02:27So what do you think are the preferences of the current audience that we have?
02:42Is it about escapism, which is what entertainment is sometimes associated with?
02:49Or are they now into representation and authenticity?
02:54I feel like, Hookup, you can use Hookup simultaneously because unlike before in the night trend, usually
03:00money is a kind of material that is used.
03:05But right now, because everything is, everything all at once.
03:10Everything everywhere all at once.
03:12It sounds like a movie.
03:13But it's all occurring at the same time.
03:16So now there are different trends that are not necessarily related to each other, but they
03:23are sharing the same space.
03:25So I think it also speaks to our representation.
03:29So everyone gets to have a space, gets to have a voice.
03:33Unfortunately for some parts, it's a little bit of a voice.
03:38As in, different personalities on social media gets to have a say.
03:44And we will be talking about that more.
03:45But how about for the two of you?
03:48Yeah, I think, just to elaborate to Mr. Jude, the power to free publish for everyone, I think
03:55Jude, there are different target audiences unlocked.
04:01So we can't really define Jude in like all at once.
04:05The first thing is, Jude, you can now reach out.
04:17It's so accessible.
04:19Tapos you can find the right audience through that.

04:28What I've observed is they really want something relatable.
04:33And to be relatable, you have to be authentic.
04:36You have to speak something real.
04:38Or you have to show them something that is true.

04:52Dili kayo, li should ko ha nilang attention if it's not authentic, if it's not true.
04:58Yeah, I also believe it's a mix of both.
05:01Like, yes, there's escapism because, you know, life can get difficult.
05:04And that's just the reality of the situation sometimes.
05:07But I also believe that at the end of the day, people want to feel represented, want to feel seen,
05:15want to feel like they have some kind of voice.
05:17Especially for communities that have a bit less of a voice and representation.
05:23I feel like stories like this, representation and authenticity really matters.
05:30You seem to be emotional.
05:34You know, it's so sad.
05:37So now this is on the perspective napod of artists.

05:43Because I think you've mentioned also social media.
05:45So that means being a creative is no longer just limited in one medium.
05:53You can go anywhere and everywhere.
05:57On the part of the artists, because there's also the demand and commercialization of the arts.

07:32I know for a fact because I am a musician that mostly ballads are used for pop music.

07:47And then there came a time that people had enough of it.
07:51And then I felt that.
07:52And then I saw how do I make myself relevant again.
07:59So that's it. I decided to focus on theater because it's also one of my passions.

08:10When you choose a material, whether it's a song or a play or a musical,
08:17which would you naturally gravitate?
08:20On the commercial side of it, which is part of the game?
08:24Or you will pick a material that you can connect?
08:30Okay, I think that's always a question that people or artists have these days,
08:35especially with the commercial part or the entrepreneurial part of being an artist.
08:50I was thinking about it because nowadays, it's really a balance of two.
08:57Although if I can't really choose between one,
09:03because yes, I want to work with someone or like I want to be a part of something
09:09that I somehow like trust Najood and I can, like I see it as something reliable.
09:14Before, I believe that Murag, everyone, Manjood, like artists try to,
09:23will this be something that I want to be part of?
09:25And then, the next thing is, if it aligns with something that we want to express.
09:32And as a gay artist, as a musician, openly queer, openly gay,
09:37I would like to ask, yes, hook up the musical is something I want to be part of.
09:42And at the same time, I'm also really familiar with Sir Jude,
09:47as a local artist,
09:53you can't be a local artist if you don't know Sir Jude.

11:05I guess for me,
11:06what really matters for me
11:08is how much I resonate with the pieces first.
11:10I feel like I can't give justice to the material
11:14if I myself don't resonate with it.
11:16So, for example,
11:17I auditioned for the role I currently have
11:19because I really resonated with the characters' themes.
11:23So, first and foremost, it has to resonate with me.
11:26But, of course, you know,
11:28to keep making art,
11:29sometimes we need money.
11:30So, we also need to have something,
11:33like, we also need to balance out
11:35how meaningful it is
11:37with how marketable it can also be.
11:39I think, I'm just reminded,

11:50and being an entrepreneur allows us to sustain

12:04at what point in your career
12:06did you realize that this is one part
12:09you wish to highlight more?
12:12When I got to realize
12:15that my voice as an artist,
12:18it matters to my listeners now,
12:22especially to a lot of people in the LGBT community
12:25who look forward to what I'm going to say,
12:28what I'm going to release.
12:30And honestly,
12:31before I became a part of Hook Up the Musical,
12:33I wasn't really aware yet
12:35of what the story is
12:37until I got to read the script
12:40and I got to talk about it with my co-actors
12:43and I realized that,
12:44oh, this is something bigger than
12:48what I'm thinking about
12:50because really,
12:51my intention was to learn about theater.
12:54My intention was to experience
12:55how to be a theater actor
12:57and grow from there.
13:00When I got to really know
13:03what Hook Up the Musical is about,
13:06I realized that
13:07I really want to be a part of this one
13:11because,
13:13yes, there were a lot of struggles
13:15behind the scenes,
13:15survival-wise,
13:17because I'm not based really in Cebu,
13:19but I really fought for it
13:20because I feel like
13:23it feels fulfilling
13:25to be a part of something important.
13:29And then for Jude,
13:32I captured earlier
13:33that you're into
13:36being authentic
13:38and being real.
13:40I also gathered that
13:41you once left
13:43formal education in music.
13:46Yes.
13:46How important to you...
13:48It was just two sims.

13:51In the College of Music,
13:52in Diliman.
13:53So how important is it
13:55for you
13:56to advance
13:59what you think
14:00a material should be?
14:03Especially when it does not
14:05conform to the traditional
14:06approaches
14:07when it comes to music
14:09or songwriting?
14:11If you factor in
14:13my capabilities,
14:14it's really knowing more
14:16about who I am
14:18and my skills
14:20and my strengths
14:22and weaknesses.
14:23So I will not take on
14:24a project
14:25that I know
14:25I cannot do
14:26or not within
14:28my strengths.
14:29So when I start
14:32on a project,
14:33I make sure
14:34that it's something
14:34that I can commit to.
14:35Especially for a theater project,
14:37it takes a lot of years.
14:39For this one,
14:40it took 10 years.
14:41And then usually,
14:42it's been a long time
14:43for the duration
14:44from inception
14:46to developing the story
14:48to finally bringing in
14:51the other creatives.

15:25and all that.

15:27especially if it's a theater,
15:28it's necessary
15:28because it's an art form.
15:31It's just a participation
15:33to the audience.
15:34So it won't be
15:36a theater experience
15:37if we don't have
15:38an audience.
15:39It's necessary
15:40to be a part of it.
15:41Unlike songwriting,
15:43you can write songs
15:43and just sing it
15:44to yourself
15:44in the bathroom
15:45and that would be fine.
15:46But a theater piece
15:47requires an audience.
15:49So we always
15:50reach out
15:51to our audience
15:52and see if there's
15:53something that we can
15:53improve our show on.

15:55I'm a Broadway fanatic.

16:00but also the process
16:01of producing it,

16:04after Broadway.
16:05So if I'm going to have

16:07you can invest
16:08in stage readings
16:10and workshops
16:11to improve the material.

16:15about the assessment.
16:17What were the materials
16:19in the past
16:20in which you thought
16:21you would have
16:22wanted to do
16:23but you also decided
16:26that this is not
16:28my lane?
