00:00Back here in the U.S., a dozen people were killed in a skydiving plane crash in Missouri.
00:06Authorities say the crash happened just minutes after taking off from Butler Memorial Airport,
00:10about 65 miles south of Kansas City.

00:19It was taking people up for a day of skydiving, a popular activity in the area.

00:33Tonight, a city official says it appears the pilot may have been trying to make an emergency.

01:04At around 11.30 this morning, initial 911 calls reported the plane had crashed and burst into flames
01:10at Butler Memorial Airport, about an hour south of Kansas City.

01:54The plane was operated for Skydive Kansas City.
01:56Tonight, the Skydiving Center writing in a statement,
01:59our deepest sympathies are with the families, friends, and loved ones of all who were lost.

02:08We're still trying to identify family and make notifications.
02:12Butler's Airport is small.
02:14Skydiving is popular in the area.
02:16The skydiving season in Missouri usually begins in the spring and lasts until October.
02:21Oh my God, these are the victims, family members.
02:25They are heartbroken, yes.
02:28Been gathering nearby the airport, waiting for information from the sheriff.
02:32There's nothing we really can say to make it better.
02:34We just pray for them.
02:36All, all 12 are killed, okay.
02:38And their loved ones and their friends and their family and hope that they can recover.

02:55The FAA and NTSB say they'll be investigating to figure out what happened on takeoff.
