00:00No! No!
00:11Father saw that Holy Ghost!
00:14Father saw that Holy Ghost!
00:18What's behind that silver door?
00:20You'll find out.
00:25Soon enough.
00:30But man, look, Coffey is such a, I mean, Billings is a certain character, but Coffey, there's so much tragedy
00:38and loss to him, and yet there's so much potential, you know, and trying to realize that in sort of
00:44the same sort of visage is very interesting as you progress in.
00:49Could you sort of talk about finding sort of that influx because he's defeated and yet he's not defeated. Does
00:56that make sense?
00:56Yeah, that's a really lovely way to say that. Yeah, potential.
01:02That's such a good way to say that.
01:04Yes.
01:06Yeah, so he's a talent, he's a very, he's a brilliant structural engineer.
01:10He can obviously put things together in a way that most of our minds can't.
01:17So he is extremely gifted.
01:20And I think he, so even in the team forming, there's questions that he asks.
01:26He says, this isn't right.
01:27But I think he's been beaten down by an experience.
01:30And those are the two halves of like, you know, his roommate just died in some horrific way.
01:38He knows the cost of dreaming, the cost of potential.
01:44So that, so I think there's something human about being like, it's going to, it's going to be hard.
01:49It's going to hurt. It's not going to work. I'm still going to try.
01:52Woof.
01:54And he needs some focusing, but you know, yeah.
02:00All right, let's go again.
02:01Ta, ta.
02:04She's a rock star, huh? How good is she?
02:07What are you doing here?
02:08I wanted to surprise Isabel.
02:10Marisol?
02:12You're supposed to call. You can't just show up.
02:14You didn't pick up. Hey, you do not ignore me.
02:16You don't deserve that little girl.
02:18Get off of him!
02:21Is this a hospital?
02:23Oh, kind of.
02:25You know where you are?
02:29You in the jungle, baby.
02:31This ain't right.
02:32You can't do this, please.
02:35Please!
02:37But it's also like the, you can see sort of the time.
02:40I know, how did you, because I mean, obviously the book's there, but the thing is, you have to build
02:44a lot of what's back up.
02:47Obviously, same thing with Silo, but here, it's just sort of, you have to see the heartbreak or it's just
02:52sort of the crush on his soul, you know,
02:56without actually him saying my soul is being crushed.
03:00Does that make sense?
03:01Yeah.
03:01How do you sort of find that?
03:03Because that's, that's an energy thing that's as much what's not said as what is said, you know?
03:09Well, I think, yeah, that's, that's a great question.
03:13I think we had a lot of help, right?
03:16Victor's there.
03:17Chris is there.
03:18Karin's there.
03:18There's help to situate us.
03:21And then we had a great company of actors who we kind of were just like, we've all spent years
03:27here together.
03:28How, how do we relate to each other?
03:31What are our inside jokes?
03:33And I bring that up because once you start building that, you start thinking about, oh, I've done this 100
03:41times.
03:43Everyone knows that, like, I've probably changed my plan to get us out of this 100 times.
03:50I've seen Dory at this table 100 times.
03:53And I'm not saying that any of this is conscious, but that sense of like, that weight starts, you walk
03:59through those.
03:59I've walked through this hallway that looks like this other hallway 100 times.
04:05I have the fear that if I don't take this pill, I will never get out, even though I know
04:10I'm, you know, like this.
04:11So I think somewhere in the soup of all these people trying to be like, we've been here spending time
04:16in all these conversations, that darkness, that weight starts to permeate the space.
04:24My name is Dr. Arnand.
04:27And the record today is October 12th.
04:31Welcome to New Hyde Hospital.
04:35I want to prepare you for what comes next.
04:38But I need you to remain calm.
04:46That's for me.
04:47It's not for me.
04:49But that also takes with you, so specifically with coffee, even more so than Dory or definitely Pepper, it takes
04:57on a physical manifestation.
04:58The way you hold and write, the way you walk through, even into the end of episode four, just the
05:06way he comes out in a way.
05:10Says so much about him, but also makes you feel like, God, I just wish that he would have, you
05:16know, gotten out.
05:18Let's just put it that way.
05:20It's thought, but I also, I don't know, because it's also like sense.
05:24I don't know.
05:25You know, it's like, I know what you mean that there, there's, I don't want to.
05:30I mean, are you reacting off of Dan in certain ways, the way he's playing a scene versus say, you
05:36know, Judith?
05:37I think, I think I have two answers, and they're both kind of funny.
05:43One is, I think, yeah, you just try to listen, you know what I mean?
05:47You try to look at the page, you try to listen.
05:49And it's not all up here.
05:52It's just, you spend time and time thinking about it.
05:55But then also, like, I listen with my body.
05:59You know, I started experimental theater, I did dance, I did whatever.
06:02I think I make shapes sometimes that I'm not always like, oh, I'm going to make this shape.
06:08It's just the shape communicates how I feel and where I'm at.
06:12I'm trying not to sound like an actor.
06:14I just, I just love somebody.
06:18I think the two things that resonated is, or one, a few, one thing that resonated is a sense that
06:24if I do everything right, things will work out.
06:27And what it feels like to feel like you've done everything right, and it hasn't worked out.
06:32And why the world doesn't make sense.
06:34These stories that you hold, and you just go, and then you start to hold that, that you, it's somehow
06:39your responsibility.
06:40That's something I felt.
06:42You know, he's extremely educated.
06:44He's been successful.
06:45And there's still some part of him that isn't fitting into the mold.
06:49And I think that, and then I loved him simply because he still just thought the world should be a
06:54good place and that it's worth loving and caring, even when it's hard, for justice.
07:09All right, that's close enough.
07:14A malevolent presence resides in this hospital.
07:17It lives behind that door.
07:21Jesus.
07:24It is the devil.
07:27It lives in there.
07:29That's what hurts you.
07:31And it will keep hurting you until you comply or you die.
07:39Did it help knowing that versus say something like, like a multi seasonal thing?
07:46Does it change the approach?
07:48All I know is, and I'm almost, I'm like, what I remember is reading the book, and I just had
07:55to put it down when he died.
07:56I remember that feeling.
07:58I was just like.
07:59Wow.
08:00And so I, that, I think that's my best answer to be like, so in some ways, knowing it, no,
08:08it doesn't help.
08:09Do you know what I mean?
08:09Because when I was reading it, he just went.
08:11Yeah.
08:12I was like, whoa.
08:14And we had so many conversations on set about his death.
08:18But I'm curious from everything I'm saying, like, because help me understand what, what, what are you receiving from what
08:25I'm saying?
08:26You know, that it basically, it became, it just was the natural flow.
08:32It was just like, almost his destiny to do that is what I felt, because it was his faith.
08:39There was no other option, and yet it's his sacrifice that allows everything to open.
08:47It's one of those things that, you know, you have to, it's, it's a lamp to the slaughter, but it's
08:53the most deserving person that should have survived.
08:57Does that make sense?
08:58Because you feel so bad, like, you know, what happens to Judith, eventually, let's just put it that way, is
09:05the, is a different healing, because you have empathy for coffee.
09:10You feel that coffee, if he had just gotten out, he could have run the world.
09:15He could have made some major change.
09:18And that's, you know, that's what, when I, when I, it just hits you as soon as I get back,
09:23you know?
09:24Now, can I have my quarter?
09:31Maybe you got the right idea, but you're calling the wrong people.
09:36I could call someone who might actually pick up, may help.
09:43Fine.
09:48But it wants you here, and it will fight to keep you, one way or another.
09:55Because you try to put a little bit of yourself in every one of your characters, I would think.
10:00Yeah.
10:00And to put yourself in his shoes at that moment just seems so heartbreaking, but how do you let yourself
10:07not be consumed by it, is what I'm sort of thinking.
10:12Because you have to feel some of what they're feeling.
10:15A hundred percent.
10:16A hundred percent.
10:16And first of all, like, I'm glad that it felt like that to you, genuinely.
10:25That was a hard day.
10:27I think it was a hard day on set because of what you're saying.
10:31Also, because some of the other deaths are active in a different way.
10:36Like, Judith, she's like, it's different.
10:39She's breaking out.
10:40She's trying to get somewhere.
10:41She's just actually got some vengeance with her hands, no matter what you think about it.
10:46And he, yeah, it was tough.
10:50It was a sad day on set.
10:52And I think that's a compliment to the story and the writing, and to some kind of thing that Coffey
10:57represents.
10:59I hear you where you say, wow, like, somebody like this in another position could, in their own small way,
11:07make the world a better place.
11:08If this guy was a principal at your kid's school, this school would be better.
11:13And it's a shame.
11:15It's a real shame and tragedy that that's not where he's at.
11:19He's in here and that we haven't found ways to find a space for somebody like Coffey.
11:24And that's what I'm hearing what you say.
11:26And I feel like that's amazing.
11:29I'm seeing things.
11:33Maybe I'm losing it.
11:37Did you get me out?
11:38I don't have that kind of power.
11:40I thought you were gonna help.
11:42Maybe I belong here.
11:47Do you ever think there's something wrong with this place?
11:52Because I know the reaction of the audience is, you know, you don't get to see it sometimes in this
11:56scenario.
11:57You know, so, you know, because I got the fear.
11:59He just wants to live.
12:00He wants to survive, you know, and that's why, you know, that.
12:05And he wants his friends to live, you know, like he.
12:10There's something in there about.
12:13Giving up your coins and still being like, I'm gonna go.
12:19I'm gonna go save pepper.
12:21I'm gonna go sacrifice my friends because that is that is what that is.
12:26That is what I've learned is important in life.
12:28That is what.
12:30Even if we never go out, this is the way to go out.
12:32So I think that's also what you're talking about.
12:35Right?
12:35Yeah.
12:36Yeah.
12:37Yeah.
12:38I'm sorry to be so verbose by it, but it's just.
12:40No, I appreciate it.
12:41You're right.
12:42I don't get this conversation.
12:43And I also don't pretend to be an expert on the answer.
12:46You know, I'm being genuine with you where like sometimes you just got to let your body do it.
12:53So when you're running down, even when I watched the myself running down the hallway, there's clearly something else that's
12:58like dislocated there.
13:00There's something else that's.
13:03But that is that is the material and then you just let your body do it and you go like,
13:07oh, wow.
13:07I don't know.
13:08Does that make any sense?
13:09No, it will be.
13:10It's instinct.
13:11It's yeah, it becomes primal.
13:13But man, I just got to say I'm.
13:15They wrap me up is that it's an accomplishment.
13:19It's this character is because of that arc.
13:22It really it really hit me more than any other character in this in the show that this show is
13:29the journey almost not so much of Pepper, but of coffee doing what he needed to do to make things
13:35better.
13:37Well, that's really lovely.
13:40And I appreciate that.
13:41And I'm genuinely glad I got to be a part of like sharing that story in that moment.
13:50And bad things happen in a place.
13:54Because the place is evil.
13:59Over so many bad things down there, it invited evil in.
14:06That's right.
14:07I'm fucking god.
14:08But as an animal.
14:09In kinda dream.
14:12I've been so sorry.
14:13I'm very bad.
14:14không và không ba như this.
14:15I hope she mãi knock as if she didn't win one nh verschNAbug.
14:15All of this stuff, she's querer tote.
14:15Oh, yeah, she'sascular.
14:15Do but whether their work's going in, it's fine.
14:15I think we're going to be that amazing.
14:16It's fine.
14:16That's it.
14:16I hope she's been FUCKING anys
14:16That's true.
14:17Amen.
