Islamic scholars have a responsibility to ensure that the latest technologies are guided by wisdom and moral values, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said algorithms that are not grounded in ethical principles could silently shape young minds, putting moral values at risk.

00:09In Islamic history, knowledge has never been separated from social responsibility.
00:17Through knowledge, we build madrasa, shape systems of governance, advance trade and produce great civilizations.
00:32That is why knowledge must not remain confined to seminars, journals and academic spaces alone.
00:41Knowledge must come down to guide society, assist policy makers and answer the questions of the Ummah with wisdom and
00:55intellectual courage.
00:57This is important because society today seeks guidance in many new spaces.
01:05From social media and digital platform to artificial intelligence and public policy debates in this environment, knowledge must not only
01:21explain but also guide.
01:24Furthermore, we now live in an abundance of information but often suffer from a poverty of wisdom.
01:38Data is increasing yet wisdom is becoming more distant.
01:44This is where scholars as today play a vital role to turn information into understanding.
01:56Understanding into wisdom and wisdom into action.
02:01Ladies and gentlemen, at the same time, differences of opinion are part of the vastness of knowledge but they must
02:12be guided by adab al-ihtilaf.
02:18To differ without hostility.
02:23To argue without belating and seek common ground without betraying especially the principles.
02:35Therefore, intellectual consensus does not mean making all views uniform.
02:43This is not our purpose, not making all views uniform.
02:49It means building a shared value framework in facing common challenges.
02:58One of the greatest challenges today is technology.
03:02Artificial intelligence or AI is no longer an issue of the future.
03:09It is already shaping education, the economy, security, communications, governance and even the way society seeks answers about religion and
03:22life.
03:24The question today is not whether we should accept or reject technology.
03:29The bigger question is how technology should be guided.
03:34My greatest concern is that technology without values can become a tool of manipulations.
03:45Data without ethics can violate human dignity.
03:51Algorithms without wisdom can silently shape the minds of society.
03:57This is where I believe Naqashid Sharia plays its role as an ethical compass for progress.
04:10The technological advancement and system efficiency are not everything.
04:16The success of an innovation must also be measured by its ability to protect religion, protect life, protect intellectuals, protect
04:28lineages and property.
04:32That is why Muslims cannot merely be users of technologies developed by others.
04:42We must also be thinkers, creators and drivers of its directions.
04:52In ASEAN, especially in Southeast Asia, with our moderate Islamic traditions, our culture of courtesy and the diversity of our
05:05societies,
05:06A belief that we can offer an ethical technology model that embraces progress with eroding the values of identity of
05:18the Ummah.
05:36We must also be at least at a level of success with our way,
05:37in terms of the organization.
05:37We must be able to continue to create a way to achieve anti- nowadays,
05:37this is how we can achieve our personal complexity in between the generation and to the generation.
05:39This is how we are working in our culture together.
