00:01Blackhawks fans know well that is the perfect way to hype up a Chicago crowd.
00:06A home soil World Cup is now just six days away for Team USA.
00:12But today, their focus is firmly on this match against 10th ranked Germany.
00:19Luke Wildman, Kyle Martino, and Melissa Ortiz will have the call.
00:22We will see you at the hand. Enjoy.
00:35The Coca-Cola send-off match on TNT.
00:39There are just 90 minutes of action remaining before the World Cup begins for the United States on Friday against
00:45Paraguay.
00:46And today, here in Chicago, four-time World Champions Germany provide the final test before the tournament.
00:53And in this story venue, Kyle, this crowd has been whipped up into an absolute frenzy.
01:00It just chills right now.
01:01I was 13 years old the last time the World Cup was here, and it changed my life forever.
01:05I'm not a professional soccer player without that tournament.
01:08I don't have a career in soccer without that tournament.
01:10These players have the chance to change millions of lives of kids that are going to see this moment and
01:17think what's possible,
01:18start to dream about what soccer could mean to them.
01:21So this is the last chance you and I get to call a game, and it's been an absolute pleasure.
01:25And then I get to go be a fan and watch this and enjoy it.
01:29The U.S. coming in off a 3-2 win against Senegal a week ago.
01:33Germany were 4-0 winners against Finland before they departed from their game in Mainz last Sunday.
01:40In just six more days, the U.S. will step onto the biggest stage in the global game.
01:45A history-making moment on home soil, unlike anything these players will have experienced before.
01:51But the World Cup send-off game gets underway here against a European powerhouse in Germany,
01:58in the sunshine at Soldier Field in downtown Chicago.
02:02And a lineup you would think that is pretty close to the one that Mauricio Pochettino may well put out
02:07against Paraguay in Game 1.
02:10I absolutely think so. We talked about it in pre-game.
02:12There's only two changes, in my opinion.
02:15I like Tillman, and Pochettino likes Tillman.
02:16I think Berhalter comes into the side to start the first game, and if Richards is fit, that's the only
02:20other change I'd make.
02:22This is not involved in this one today.
02:25Mauricio Pochettino says they're taking it slowly with the recovery to make sure he's okay,
02:29as Irosane was making their way down the right side,
02:33down an early free kick given as the foul came in.
02:35Mecha goes down under the challenge of Tyler Adams.
02:41Germany in form, winning eight in a row and scoring multiple goals in seven of those.
02:47Wins against Switzerland and Ghana in March before that.
02:50Victory against Finland just last Sunday.
02:53And Kimmich can hit a wall.
02:54I mean, this is definitely in shooting range.
02:57Freeze. Freeze needs to be switched on.
03:03Matt Freeze getting the start today after time was split between the two goalkeepers,
03:09Matt Turner and Chris Brady, last week.
03:11Verts, the Liverpool man over at Kimmich, and Sané as well.
03:19Just a little over 90 seconds in here, a set-piece opportunity for Germany.
03:31Sané moves away.
03:33Floated in towards the success box!
03:37And Kai Havertz meets it!
03:40And Germany in front, inside, two minutes in Chicago!
03:51Well, you can tell by his approach to that.
03:56He looked like Havertz was onside, but you could tell by his slow gait and his walk-up.
04:01He's not hitting that one on target.
04:04Just too slow from the U.S.
04:05Freeze needs to cheat off his line, especially as he's starting to see that's not coming on target.
04:11You can see right there.
04:11I mean, on his line, has to come out.
04:14Also, it's just too easy for Havertz.
04:16He was very good in the air.
04:18He's never going to miss from there.
04:20Really poor start from the U.S.
04:21What a free kick that was from Kimmich to just put it right on his head.
04:25A week ago, Kai Havertz was scoring in the Champions League final.
04:29And now, having joined up with his country,
04:33he makes an instant impact here at Soldier Field.
04:36Luke Wildman, Kyle Martino in the broadcast booth.
04:38Melissa Ortiz, pitch side.
04:40Hey, guys, pitch side.
04:42It is already downpouring rain.
04:43Have the umbrella out.
04:45I was just talking to Mauricio Pochettino right before kickoff.
04:48He was stood right next to me, and he said,
04:49what a shame that Chicago's not a FIFA World Cup city to host games.
04:54It's been an awesome city to be at.
04:55The fans, he feels the energy.
04:56Of course, now, just a few minutes in, to concede a goal is going to change a bit.
05:00But now the question is, how the USA is going to respond for the rest of the game?
05:04How are they going to try to dictate if that was the game plan that we talked to Tyler Adams
05:08about
05:08and Mauricio Pochettino about?
05:10But now they have the full game ahead to try to change things around.
05:14And I struggled in the replay to see who the mark was.
05:17And who let Havertz just have that free moment?
05:24You've got to expect that ball, and it was curled perfectly.
05:28There wasn't a lot of height on it, so Fries doesn't have a lot of time to go out.
05:30But if you're going to play a high line like they did and try to hold it,
05:34we'll keep rest achieved.
05:36Germany on the front foot early here, having made two changes to the lineup.
05:39Havertz for Undav is one of them.
05:42Sané for Lennart.
05:43Karl is the other.
05:45Devastating news for him and for this Germany team as the teenage sensation
05:50left yesterday from camp after picking up an injury in training
05:53that has forced him out of the World Cup.
05:55Here's Pulisic down the left side.
05:56He scored in East Hartford, Connecticut the last time these teams met
06:00when Germany won by three goals to one in October of 2023.
06:03And there is Julian Nagelsmann, 38-year-old head coach of Germany,
06:08who is just 74 days older than Tim Rehm.
06:15I don't know who that's more impressive.
06:18Probably Rehm.
06:20Here's Tillman.
06:22Pulisic, for those that watched and those that remember,
06:24he scored a gorgeous goal.
06:25The U.S. had a really good start against Germany,
06:28and it went south as Germany started to switch on.
06:31And the opposite here from the national team getting on the board.
06:34How the U.S. responds is going to mean everything.
06:38And it will be Germany's 21st World Cup appearance.
06:41They're the fourth-time champions.
06:43The last time was 2014, and they open up in Houston against Curaçao
06:47a week from tomorrow.
06:50Miles Robinson heads it back over halfway.
06:53Weston McKennie battling to try and get there in the midfield.
06:56Desk pushing forward as well, but picked up on the far side by Brown.
07:01Daniel Brown, the left-back from Eintracht Frankfurt,
07:03being heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the summer here.
07:07And now Sané down the right side.
07:09And it goes towards the Dortmund man, Mecha, in the midfield.
07:12And picked up here by Pavlovich,
07:14one of the Bayern players in the starting line-up
07:17who come in off a successful season, winning the double.
07:20Mecha once again rolls it through.
07:21Habits couldn't get there, but it comes out for Sané.
07:27Kimmich the captain.
07:31Looks for that ball down the right side,
07:32and Sané will get there at the byline.
07:35Pulled back and knocked it.
07:36But the flag goes up.
07:38Habits denied a second.
07:43Well, a bit fortunate that that downpour happens
07:46because this ball, I mean, it's just gorgeous.
07:49Lovely backdoor run.
07:50It's that skip.
07:51Look how much speed it takes off the turf.
07:54And Kimmich is so good at running the game.
07:58Calm, composed.
08:00Has all sorts of range of passing, spin.
08:04And that's where the wide players for Germany,
08:07especially Sané,
08:07they can just wait for the game to come to them.
08:10Could be a good matchup with he and Anthony Robinson.
08:14Robinson's ball inside towards Tyler Adams.
08:17He got challenged there from Musiala.
08:20Let's take a look at that AT&T net cam.
08:23I think it was...
08:24I think it's Miles Robinson who loses him for a second.
08:27It's just where he heads that ball.
08:29I got Brad Guzan next to me,
08:31and he's taking a look over my shoulder.
08:32Now it's a great free kick.
08:35Brad, what do you think?
08:40Of course, he says a goalkeeper thing needs help from the defenders.
08:44Thanks, Brad.
08:45Did you expect anything else?
08:47And Freeze, you're being nitpicky,
08:49because that ball is as perfect as you'd hit it.
08:51It's not in the air long.
08:52It curls right in the spot,
08:53but just where it is,
08:55I mean, the header's three yards out,
08:57three or four yards out.
08:58Brown racing forward over halfway down that left side.
09:04Sané was in space over on the other side,
09:06and Nagelsmann trying to orchestrate things
09:09on the edge of the technical area
09:10to get them to switch to the right quicker than they did,
09:12but this is Kimmich, the Bayern man,
09:14110th cap today.
09:20And here's the goal scorer at Havertz,
09:22wide out to the left side.
09:30Tillman under pressure here.
09:33And as it goes on the far side for a throw.
09:36You get an early look at how challenging it is
09:39with the wide players.
09:42Veritsen, Sané,
09:43they're holding those wide positions,
09:44but there's so much interchanging,
09:46almost like a top four at times,
09:47occupying a lot of that U.S. back line
09:49and forcing the wingbacks
09:51into those tough positions,
09:52a position that they didn't have to spend
09:54a lot of time in against Senegal.
09:58One of the takeaways that U.S. wanted to work on
10:01is this, is managing transitions,
10:02whether it's offensively or defensively.
10:05And defensively,
10:07somewhat done a little bit better so far,
10:09but they definitely have to keep an eye out, Kyle,
10:11as you say, on those wide players.
10:13That's the biggest challenge.
10:14And offensively, of course,
10:16get on quicker.
10:18We need to see that acceleration
10:19link up with Balot.
10:20We haven't really seen much so far.
10:23The goal scored just one minute and 45 seconds in.
10:27The earliest goal the U.S. has conceded
10:29since giving one up 30 seconds in
10:32against Jamaica in March of 2024,
10:35was the Nations League semi-finals.
10:36They went on to win an extra time.
10:38Getting that level of right at the end of that game
10:40and winning by three goals to one.
10:42Here's Robinson under pressure from Zane
10:44as it goes back in towards Tim Rehm.
10:47Now Adams.
10:49Robinson down the left side,
10:50up towards Christian Pulisic,
10:51who had a goal and an assist a week ago.
10:53The ball over the top,
10:54sees Serginio Dest.
10:56Chasing here.
10:58And that is well defended.
11:01Referee, I think,
11:02was going to give the free kick.
11:03He thought about an advantage,
11:04but it's pulled back here.
11:05Nathaniel Brown.
11:07That was excellent.
11:08I mean,
11:09this transition,
11:10a wonderful ball out
11:12from Robinson.
11:13First time pass there from Pulisic.
11:15The header from Dest,
11:16it definitely cuts into the lane of Brown.
11:18It gives him a better chance to win it,
11:19but Dest had a full head of speed
11:21at maybe a three or four yard start.
11:23Wonderful.
11:24One-on-one defending right there.
11:26A good little sequence there from the U.S.
11:30Just a fifth cap for Brown,
11:32who played 90 minutes last week
11:34against Finland on just his second start.
11:37And here he comes,
11:39pushing forward over halfway.
11:41Germany threatening once again here
11:43as Nathaniel Brown cuts in towards Haberts.
11:45Haberts with a ball across goal!
11:47And Sane couldn't get on the end of it.
11:49I think the flag is up anyway here.
11:53So a free kick for the U.S.
11:5410 minutes in.
11:59You can see it.
12:00The U.S. is just slightly slow
12:03to get numbers around the ball
12:04when those overloads happen
12:05in those wide positions.
12:07Just the talent,
12:09the dynamism of
12:10Werther Mancani on this side.
12:12I mean, one touch.
12:13They've got so much separation.
12:15Obviously, ingenuity
12:16is really important
12:18when the U.S. leaves that back line,
12:19especially when Freeman
12:22is trying to go help
12:23on that side of the field.
12:24I mean, he's going to
12:25see a different player
12:26in his zone,
12:27in his position
12:28every 30 seconds.
12:29There's going to be so much interchanging.
12:30They've got to make sure
12:31they're communicating
12:32and switched on.
12:32back it comes towards Friese.
12:36And the pressure there
12:37from Florian Wurtz.
12:39Friese is able to clear
12:40that one downfield.
12:44It'll be a first World Cup
12:46for Florian Wurtz.
12:47He missed 20-22
12:48with an injury.
12:49Here's Pulisic with the ball forward.
12:50Des just can't quite get there.
12:57The U.S. unable to really threaten
12:59as an attacking force so far.
13:01Tarr with the ball
13:02up towards halfway.
13:03Musiala
13:04skips away from the challenge
13:06of Tillman.
13:06Last time Musiala played
13:08in the United States,
13:10he had that serious injury
13:11in the quarterfinal
13:13of the Club World Cup
13:14in Atlanta.
13:15Friese coming a long way
13:17and gets the clearance
13:18downfield.
13:19I think Balogun
13:19was coming back
13:20from an offside position
13:21and the flag does go up now.
13:30Metcha.
13:34Pulisic picks it up here
13:36just inside his own half.
13:37This is Tillman
13:38through towards McKennie
13:39and Pulisic here
13:40for the United States.
13:41He's got Balogun
13:42to the left side.
13:43Dest is in the box.
13:44Balogun's ball in
13:45and Dest couldn't get there.
13:47Dest fresh off his goal
13:48scoring appearance
13:51a week ago.
13:53Cutting in once more
13:54to that six-yard box
13:55but this time
13:56couldn't make the connection.
13:57Yeah, look at Dest.
13:58He starts making that run
13:59right now.
14:00Ball's just a little bit
14:01ahead of him.
14:02It's a wonderful idea
14:03from Balogun.
14:05We saw Dest score
14:06from that position
14:06last game.
14:07I mean,
14:08when they're down 1-0,
14:11Dest almost an inverted
14:12winger.
14:12I mean, if he had no idea
14:13what position he was
14:14supposed to play
14:15and how they were
14:15starting with and
14:16without the ball
14:17and his willingness
14:19to get forward
14:19is obviously encouraged
14:20by the coaching staff.
14:22He said this week
14:23he's always been
14:24really confident
14:24about his own abilities
14:26but that goal last week
14:27just gave him the boost
14:28he needed
14:28and a timely boost
14:29as well heading
14:30into the World Cup
14:32for Serginio Dest.
14:36Dest starting all four games
14:37in Qatar
14:38and assisted on
14:39Pulisic's goal
14:40against Iran
14:41in the group stage
14:42in the group stage
14:43of that tournament.
14:48Serginio Dest
14:48one of six players
14:49from the 2022 World Cup squad
14:51that starts the game today.
14:54I think the cheers
14:54are because the sun
14:55has come back out here
14:57at Soldier Field
14:58and that early Havertz goal
14:59took a little bit
15:00of the energy
15:00out of the building
15:01which as we said before
15:03had been whipped up
15:04into a frenzy
15:05with the flags
15:08the appearance
15:08from the 94 World Cup stars
15:11on the pitch as well.
15:14It's a great little touch
15:15as well.
15:16They had them all waiting
15:16at halfway
15:17when the U.S. players
15:18came out for warm-ups
15:19and they ran
15:20and met all the players
15:22from 94 as well.
15:24Incredible changing
15:25of the guard.
15:26I got to play
15:26with a lot of the 94 guys
15:27and they did so much
15:29for the game.
15:30How wonderful
15:30that group is here
15:32to send them off.
15:33Is that how old
15:34you are, Carl?
15:37I'm old.
15:38What gave it away?
15:39The gray hair?
15:40Hey, at least you have hair.
15:44Hey, don't go at peace
15:45like that.
15:46End prep.
15:47Well, I automatically
15:49assumed it
15:49that was Brad
15:49to be honest with you
15:50but Beast fits as well.
15:55It's been a good response
15:56from the U.S.
15:57I think Pochettino
15:58will like that.
15:58Obviously, you know,
15:59one set piece,
16:00it's one switch off,
16:00one moment.
16:02But they've come back
16:03and they've calmed
16:03the game down.
16:04They've been pressing
16:05the ball as a unit better.
16:06Obviously, playing through.
16:07Germany's pressure better.
16:09Good response.
16:11Reem here at the back,
16:12the 38-year-old
16:12up towards halfway.
16:13Rolls it into the left.
16:15Channel for Robinson
16:16to chase.
16:17Anthony Robinson here
16:18up against Kimmich.
16:20Robinson to the byline,
16:21off the boot of Kimmich
16:22it goes.
16:22It's the first corner
16:23for the United States here.
16:25Comes in the 15th minute
16:26at Soldier Field.
16:30Green, one of the reasons
16:31he's here.
16:32He's just play out of the back.
16:34He's excellent
16:34against Senegal.
16:35He's just so good.
16:36There was a little
16:36deceptive fake pass
16:37centrally.
16:38Overhit the ball
16:39to Robinson a little bit.
16:41Anthony Robinson
16:42towards Dest
16:43on the edge of the box
16:43and Dest goes for goal.
16:45The ball was rising.
17:04Oliver Baumann in goal
17:05for Germany
17:06turned 36 last week
17:07the Hoffenheim man.
17:09But every minute
17:10of all six in World Cup
17:12qualifying
17:12and then all of a sudden
17:13when you think
17:14you're the number one
17:15back comes Manuel Neuer
17:16who isn't fit yet
17:18isn't involved
17:19here today
17:20from the start.
17:22This is Balogun
17:22down the left side
17:24up against Tar.
17:25Balogun
17:25trying to create
17:26some space.
17:27Balogun
17:27that takes the deflection
17:28and out for a second
17:29US corner here.
17:31Listen to the crowd.
17:34We saw this in training
17:37Luke the other day.
17:38They were working
17:38some attacking sequences
17:40and Balogun
17:41a few times
17:41just incredible
17:43change of speed.
17:44I love that.
17:45Just thinking
17:46go at goal
17:47gets a corner out of it.
17:49He scored in three
17:50of his four starts
17:51under Maurizio Pochettino.
17:53Flo Balogun
17:53this is Pulisic.
17:54Plenty of space
17:55here for Tyler Adams
17:57and across it goes
17:58for Dest.
18:03Some sustained pressure
18:05here inside the final
18:06third for the US
18:07for the first time here.
18:08That soldier field
18:09as Robinson goes
18:10wide to the left
18:11for Pulisic.
18:13Christian Pulisic
18:15plays that cross in.
18:16Riem
18:16couldn't quite get there.
18:17Balogun was close as well.
18:19Back out.
18:20It comes towards Tyler Adams.
18:21Here's Anthony Robinson
18:22and the Fulham man
18:23across for Dest once more.
18:25Germany with everybody
18:26back behind the ball
18:27right now.
18:36Robinson.
18:36Tilly Robinson
18:37wide to the right side
18:38as the header
18:39comes back across
18:39towards Balogun.
18:41He couldn't quite get there.
18:42Balogun will chase.
18:44Dest.
18:46Freeman cutting in
18:47from the right
18:47touchline there.
18:49And still going.
18:51And this is Tillman.
18:56Dest now down
18:56the right touchline.
19:01On the way through
19:01for Balogun there
19:02as Germany looked
19:03to get it away
19:03down the far side
19:04but they might have
19:05turned possession over here.
19:06Good backlink from Balogun.
19:07This is Serginio Dest.
19:09Slides it through
19:09and the cross from McKennie.
19:11Purser couldn't meet it
19:12in the air.
19:13Picked up by Freeman
19:15once again.
19:15This is good
19:16from the United States.
19:18And Anthony Robinson
19:19just couldn't quite
19:20make his way through.
19:26We talked pregame
19:27about the importance
19:28of the U.S.
19:29to get in these
19:30attacking postures
19:31to be calm
19:31to be composed
19:32on the ball
19:32because in the heat
19:33the counter pressing
19:34is going to be
19:35way more effective
19:36when they're the ones
19:36forcing Germany
19:37out of their positions.
19:41It's the counter press
19:42and also the quick
19:42transitions that
19:43not only Senegal
19:44had in the last game
19:45but Germany is sure
19:46doing in this game.
19:50Sané brings it down
19:51up against Anthony Robinson.
19:53Sané's ball in
19:54headed away
19:55by Miles Robinson
19:56and Dest
19:56volleys it out
19:58into touch
19:58on the far side.
19:59Five of the eleven
20:00for Germany today
20:01were in the
20:022022 World Cup squad.
20:05Including that man there
20:07Leroy Sané
20:08who now plays
20:08for Galatasaray
20:1076th cap today
20:11for the 30-year-old
20:13who has 16
20:13international goals.
20:20United States
20:21opening up
20:22next Friday
20:23against Paraguay
20:24in L.A.
20:25June 12th
20:26the date.
20:29Alligan putting pressure
20:30on here
20:31as it's cleared
20:31downfield by Bauman.
20:33Paraguay winning
20:344-0 against
20:35Nicaragua yesterday
20:36but they lost
20:37Julio Nciso
20:38to injury
20:39who will
20:40almost certainly
20:41now be out
20:42of the first game
20:42maybe more
20:45but if you thought
20:45this was a frenzy
20:46by the way
20:46you should have
20:47seen the scenes
20:47in Paraguay
20:48last night
20:49as they
20:50had slightly more
20:51flares and smoke
20:54to send off
20:55that team
20:55and fireworks
20:56and all the things
20:56that you wouldn't get.
20:57No such thing
20:57as friendlies now.
21:02Head coach of Germany
21:03Julian Nagelsmann
21:03is definitely not
21:04happy with that cause.
21:05Yeah we can hear him.
21:09and so can the
21:10fourth official
21:10very much
21:11right in his ear
21:15the goal coming
21:16inside the first
21:17two minutes
21:17scored by
21:18Kai Havertz
21:19who became
21:19just the second
21:20player to score
21:21in two Champions League
21:23finals
21:23for two different
21:24clubs
21:26Mandzukic and
21:27Ronaldo
21:27the other two
21:29he did it
21:30with Arsenal
21:31in that game
21:31against PSG
21:32and he also
21:33did it with Chelsea
21:34in a game
21:35that Christian Pulisic
21:36was involved in
21:37when they beat
21:37Manchester City
21:38in the Champions League
21:39final
21:39Havertz and Pulisic

21:45riding down
21:46that left side

21:48Virts
21:51easiest of seasons
21:52for Florian
21:53Virts
21:53in his introduction
21:54to the Premier League
21:55with Liverpool
21:55across now
21:56for Kimmich

22:24to face Ivory Coast
22:25and they finish
22:26the group stage
22:27against Ecuador
22:28in New Jersey
22:30they've failed to
22:31advance from the
22:32group in the last
22:33two World Cups
22:34since winning it
22:34all in 2014
22:36Ream steps in
22:37Miles Robinson
22:38back towards
22:38Matt Freeze
22:49slotter back at the
22:50back the 26 year old
22:51Dortmund defender
22:56Germany's
22:56Germany's third game
22:58in New Jersey
22:59against Ecuador
23:00is going to be
23:00a sea of yellow
23:01for all of the
23:02Ecuadorians that live
23:03in New Jersey
23:03that one's definitely
23:04going to be an exciting
23:05matchup
23:05two strong teams
23:06Ecuador of course
23:07being second
23:08in World Cup
23:08qualifiers
23:09in Colmey
23:09they're definitely
23:11a dark horse
23:11to go far
23:12in the World Cup
23:18Ta
23:19one slash
23:20Slotter back
23:20at the back
23:20this is Kimmich
23:28US coming more
23:29into the game
23:30as the half
23:30goes on
23:30after a very
23:31dominant start
23:32from Germany
23:32they made the US
23:33pay
23:33with the goal
23:34from Havertz
23:35from the set piece
23:36heading in
23:37pass freeze
23:42now space
23:42for the midfield
23:44as it's rolled
23:44forward towards
23:45Sané
23:46Sané's ball
23:47into the back
23:47post
23:47no one able
23:48to get on
23:48the end
23:49of it
23:50as we approach
23:51the hydration
23:52break here
23:54we'll see if
23:54Maurizio Pochettino
23:55gets his laptop
23:56back out
23:56we just saw
23:57there Nagelsmann
23:57about to get
23:58his whiteboard
23:59out
24:00a little less
24:00technical
24:01called the Maurizio Pochettino
24:02the old crayons
24:04and the whiteboard
24:04different areas
24:04of technology
24:15so a good response
24:16from the United States
24:17Kyle
24:18absolutely
24:19and
24:21listen
24:21it's
24:22it's gonna be
24:22tough
24:23because
24:25when the caliber
24:26goes up
24:27Senecal
24:27had a few moments
24:28where they looked
24:29good on the ball
24:29and you can just
24:30see today
24:30the caliber
24:31a little bit higher
24:32if you're late
24:34with your marks
24:34if you've just switched
24:35off for a second
24:36it only takes
24:37that moment
24:39for some of the best
24:40teams in the World Cup
24:41to punish you
24:41we'll take a look
24:42back at that goal
24:45and it's
24:45it's a wonderful ball
24:46in from Kimmich
24:47and they're
24:49at this point
24:51you can see
24:52where the ball
24:53is headed from
24:53now
24:54of course
24:56Robinson has to do
24:57better with his mark
24:57but you just wonder
25:00if Freeze can go out
25:02and make a play
25:03on that
25:04but anyway
25:05you slice it
25:05it can't be that easy
25:07that early on
25:09especially when you think
25:10about the first game
25:11the World Cup
25:11and the statistics
25:12of how many teams
25:13go out
25:14and how hard it is
25:14to stay in a tournament
25:15when you don't get a win
25:16in that first game
25:18and you get a zero
25:19in that first game
25:19things change
25:20dramatically fast
25:21just early on
25:22in the tournament
25:23set pieces
25:24moments of transition
25:25just being hyper
25:27switched on
25:27is going to be critical
25:29but Pochettino will love
25:30the response he's seen
25:31from his team
25:32since that moment
25:32five days until
25:34the World Cup begins
25:35with Mexico
25:36taking on
25:37South Africa
25:38and the Azteca
25:39six days until
25:40the US first game
25:41this today
25:42Maurizio Pochettino's
25:4426th match
25:45in charge
25:46the most recent game
25:48last weekend
25:48in Charlotte
25:49there's a great atmosphere
25:50there as well
25:50in Charlotte
25:51last weekend
25:51a 3-2 victory
25:52against Senegal
25:53Dest, Pulisic
25:54and Balogun
25:55with the goals
25:56Mane had scored
25:57twice
25:58tied at 2-2
26:05Senegal were ranked
26:06number 14
26:07Uruguay were ranked
26:08number 15
26:09when the teams
26:10met in November
26:10and the US
26:11won by five goals
26:12to one
26:13under Maurizio
26:14Pochettino
26:15they've won
26:15two of the four games
26:16they've played
26:17against teams
26:18inside the FIFA
26:19for top 15
26:20Germany
26:21without doubt
26:22the toughest test
26:23here
26:23ranked number 10
26:35and the US
26:36will go across
26:36to the far side
26:37to get things
26:37started once again
26:38here
26:45first ever meeting
26:46between these nations
26:47was right here
26:48at Soldier Field
26:49in 1993
26:50Germany winning
26:51by four goals
26:52to three
26:53JĂ¼rgen Klinsmann
26:54got one
26:54Carl Heinz
26:55Riedler hat-trick
26:56for Germany
26:57as well
26:58Thomas Dooley
26:59with a couple
27:00and Ernie Stewart
27:01for the US
27:02as well
27:03great names
27:04to remember
27:04to remember
27:05from both sides
27:05there
27:07here's Dest
27:11was he fouled
27:12no
27:13Dest asking
27:14the referee
27:15Piero Maso
27:16of Chile
27:17the 41 year old
27:18from Santiago
27:18to give him
27:19the free kick
27:20but he waved away
27:21the appeals
27:22it's Maso's
27:23first US men's
27:24national team
27:25game as a referee
27:26into the midfield
27:27for Pavlovich
27:36Musiala goes down
27:37under the challenge
27:38and this time
27:39the decision
27:39does go the way
27:41of Germany
27:41but for a previous
27:42foul
27:48I think it was
27:48Weston that slid
27:50in on that first
27:53ball of the sequence
28:03here's a look
28:04at it
28:06just catches
28:07Brown doesn't he
28:07don't mind that
28:08aggression too
28:09you know
28:09you have to start
28:10sending a message
28:11seen a few times
28:12where players have
28:13been a little bit
28:13late to press the
28:14ball
28:14you know
28:14a hand
28:15check
28:16just letting
28:17Germany know
28:18that there's
28:18presence there
28:18there's
28:19confrontation
28:19there
28:21every now and
28:22then you do
28:23sliding a little
28:24late like that
28:24just to get a
28:25breather
28:25because the game
28:26has been very
28:26high paced
28:27and it is very
28:28hot
28:29picked up by
28:29Sané here
28:30gets away from
28:31Tillman
28:31Ream comes in
28:32with a challenge
28:32and wins the
28:33ball
28:33great challenge
28:34there to get
28:35it back
28:36for the US
28:36and go across
28:38towards Freeze
28:39Freeze clears
28:40down the right
28:40side
28:43that counterpress
28:44by Germany
28:45is suffocating
28:46but USA
28:47is fighting
28:48and doing
28:48and the fan
28:49is actually
28:49the fans are
28:50clapping the way
28:51that USA
28:51was able to get
28:52out of that
28:52dangerous situation
28:53Kyle you mentioned
28:54when it comes to
28:55sending that message
28:56and it has to be
28:57like that healthy
28:58balance between
28:59of course that
29:00aggression
29:00sending that
29:01nice tackle
29:02to know the
29:02presence
29:03but also
29:03hey the World Cup
29:04is just a few
29:05days away
29:05so you're protecting
29:06not only your
29:07teammates but also
29:08in the same way
29:09you know we've been
29:09in this position
29:10before a World Cup
29:11where you also want
29:12to show respect
29:13to the opponent
29:13and not injure
29:14another player
29:15so it's finding
29:16that healthy balance
29:19Tillman
29:23Robinson
29:23on cap number
29:2454
29:25is Pulisic
29:32now Tyler
29:33Adams
29:35Adams just
29:36continues to play
29:37got straight back
29:38up after the
29:38challenge from
29:39Havertz
29:39despite the
29:40appeals from
29:40the crowd
29:41more than
29:41anything else
29:42that he should
29:42have got a
29:43free kick
29:43there
29:43and match
29:44it in the
29:44midfield
29:52Ta
29:54Metro once
29:54again
29:59Kimmich
29:59trying to get
30:00away from
30:00Balogun here
30:01and that
30:01will be a
30:02free kick
30:03in fact the
30:04referee played
30:05on for a
30:05moment because
30:06Kimmich was so
30:07effective at
30:07escaping the
30:08challenge
30:08you
