00:02Democrats in Maine head to the polls tomorrow with their Senate primary suddenly focused
00:07on Graham Plattner's past as much as his campaign. Platt remains the favorite to win the Democratic
00:13nomination and take on Republican Senator Susan Collins this fall. But a series of reports about
00:19his treatment of women continues to follow him into the final hours of the race. Last week,
00:24the New York Times published allegations from former girlfriends who described Plattner as
00:29volatile and at times physically intimidating. Plattner denies any physical abuse and says he's
00:35been open about mistakes he made during a difficult period in his life. The controversy dominated the
00:41Sunday shows. California Congressman Ro Khanna, who campaigned with Plattner in Maine on Friday,
00:48criticized the candidate's past behavior but said many voters had already weighed those concerns.
00:53His actions were misogynistic. They were shameful. They were wrong. But they didn't come as a
00:59surprise to a lot of the folks in Maine. And the Maine voters that I met said they don't like
01:05it.
01:05They knew that he had these chapters. They are willing to extend him grace and redemption.
01:10And they're focused now on what he's running for. Obviously, look, if there was evidence of violence,
01:16I would not support him. If there was evidence of sexual assault, I'd have zero support for him.
01:23Virginia Senator Mark Warner offered a more cautious response on Fox News.
01:28Listen, if these allegations are true, they're very troubling. But I don't know if they're true or not.
01:35I think, frankly, the people of Maine ought to decide that. I guess they'll have a chance on Tuesday.
01:40Supporters argue Plattner has taken responsibility for his past and deserves the chance to move forward.
01:45I think Graham Plattner is an amazing brave man. I think he's been through a lot. I think he has
01:52found flaws in himself that he's willing to recognize. How many times do we hear something
01:57like this? And the only response is, that's a lie. That's fake news. It's refreshing to have
02:05someone actually own up to stuff that they've done and say, yeah, that wasn't such a great idea.
02:11I'm working to be a better person. Tomorrow's primary will determine whether Democrats move
02:17ahead with Plattner as their candidate in one of the party's top Senate pickup opportunities this
02:22year. Democrats need to flip four seats in November to win control of the Senate.
