00:05Giants minicamp day two it's in the books this is your Blue Rush post-practice report Paul
00:10Schwartz Brandon London the guys got after it today Paul seen a lot of football the last two
00:15days let's get straight into it who jumped out on tape for Paul today well you know I was looking
00:21at the you know look the interior guys you really can't see a whole lot right you know I'm not
00:26going
00:26to start judging DJ reader and you know and and some of the interior guys and how you know John
00:30Michael Schmitz is doing in there yes you know there's no pads on but so you know you focus on
00:35DB's you focus on receivers which is all you think about anyway when you think about football right
00:39because that's that was your life right all day every years and DB's yes you know I I thought
00:46that Odell Beckham looked good I thought he looked better today needed yesterday and I thought he
00:54looked like look I've been covering him since 2014 does he look like that Odell no no does he have
01:01that unbelievable burst no but he catches the ball you know I saw in one early drill you know just
01:07you
01:07know you something with they had like cones bing bing bing bing a little curl here he dropped the ball
01:13Odell wasn't going to stay for that so he just went right back in the rotation and just went all
01:17over again
01:18you know he did it next it's like and I don't know is that normal or do usually that you
01:22got to wait in
01:22line for your next turn well he goes last so you never want to end the drill on the drop
01:27so he
01:27circled back and had to get it right go get that catch don't get that yeah I'm not leaving that
01:31absolutely absolutely no I thought there were two interesting plays today where he you know look the
01:37Giants are high on Colton Hood right there their um second round for sure the cornerback and um I
01:43thought Odell showed a little bit of veteran cooking the you know on two routes one deep one
01:49he just lost hood you know he just lost them and you know I was trying to look and see
01:53are these like
01:54these Odell crazy moves and I didn't think so but there's got to be something savvy enough there
01:59where it kind of got hood off his game a little bit two very good catches but then Colton Hood
02:05came back
02:05on the left sideline against Darnell Mooney with a you know it was like kind of a wimby a wimbayana
02:11you know he swatted that really good pass breakup absolutely so how do you how do you think that
02:17Odell is look because you're trained you have trained eyes well when you first watch Odell again
02:22what you say you when you if you manage your expectations and you watch him through the lens
02:27on what they brought him in for he's over exceeding expectations right now and coming down with the
02:33football we knew the route savvy was going to be there we knew he was a route runner he knew
02:38how
02:38to run the tree he knows how to lie when it comes to the stem of his routes so when
02:43you're saying
02:43like he lost a rookie defender a rookie DB that's something that we should expect from a veteran
02:48like that who's had success in the league but this is your second round pick this is not some guy
02:54you know who's not going to be here this second round pick is going to be here so that I
02:58think it's
02:59great for both guys absolutely and you hate the cliche iron sharpens iron but now Colton Hood
03:04gets a really good look by a really good talent and the same for Odell I'm he's not going to
03:09be
03:09able to run that route like that very much often or for too much longer because now as the rookie
03:15picks up he'll be there a little bit more step for step like he was with Mooney but again Odell's
03:20catching the football with the catch radius away from the body catching it securing it and he's still
03:25having a little bit of room left to wiggle and here's what I would look every day that Odell
03:30Beckham is on the field here and participates and then comes off the field and then can go back the
03:35next day yeah win for that's the right now right now now you know he's got to produce produce it
03:40well look this was he signed you know what a week ago a week ago he participated in this three
03:46day
03:46three day camp it's really a two day camp tomorrow is basically a kind of a walkthrough thing you know
03:51John Harbaugh said these are the the two days these are when we finish this camp portion of it
03:55and now he's gonna get a long break seven weeks right go down absolutely absolutely let his body
04:01cool down and then he has to hit it hard in training camp in West Virginia so then we're gonna
04:06see
04:07right you have three four days with no pads then the pads come on and look for all these guys
04:11look
04:11I thought that I think that Darnell Mooney has looked fine yes I thought Juju Smith-Schuster has looked
04:17fine caught a touchdown today yeah maybe a little clunkier maybe but he looked you know these guys
04:23are veterans and you can tell that they know what they're doing are they the stars of the show no
04:27and and and John Harbaugh said it's an interesting thing because we brought in three guys veterans who
04:33can be leaders but they can they can teach guys they can show their savvy but all three of them
04:39are
04:39trying to make the team absolutely so it's not we're here and we're just kind of coasting through
04:44they often make the team but nobody made the team in these two days um but you know next month
04:49they'll
04:49start making the team for when it comes to Juju Smith-Schuster with him playing in the slot I think
04:53you put a little bit of more weight on his body become a little bit more physical because it gets
04:57dirty down there when you lose a step or two you kind of have to replace that when it comes
05:02to muscle
05:02mass to have a little bit more physicality Isaiah likely has looked good Jalen Hyatt has looked good
05:08throughout the course of the last two days Malachi Fields has had a couple catches you're getting a
05:13chance to see Daylin uh Daylin Cambry Dallin Cabry had a the the play of the day with the one
05:20-handed
05:20catch you're seeing a lot when it comes to this receiver room and who's trying to step up Calvin
05:26Austin is looking has looked good as absolutely absolutely guys you kind of get out look up say
05:3082 82 82 yeah I mean he's kind of like slithering in and out of there I mean I I
05:35think for what they
05:35want him to be it in June he looks good yeah we'll see but look he's a proven guy he's
05:43played in the
05:44league before you know so it's it's while we're waiting for Darius Slayton and we're really waiting
05:49from link neighbors so far so good with this whole trip and I think it's worth noting Tyrone Tracy
05:54Jr. has been one of the stars of the entire spring but it was good to see Cam Scadaboo out
05:59there today
06:00participating in team drills putting his foot into the ground trying to get north-south took a little bit of
06:05contact from one of his teammates but we're still able to show some sort of burst safe to say that
06:10that ankle is 100% we move on to the defensive side of the football because you mentioned Wimby earlier
06:17it's like in the middle of the football field in the second level in terms of the interior linebackers
06:22you've got Wimby and Mitch Robinson or Wimby and Carl Anthony Towns in the middle with Tremont Tremaine
06:30Edmonds and Arville Reese both of those dudes are rim protectors and run stoppers and they've both been
06:37as advertised so far Tremaine Edmonds baiting Jameis Winston with the interception across the middle
06:42to end the team period today I mean I'll be interesting really interested to talk to the
06:46quarterbacks in training camp after a few days and say what is it like throwing against those
06:51yeah absolutely Bobby Okereke was a good you know he's not that kind of stature Michael McFadden is
06:57not that kind of guy they haven't had that kind of a linebacker and now they have two of them
07:02now
07:03Arville Reese we spoke to him earlier today and you know he's I wouldn't say a man a few words
07:09but he
07:09likes to yeah be seen and not heard so much and but he looks like a big linebacker which he
07:16is
07:16Tremaine Edmonds doesn't look like a linebacker he's just everything about him his hands his he's
07:22just a such a big dude yeah that he just I can't put my you know my wrap my head
07:28around that he is not
07:29a edge rusher that he's a linebacker and Brian Burns said I asked him about the size of these guys
07:35he just kind of laughed and he said they look like us meaning Kayvon and Abdul Carter and Brian Burns
07:43they look like us being edge rushers they're not in the same room and that is true they look like
07:48us
07:48so when you have Kayvon Brian Burns Abdul Carter and now you have Arville Reese and Tremaine Edmonds you
07:57have five athletes who are all absolutely what between six four and six five absolutely absolutely
08:05across the board different body types but big big men wingspans um you know look the challenge
08:13is going to be for Denard Wilson to not get them all on a field together but get them in
08:18a rotation
08:19and see what they do best that is the meat of this team right now that is when you look
08:25at what is great
08:26about this team nothing yet but there's potential for greatness there with that group of athletes
08:33you mentioned Denard Wilson being able to get them on the field together it's also about how he can
08:38get those guys off the field together as well and I think he's done a great job a really good
08:44job so
08:44far in terms of getting the secondary up to speed now we have seen back-to-back days with the
08:50blown coverage
08:51uh that's kind of gone for a touchdown but outside of that we mentioned Colton Hood having the pass
08:56breakup Paulson Adebo had the really nice interception I think they had two interceptions
09:01and a forced fumble yesterday I think we had two interceptions on the day Tremaine Edmonds and I
09:06believe I forgot who had that last one Paul slipped my mind do you remember I don't remember we want
09:12to
09:12make sure we give guys we'll write in the comments below when we figure that when we figure out who
09:16that
09:16was but you're seeing a lot of smart competitiveness because let's say it is a deep ball guys guys are
09:23guys are not contesting 50-50 catches at the point of attack and I know some of you might be
09:30home being
09:30like oh that's boring we want to see guys be able to go after it but you don't want a
09:34guy to hit the
09:35ground have a shoulder injury that kind of ails and nags and now they're not able to train and prepare
09:41for training camp the way that they would be if they were 100 healthy you know who had the interception
09:47it just came to me we mentioned Jalen Hyatt earlier Tate Banks had the interception he picked off Braylon Allen
09:53I was going to mention Tate Banks that if you didn't know anything right and you just showed up and
09:57you look
09:57and watch and watch and you would say that guy number two yeah he's around the ball look Tate Banks
10:04is a
10:04physical big fast cornerback that's why he was a first-round traveler and we've seen that that has
10:11not translated that physical ability is not translated to performance on the field yeah but
10:17it's a new coaching staff Denon Wilson is the defensive coordinator but he is a DB coach at heart
10:23you know this is a defense that has been coached from back to forward because he's a defensive back
10:29kind of guy and maybe they could get something look if Deontay Banks is a good to serviceable player
10:37then that is a just an incredible benefit for this defense because he has ability they don't have to
10:45doesn't have to be CB1 really doesn't have to be CB2 Newsome had a good news and had a really
10:50good day
10:51today he had a really good day so if Deontay Banks who look if fans can say he's a lost
10:57cause that's fine
10:58John Harbaugh doesn't think he's a lost cause and if he and Denard Wilson can get him up to snuff
11:03and just use the athletic ability enough and he's a serviceable player that just adds to the depth
11:08lastly I want to make sure I highlight Jordan Stout has looked like an absolute cheat code and I tweeted
11:14that he may be the most underrating underrated free agency signing that the Giants have and that's
11:21saying a lot after you bring in a Patrick Picard you bring in Jermaine Edmonds and Isaiah likely I mean
11:26downing them inside the five today like they was mad and coughing corner I mean the kid you can
11:31that's a defense's best friend when you have a punter that can kind of make you go 80 plus
11:37all right a lot to impact or a lot to unpack from today that was your Blue Rush post practice
