00:54:02First tonight, Lyra battles Sul Ruka for the Intercontinental Championship and then Friday night on SmackDown.
00:54:08She participates in the final first round matchup in the Queen of the Ring Tournament with an opportunity to advance
00:54:15to the semifinals.
00:54:17Let's head up to the ring. The great Alicia Taylor.
00:54:26The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Women's Intercontinental Championship.
00:54:40Introducing the challenger from Dublin, Ireland, Lyra Valkyria.
00:54:54And her opponent from Honolulu, Hawaii.
00:55:01She is the Women's Intercontinental Champion, Sul Ruka.
00:55:12I want to start with the challenger, Lyra Valkyria, because this is a match nearly one year in the making.
00:55:18Remember, when she lost at SummerSlam, she could no longer challenge for an Intercontinental Championship opportunity.
00:55:24That's a stipulation as long as Becky Lynch was the champ.
00:55:29Lynch is no longer the champ. Lyra's got a chance.
00:55:32Potentially speaking, Lyra has an opportunity to become Intercontinental Champion once again.
00:55:36What I'm curious to see is whether or not Lyra Valkyria has developed a killer instinct.
00:55:41We talked about the difference between winning a champion and becoming a champion and staying a champion.
00:55:46Killer instinct can make all the difference.
00:55:48If Lyra shows us that tonight, she technically speaking has what it takes to knock off Ruka.
00:55:52And I think Lyra may be able to pull that off because I loved what I saw out of Lyra
00:55:57last week.
00:55:58Bayley was in the middle of that interview.
00:56:00Lyra saw Sol Ruka down the hallway.
00:56:02She left the interview, walked down to Sol, and basically challenged her for this match tonight.
00:56:06And Sol, being a fighting champion, decided to put the gold on the line.
00:56:09Certainly Lyra sees what she wants and is doing her best to take it.
00:56:12Whether or not she has what it takes to get past Ruka remains to be seen.
00:56:16Okay, what does Ruka need to do to win her first title defense here tonight?
00:56:19Stick with what brought her to the dance.
00:56:20Sol Ruka is going to be looking for the Soul Snatcher.
00:56:22Maybe the most spectacular move in the game right now.
00:56:25With that said, Sol has to mix it up a little bit.
00:56:28We know Sol wants to hit the Soul Snatcher, but Lyra knows that as well.
00:56:32So Sol needs to come at Lyra from different angles.

00:56:50With that said, the path is not going to get any easier.
00:56:53Sol Ruka, as long as she holds the Intercontinental Championship, or any title for that matter,

00:57:20The fact is, a product of the WWE Performance Center, Sol is about as well-trained as anybody can be.
00:57:25It's what she does with that training now, how she applies it, that's really going to make or break her.

00:57:35Here's the thing, for all the flips and tricks somebody can do in the ring,
00:57:38sometimes you're going to get punched in the mouth.

00:57:53Lyra certainly has the experience advantage.
00:57:55It's whether or not she's willing to pull the trigger when it's necessary.
00:57:58And among those who've trained Lyra Valkyria, none other than SmackDown's newest acquisition,
00:58:03Finn Balor trained Lyra very early on in her career.
00:58:07And again, champion's advantage for Ruka tonight.
00:58:10Lyra's got to pin her submit the champion.
00:58:12And Lyra now, with Sol up on her shoulders, maybe looking for Nightwing.
00:58:16And with that being said, with champion's advantage in effect,
00:58:19if you're Sol Ruka, you want to win this thing by pinfall or submission.
00:58:22You don't want any controversy in your first championship defense.
00:58:25You know that's what Sol's looking for tonight.
00:58:27A clean, decisive victory.

00:59:14and now the current Intercontinental Champion.
00:59:16Well, unfortunately, Lyra also all too familiar with the feeling of losing
00:59:19the Intercontinental Championship.
00:59:20And what a heartbreaker that can be.
00:59:22And how it can truly turn your entire career upside down.
00:59:25And it's interesting, Lyra now, she's been so focused on tag team action with
00:59:29Bayley over the last number of months and trying to win the tag team titles.
00:59:32And here now is the cover and a kick out.
00:59:35Does that curb her in this one-on-one matchup?
00:59:37No, I don't believe it does.
00:59:38I believe, if anything, Lyra has learned a trick or two from Bayley,
00:59:41who's been around the game for plenty of time to learn how to become champion.
00:59:45How to stay champion.
00:59:47And if Lyra absorbed any of the knowledge Bayley possesses,
00:59:49I think she's going to be all right in that respect.
00:59:51Yeah, Lyra made the point to Bayley a little bit ago that,
00:59:53hey, it's been almost a year since I was champ.
00:59:55Bayley understands that for a while since Bayley has held gold.
00:59:59It's almost detrimental to Bayley to be that understanding.
