00:00Ha ha ha, you would sleep through your own hanging jack.
00:04Don't start with him.
00:09Welcome to Mojo Plays, and the PS3 was the last golden era for licensed games with so many worth your
00:16time,
00:16some of the best either got overlooked or have been forgotten to time by all but us.
00:21We'll never leave you behind, licensed PS3 games.
00:24Why are we watching TV with our full costume on?
00:28Because I get the feeling someone is watching us.
00:32Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest
00:37videos.
00:40Gotham City Imposters
00:48Gotham City Imposters was an idea so bizarre,
00:51some might have believed it to be an early April Fool's joke.
00:54Donning the guises of Batman and Joker imposters, players would proceed to shoot each other with all the reckless abandon
01:00you'd expect from the crazies of Gotham City.
01:03The combination of Team Fortress 2-style visuals and fast-paced Call of Duty gunplay,
01:07with the addition of numerous gadgets like grappling hooks, explosive pies, freeze guns, and more,
01:13kept combat unpredictable and leaned into the zany concept and art style.
01:17Matches were designed to be incredibly fast-paced,
01:20which naturally led to quite a lot of on-screen chaos across the equally ridiculously designed maps that accounted for
01:26player experimentation.
01:28The simple pick-up-and-play gameplay style made it approachable,
01:31but the tonal shift from the brooding Arkham games didn't find an audience,
01:34and the game was ultimately shut down.
01:44Avatar The Game
01:45But I won't be dealing with you on Pandora, okay?
01:47You're Dr. Harper's problem.
01:49You disappoint him, and that becomes my problem.
01:52So I got three words for you.
01:54Don't screw up.
01:56I got it.
01:57It cannot be overstated what a cultural impact Avatar had when it released back in 2009.
02:02And while the video game never received the same widespread recognition or accolades as the film,
02:08for the time, it was the closest fans could get to exploring Pandora.
02:12Pandora within the game can be downright gorgeous at times,
02:15and perfectly recaptures the feeling of seeing the world for the first time,
02:19and the game even supported 3D at release, just like the movie.
02:22With both human and Na'vi campaigns,
02:25both offered differing playstyles that made each side feel unique.
02:28The gameplay itself might not have been revolutionary,
02:31just your standard third-person shooter,
02:33but it was being able to explore the world,
02:35ride a Banshee,
02:36and experience an entirely original narrative set within the world of Pandora
02:40that made it so impressive.
02:41Not too bad for a 2009 movie tie-in.
02:44You have done much for my clan.
02:47We stand beside you, Dreamwalker.
02:50You have saved our young hunters.
02:53Marvel Ultimate Alliance
03:04As long-time fans of comics, particularly Marvel,
03:07the idea of all our favorite heroes teaming up together in one game
03:11was something we always hoped for,
03:13and the result was even better than we had dreamed.
03:15With a shocking roster of 140 heroes and villains,
03:19building your ideal squad to tackle missions
03:22and lay the beat down on anything in your way
03:24was glorious in the best way.
03:27Sure, the combat was a bit button-mashy,
03:29but if you managed to build the perfect team
03:31or play with four real-life friends,
03:33it didn't matter how repetitive the combat got.
03:35You were still having a great time
03:37watching your favorite heroes unleash their ultimate powers.
03:40The story was equally epic in scale,
03:42full of iconic locations from the comics
03:44and plenty of fan service around every corner.
03:47The graphics might not be as good as we remembered,
03:50but the fun is as timeless as the heroes themselves.
03:53Very impressive.
03:55I would not have thought you'd survive an encounter with Galactus.
03:59But you must return to Earth now.
04:02Green Lantern, Rise of the Manhunters
04:05Ah, Ring, forget that, will ya?
04:07I'm okay.
04:09How you doing, Pooza?
04:11Me? I'm fine, but you're the one...
04:13One of the rare cases where the video game adaptation
04:16is far superior to the movie it's based on,
04:19adapting the Green Lantern's powers is no enviable task.
04:22But, to the devs' credit,
04:23Rise of the Manhunters does an admirable job.
04:26The ability to create multiple types of constructs
04:29using the power ring is the real draw of the gameplay,
04:32allowing players to easily chain constructs together
04:34or switch between melee, ranged, or crowd control on the fly.
04:38The beat-em-up style action is surprisingly satisfying and impactful,
04:42and unlocking new constructs keeps combat interesting
04:45when the game starts feeling a bit too linear.
04:48The game's production values are also surprisingly high,
04:51even managing to get Ryan Reynolds to reprise his role of Hal Jordan,
04:54and the numerous constructs are quite impressively designed.
04:57While the Green Lantern movie might be a joke now,
05:00the game showcased the potential the film was lacking.
05:02In brightest day, in blackest night.
05:06Beware my power!
05:08Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the game.
05:18Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was already a love letter to retro arcade games,
05:23so it's only fitting Scott got one of his own.
05:25And like many other quick cash-grab beat-em-ups,
05:28Scott Pilgrim vs. The World not only paid homage to its classic roots,
05:32but modernized many of the mechanics to make it a classic on its own.
05:36The art style is downright gorgeous,
05:38full of vibrant hand-drawn animations and detailed sprite characters
05:42that just ooze charm right off the screen,
05:44made even better by the chip-tuned style score
05:47that kept you tapping your toes as much as you matched the buttons.
05:50The gameplay itself was equally fun with responsive controls,
05:53upgradable stats, and optional 4-player co-op for additional chaos.
05:57Basically, whether you're a fan of the series, the movie,
06:00or just the beat-em-up genre,
06:02Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a generational classic
06:05that is as timeless as its influences.
06:14G-Force.
06:15Darwin, can you confirm you have Saber in sight?
06:18You bet I do.
06:19And he's wearing some mighty sharp threads.
06:22I'm afraid the security checkpoint looks all locked down.
06:24This one might seem odd, but stick with us here.
06:27While the movie itself is wildly forgettable,
06:29the video game tie-in is a remarkably fun time
06:32and makes you wonder why the team behind the game
06:34didn't work on the movie to make it better.
06:36The environments and characters are surprisingly detailed
06:39for what would typically be a cheap cash grab,
06:41the variety of platforming and gadgets work in tandem with one another,
06:45making navigating the world effortless,
06:47and combat encounters don't feel forced or repetitive
06:50and help break up the traditional platforming.
06:52The game oozes charm from its little rodents,
06:54and the inclusion of the film's voice cast
06:56makes the game feel like an extension of the film
06:58rather than a bargain bin title.
07:00Everything about the game just works,
07:02and even if you're not a fan of the film,
07:04you can still have a good time taking on these guinea pigs' missions.
07:08And Darwin, keep us updated on your progress.
07:11I'm eating now, and it's going well.
07:14Hurley, spare us, okay?
07:16Injustice, Gods Among Us.
07:18Now run along, so I can break out of here.
07:20I've got lots of planning to do to top this.
07:25That's enough.
07:29Injustice finally answered the playground question we all had growing up.
07:33Who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman?
07:36Not only did NetherRealm craft one of their most balanced and impressive fighting games,
07:40but the roster was absolutely stacked with 24 playable characters at launch,
07:45with more added through DLC,
07:47each with their own unique powers and abilities fans were familiar with.
07:50Stages were impressively intricate,
07:53featuring multiple levels,
07:54adding another layer of strategic depth to encounters,
07:56and made battles more over the top and filled with spectacle.
08:00The what-if narrative of Superman turning against all his former allies
08:03spawned an entire new series of comics and stories,
08:06building off the foundation the game built,
08:09full of unexpected twists and moments with emotional weight.
08:12The brutality of NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat series might have been significantly toned down,
08:17but was still a vast improvement over Mortal Kombat vs. DC.
08:20You thought you could fool me, Bruce?
08:22Like he did?
08:23This isn't about Joker.
08:25It's about you.
08:26I perfected this world.
08:28So many lives lost,
08:30because I held back,
08:31when I should have used all my power.
08:33Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End.
08:38Boothstrapped, little Turner.
08:41Never thought to see your face back aboard the Pearl.
08:43For old time's sake, Jack,
08:45I be here to warn you.
08:46Years before Edward Kenway would set sail,
08:49players had the chance to set out on the high seas
08:51with arguably the best fictional pirate of all time,
08:54Jack Sparrow.
08:55At World's End might have been overlooked
08:57as simply another tie-in game at launch
08:59that's doing Jack and the Black Pearl a disservice.
09:02The game is downright gorgeous, even today,
09:05with incredibly detailed character models and environments,
09:08and simply exploring the world feels alive.
09:11The game offers players a sprawling and dangerous world
09:14full of puzzles to solve,
09:15intense naval combat,
09:16and epic boss fights on the scale of the blockbuster films.
09:20Even basic combat is fun and engaging,
09:22with fast-paced and dynamic sword fights
09:24that make incredible use of the environment
09:26to keep each encounter feeling fresh.
09:28It might not be the greatest pirate game you have ever heard of,
09:31but you have heard of it, mate,
09:33and should set a course for that horizon.
09:35Normally I would oblige.
09:36However, regrettably and lamentably,
09:38it's not the same inside.
09:45Goldeneye 007 Reloaded.
09:52Nice fuck, James.
09:54Just like old times.
09:55Goldeneye on the N64
09:56will forever remain a classic for minigamers.
10:00However, for anyone who's tried to replay it recently,
10:03it might not hold up as well as you remember.
10:05However, the updated 007 Reloaded
10:07not only looks and plays like you remember,
10:10but in a lot of ways,
10:11improves on what we already considered
10:13the gold standard back in the day.
10:15Updated graphics and controls
10:17make navigating the familiar hallways and corridors a breeze,
10:20and the improved and updated character models
10:22and environments breathe new life
10:24into the N64's blocky models and textures.
10:26And what would Goldeneye be without its multiplayer?
10:30The best part of Goldeneye
10:31has also been vastly improved
10:33with countless modifiers and customization options
10:35and plenty of maps.
10:37The only real caveat is Reloaded
10:39replacing Pierced Brosnan with Daniel Craig,
10:41but this is negligible
10:42when the rest of the game is so good.
10:45And a full list of recommendations.
10:47Ma'am?
10:47I've instructed Mr. Tanner
10:48to offer you his complete assistance.
10:50I think you're breaking up.
10:52The Incredible Hulk.
11:01The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction
11:03remains one of the best solo Hulk games of all time,
11:06but for some reason,
11:08the tie-in to the Edward Norton Incredible Hulk movie
11:10isn't mentioned in the same breath,
11:12despite replicating much of what made the PS2 game so iconic.
11:16Thanks to the upgraded power of the PS3,
11:18the destruction the Hulk can leave in his wake
11:20is far more devastating,
11:22and the impact of the Hulk on the environment
11:24feels much more weighted than ever before.
11:26With hundreds of collectibles to upgrade the Hulk's stats,
11:30The Incredible Hulk is the ultimate power fantasy,
11:32allowing players to get stronger as the game progresses
11:35to further destroy the world to their heart's content.
11:38The addition of minigames and countless side quests
11:40can easily distract you for hours,
11:42and the massive Manhattan map
11:44is a blast to explore and destroy.
11:46Ignore the haters and give in to your inner anger.
11:49Hulk Smash!
11:53Let's see which of us is strongest!
11:56Hulk's strongest one there is!
11:58Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga
12:11Lego getting the Star Wars license
12:13was the best thing that happened to them,
12:15and adapting the original six films into Lego
12:17was the perfect blend of fun and nostalgia
12:20for both long-time fans and newcomers to Star Wars.
12:23With all six films, the good ones,
12:25fully playable along with over 160 unlockable and playable characters,
12:30The Complete Saga was a treasure trove
12:32of callbacks, references, and nods
12:34for Star Wars aficionados,
12:36while also being incredibly approachable
12:38for younger players.
12:39Force powers worked wonderfully in the Lego-verse,
12:42allowing players to solve puzzles
12:43with their myriad of abilities
12:44or just causing as much chaos as possible,
12:47especially with the drop-in, drop-out co-op,
12:50which remains some of the best in the Lego games.
12:53The latest Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga
12:55is still great fun,
12:57but there's something more classically fun
12:59about The Complete Saga that can't be beat.
13:08It looks like we got a bit scattered around
13:11after the last dimension hop.
13:13Well, I know what we're gonna do today, Ferb.
13:16What is this?
13:17A Phineas and Ferb game with a platypus?
13:19What's so special about that?
13:21A Phineas and Ferb game with barely the platypus?
13:23You got these two little kids running and jumping around,
13:26glazing all kinds of weird and wacky inventions?
13:28That's my shtick.
13:29I mean, just look at them.
13:31Solving puzzles,
13:32teaming up together to craft stronger weapons
13:34and even wacky inventions like the Carbonator.
13:37I mean, what even is that?
13:38It shoots soda.
13:39What could possibly be the purpose of that?
13:41And oh my, that's really quite effective, isn't it?
13:43And look at that.
13:44He's using special gloves to climb the walls.
13:46Why didn't I think of that?
13:47And hey, look at that.
13:49The world looks just like Danville.
13:50And oh, look at the variety of these worlds.
13:52So impressive.
13:53Goodness.
13:54I know if I was growing up watching Phineas and Ferb,
13:56this is exactly the kind of game I'd want to play.
14:02Curse you, Barry.
14:04Oh, no, sorry.
14:05Curse you, everyone.
14:07Sorry, it's dead.
14:08I'm not used to it still.
14:10Lord of the Rings Conquest.
14:20Remember how awesome it was playing the Lord of the Rings,
14:23The Two Towers and Return of the King back on the PS2?
14:26Somehow, Lord of the Rings Conquest didn't receive the same amount of attention from fans
14:30despite doing an admirable job of recreating the formula
14:33that made those games so memorable and fun.
14:35Combat was deep with the addition of classes
14:38and each class has its own unique skills and abilities in battle.
14:42Players can even temporarily become one of the main heroes from the Lord of the Rings
14:45as you battle your way through the biggest and most iconic conflicts in the series.
14:50An additional campaign that lets players play a
14:52What if Sauron won? style scenario
14:54lets players see the conflict from the other side
14:57and have access to classes traditionally unavailable in these types of games.
15:01Shame it never reached the heights of Mount Doom like the other titles.
15:04Sell at your game!
15:09The Darkness 2
15:10The Darkness 2 is what happens when you don't shut a studio down
15:19after the first game only sells a million copies.
15:22Improving on nearly everything from the original,
15:25the graphics which ditched the gritty realism of the first game
15:27for a cel-shaded noir style closer to the comics
15:30were only the start of the changes made between entries.
15:33The Darkness 2 tells a much tighter supernatural mob story than the first
15:37and skews closer to the source material with a dark sense of humor and over-the-top violence.
15:42The Darkness powers continue to be some of the most fun additions to the traditional first-person shooter
15:47with attacks that feel both brutal and satisfying.
15:50Plus, watching the two heads fight over human hearts is always entertaining.
15:54With a near-perfect playtime,
15:56the game keeps the content rolling with new powers, enemies, and environments
15:59that allow you to unleash the full strength of the Darkness to your heart's content.
16:04Embrace the Dathless Cherokee!
16:10Dathless!
16:11I'm free!
16:15Deadpool
16:15We're gonna pass on your big game idea.
16:19What? He said no!
16:21That was our chance to be in our own video game!
16:23Maybe we shouldn't have written the proposal in crayon.
16:27Deadpool is a difficult character to nail down in video games.
16:31His ability to break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience or interact with the world
16:36has every potential to be game-breaking,
16:38yet his 2013 solo outing, brought to life by the brilliant Nolan North,
16:43managed to nail the character years before Ryan Reynolds became the de facto Deadpool.
16:47Gameplay mostly consists of hack-and-slash, melee, and gunplay,
16:51but Deadpool also has access to increasingly ridiculous weaponry,
16:54which aligns perfectly with his character.
16:56The Deadpool game fully understands how ridiculous the character is and fully embraces it.
17:01routinely speaking directly to the player about the game's scripts,
17:04upgrades, and even through Deadpool's interactions with the many other familiar heroes
17:08roped into cameos in the game.
17:10The Deadpool game is everything fans of the anti-hero could have wanted,
17:14and he wrapped it all up in a nice big package for them.
17:25Batman Arkham Origins
17:34The Black Sheep of the Arkhamverse, Arkham Origins gets a lot of shade simply for not being developed by Rocksteady,
17:41even being completely overlooked from the Arkham Collection.
17:44Origins tells, well, the origins of Bruce in only his second year as Batman,
17:49and how his inexperience as the masked crime fighter leads to some obvious growing pains.
17:53Really the only thing the game lacks compared to the other Arkham titles is Kevin Conroy as Batman,
17:58and Mark Hamill as the Joker.
18:00But, Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker still deliver great performances respectively.
18:04The combat is as solid as you'd expect as a third game utilizing the formula the Arkham series pioneered,
18:10and Origins leans harder into the investigative side of the Dark Knight than any other Arkham game.
18:16Overall, Batman Arkham Origins deserved a lot more recognition than it received at release, and since,
18:21but thankfully the game has become more retrospectively appreciated by longtime fans.
18:33South Park has a pretty storied history with video games, with most being downright terrible.
18:50Somehow, it took almost two decades for the beloved series to get a worthy video game adaptation,
18:55and damn did they nail it.
18:57Not only was the world and characters lifted right off the screen,
19:01but the game's story felt like a lost season with hilarious side quests,
19:04cameos, and collectible callbacks for longtime fans.
19:07It wasn't just the aesthetic that the Stick of Truth nailed either.
19:11Combat was surprisingly deep and engaging,
19:13and simply exploring South Park as an open world for the first time was a joy,
19:18uncovering hidden easter eggs or secrets for fans to find.
19:21The Stick of Truth would be nothing without its controversial humor,
19:24and thankfully the devs and creators didn't hold back.
19:27Even if you're not a fan of South Park,
19:29the Stick of Truth is a worthy RPG all on its own.
19:32And here, of course, is the breathtaking and lovely Princess Kinney,
19:36the fairest maiden in all the kingdom.
19:38Don't ask why Kinney wanted to be a chick,
19:40it's just how he seems to be rolling right now.
19:41Star Wars The Force Unleashed
19:43You were weak when I found you.
19:46Now your hatred has become your strength.
19:51At last,
19:52the dark side is your ally.
19:55We've had countless Star Wars games over the many decades since the franchise began,
20:00but only one game made us truly feel the power of The Force.
20:04The Force Unleashed Starkiller allowed millions of Star Wars fans to live out their fantasies
20:08of wielding some of the most powerful Force abilities,
20:10along with some of the most acrobatic lightsaber combat this side of the prequels.
20:14The story wasn't anything revolutionary,
20:17although the narrative of playing as Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice was at least an interesting angle,
20:21but it was the game's use of Force abilities and lightsaber combat that kept players hooked.
20:26The game was remarkably interactive,
20:28allowing you to use your Force powers on nearly anything that wasn't nailed down,
20:32and The Force Unleashed made you feel like an all-powerful Force wielder
20:36in a way no game in the Star Wars universe had before or since.
20:40He's beaten.
20:42Let it go.
20:43It's a trick.
20:45He's stronger than you know,
20:46and he deserves to die for what he's done to me.
20:49Spider-Man Web of Shadows.
20:51You have it, don't you?
20:52You know what that does to you?
20:54You know how it can change you.
20:58Between the original stories and the deluge of movie tie-ins,
21:02we've had an overabundance of Spidey adventures,
21:04and we took them all for granted,
21:06complaining there were too many Spider-Man games.
21:08And now look,
21:09one every half a decade.
21:11It's likely because of this oversaturation
21:13that Web of Shadows didn't get the appreciation it deserved upon release.
21:17Almost everything about Web of Shadows is as solid as you'd expect
21:20from a mid-2000s Spider-Man game.
21:23The web swinging was peak,
21:24the combat was impactful and snappy,
21:26and a New York overrun by the Venom symbiote
21:28offered not only unique gameplay opportunities,
21:31but also player agency with branching paths.
21:33Web of Shadows even included symbiote versions
21:36of multiple heroes and villains,
21:38giving longtime fans fresh takes on each character.
21:41Web of Shadows deserved far more love than we gave it credit for,
21:44and in retrospect,
21:46might be one of the best Spider-Man games
21:47many have never played.
21:49I got in over my head and I couldn't get out of it,
21:51and then you show up way too early
21:53and I get this huge rush from seeing you.
21:56X-Men Origins Wolverine.
21:57Wolverine.
22:00Everyone calls me Wolverine.
22:03I don't remember other names.
22:06As unquestionably the most popular member of the X-Men,
22:09you would think we'd have as many Wolverine video games
22:11as we do Spider-Man,
22:13but with only a couple tie-in games,
22:15the pickings are pretty slim.
22:17However, the tie-in game for X-Men Origins Wolverine
22:20showed other devs not only how it should be done,
22:22but fans why it's so difficult to nail down the feeling of being Wolverine,
22:27particularly the brutality of Wolverine's combat.
22:30In Origins, players get to unleash the full rage of Wolverine,
22:34slicing and dicing enemies
22:36and really anything unfortunate enough to cross his path,
22:39carving a bloody trail all the way to the credits.
22:42Although the game still mostly follows the disappointing film,
22:45it's the gameplay that fans are here for,
22:47and the gratuitous amounts of blood.
22:49Simply watching Wolverine's wounds heal in real time
22:52is enough to bring a smile to any comic fan's face.
22:55It sure as hell didn't work out like we planned.
22:58That doesn't mean giving up.
23:00This world may be broken.
23:03I've got just the tools to fix it.
