00:00So tell me about your ear rejuvenation surgery.
00:03We want to talk about a couple things, but what prompted this?
00:08Well, you know, my mom always used to complain about her earlobes
00:12and how the earring hole got bigger and heavier over time
00:18because you wear big, heavy earrings.
00:20And I was like, oh, mom, you know.
00:22And then I started noticing it because I would put an earring in my ear
00:28and the whole earring would go through, not just the post,
00:31but like the whole part of the earring.
00:34And I was like, oh, my God, like the hoops would flip all the way around
00:37with the back and the whole thing in it.
00:39And I was like, this is crazy.
00:41I'm like, I wonder, you know,
00:44Sam was always trying to get me to go under the knife.
00:46Like he's always looking for something, you know.
00:50And I'm like, no, no, I don't like pain.
00:52I don't like pain.
00:52And then I thought, wait, how much pain could that be?
00:55Like you don't even feel your earlobes.
00:57It's just cartilage, right?
00:58And so I was at the doctor and I asked him about it.
01:04And he was like, well, we make a slit
01:06and then we have to overlap it and blah, blah, blah.
01:09And he's like, it's a pretty involved surgery.
01:11And I have really good ears.
01:13So my ears do not stick out, right?
01:16My ears are flat against my head.
01:18And I'm a big ear person.
01:19Like if a kid has big ears, I'm like, well, okay.
01:22So I don't want to mess with the ears, right?
01:29So I was at the doctor and he goes, I just put a little filler in them.
01:33And I'm like, what?
01:36And his secretary, who was, you know, an older lady, she was like, you can do that?
01:43Oh my goodness.
01:43I think we started a new trend when it comes out, when it's posted, because everyone's going
01:49to do it.
01:50If it's just like boom, boom, boom.
01:52But he's going to do more.
01:53He went very cautiously at first and he's, but he's going to do some more.
01:58Yes.
01:58And how long was the, did the procedure take?
02:01Like from the moment you got in his chair until you were done?
02:04Three minutes.
02:05Oh, that's amazing.
02:06It was amazing.
02:08Yeah.
02:08And was the pain level, like, what was it?
02:10One to 10?
02:12Two.
02:12Oh my gosh.
02:13That's okay.
02:14That's incredible.
02:15Did you like see results right away?
02:17Like how soon was it?
02:18You could see a difference.
02:19He didn't want me to, okay.
02:21He didn't want me to wear earrings for like a week and I couldn't do it because I had an
02:26event that I had to go to.
02:28So I'm going to go get it done again, but I could see results immediately.
02:33But talk to me about, you know, you're, you're very resilient.
02:36You know, even with the medical issues you've had and you still travel all over the world,
02:41you teach dance, you're still highly sought after.
02:46How does it feel?
02:47Um, you know, having that aura about you, that vibe, you still, thank you.
02:52I don't know.
02:53Despite all the medical issues and despite everything you you've, you're so resilient.
02:56Well, that word's been coming up a lot and I don't know if it's really resilient or if
03:04it's just passionate about what I do and I want to keep doing it.
03:07My attorney said to me once, um, you know, dancers age, dance teachers do not.
03:16And, uh, you know, there's dance teachers, uh, Graciela Donnell and, uh, you know, uh, gosh,
03:26the names are escaping me, but there's just so many dance teachers out there that are,
03:30that are, you know, famous and, uh, just so well educated and Twyla Tharp, you know, people
03:38like that, that are still going strong and they're in their eighties.
03:42So I, I look to be, you know, one of them, uh, and I, I feel like I'm kind of
03:49a Pied Piper
03:50and the more children that I can get in a dance class, the better.
03:54And, and, you know, through all the tumultuous and ups and downs and highs and lows of the
04:01television show, dance moms, when I asked my class, did anyone here start to dance because
04:08of dance moms?
04:09And I see those hands go up.
04:11I know I did something right.
04:13Yes.
04:13Expanding on that a little bit, knowing that you really have opened up that world for so
04:19many people and inspired so many to get into dance and, and learn so much about it.
04:24How does that feel?
04:25It feels great.
04:26It feels great.
04:27I, you know, it's nice to hear the thank you every once in a while, especially, and this
04:32one kind of piece of the puzzle that people often forget about is the dance competitions.
04:38Some of those competitions were non-existent when they were on the TV show.
04:45Uh, they had just started.
04:47Uh, they weren't familiar.
04:49They didn't have people flocking to them.
04:52And, uh, you know, probably three or four of those competitions didn't really have a
04:59business until they appeared on television on dance moms.
05:02And now those same competitions have 25 cities they're going to, uh, they're making millions
05:10and millions of dollars, money hand over fist.
05:12Uh, you know, hire me, say thank you.
05:16And knowing that even though that the, the OG episodes of like the dance moms were years
05:22ago, they still resonate with the people nowadays, you know, on social media, you see them on
05:27TikTok, on Instagram, you see all these old clips and episodes coming up.
05:31How does that feel?
05:32Knowing that, like, even though these episodes aired years ago, decades ago, that people still
05:36are in love with these, with this show.
05:38It's absolutely mind boggling.
05:41And, uh, you know, it's timeless.
05:43And I think dance is a universal language.
05:46So everybody learns something, you know, even though dance has evolved, uh, you know, it's
05:52a constantly changing art form that there's so many more difficult steps, tricks, uh, aerial
06:02work.
06:02Uh, what, what, what do you want to say?
06:04Um, flexibility, uh, exercises it's come so far, but yet kids are still drawn to those
06:12dances and to the choreography and to the kids.
06:15And, uh, that that's great.
06:18You know, that that's, I love that.
06:21I wish we got residuals, but that's a different story.
06:25Really?
06:25So no residuals.
06:27Are you kidding?
06:28Are you kidding?
06:30If we got residuals, I would be sitting pretty.
06:33Yes.
06:33Wow.
06:34That's actually surprising.
06:35Sarah, we wouldn't need to do this interview.
06:37I would be booked busy.
06:39I would be, no, I would just go to my mailbox and get my checks.
06:42That was, that's it.
06:43I wouldn't need to work at all.
06:44Yeah, that is surprising actually.
06:47Reality TV does not get residuals.
06:49And what, what is your thoughts on, you know, you have so many, uh, you're the star of so many
06:54viral memes and gifts.
06:57You know, I see them on, on all the social medias, you know, the Abby Lee Miller gifts.
07:02What are your thoughts on, on being on, you know, showcased on so many of these?
07:06Just guess.
07:06I made a lot of crazy faces at people.
07:08I think sometimes I was speechless.
07:11So I just had to like, give the look, uh, or, or more often than not, I was given the
07:17look before the mouth opened.
07:19You know, I was like throwing the look out there.
07:21Like, do I really need to say something?
07:23Did you not understand what you just did was stupid, you know?
07:26And, uh, yeah, it, it's just silly.
07:29It's nonsense.
07:30I love that people love it and enjoy it.
07:32I, I get so excited when I see myself in stranger things and high school musical and all of those,
07:39uh, brilliant productions.
07:41It's like, can I really be in that?
07:43You know, like someone I'm available.
07:45Do you ever miss doing reality TV at all?
07:48I'm going back to reality TV.
07:51I'm doing a show, uh, that I, I just got a call today and the, the dates were changed
07:57a little bit.
07:58Uh, so I believe we start July 14th.
08:02Wow.
08:02Anything you can share?
08:03What, what can you tease?
08:05A big dance show.
08:06It's called hit the eight.
08:08Uh, and we're starting in, uh, Vegas and then Orlando, uh, we're trying to hit all the dance
08:17competitions as they go in the summer.
08:20All the big ones are in Orlando or, and, or Vegas.
08:25So we're going to hit those and they're going to hit the eight, the kids.
08:28And we start with a honey, 128 dancers and we narrow it down.
08:35It's a big battle.
08:36And the number keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller.
08:39So it's going to be very exciting.
08:41Wow.
08:42And where can we watch that?
08:43I don't know.
08:44Okay.
08:45I should know that.
08:46I know that, but let's just say there's an agitating grading voice involved.
08:54By the name of Kathy.
08:56Oh, oh, wow.
08:58Kathy makes a return.
09:00So Kathy and I will be back on screen together.
09:03Wow.
09:04We'd love, we'd love that.
09:06Okay.
09:06That is definitely something to, um, to tune in for, for sure.
09:11You got the tea, Sarah.
09:12I love the tea.
09:14I love the tea.
09:14What would be your best piece of advice for people just getting started and dance
09:19if you're young dancers who really don't know where to go or what would be your best
09:24piece of advice, just getting started in the, in the industry.
09:27Take my class on zoom.
09:28That would be number one, uh, because you can take from me anywhere in the world.
09:32I teach kids, uh, you know, on Sundays around the world, I have a hundred kids at a time
09:38and there's kids from Israel and, uh, uh, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Scotland.
09:46It's insane, you know, and dance is a universal language.
09:49So I just say, okay, grand plie in second.
09:53And like everyone goes down and everyone is silent and it's a wonderful class.
09:58Uh, but I think that you really need to check out your dance teachers in the United States
10:04of America.
10:04Dance teachers do not need a license to teach dance.
10:07There's no governing body.
10:09There's no health inspector.
10:10There's no buddy to come in and look at your ceilings or your floors or anything.
10:16It's very scary.
10:17And so I think you really need to go watch some recitals.
10:21Like now is the time.
10:23And if you have a parent, you know, a parents of three-year-olds, two and a half year olds,
10:27go, go watch the recital, see the end result.
10:30Look at the older kids.
10:31What are they doing?
10:32You know, how good are they?
10:35Look at, read the program.
10:36Do they have children and students going off to universities and colleges on full dance
10:41scholarships?
10:42Do they have people on Broadway that came from their studio?
10:44What are they producing?
10:45Your child may not want that.
10:47Your child might not even have the talent or the gift for that, but you want to be in
10:52the studio that could get them to that level, should they desire.
10:57And people always used to say to me, they bring a kid that was eight or nine and they'd
11:02say, well, she's really interested now.
11:04We started somewhere else down the street when she was three, but now like we realize that
11:11she's better than those kids and she wants to do more.
11:14And I'm like, it's too late.
11:16Like I have to reteach your nine-year-old everything they learned from the time they were two and
11:22a half.
11:22You should start with the best teacher.
11:24We've got tiger uns Kascha in his year.
11:25And I'm going to show you guys that they like to practice.
11:25I wish I was go on the floor.
