A new NHS programme will offer meningitis B vaccination to Year 13 pupils and under 25s starting university or college. Officials say the aim is to reduce the risk of serious illness following recent outbreaks and protect students in shared accommodation settings.

00:07ahead of university and college entry this autumn. The one-off program gives two doses starting in
00:13July and August, with full protection requiring both injections at least 28 days apart. It follows
00:19recent meningitis outbreaks, including a major Kent cluster that left two teenagers dead and
00:25raised concerns nationally. Young people will be contacted via NHS app, text or letter or can book
00:32pharmacy appointments for vaccination. Health officials say the aim is to reduce serious
00:37illness and to protect students as they begin higher education this autumn.
