Conservative Party Leader Kemi Badenoch says when police "withhold" facts from the public about crimes "people assume the very worst and that breeds mistrust". Her comments come after she was asked about the arrest of a man in Belfast on suspicion of attempted murder and after details were released about his nationality. Report by Brooksl. 00:00So I know that there is a live police investigation so there's only so much that I can say on
00:05this
00:05but it is important that we have trust in our police. They should be able to put out as many
00:12facts as possible so that communities understand what has happened. I think when facts are withheld
00:18people assume the very worst and that breeds mistrust. I think it is quite important that
00:24the police show that they're able to tell people what is going on within their powers.
00:30What it does raise is more concerns about borders. A lot of people will be speculating about
00:36immigration. This is why all of us politicians from every party need to get a grip on the UK's
00:42borders. That's why the Conservatives have said we will leave the Convention on Human Rights. We
00:46have a borders bill with a full plan on how we will make this work. I want to see Labour
00:50doing the same
00:51thing. They've been talking about smashing the gangs and stopping the boats for two years.
00:55They've not smashed any gangs or stopped any boats and that it's because people are worried about
00:59that issue that they will try and that they will be speculating about what's happened in Belfast as well.
