00:10This woman walked into an electricity office carrying a pillow. Days earlier, the same
00:15woman had broken down on camera describing sleepless nights caused by recurring power
00:19cuts in Navi Mumbai's Ulwe. But this story was bigger than one viral protest.
00:28Across Ulwe, Kamothe, Vashi, Turbe, Airoli, Gansoli and Koparkhane, residents said they had been
00:35dealing with repeated and often unannounced power outages, many lasting through the night.
00:39Residents said the outages were affecting sleep, work, businesses and even access to water as
00:45pumping systems stopped functioning during power failures. Many also argued that Navi
00:52Mumbai's infrastructure had failed to keep pace with the rapid growth of areas surrounding
00:56the upcoming airport. But officials rejected claims of a larger power shortage.
01:00The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company said the disruptions were being caused
01:05by local technical falls, ageing underground cables, transformer failures and increased
01:09electricity demand during the summer. The utility said repair work and infrastructure
01:13upgrades were underway.

01:18For residents, however, the explanations offered little relief. And as temperatures continue to rise,
01:25frustration across Navi Mumbai spilled onto the streets in protest.
