00:00We're finding more and more evidence that what we eat contributes to a range of outcomes within the human body,
00:05not just weight.
00:06And now researchers say that a Mediterranean diet, or one high in veg, seafood, and whole grains, can actually revert
00:12your biological brain age.
00:14According to the clinical trials, brain scans taken 18 months apart showed that those who were on the specific diet
00:20had a brain age that was months younger than it should have been.
00:22That is to say months younger than their chronological age, and the results are pretty much the same across the
00:27board.
00:27With regards to those who underwent a Mediterranean dietary change, even when weight loss was insignificant.
00:33However, the study also found that the more weight loss, the greater the impact on brain age.
00:37With the researchers indicating that for every 1% of body weight lost, the brain appeared 9 months younger in
00:42scans.
00:43And this adds to the growing body of research over the years, which has found that an improved diet results
00:48in an improved bodily condition.
00:49With the study's lead author, neuroscientist Giden Levakov saying about it, quote,
00:53Our study highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including lower consumption of processed foods, sweets, and beverages, in maintaining
01:01brain health.
