Ryder takes Steve Stevenson, who has saved Red's life, to his ranch and gives him a job. Red's aunt, the Duchess, knew Steve's father, who supposedly committed suicide after losing his ranch betting on a prizefight. Steve refuses to believe that his father took his own life and the Duchess backs him up. On the way to town, Red, Steve, ranch hand Buckshot Blodgett and Red's young Indian pal, Little Beaver, break up an attempted stagecoach robbery. Mark Palmer, the gambler who caused the death of Steve's father, is a passenger.

02:10Is he dead?
02:12I'm afraid he is.
02:13You kill him?
02:14Yes.
02:15I was aiming at his rifle, but my horse shot just as I pulled the trigger.
02:19In that case, I'll take this.
02:21We don't hanker much for killings in this basin.
02:23Well, just a minute.
02:24Save your breath. The sheriff will listen to you.
02:26Mister, you don't understand.
02:28Understand what?
02:29I shot at this man to save your life.
02:31My life?
02:32What do you mean?
02:33He had a beat on you down on the road. He was aiming to kill you.
02:38Know him?
02:40Yeah, well enough to have fired him off my ranch yesterday for stealing money out of the bunkhouse.
02:44As a matter of fact, he's the reason I was riding so hard for home just now.
02:47What do you mean?
02:48Well, I heard in town that he was liquored up and trying to cut some fences on my ranch.
02:52I was going out to post guards.
02:54It won't give you any trouble now.
02:56No, thanks to you.
02:58Mr. I owe you a lot for saving my neck just now.
03:01My name is Ryder.
03:02Red Ryder.
03:04My aunt and I own Painted Valley.
03:06It's a spread about five miles down the road here.
03:08I'm Steve Stevenson.
03:09I was riding in from Indian Gap.
03:11Just broken up camp here when I spotted this buzzard.
03:13Not a second too soon, either.
03:16What brought you over this way?
03:18Lack of a job, mostly.
03:19I was hoping to find one in this basin.
03:22Well, you got one now.
03:23His job's still open.
03:25It's yours if you want it.
03:26Want it?
03:27Mister, you got yourself a hand.
03:28Good.
03:29Let's ride on in to Painted Valley.
03:30I'll tell one of the boys to go in town and tell the sheriff about him.
03:33We'll send a wagon out for him.
03:38And if Steve hadn't been Johnny on the spot right then,
03:41I'd probably be laying out on that road someplace with a bullet in my back.
03:45Well, let's do the pot shots, Red.
03:48I know that varmint was no good the minute I laid eyes on him.
03:52You know, I remember Wild Bill Hickok used to tell me.
03:55Wild Bill Hickok probably used to tell you to shut up.
03:59He never did.
04:00Never did what?
04:01Tell me to shut up.
04:02Well, I am.
04:03You're what?
04:03Telling you to shut up.
04:05Now, listen.
04:08Yes, ma'am.
04:11Young caller, did I understand Red to say that you was from Indian Gap?
04:15That's right, ma'am.
04:16Funny thing.
04:16I used to know a man from Indian Gap named Stevenson.
04:19Miles Stevenson.
04:20Any relation?
04:22He was my father.
04:24Was?
04:25Yes.
04:26Dad was murdered about two months ago.
04:28Murdered?
04:28I'm sorry to hear that.
04:30Did they catch the killer?
04:32Catch the killer?
04:34No.
04:34As a matter of fact, it was made to look like suicide.
04:37They found Dad in the living room of our ranch house with his rifle next to him on the floor.
04:42He was cleaning rod and rag on the table.
04:45Sheriff just took it for granted that Dad had killed himself in a fit of depression while cleaning his gun.
04:50What makes you so sure he didn't?
04:51He cleaned that same gun the day before and hadn't fired it.
04:55Yeah, that is peculiar.
04:57You know, I've got an idea, though, you're not telling us the whole story.
05:01That you have another suspicion.
05:03Did your dad have any enemies?
05:05Anybody who'd like to see him out of the way for any reason?
05:08I was getting to that.
05:10If you knew Dad, you knew that he was quite a gambler.
05:13He sure was.
05:14He'd bet on anything.
05:15Well, that's what started it.
05:17I was supposed to go back to college in a couple of weeks and finish my last year and get
05:20my degree.
05:22This particular morning, Dad seemed depressed.
05:26He was looking over his books as I came in from the barn.
05:29What's troubling you, Dad?
05:31Dad, sit down, son.
05:34I want to talk to you.
05:36What is it?
05:37What's wrong?
05:38I'd rather cut off my right arm than tell you this, Stevie.
05:42But I can't afford to send you back to school this fall.
05:45But, Dad, I...
05:46Let me finish, son.
05:49As you know, we've had a pretty hard year.
05:52And I had to mortgage this place to the hilt.
05:55And I have no additional source of money at all.
05:59Well, that's not so bad.
06:00I've had about all the education I could absorb anyway.
06:03Besides, I'd just soon stay here and help out.
06:07Be one less hand to pay.
06:08Thanks, son.
06:09But I know you're not saying what's in your heart.
06:12You're just as disappointed as I am.
06:15Sure, I was disappointed, but I didn't want Dad to know about it.
06:18So for the next few days, I did my best to cheer him up.
06:21Just as I thought he'd reconcile himself to the fact that I was staying,
06:25I rode up to the ranch house and saw a strange horse at the hitch rack.
06:30I dismounted, went into the house to see who our visitor was.
06:33Hello, Dad.
06:37I see you, my boy.
06:38I'm glad you got home before Mr. Palmer left.
06:40This is my son.
06:42Mighty proud to make your acquaintance.
06:43Pleased to meet you, sir.
06:45Well, I guess everything's satisfactory, Mr. Stevenson, so I'll be on my way.
06:48Right.
06:49Everything is fine.
06:50I'll see you in town tomorrow.
06:52Good.
06:52See you later.
06:58Good.
07:03Good.
07:03There is a prize fight tomorrow.
07:05When he got in town, he heard that our foreman, Mike Edwards, is the local undefeated champion.
07:09What's that got to do with us?
07:11Well, he and I have arranged a prize fight between Mike and a boxer that he manages who will be
07:16in town tomorrow.
07:18Where do we fit into this?
07:19Let me finish.
07:20Since the fight was announced in town yesterday, the folks have all gone a long while betting on Mike.
07:26Dad?
07:27Who's covering those bets?
07:29Who else but Charlie Dorgan?
07:31Yeah, he owns that gambling palace.
07:33Yeah?
07:34I've heard he's never run a straight game in his life.
07:36Well, now, this is going to be straight all right.
07:38Mr. Palmer's assured me of that.
07:39Oh, sure.
07:40It's all right if we win.
07:41What if we lose?
07:43Don't worry, son.
07:44We won't lose.
07:46We did lose, and pretty badly.
07:49Then what happened?
07:50For the first time in his life, Dad felt he'd been cheated.
07:54We had 30 days to get off the ranch.
07:56Dad decided to do some investigating.
07:59Did he find anything?
08:00He must have.
08:01He never got a chance to tell anybody.
08:04Next morning, he was discovered dead.
08:06By whom?
08:07Through an odd coincidence, Mr. Palmer had come over to say goodbye.
08:11He was the one that found Dad.
08:13The sheriff just concluded it was suicide?
08:15Right.
08:16He even thought up a motive.
08:18Well, that was handy.
08:19What was the motive?
08:20He figured Dad was ashamed because all the neighbors had lost so much betting on a fight
08:24that he'd arranged.
08:25Why Miles Stevenson had too much guts to take the easy way out.
08:30Thanks, ma'am.
08:32It's nice to hear someone talk that way about Dad.
08:35But if I ever run across Mark Palmer, I'll gun him down so fast.
08:38Wait a minute now, Steve.
08:39You've already got one notch on your gun today.
08:42Say, speaking of that, I guess we ought to ride in town and see the sheriff.
08:45He'd probably like a first-hand account of what went on out there this morning.
08:48Say, that's a good idea, Red.
08:50Say, do you mind if a little beaver and me take along?
08:53Don't... I am plum out of liquid.
08:55Not a bit. Come on.
08:56We'll see you later, Dutchess.
08:58Okay.
09:25Hey, I wonder what that shooting is.
09:27Let's ride over and see.
09:28You wait here with a little beaver.
09:29Buck's going to now go find out.
09:54Let's freeze it up, Red.
09:55Let's ride over and see.
10:25Let's ride over and see.
10:55Let's ride over and see.
11:40Ernie!
11:41Ernie!
11:47Anybody hurt in there, Ernie?
11:48I'm just going to check, Red.
11:51Is everybody all right in there?
11:52Just fine, driver.
11:54A little shaken up, though.
11:56Can we get out and stretch our legs for a minute?
11:58Oh, sure, sure.
12:07I picked up a little time on my run this morning, Red, of those umbras on my tail.
12:12Well, that was a mighty close call.
12:13Are you gentlemen our benefactors?
12:16Well, we...
12:17Well, I don't know what that word means, but if it means that we saved your skins, well, I reckon
12:22we're guilty.
12:24Buckskin, behave yourself.
12:26In that case, may I thank you for myself and my fellow passengers.
12:29Yeah, me too, Red.
12:31I'm kind of pale though today, about $5,000 in gold.
12:35$5,000?
12:36Say, do you mind if I can just run my fingers through that?
12:39Oh, no, not with the holes you got in those gloves.
12:43You better get rolling, Ernie.
12:45We'll probably end the time as soon as Little Beaver gets here.
12:47Right, Red, and thanks again.
12:49Load up, everybody.
13:00Out of time.
13:01Shoot!
13:11Hey, there they come now.
13:19You been all right, Red Ryder?
13:21Well, he looks all right, don't he?
13:23That's more than I can say for the two jaspers you dropped back there.
13:25They never knew what hit him.
13:27Well, in that case, I reckon the sheriff will have to fetch out two wagons to pick them up.
13:32Buckskin, sometimes you can be funny as a crutch.
13:34Well, much obliged, Red.
13:39Come on, let's get ridin'.
13:40I don't want that coach to get too far ahead of us.
13:56Pretty close there, Red.
13:57Yeah, it was, Ernie.
13:59We'll report this to the sheriff for you.
14:01We're going on over there anyway.
14:03All right, Red, and thanks again.
14:05Well, come on, let's go.
14:06Hey, just a second, Red.
14:07Let's wait for Steve.
14:09Where did he go?
14:10I don't know.
14:11I reckon he spotted that pretty gal there in the coach.
14:15All right, folks.
14:18Hello, Palmer.
14:19This is a pleasant surprise.
14:21Well, Stevenson, what are you doing in this town?
14:24Running away from your father's reputation?
14:26Why, you dirty...
14:27Get out of my sight and stop molesting me or I'm going to have you arrested.
14:31You don't press me off that easy.
14:34Get out of the way, young lady.
14:35I'm going to have to give this coward a thrashing.
14:38Just a minute, mister.
14:40It appears to me that the coward's on the wrong end of this thrashing.
14:43Just who asked you for your opinion?
14:45Nobody.
14:48There's your cane.
14:49Now, be on your way.
14:51Just a minute.
14:52I was merely defending myself.
14:54He went for his gun.
14:55No, he didn't.
14:56I know he didn't.
14:57I was watching, too.
14:59Now, if you don't want any more trouble, get going.
15:05Now, just what was that all about?
15:07That was Mark Palmer.
15:08I guess I lost my head.
15:10Well, you almost got it knocked off at any rate.
15:12You don't understand, Red.
15:14That was Mark Palmer, the fight promoter.
15:15Hold it, Steve.
15:16We'll talk about that in private.
15:18Right now, I'd like to thank this young lady, miss.
15:21Evans.
15:22Sue Evans.
15:23I'd like to thank you, too, Miss Evans.
15:25I'm Steve Stevenson.
15:27This is Red Ryder.
15:28Pleased to meet you both.
15:30You going to be in town long?
15:31Not too long.
15:32I've got a job here.
15:34Well, Steve, we better get on over to the sheriff's office.
15:37If you'll excuse us, miss.
15:39By the way, Miss Evans, where are you going to be working?
15:42I was hoping you wouldn't ask me that.
15:44I'll be at the Silver Dollar Saloon.
15:46I'll be seeing you around.
15:59It sounds very interesting.
16:03Excuse me, Palmer.
16:04Come in.
16:09Are you Bart Osborne?
16:11Yes, miss, I am.
16:12Is there something I can do for you?
16:14I'm Sue Evans.
16:15I received your letter, and I'm reporting for work.
16:17Oh, fine.
16:18Charlie certainly wasn't exaggerating when he described you.
16:21Oh, by the way, this is Mr. Palmer, Miss Evans.
16:24We've met.
16:25This is the girl I was talking about.
16:28What a charming coincidence.
16:30I don't find it very charming, Mr. Palmer.
16:32If you want my opinion, I...
16:33Now, just a minute, Miss Evans.
16:34Mr. Palmer happens to be a friend of mine.
16:36I'll have to ask you to show him the proper respect.
16:39Now, if you'll wait outside, I'll see you in a few minutes.
16:45Well, I don't think we'll have any trouble with her.
16:49Who's this Charlie?
16:50What's he got to do with her?
16:52Well, that's an interesting story.
16:54But first, let's get our business out of the way.
16:57I'm not so sure now.
16:58I want to go through with this deal.
17:00Why not?
17:00What's wrong?
17:01Plenty.
17:02You led me to believe that you run this basin.
17:04But before I even get to town, a bunch of cutthroats try to hold up the stage I'm in,
17:08and I almost get my head blown off.
17:09I'm sorry, Palmer, but how did I know you were on that stage?
17:12You must have ways of stopping young hotheads like Stevenson from threatening people in town.
17:17That could have been a bad situation.
17:20I don't know the boy you're talking about, but the redhead I know well.
17:23He's sort of a local hero.
17:27Say, that gives me an idea.
17:29Are you sure your boy can't lose the fight?
17:32We've been all over the West, and he hasn't been beaten yet.
17:35But he's won 35 straight fights.
17:38He must be pretty good.
17:40Just fair.
17:42But I have ways of making sure that he wins.
17:46What's this idea of yours?
17:47Well, Ryder is the best fighter in this basin.
17:50And if I can get a few of the local citizens interested,
17:53I might be able to force him to fight your man as representative of the town.
17:57Then when Bull beats him and you collect your bets from his friends,
18:03they won't be his friends any longer, eh?
18:19Well, hip boost to hop, Neil.
18:21Neil, that's his third straight day, but you'll beat me.
18:25How do you do it?
18:26You read him your mind, Buckskin.
18:29No fooling?
18:30Of course he's fooling you, Idget.
18:32You ain't got no mind for him to read.
18:35Well, I...
18:36Listen, you old saddlebag.
18:38Wild Bill Hickok said that I had a mind of a...
18:42There's so much door.
18:43Let me get him it.
18:46Hello, little Beaver.
18:47You at home?
18:48Yes.
18:53Oh, hi.
18:54Is that a way?
18:54Oh, Sam, Jack, yeah.
18:56What brings you boys out this time of night?
18:58Well, uh...
18:59The boys and me wanted to have a little talk with you.
19:01Why, is there anything wrong?
19:03No, nothing that I know of.
19:05But we want to make sure that nothing does go wrong.
19:08What's on your mind?
19:10Well, I don't know whether you heard it or not.
19:12There's a prizefighter coming to town.
19:14Yeah, I was just reading about it in the news bulletin.
19:17Well, then you know all the details.
19:19We've been appointed a committee to get the best fighter in the basin
19:23to represent the town against this bull mason.
19:25So, naturally, you've come to read.
19:27That's right.
19:29And you've been chosen by the committee to do it.
19:32I knew Palmer was up to something when I saw him in town.
19:34Well, what do you say, Red?
19:36Are you going to do it?
19:38This fellow's beating everybody around the country.
19:40He'd be quite a feather in our cap if the representative of our town beat him.
19:44That's right, Red.
19:45And besides, everybody's willing to bet their shirts that you will do it.
19:50I hate to say this, but I'm going to turn you down.
19:52What?
19:53Why?
19:54Well, I don't know anything about prizefighting.
19:56I'm a rough-and-tumble sort of a scrapper.
19:59I get in the ring with this old boy, and everybody's bet heavy on me, and I lose.
20:04Well, I'll feel pretty bad about it.
20:07Red, if you knew somebody that had boxed before,
20:09do you think you could train and manage him so he could beat Mason?
20:12Well, I guess I could, but there's nobody in the basin with ring experience.
20:15Yes, there is.
20:16Who?
20:16Me.
20:17I was unofficial school champion for three years.
20:20Besides, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to beat the man
20:22who was partly responsible for Dad's death.
20:25Now, there's a good offer, Red.
20:27And, you know, besides, you can't turn Steve down.
20:30That's right.
20:34It's all right by the committee.
20:35What do you say, Red?
20:36Will you do it?
20:38Yeah, if you want to crack at him, I'll sure try with you.
20:41The committee says okay.
20:42I guess I don't have any choice.
20:45Thank you, Lord, Red.
20:54Good morning.
20:56Have you had breakfast yet?
20:57I never eat before 10.
20:59Have you heard the news?
21:00You mean about Ryder refusing to fight?
21:02I heard that last night.
21:04Well, what does it mean?
21:06It means that Ryder's smart.
21:07He won't stick his neck out.
21:09But it makes very little difference.
21:11Why is that?
21:13Who ever heard of the Stevenson kid before Ryder brought him to town?
21:17When he gets beaten, it'll be the same as if Ryder was in the ring.
21:20The only thing that worries me is I'm sure the betting won't be as heavy as I figured.
21:23Don't worry about the betting.
21:25When Bull arrives in town this afternoon, we have a routine that'll have the bettors knocking each other down to
21:30put their money up.
21:31I hope so.
21:33I can't wait till after the fight to see Ryder's face.
21:56Get it hard.
22:27Well, Red, what do you think?
22:28I think Steve's in real good shape.
22:31I don't see any reason why he should have trouble handling this tomorrow morning.
22:40Hey, what's your hurry?
22:47Well, Red, I thought maybe you wanted to take a look at that other fighter when he arrived.
22:51He's due on the next stage in about a half hour.
22:55Hey, that could be interesting.
22:56Let's ride into town.
22:57You coming with us, Duchess?
22:59Sure, Red.
23:00I'll be with you in a minute.
23:01Well, here, paint your hoop shirt.
23:03Ain't that just like a woman?
23:04Ready or not, she's never ready.
23:09I didn't mean you, ma'am.
23:11I didn't mean you.
23:15I did, too, mean her.
23:17Why, is that lazy woman?
23:18Is that right now?
23:19Look at, look at, Beaver.
23:20Remember how we stood around when she was going to...
23:27The stage ought to be here any minute now.
23:29Yeah, it's better to be a little late, don't it?
23:36Well, I'll be there.
23:37Hey, uh, Beaver.
23:40Run over to the store and fetch me some black cream.
23:42You bet you're lucky.
23:50Here's the stage now.
23:52He ought to be on it.
24:20See here, you.
24:22You insulted my wife.
24:23Are you going to apologize or do I have to hit you?
24:25Go away.
24:27You bother me.
24:28Well, that's the way you feel about it.
24:29See if this bothers you.
24:32Take it easy, Paul.
24:33Save your fighting for the ring.
24:38See, he's a pretty customer, ain't he?
24:42Yeah, come on, then.
24:53You wait here.
24:54I won't be gone too long.
24:59There's no tussle with that big car.
25:02There's no tussle.
25:19Arnie!
25:38I don't mean to hold you up, Arnie. I just want to talk to your passenger.
25:40Well, go ahead.
25:42What do you want with us?
25:43I got a message for you.
25:45Who's from?
25:46The boss. He wasn't very pleased with your performance in town.
25:49A boss? I don't know what you mean.
25:52Sure you do. Palmer wanted me to tell you to do better next time. That punch looked phony.
25:56It wasn't my fault. Mason went back too soon. I almost missed him.
26:00That's none of my business. I've told you what I supposed to do.
26:03Well, you tell Palmer if he isn't happy, he can get another boy.
26:06Driver!
26:06Yeah? Let's get going.
26:08All right.
26:09There he is.
26:24Call you.
26:26What do you got?
26:28It's no good. Full house.
26:36Well, that little show of yours seems to be paying off.
26:39I don't think there'll be more than half a dozen people that won't have a bet on young Stephenson.
26:43I told you.
26:45Never fails.
26:46Once they see the little boy knock Bull down, they're all sure that he can't win.
26:50I haven't lost yet, have I, boss?
26:52Nope.
26:53You never will lose if you keep playing ball with me.
26:56When's your friend Sampson going to arrive?
26:58Sometime. Sometime early tomorrow.
27:00Will that give him enough time?
27:01He won't need time for this job.
27:03It'll be like shooting fish in a barrel.
27:05Come on.
27:34Well, this is a surprise.
27:37Duchess, this is Sue Evans, my aunt, the Duchess.
27:39Hello, Duchess. Howdy, Sue.
27:41What brings you clear out here?
27:42I've come out to warn you.
27:44I think Osborne and Palmer are up to something.
27:47Well, what do you mean?
27:48Well, I seem awfully sure that Mason's going to win.
27:51Too sure.
27:52What do you think they're planning?
27:53Well, I don't know, but I don't think Steve ought to go through with it.
27:57I can't back out now.
27:59If I don't show up tomorrow, Mason will win by default.
28:02All those people that bet on me will lose all their money.
28:04He's right, Sue.
28:06Of course, that doesn't mean that we can't be on the lookout for some sort of a trick.
28:10Good.
28:11Now I'd better head back to town before they miss me.
28:13I'll ride in with you.
28:14No, please don't.
28:16If Bart Osborne even suspects that I'm out here...
28:17At least I can walk out with you.
28:19All right.
28:20Goodbye.
28:21Bye.
28:25What do you think?
28:26About what?
28:27About that girl.
28:28You think she's on the level?
28:30Well, after all, she does work in the saloon, you know.
28:32Why, Red Ryder, I always thought you was a pretty good judge of character.
28:37Well, now, if you should ask my opinion...
28:39I wouldn't ask you anything.
28:40But I'll tell you, young fella, that there is a nice gal.
28:44And I'm sure that if she's working in the saloon, there's a pretty good reason for it.
28:49You still won't tell me why you can't quit that job?
28:52I wish I could, Steve.
28:53Maybe someday.
28:55Okay.
29:12I sure can't figure her out.
29:13Yeah, I know what you mean.
29:14But right now, we've got a little tougher job.
29:16You know, the information she brought out here wasn't news to me.
29:20Well, shotguns to shenanigans, Red.
29:22What do you mean?
29:23Well, that one punch knockdown when the stage came in didn't look right to me, so I decided to investigate
29:27a little.
29:28That being why you left this, Red Ryder?
29:30Yeah, that's right.
29:31I followed the coach out of town when I was sure that I wasn't being followed.
29:34I stopped the stage and had a talk with the passengers.
29:37Well, out with it, Red.
29:38What did you find out?
29:40They're on the payroll of Mark Palmer, and that fight was staged just as I thought it was.
29:44Well, why, Red?
29:45What did they expect to accomplish?
29:46They're so sure they're going to win the fight, they want to cover every bet on you they can get.
29:50Why, then, dirty, low-head...
29:52Hold on now, buckskin.
29:54Save your breath.
29:55I've got work for you to do.
29:57Right now, Red?
29:57Yeah, right now.
29:59I want you to ride into town.
30:00Keep your eyes and ears open.
30:01Notice anything unusual that goes on in or around the saloon.
30:05Well, what's that, Red?
30:06Then ride back here and let me know what you found out.
30:10I'll do it, Red.
30:11Okay.
30:16I'll do it, Red.
30:46Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
30:50I'll do it, Red.
30:54Goodbye.
30:58THE END
31:27THE END
32:01THE END
32:26So, as far as I could see, there was nothing unusual happening in town.
32:30But you saw Palmer and Osborne going in and out of the office several times, huh?
32:34Yeah, that's right.
32:35But neither one of them seemed to be worried about the fight tomorrow.
32:38What about Mason? Did you see him?
32:40No, I didn't.
32:41But one of the boys was telling me that he's doing some mighty heavy training.
32:45Some mighty heavy lifting.
32:46What kind of lifting?
32:47Well, he's lifting the bottle to the glass and then the glass to his mouth.
32:52See, he's trading on whiskey.
32:54Yeah, I know, but that's one of the things that worries me.
32:57Mason's in such bad shape, and yet Palmer and Osborne are so sure of winning that fight.
33:01What's the next move, Red?
33:03Well, I don't know.
33:05You go on back in town tomorrow, Buckskin, and keep on loading around.
33:08You may stumble onto something yesterday that'll give us an idea what they got up their sleeves.
33:12Right, Dad.
33:13Well, I think we ought to all turn in.
33:16We've got a big day ahead of us tomorrow.
33:18Yes, and I'm tireder than a monkey and a grapevine.
33:22Boy, that bed sure will feel good to meet night.
33:25I'm sure it is.
33:30Debbie, you stay out here and keep your eyes open.
33:38The rest of you boys get yourselves a drink.
33:41I've got business with Osborne.
34:12I've got business with Osborne.
34:13Not good enough.
34:16Come in.
34:23You sent word you wanted to see me?
34:25Yes, I have a proposition for you.
34:28This is Mr. Palmer.
34:29He handles Bull Mason.
34:36We almost met the other day.
34:38What do you mean almost?
34:40Well, I was a passenger on that stagecoach you tried to hold up.
34:43Then maybe you can tell me who the hombre was that butted in.
34:46He got two of my boys.
34:47It was Red Ryder.
34:49He and that bearded monkey that travels with him heard the shooting and stepped in.
34:52But you won't have to worry about him stepping in this time.
34:55You're going to be occupied.
34:57Let's quit beating around the bush.
34:59You said you had a proposition.
35:01What is it?
35:02All right, I'll tell you quickly.
35:04The 5,000 and gold you were after on the stage is still in town.
35:07We want to give you another crack at it.
35:10Of course, it'll be split three ways.
35:12Why should I split with anyone?
35:14Because we know where it is and the easiest way to get it.
35:17Now, will you play ball or should we get somebody else?
35:20Don't rush him, Bart.
35:22Give him time to think it over.
35:24I won't need time.
35:26Just tell me what your plans are.
35:28They sound all right to me.
35:29We'll have a deal.
35:53Well, no sign of buckskin.
35:55I knew you couldn't trust him with anything important.
35:57Oh, don't condemn him yet, Duchess.
35:59He'll probably meet us at the corral.
36:04I wonder how much he heard.
36:08He's coming around now.
36:12All right, please.
36:13Start talking.
36:18How did I get in here?
36:23Where am I?
36:24Who am I?
36:26You know where you are.
36:27How much did you hear out there?
36:29Well, listen, you fellas.
36:32It's just like I told you.
36:34I don't know nothing.
36:36I never saw you before.
36:39I don't know how I got in here or who I am.
36:44Never mind that dummy business.
36:46You going to start talking or do I have to beat it out of you?
36:48Hold it, Samson.
36:50I don't think you can make him talk.
36:53Because he's right.
36:55He doesn't know who he is.
36:56What do you mean?
36:58Well, I've seen exactly the same thing before.
37:00That blow on the head's giving him amnesia.
37:03How do you know?
37:04You're no doctor.
37:05Well, you don't have to be to recognize the symptoms.
37:08We don't have to worry about him talking.
37:10Well, what do we do with him?
37:12Well, let him go.
37:13If he doesn't show up, someone might get suspicious.
37:16Come on, let's get down to the corral.
37:36Here he comes!
37:55Don't forget, Steve.
37:57Take it easy the first few rounds.
37:58He's in such bad condition that if we wait,
38:01he'll tire himself out, then we can make our move.
38:03Right, Red.
38:08I'm kind of worried about Buckskin.
38:10Hey, little Beaver, run into town, will you,
38:12and see if you can find him?
38:13You betcha.
38:14I'm kind of worried about Buckskin.
38:30Buckskin!
38:33Who, me?
38:34Yes, you.
38:35Why aren't you at the corral?
38:38Uh, what corral?
38:40I don't know what you're talking about.
38:42Have you seen Red?
38:45Red who?
38:47What's the matter with you?
38:53Don't you know who I am?
38:56Oh, worse than that, ma'am.
38:57I don't even know who I am.
39:00All I know, I've got an awful headache.
39:03Buckskin!
39:04They're dry than one of them, you right away.
39:07Who, who is he?
39:09This is little Beaver.
39:12Something's wrong with him.
39:13He doesn't know me, and now he doesn't even know you.
39:17That's him, funny.
39:18We take him here to Red Riders.
39:20He fix them.
39:22Well, where, where are we going?
39:34Get in the right.
39:39Get in the right.
39:41Jesus, boy.
40:14Come on, boy.
40:15Keep him away.
40:17Come on.
40:25All right, come on.
40:26Cross the right.
40:36Hey, Sheriff, watch that.
40:38There's a fall, Red.
40:50How was that, Red?
40:51Good.
40:52Just keep away from it.
41:04Come on, boy.
41:14Left out.
41:14Come on, Steve.
41:15Left out.
41:16Come on, folks.
41:17Cross.
41:34Hey, come on, Sheriff.
41:35Watch the gun.
41:40Get that left out there.
41:42Come on.
41:42Cross him at that right.
41:45Come on.
41:46Come on.
41:58One, two.
42:00One, two.
42:03Come on.
42:07Come on.
42:07Cross the right.
42:08Cross the right, Steve.
42:17Come on.
42:18Come on.
42:19Get moving there.
42:23Come on.
42:45I can't take much more of that.
42:47I got to finish him off now.
42:49Save your win.
42:50Here, take this.
42:52There's one way to make him lose his head.
42:55Listen.
43:11Langan.
43:16Something's wrong with Buckske.
43:17He's not using Emory.
43:19What do you mean?
43:22Oh, you must be that rider fella that these two are talking about.
43:28Come on, buckskin, stop fooling around.
43:31Oh, fisticuffs.
43:36Oh, did you see that?
43:43I felt that fur over here.
44:09Come on.
44:12Why are you going to screw up and fight?
44:14I will when I'm ready.
44:16You're just as yellow as your rocking father.
44:18Come on.
44:24One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
44:47Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold it down, hold it down.
44:51I'd like to inspect the hands of Bull Mason.
44:53What for, redhead?
44:54You won't find any excuse in him.
44:56Well, I don't believe this boy was just knocked out with nothing.
45:00Sheriff!
45:00Sheriff!
45:02The stage office was just robbed.
45:05They headed east.
45:08Out of town.
45:12The stage office was just robbed.
45:14That's former Poshy.
45:15We might be able to head him up if we take Eagle Pass.
45:18You take care of Steve.
45:19I'll see you back at Painted Valley.
45:21All right, red.
45:46There they are.
45:47Let's cut them off.
45:51The stage office was just by the name of Winnie Nelå¹².
45:51On the street.
46:04You can see that deep in the door.
46:05It's being fully recognized by the name of Winnie Nelof.
46:09That's too far,fendim.
46:10Come back us.
46:10Let's go back into spite.
46:17Which madeple of Winnie Nelof.

53:59So that's what gave Steve that bruise
54:02Sheriff, grab Osborne Palmer
54:03I'll take care of this one
54:25Oh, come on
54:28I'll take care of this one
54:29Come on
54:31Come on
54:32Come on
54:38Come on
54:40Come on
54:41Come on
54:42Come on
54:46Come on
55:04Nice work, Red
55:06How's he?
55:07He's all right
55:08Just knocked out for that piece of lead pipe
55:13This is all your fault
55:14You and that fighter are yours
55:15Shut up
55:16They can't do anything to us
55:17This was just a barroom brawl
55:20There aren't any rules governing that type of fight
55:22Oh, there are not
55:23We'll see about that after the sheriff locks you up in a cell
55:27On what charge?
55:28Don't let them go red or crook
55:30What do you mean, Buckskin?
55:32Well, I don't know how I got in here
55:34But I heard these two hombres plan them with that barman that tried to hold up the stagecoach
55:40What were they planning?
55:41Well, this afternoon while Steve was fighting this fellow Mason
55:44They figured on holding up the stagecoach
55:47And then splitting the money three ways
55:49This afternoon, what?
55:51That was yesterday, Buckskin
55:53And the stagecoach
55:54And the stagecoach was held up
55:55Yesterday?
55:56There's your charge, Sheriff
55:58Conspiracy to rob the stagecoach
56:00Well, whoa
56:01Wait a minute
56:03I might have lost last night
56:06But I'll be diddly-dad-burned if I know what's become of this morning
56:10At your age, Buckskin, you'll never miss him
56:13No, I suppose I'll
56:15Now, just a minute now
56:18You had one, Castle
56:20Do you want another?
56:38How'd everything go at the sheriff's office, Red?
56:41Did they crack?
56:41Wide open
56:42First Osborne, then Palmer
56:44I had a private conversation with Palmer
56:46He admitted killing Dad
56:47I kind of figured that one out for myself
56:49Knowing your dad like I did
56:52While you boys were in town
56:53Me and Sue had a private little talk, too
56:55I told her that's just why I had to work for Bart Osborne
56:58Oh, we'd figured that one out for ourselves
57:00Your brother Charlie owed Osborne a big gambling debt
57:03That's right
57:04But now Charlie has a respectable job
57:07They'd never let him relax with that gambling debt hanging over him
57:10So I offered to pay it for him
57:12Well, now that you're not working for Osborne any longer
57:16I'd kind of like to offer you a job
57:18I, uh...
57:20Excuse me
57:24Carry you
57:25Of course I will, darling
57:27See, congratulations
57:29That's wonderful
57:29Thanks, Red
57:30I hope that's just why
57:32Well, let me shake your little hand
57:34You'd be a mighty glad, too, Steve
57:36All right, you three
57:37Let these kids alone
57:38You ride into town with Sue
57:40You can help her with her packing
57:41Meantime, we got a lot of chores to do
57:50Be back here for supper, you two
57:52We got a lot of celebrating to do
57:54We sure will, Duncan
58:01She's got herself a fine boy there
58:03He's got himself a grand girl
58:05Oh, see, Red, that reminds me
58:08You know that magnesia I had?
58:09That wasn't very satisfying
58:10You mean amnesia, Buckskin
58:13Well, bullfrogs are told still
58:15I, I don't, I don't care what you call it
58:17But I know any way I had it
58:19And I wasn't very happy
58:19Oh, why not?
58:21Well, because I don't seem to remember
58:23A diddly-dad burn thing that I done
58:26Well, I do
58:27Oh, do you?
58:28I recall that when you had amnesia
58:31You showed me a lot more respect
58:32As a matter of fact
58:36I'm seriously thinking
58:38Of making sure that you get amnesia again
58:42Now, wait a minute, I'll touch it
58:43You wouldn't hit a little Indian boy, would you now?
58:45Would you?
58:46Oh, boy
58:46Oh, boy
