trades and stuff like
06:58that
06:58I always hope they make trades when they believe in their team yeah this would be the year where
07:03I'm not just I guess maybe this year I'm thinking you might have the ponies not just to to win
07:08in
07:08the AL you might have a chance to win the World Series and I honestly don't recall the last time
07:13I mean
07:14maybe 2017 maybe 2018 is the last time that I've really been able to say that that the other times
07:20that they've won since 2018 2019 pretty much all of them I was like well I think you're a good
07:27AL
07:27Central team or well I think you you know maybe you'll get to the ALCS maybe you'll get to the
07:33second round yeah I and again the proofs they've got to prove they can do this and right now is
07:39the
07:39best chance to prove it because you're gonna have to have other people than Hosey carry you there
07:44like Bazzana if DeLauder can stay off the AL like DeLauder like Angel Martinez like Schneeman
07:50yeah we gotta get it we gotta get a DeLauder update at some point yeah I don't know where that's
07:54been
07:55hiding anytime a team just doesn't have something immediately a little cagey I assume well some of
08:02this is you know it's informing it it actually is the judge injury that the weirdness of the Yankees
08:07messed that up the the judge injury where well is it a is you know did he pull something in
08:11his ribs
08:12is it was it the thoracic outlet syndrome which is like a 14 month injury because it's chase and
08:19because the Guardians haven't quickly like identified and said here's the timetable it absolutely has
08:24me quaking in my boots because I don't when I heard contusion I got excited because it's like
08:28that's not that's usually just a bruise that's not really the end of the world that's initially by the
08:32way how the that's not how the Yankees put it out there but that was one of the initial remember
08:36there were like four different injury reports on what the injury was one of them was rib contusion
08:41for Aaron you're higher on this team than I am right now I understand that I I'm just I'm not
08:46as encouraged by the offense as of late and if you take away their best hitter and J Ram I
08:50just I
08:50just worry about how you're going to put together enough runs I mean so much of this team was already
08:54built in winning one run games to begin with anyway that when you take away J Ram like they're
08:58they're playing in the margins as is and so when you take away a great player like that that's
09:03gonna hurt you so you're right just has me a little alarmed guys and I and I I want to
09:07be clear that I
09:08might be a little Pollyanna in this but I I hope that those guys in that dugout look at it
09:15the way I
09:15look at it this is a great time to prove you can win without Hosey which you have done for
09:21most of
09:22the season Hosey I know that there's the offensive gravity of having him in the two spot and what that
09:27means for the hitters around him but if you're able to win for the next five weeks or just stay
09:32500 for the next five weeks without Hosey I think that's a tremendous tremendous vote of confidence
09:39for this team it is fair to wonder whether those guys are going to start feeling the the weight of
09:44Hosey's absence totally get that but I'm giving them this chance to prove because if you can win
09:49without Hosey in that lineup imagine what you can do when he comes back and all of a sudden his
09:54off
09:54that that offensive gravity is back in that two hole sure uh guardians right now are second in
09:59wild card standings uh the team right behind them it's actually the a's and the rangers both tied
10:03they're a game under 500 that's what I'm talking about when I say like they got some room here in
10:07order to have a stretch that maybe isn't the greatest baseball they've ever seen and then you get Hosey
10:11back five weeks from now and then you'll just kick off from there 216-474-0092 how does this impact
10:18the
10:18guardians at the deadline I I to me I'm I'm curious about how it impacts you right now because the
10:25truth is the guardians unless they are 10 games out of it and I'd be surprised if they were by
10:30the
10:31time the deadline came around unless they're that far out they're never 100 sellers uh in and oh by
10:36the way even when they're 10 games unless they're 10 games up they're never 100 buyers either I expect
10:42them to be a little bit of both when it comes to the deadline but if if all of a
10:48sudden Bazzana
10:49and the other guys can carry this lineup for the next five weeks I think that's the vote of confidence
10:55that can maybe change people like yourself who you're like I don't see the same things Nick do I
11:00think that's what the next five weeks can be about and they got to prove it yeah I mean they're
11:05gonna
11:06have to do a lot to impress me here uh from that side of things but I mean it's open
11:10for him if
11:10Bazzana starts hitting uh the way he had been before his little slump if all of a sudden DeLaura's
11:15tearing the cover off the ball like it's it's there there's enough talent on this team I think
11:19you know I kind of think of this team in the same way that I think a lot of people
11:22think about the
11:22Spurs and obviously we don't have a Wemby where it's year three and he's generational uh but more
11:27about like uh Dylan Harper type player where you're like you know one day he's going to be a top
11:3110 player
11:31in this league might be a couple years from now but you know he's going to be a top 10
11:34player in this
11:35league and it's watching these guys go through the levels that it takes to then kind of
11:39walk to crawl to run that's what we're seeing with some of these young guys they have the talent
11:43it's just whether or not they're going to be able to get to it all right here in the next
11:46I don't
11:47know five weeks to showcase everything they can
