00:00Stole our bit, but you look like s**t
00:01because we're the ones that are down with it.
00:03Hey Marie Claire, this is Gabrielle Union
00:04and this is Solicited Advice.
00:08When is it time to delete someone's number
00:11and what earns them a place on the permanent block list?
00:14It's time to delete someone's number
00:16when they irritate the f**k out of me the first time.
00:18I'm at the age where I, I don't know.
00:21Why, who has time?
00:22Not me, you got one good time to try me
00:25and then it's over.
00:26It's, you are deleted, you are blocked
00:28and I forget you're alive.
00:30My in-laws keep pulling the back in the day card
00:33when they see my parenting choices as too progressive.
00:38How can I get them to see eye to eye with me?
00:41Why do you have to see eye to eye with anyone
00:43that is not in your home raising your children with you?
00:48It's okay to be like, oh, thank you for that.
00:50I'm doing my own thing, but thank you.
00:52I appreciate your care and concern.
00:53Or nobody asked you.
00:56What's your advice for reinventing yourself
00:58when people around you still expect the old you?
01:01I don't reinvent myself.
01:03I am who I am.
01:03I just get rid of the people around me
01:05who want me to stay the same.
01:07Re-invent what?
01:08I'm in, I've been in, I'll still be in tomorrow
01:11and the next year.
01:14What are some topics that should always be off limits
01:17when it comes to motherhood advice?
01:19Offering advice that no one asked for.
01:22Don't talk about anybody's baby's looks
01:24or things you could do to improve your baby's looks.
01:27I got a lot of that.
01:28It's your baby.
01:29You think that your baby's perfect.
01:31And to have someone offer advice
01:34about how your baby could be cuter,
01:37that is also going to get you on the block forever,
01:40ever, ever list.
01:42F*** off.
01:43Don't tell me about my child.
01:44Don't tell me your thoughts about what you think
01:47is happening in my household with my child.
01:50I feel like you're RSVPing to an invitation I never sent.
01:57You heard 2000's iconic film characters
02:00are always on my fashion mood boards.
02:02Who's on mine?
02:04Solange, always.
02:05The 80s and 90s supermodels,
02:08everyone from Karen White, Gail O'Neill,
02:12Beverly Johnson from the 70s.
02:15There's so many.
02:16Like I, I constantly am going back to the Battle of Versailles.
02:20Um, what, what is old is new.
02:22And that's a personal thing,
02:24because I'm old, but I'm new.
02:26What's your strategy for surviving a group chat
02:29you regret joining?
02:30Well, first of all,
02:31a lot of the group chats I'm in,
02:32I did not ask to join.
02:34Like my, my, my in-laws.
02:36Mourning religious texts.
02:39I love Jesus.
02:40I do.
02:41I love God, I love Jesus.
02:43But somehow my husband isn't in this chat,
02:45but I am in it.
02:46And I find that to be unfair.
02:47If anyone needs the word of the Lord, it's him.
02:50Not me.
02:51What's your advice for walking back into a room where you just tripped?
02:55Own it.
02:56Laugh, child, because it's funny.
02:57There's nothing funnier than a fall where someone doesn't get injured.
03:01I'm just like, oh, I'm tripping.
03:04What's the best advice you've encountered having spent years in the glam chair?
03:09There's who you think you are,
03:10and then who you actually are and what you actually look like.
03:14Something like foundation.
03:15Inside, you may be a whole different color than what you actually look like.
03:20It's best to go by what you see in the mirror.
03:23If your neck does not match your jaw, let's just go.
03:28Let's go for, you know, something in the middle, perhaps.
03:30It's okay to let the melanin shine, child.
03:34Don't try to diminish it.
03:35Don't try to be like, oh, let's take it down.
03:38Let's bring it up.
03:39It's okay to be your true self.
03:43What's your advice for trying to channel Clover's energy in a Toro's world?
03:48Well, a real Clover will call it out to your face in real time.
03:53And that, I keep that same energy for every day.
03:56You know me.
03:57Like, I'm not one to hold my tongue.
03:59Listen, you do what you got to do for justice.
04:02Personal justice, world justice.
04:04Sometimes you got to remove yourself when you are shown the door time and time again.
04:10Sometimes it's okay to just leave.
04:13How do I stay soft and open in a world that rewards being hard?
04:18I'm just trying to learn how to be soft and what that even means.
04:22It's hard when you have to be responsible and accountable for
04:28a number of households to be, to take to my sick bed.
04:32And, oh, you know, it's hard to be open for care and consideration
04:39when it has historically not been given.
04:41I think the best advice is to give yourself grace as often as you can.
04:45And sometimes say, no, I'm taking to my sick bed, when you're not even sick.
04:51Fake a gastrointestinal issue.
04:52They don't ask a lot of follow-up questions for that.
04:55What are your tips for serving a look courtside?
04:58Well, things done changed, child.
05:00We just were trying to be cute, child.
05:01There weren't whole blogs and TikToks and all the things, social media,
05:06highlighting or tearing apart your courtside looks.
05:08These girls, they coming with it, bag down to the socks, outfit, all name brands.
05:15Like, I can't afford that today.
05:16These days, I try to go for a tough, cute, crazy, sexy, cool, a little something.
05:21Oh my God, she's 52.
05:22That's really my goal these days, um, is to give them a little shock and awe.
05:29How do you keep one-upping anniversary gifts as the years go on?
05:33Luckily for me, I don't.
05:35My husband, good luck for him.
05:37So this year, I sang.
05:38And I saw some comments of like, she sang for their 10-year anniversary?
05:43Yes, I did.
05:43Because it's cost-effective.
05:45Now, were those background singers that I brought in from the United States cost-effective?
05:49No, no, they weren't.
05:50But they made me sound a lot better.
05:51And it's really about being thoughtful.
05:53I want effort.
05:56What's your advice for making a comeback when life and maybe love hasn't gone according to plan?
06:02I am a big, firm believer in get back on the horse immediately.
06:05Because you know what's not going to stop for you or your pain?
06:08The world.
06:09And you're like, does no one care?
06:11No.
06:12Unfortunately, no one is going to care as much as you do about the state of your heart or your
06:17life.
06:17My aunt gave great advice that significant others are like Kleenex.
06:24Take one out.
06:26Use it.
06:26Oh look, another one's popped up in its place.
06:28Some people are like, I'm never going to have another Kleenex.
06:30There's so many.
06:31Go through the box, child.
06:33Go through the box.
06:35And when you're dead, no one's going to be like, oh my god, thank god she didn't use her vagina.
06:40What's your go-to excuse for leaving a party early when your social battery is dead?
06:45I don't have an excuse.
06:46I just leave.
06:47That's what grown people do.
06:49I'm not going to do the old, I'm leaving you guys.
06:51Because then everyone's like, why are you leaving?
06:52It's so much fun.
06:53I just leave.
06:54All right guys, thanks so much for watching.
06:56Bye-bye.
06:57Bye-bye.
06:59Bye-bye.
07:00Bye-bye.
