00:00First out of Central Texas project how do you micromanage a project that I can't touch feel and be 10
00:06minutes away from wow it's tight this is a zero bedroom house we're partnering with someone here in this local
00:13ecosystem the fireplace has me up at night
00:19Chip had this fun idea to let Ella tackle the little cottage as her first design project it feels like
00:27this beautiful full circle moment
00:28what fits through a window that small he was a good-sized bear I knew you were gonna say bear
00:33wow this place I'm in a Bob Ross painting
00:36love me some hope
00:50Hey cutie hi
00:52Yes, I bought my coffee
00:54I added some coffee to your cream chilling with the puppies
00:59We've got four dogs that are in line of sight and we're missing a few dogs
01:04Well we are I think we're missing four
01:05Even though we have kids and all these puppies at the farm it does feel like it's just a quieter
01:11season for us
01:12I think the idea that the past 10 years has just felt so fast and furious with
01:16Man the business
01:18Fixer, Magnolia, the kids growing so fast
01:21And in a couple years the oldest four will be out of the house
01:24And it's made Chip and I think more about the future and how do we keep this connection as a
01:31family
01:32Obviously the farm will always be our central place
01:35But the thing that we have loved as a family is skiing
01:46We started skiing I think 2016 with the family and now every year we've gone back to the mountains
01:51It has become our thing
01:52I wonder is it the mountains that we love or is it just the nostalgia that I feel that I
01:57grew up doing it
01:58So I sort of want my family to
01:59Chip grew up skiing
02:00I did not grow up skiing
02:02Just that change of scenery is really nice
02:04Yeah and the snow
02:05We don't get a lot of snow in Texas
02:07Every time we've gone to the mountains Chip has always peeled out one day where we go look at real
02:11estate just for fun
02:12He always
02:13We always love dinner no matter where we go
02:15No matter where we're at
02:15Yeah
02:15I would say Chip's dream has always been perched high on the mountain with the view all around
02:22My dream has always been at the bottom of the mountain
02:25I want the little house above the clouds up on the hill
02:27I'm a valley girl I'm not a mountain top person
02:29But it would be a dream to have a place where we could all go together
02:32Not only our immediate family but our parents, our sisters, their families
02:37You know I think I found the house
02:39Why this house?
02:40It's been on the market for a while so it just feels like the timing is really right for me
02:45to potentially make a really good deal on this property
02:48I like that you're excited about it
02:50Well we're going to go check it out
02:53Cheers
02:54Cheers
02:55Dink
02:57Babe you don't have to say dink
02:58You know the glasses do that kind of thing
03:01Dink
03:01This is fun
03:10So we're in the beautiful state of Colorado and it's winter
03:14Gorgeous day babe
03:15Look at this
03:16But this feels like I want to get outside
03:17Be in the sun, be in the snow
03:19But you really don't
03:21You are just thinking about me skiing
03:23But guess who may ski?
03:25Who?
03:26Jojo
03:26Stop
03:26Now I'm not going to guarantee it
03:29I'm not going to sign anything
03:30Lies
03:30But I'm just saying I'm willing to try it
03:33Lies
03:33I'm willing to try it
03:34Pinky promise
03:36Alright we'll see
03:39We'll see
03:39Okay babe
03:40I'm pretty convinced that this might be the deal that we've been looking for
03:44You know I think for me the reservation has always been if we were to get a second home somewhere
03:50outside of Waco
03:51I want it to feel like something that I put together for my family
03:55So how do we tackle a renovation project outside of Texas?
04:00It's going to be exciting
04:01We're getting close
04:02Look at the mountains
04:04Look at the woods
04:05So now we're going down
04:06You notice
04:09Alright here we go
04:12This is the house
04:14Well the main house is basically just a little bit further into the woods here
04:19But cottage number one
04:21And cottage number two
04:22But what's the first impression to be totally honest?
04:25Um
04:27I'm going to explain it
04:28Uh oh
04:28You hate it
04:30What?
04:32Oh babe
04:35I'm surprised by this
04:37It's because every listing you've shown me is a view
04:40Yeah
04:40And this is
04:41Gosh tucked away and hidden
04:43Wait till you see it babe
04:44Come on
04:45You ready to check it out?
04:46Yes
04:46Okay
04:49I didn't wear the right shoes
04:53Now I know how Hansel and Gretel felt
04:56That's what it feels like
04:57Chip that sun coming in
04:58Those birds
05:00Okay babe
05:01The main house has two bedrooms
05:03Two and a half baths
05:04A wrap around deck
05:06Two additional guest cottages
05:08Plus access to the river
05:10I love the light fixtures
05:11I love the front door
05:12Look at the door babe
05:14I want to go see this thing
05:15Okay here we go
05:19Hey what do you think about the little foyer?
05:21I like a distinct entry
05:22Yeah
05:23Like I can imagine all the boots
05:25All the like making this really functional but cute
05:27On this level there's a sitting room off the entry
05:30A galley kitchen
05:31A giant living space
05:33A deck and an office
05:35I love this fireplace
05:37Wow
05:37These floors are awesome
05:39Love the floors
05:40But I
05:40What do you think about the ceilings
05:42And the beams
05:42I like the beams
05:42It's cool the fireplace is there but I wish it was in here
05:47Like this is huge
05:48I know
05:49Like this is too big
05:50I think this was their ballroom
05:52I think they had a formal ballroom in this house
05:55But for such a big space the windows on that wall are tiny
05:59All right come on let's go check out the kitchen
06:06It's small
06:08I love this but that's not going to be a big enough range
06:12The way you build everything out of the kitchen this would be tough
06:15It feels like too small for our family and all the cooking that I love to do
06:20So we would either have to go this way with this kitchen to give us the opportunity to really make
06:26this space work
06:27Or we've got to figure out another place in the house
06:30I'm going to keep looking
06:32Let's go see the office and then that's it
06:34I'm going to see the river and you can do whatever you want
06:38Hmm
06:40Oh
06:42Wow it's tight
06:43I mean it's 12 by 12
06:45So I was thinking this could be the primary but there's no closet or bathroom
06:50It's almost like built for a family with no kids because you really have one or two bedrooms
06:54And then they would use this as like a study
06:57Would you be fine with this being the primary?
07:00This size?
07:01I guess I would what do you say?
07:03I feel like I just have to get creative but I want to see what else is happening
07:07I want to see the river and the more you talk the dizzier I'm getting
07:12You're actually making me kind of dizzy but you go check the river out
07:16I want you to see this is the bathroom
07:17Look at this
07:19There's no shower
07:20Stay open-minded babe don't forget a second ago you cried good tears
07:25So I felt like we had this like emotional high when we pulled in
07:28But then we stepped into the house and I was like happy feeling feeling started leaving the room for sure
07:33And I think it was more like oh now I'm trying to force something that may just not be right
07:38On the lower level there's another small sitting room two bedrooms and two bathrooms
07:43Okay, so this is another bedroom still no closet and no bathroom
07:49So this really technically speaking isn't a bedroom and it's small
07:54So I've got two people here two folks here that's four
07:57And then trying to figure out this bathroom situation
08:03Feels like a really large bathroom you have your toilet really good shower
08:07Double vanity with a lot of countertop space this is pretty but I must feel like the bathroom feels bigger
08:13than the bedroom
08:14And then down here there's a nice walk-in closet
08:18See what else we've got
08:27Look at that it's almost straight up
08:31This is speed
08:35Another massive bathroom double vanity
08:38You have a soaking tub you have a shower you know my kids are funny they don't actually need this
08:43much space for a bathroom
08:45So now I'm like it could this be a bedroom?
08:48I don't know
08:49I really can't get my head around a full bedroom because there's not really a bathroom or a closet in
08:55any of them
08:55It's like everything feels hard and I don't know how we'd function in this space
08:59Because we're just a bigger family
09:02Okay, another sitting room off a fireplace
09:04It's like this now reminds me of right when you walked into the house you see that fireplace I can
09:08only imagine the fireplace is right above it
09:10It's literally like a copy and paste
09:13Chip mentioned this room the couple used as their bedroom
09:17So I think this is what they were calling the primary
09:20This is where I see my family is like down here where we're playing games you have that beautiful view
09:25So to me this is a zero bedroom house that Chip has found
09:31This is their closet
09:33Oh my goodness
09:37So this closet is enormous and this is where things start unlocking for me
09:43I have all this space to work with
09:45What else can I create?
09:47So this is where I'm thinking this is where most of my kids could sleep
09:50So this can then become the bunk room, a bathroom
09:53They step out into the living room
09:56So let me do my math
09:57I've got four down here now
09:59Two can sleep in that bedroom
10:00That's six people can be down here
10:02Two people upstairs, that's eight
10:04There's seven people in our family
10:05I'm gonna go find Chip
10:09Wow
10:11Would you look at this?
10:14What a dream
10:19Now I can see the river, holy cow
10:23Hi Chip!
10:24Joe you've gotta see this!
10:26I see the river and I feel like there's like more reason to want this place
10:31And I found
10:33It's possible for eight people to sleep in this house
10:38In my mind I'm just stubborn enough to where if I feel like it's for us
10:43I'm gonna make it work
10:45Hey Chip, I wanna see the cottages too
10:48Babe, it's like heaven down there
10:51It's like each unit I'm seeing
10:53It's adorable
10:54Seems like the main house could work
10:56And these additional cottages would give us even more space for guests and family
11:00Like our parents
11:01Alright, let's check it out
11:03I love these little stones
11:04Look at the rocking chairs
11:06That's where you'll find me
11:08Oh, babe, this feels literally like a let's paint it
11:12Tiny, cool kitchenette
11:14It's got the butcher block
11:15It's got these plaster walls you've got
11:17The tongue and groove ceiling
11:19It's like when the kids get older and they've got a family of their own
11:22They stay here and you know and then you just use the main house
11:25It's like the headquarters
11:27You've got all the options
11:29Little bedroom
11:30Like this all feels easy
11:33Joey!
11:33Oh my gosh
11:34You went that way?
11:36Yeah, let's see
11:36Okay, sorry
11:38Okay, you go that way and I'll go this way
11:40What?
11:41This is perfect
11:43Wow, this is a little light
11:45And this tile definitely needs an update
11:47This is kind of just like a let's paint wallpaper
11:50A little refresh
11:51Alright, let's go check out the tiniest of the three
11:58Okay, this is adorable
12:00Whoa, this is awesome
12:02Look at this, babe
12:04Wow
12:04Could I put like a queen mattress up there?
12:07Seems like it's big enough
12:08I kept the best for last
12:11Oh my goodness
12:12Look at this tiny little kitchenette
12:15Shower
12:15Okay, so there's a full bath
12:17This is perfect for me
12:18I mean this
12:19So the equivalent of like the shoe shit
12:21I'll find you here
12:23Yes
12:24I love it, Chip
12:26Yes!
12:26Out of all the properties in your entire career
12:30Well done
12:31Wow!
12:33What?
12:33Well done
12:34You need to just hurry up and buy it
12:37I would say the only thing that really does feel like a reservation for Joe and I
12:41Is just the idea of doing a project of this magnitude outside of the Central Texas area
12:46I can't imagine, well how do you micromanage a project that I can't touch, feel, and be 10 minutes away
12:52from?
12:52I think we've landed on the idea of partnering with someone here in this local ecosystem that knows the greatest
12:59plumbers and knows the best electricians and they can kind of be our eyes and ears while we're, you know,
13:05headquartered out of Waco, Texas
13:06I love it, I don't want to sit here and chat too much longer because it is on the market
13:11and I don't want you
13:12Let me get after it
13:13Missing the opportunity
13:13Let me get after it
13:14Okay, I'm gonna go back inside, I'm gonna start dreaming
13:16Adios
13:22Babe, you gotta call the realtor
13:23Okay, I'm gonna go call him right now
13:25I love you, babe
13:26Good job
13:27No, you good job
13:28Look at the dog
13:29Hi puppy
13:30Please don't eat us
13:36It's been about a month since we first saw the mountain house and Chip has closed the deal
13:41So we're back in Colorado, the kids are here with us, so we wanted to come straight to the house
13:47They were seeing it for the first time, the kids love the river, a little tricky to get down
13:51We got a rental nearby and the kids did some skiing
13:57Today, Chip and I wanted to come to the property and to walk through the final plans for how we're
14:02gonna transform the main house
14:03And our new local contractor is gonna stop by
14:06Okay, how we doing?
14:08It looks and like feels different now that it's ours
14:10I know
14:11Things are starting to get real
14:13I want to go into what's going to be the primary suite, but right now is the office
14:18This wall goes
14:19Ooh, demo
14:20Okay, this is what I'm gonna turn into the primary bedroom, but it needs a bathroom and a closet
14:26All this will kind of be pushed into the hallway and into the bathroom
14:31So it just gives you a little more breathing room in here
14:33So you've got an opening here, shower, double vanity, tub, closet, water closet
14:38But the guests, how do they have a restroom?
14:42You read my mind, it's right here
14:45It's right here
14:46Do you remember what's on the other side of this?
14:48Kitchen
14:48We're taking that all out and adding a much larger kitchen in the living room
14:52Now this becomes a little powder bath
14:54There's a toilet, a little corner sink
14:56It's tight, but it's nice because our guests have a place
14:59So the railing goes
15:01This railing goes?
15:03Uh-huh
15:07Baby, don't fall down the stairs
15:09Go
15:10I don't want to be a part of this
15:11When you go places, what is that exactly?
15:15Unbelievable
15:16Well
15:18I'm glad I got to demo that stair rail
15:21Oh
15:22Yeah, that really felt great
15:23We're done
15:24I wouldn't like demo at all
15:25It was like dim, eh
15:29You won't do that in every room when I say that's going away
15:32Or else
15:33I'm just trying to be efficient here
15:34We've only got so many hours
15:35We live in Waco
15:36Because from Jo's perspective, this isn't drastically different
15:39I mean, a lot of the things that she does with a project happens on a screen or in an
15:44office
15:44It's kind of me that's getting left out of the process to some extent
15:48You demoed that railing like a champ
15:51It's fine to take a break
15:56We're going to take the kitchen out
15:58So you come around here
15:59See how this is?
16:00Here's our little half bath
16:00Yeah, I got it
16:01This all goes away
16:02And then this will be a wood-burning stove
16:05And then this will just become shelving for books
16:07Okay
16:08This becomes a little built-in bench moment
16:11Cool
16:12So this is like a little reading room
16:14And this is our bathroom
16:15We'll add a wall here, tub by the windows, and a double vanity
16:19So when you think about opening up that bedroom that we were just in's wall
16:24This is all for the primary bath
16:25I mean, that's going to double the size of that space
16:28I know
16:28I mean, the bathroom's going to be as big as the bedroom
16:30Right
16:31Okay, keep coming
16:32Okay
16:33This is like a little sitting room
16:35And then basically our living room starts here
16:38I would not touch these floors
16:40Okay, great
16:41What's going to happen in here is
16:43This whole space is going to become a large open kitchen
16:46That will fit all of our kids plus the extended family
16:48This is going to be a fridge, cabinetry, range, vent hood, countertops
16:53And then your double ovens
16:55Right down the middle
16:56I'm thinking a long, beautiful table instead of an island
16:59And then on the other side there's sink, cabinets, dishwasher
17:03So it'll feel balanced
17:04Awesome
17:05While I'm cooking or whatever, I want y'all to be like off the kitchen
17:08Y'all are playing a game
17:09We're going to add two chairs here
17:11Coffee table, sofa
17:13We'll add floor to ceiling windows to bring in more light
17:17And then where you're standing
17:19Moving those fringe doors over
17:21And adding a small little wood burning stove
17:24But when you think about sitting around a beautiful fireplace
17:27It's not a potbelly stove
17:29When I think about a room like this
17:31I think about a big fireplace on the end of this wall
17:34I, yeah
17:34You want a focal point?
17:36Yeah
17:36I thought the potbelly stove was cute because it was minimal
17:40I was doing the wood burning because it
17:42Is it strange at all to have that big of a focal point right next to that big of a
17:46focal point?
17:47I don't think so
17:47I just want to make sure it's possible
17:49I've heard there's concrete here
17:51Maybe it's not concrete
17:53Hey guys
17:54Hey
17:54How are you?
17:55Perfect timing
17:56Perfect
17:56I was going to say
17:56Your ears may have been burning
17:58Were you saying good things?
17:59Yeah
17:59Hi, nice to meet you in person
18:02Steve's going to be the GC here in Colorado
18:04And he has decades of experience doing renovations in this area
18:07So he's going to be our connection point in partnering with us to get this project finished
18:11We were just debating
18:12We've got this big amazing room
18:14It's just almost like we've decided on a fireplace that points in this direction
18:18I mean, does this seem complicated and problematic?
18:21I don't think it'd be problematic, I think it would be totally doable
18:25Okay, if we're already doing that work, then to go down to the bottom floor
18:30Could we add a fireplace in the downstairs den right below the one in this room?
18:34You want to double stack, which is totally, yeah, we can do that
18:38And if he's approving, that's a change order on him, which feels great
18:41Is that your change order?
18:42Yeah, well, which is very rare
18:44Now I've become the change order king, it looks like
18:47So number one is yours?
18:48I guess so
18:49That's it
18:49So it was nice to actually have that first interaction with Steve
18:52And I think I thought it was more complex for that fireplace
18:56We can look at it and go, is it worth this cost?
18:58Or do we just go back to what I had originally planned?
19:00This is our first out of Central Texas project
19:03So partnering with you, it's like a new step in our little journey
19:06We've been doing this for 25 plus years
19:08You've been doing it even longer
19:09But the fact that you're local and you're going to be here on our behalf means a lot, man
19:12Oh, I'm looking forward to it
19:14We're going to have a blast
19:15You bet
19:15Let's go
19:16Thank you, man
19:17Good to see you
19:17Thank you, Steve
19:18You popped in at the perfect time
19:19All right
19:20See you guys
19:20Bye-bye
19:21You know, with us, with our business in Waco
19:24Obviously our family, everything that we're doing and managing there
19:28The distance is going to be a huge challenge
19:31We have to trust who's on the ground here
19:33We're going to see a lot of photos, video
19:35When we can come to kind of see it in person, we're going to maximize those times
19:39We're aiming to finish the house by first snow, which usually happens in early fall
19:44This gives us about six months
19:46When we head back to Waco, I think the first thing I've got to tackle is
19:50I need to pick out flooring, tile, paint color
19:52So that's the next step in finalizing this process
19:55It's weird to think that the next time we stand right here
19:58I mean, everything's going to have changed
20:00It will have been demoed and here we go
20:02Well, I should have said that word
20:04I forgot about demo
20:04Maybe I did my last demo
20:06Oh, dear God, cue the fifth midlife crisis for you
20:10Maybe I can call Steve and sneak out on a red eye
20:15You know, just demo a little
20:16I'll find you something to demo, babe
20:18So the rest of the week, we're going to just spend time as a family, hunker down
20:23We're going to do some skiing, sitting by the fire
20:25We're doing breakfast tacos to just fill up for the slopes
20:29And then everyone's dressed and we're leaving in ten minutes
20:33Yay!
20:34Yay!
20:34Yeah, let's go
20:36Yay!
20:39Yay!
20:40I'm terrified of most things in life
20:42But this is the most scary thing
20:45You got it, baby
20:47Yay!
20:49Yay!
20:51Yay!
20:54Yay!
20:55You're doing great!
20:57Woo!
20:59Woo!

31:57C'est le feel, d'abord ?
31:59Je pense...
32:01Je veux que ça soit un petit cottage.
32:03Ok.
32:04C'est moody ou light ?
32:06Je pense que j'aimerais greens et blues.
32:09Je pense que ça serait fun.
32:10Show me.
32:24en smaller spaces,
32:25the lighter the color it makes it feel bigger.
32:27I don't know if our goal is to make it feel bigger.
32:30We want it to feel moody.
32:31So, I want you to feel like if your gut is dark, we go dark.
32:35We're very similar in our styles.
32:38We both love plants.
32:39We love charming cottagey things.
32:41We love story.
32:42This is your homework.
32:43Ok, ok.
32:44I need to know what kind of flooring.
32:46Paint color, light fixtures.
32:48And then, do you want to keep these closets?
32:52What do you want?
32:53I feel like I would want to take them out.
32:56So, my biggest hope with letting her tackle this cottage is that it builds confidence in her.
33:03In here, I need paint color.
33:06Countertop option.
33:07I need tile in here.
33:08And then, this is the whole wall tile.
33:11This whole wall, you can pick a tile for, but we don't tile that.
33:17Ok, bathroom, same as kitchen.
33:19I need tile, pick out a cool mirror.
33:21Are you accepting the challenge?
33:23Or are you like, never mind.
33:24I don't want to do it.
33:25I'm accepting the challenge.
33:27The idea that my daughter, who is now an adult, has decided to take on what her mother does,
33:34and I get to teach her.
33:37I don't know.
33:37It just feels like this beautiful full circle moment.
33:40This is going to be fun, babe.
33:51So, it's our last day in Colorado before we head back to Waco.
33:54So, today, I'm here with the Design Girls, Kristen, Laura, and Lindsey.
33:57They've been with us for almost 14 years, and I'm just so grateful they wanted to be a part of
34:02this.
34:02A lot of our decision-making has been in Waco, getting a good idea for colors and textures.
34:08So, this is the first time we're together, walking the space.
34:11We basically just have a very small amount of time to make a lot of decisions.
34:17While we're doing that, Chip and crew are down by the river, trying to catch some fish.
34:21What's the biggest fish you've ever caught in your whole life?
34:24It was this big.
34:26That's as big as you.
34:28And then look, buddy, in case we need it, okay?
34:31We'll be ready.
34:36I think let's start in here. Any final questions?
34:39I have the range hood taped out.
34:40Yes.
34:41This is where your wall of millwork is going to go, your fridge, your double oven.
34:46I just wanted to see, before we press go, how you feel about that size.
34:50I think drop it four inches.
34:52Okay, great.
34:53Fireplace?
34:54Yes.
34:55I think go wider.
34:56Chip would want it a little bigger.
34:58Okay.
34:58So we changed from a wood burning stove to the mason fireplace on the upstairs and the downstairs level.
35:05Chip wanted it to be a little bigger.
35:07And then I think the overall design is going to just be, you know, the square base.
35:12Bringing in just a little bit to make it feel a little more feminine and not so bulky.
35:17Let's move on to plaster.
35:20That little sitting room right off the entry.
35:22Just trying to find the perfect shade for the plaster that we're going to be doing on the wall.
35:27Option one.
35:28It's gorgeous, but it looks like concrete.
35:30Yeah.
35:31Yeah, I see that.
35:32There's something about the way you feel when you're in a space versus just looking down at a 3D rendering
35:36or even pictures.
35:38Second option.
35:40I think that's pretty.
35:42My muscle clock is ticking.
35:45Hurry, muscle clock is ticking.
35:47Okay.
35:47Well, that is heavy.
35:48Right?
35:49Option three.
35:50Option three.
35:51We've built this design over the last couple of months together.
35:53Just helps us either go, it's exactly what we want or we need to modify it a little bit.
35:57Oh, I don't like that one as much.
35:59Yeah.
35:59That has a little more brown in it, which I like.
36:01Okay.
36:01So second option is my favorite.
36:04Okay, y'all.
36:05Let's go downstairs because I want to look at the colors we're choosing for the sitting room down there.
36:11I think we designed this room to be moody, bluish color, where it's the dark paneling.
36:18I think we go lighter.
36:20Tongue and groove, creamy.
36:22Creamy.
36:23Just so it feels like really smooth into that all wood paneled living room.
36:30Okay.
36:31All right.
36:31Good job, y'all.
36:32So as we are wrapping things up here, headed home, I feel like the team feels really good about the
36:39next steps.
36:40Anytime I get to spend time with them, it's always like my favorite thing to do.
36:44But honestly, the highlight of this trip is crew caught two rainbow trout down at that river.
36:52That's a large one.
36:53Let's go!
36:54I mean, you can't wish for anything better than that.
36:59How amazing is that?
37:07Steve and the crew had been super busy with all the framing.
37:10On the main level, we added a new cased opening leading into the primary hallway.
37:15The supporting beam for the expanded primary bath went in.
37:19The living room walls had to be open for the larger windows.
37:23And we removed the wrap on the beams to expose that original wood.
37:27We started installing the new electrical and plumbing.
37:30And outside, the guys have been crushing it on that updated river path.
37:35And here in Waco, Ella has been working on the design for her tiny cottage.
37:39Today, Joe and I are checking in with Steve to hear the latest.
37:43All right.
37:44Hey, Steve.
37:44How you doing, buddy?
37:46Good, Chip.
37:46Joe, how are you guys?
37:47So we always love connecting with Steve.
37:50It's fun to see him there at the property giving us these, you know, weekly updates.
37:55Do you remember that main beam that was going between the kitchen and the great room?
37:59Yes.
37:59Well, as we opened it up and we unboxed it, we found this steel artist work done around this
38:04ivy.
38:05Wow.
38:06Wait.
38:07No kidding.
38:07That's crazy.
38:09It was wrapped with an oak plywood.
38:11So we never knew what was in there.
38:13It's always fun when you tackle these projects.
38:16And as you are peeling back layers, you see story, whether that's wallpaper, metal art.
38:21I always think, you know, that's part of the history of the house.
38:23So how do we play that up and honor it?
38:25Any way we leave it and kind of bring it back to life?
38:28Or would that screw you up, Joe?
38:30I don't think it screwed me up.
38:31I think it just, it doesn't feel like the vibe.
38:34I think I wanted it pretty simple up there.
38:36So I am trying to think, like, do you put it, you know, somewhere on the side of the house?
38:40Maybe on the back porch down by the river, we do hooks on it.
38:44And it's, for me, practical for drying flowers, hanging them upside down.
38:47For the kids, it's the rods, the fishing rods.
38:50It's chips, waders.
38:51We could hook squirrels upside down from it?
38:54We won't do that.
38:55Maybe it'll be a bear deterrent.
38:56She only wants to do things that were decorative and logical.
38:59And I only want to do things that are illogical and sort of, like, dangerous.
39:04If it's not hard to remove, remove it, Steve.
39:07And then we'll figure out a fun place to kind of honor the history and the art.
39:11It should come down as one big piece.
39:12And then you guys can decide what you want to do with it.
39:15Okay.
39:15I also want to see the green paint on the small cottage.
39:18We'll have it done next week.
39:20How do you feel about the trail?
39:21I think you're going to like it.
39:22So you've got plenty of room, really solid.
39:24Yeah, I can't wait to see that.
39:26I love that you love the way it's coming together.
39:28That's exciting.
39:29Well done.
39:30Yeah.
39:31Don't forget the bear fence, Steve.
39:33That's on my mind.
39:34We haven't seen that little critter at all since that last time.
39:37He'll be back.
39:38Uh-oh.
39:41Just don't cool your pies in the windowsill like they do.
39:43Yeah, there you go.
39:44Awesome, Steve.
39:45Good to see you, buddy.
39:47You too, guys.
39:48Take care.
39:48Good times Steve.
39:48Goodbye, Steve.lide
39:54andί
39:54snow in. Come
40:07on. Goodbye,
40:16you hot. Bye, Steve.
40:18Bye, Steve. Bye,
40:18Wow, the green.
40:19Even the aspen, the contrast.
40:21I honestly thought the brown was the best color,
40:24but it was like it should have been this to begin with.
40:28All the original light fixtures look really good
40:31because it was brown.
40:32Think about it.
40:33Those all were totally invisible.
40:35The roof was invisible.
40:36Now you can see it.
40:37I love the brown.
40:38I still stand by my argument for the brown,
40:41but I love the green more, you know, and that's cool.
40:44It's fun.
40:45You did it.
40:46Okay, let's go check out the river.
40:47Let's go to the river.
40:50This looks so good.
40:51Wow, I do love that.
40:52This is like actual steps, babe.
40:54Wow.
40:55Isn't that crazy?
40:56Every time you come here,
40:57it's like a totally different universe.
41:01I am imagining snow everywhere,
41:03and that's where I get a little nervous,
41:05so kind of figuring out like the most treacherous part.
41:09Where can we put just a simple black railing?
41:11I see.
41:12But is this what you were envisioning, Chip?
41:14Yeah, this is great.
41:16I love this crushed granite.
41:19Wow.
41:20Wait, let's look.
41:21I want to look that way.
41:22I want to see what this looks like, like, just from here.
41:26Man, I just love the fact that this trail
41:29just kind of disappears into the wilderness, you know?
41:32Steve just crushed it.
41:33We've made it a lot easier for the bears to come up,
41:36so that's really good, too.
41:37Man, look at the river.
41:39That is gorgeous.
41:42Do you kind of feel like you're in a Bob Ross painting?
41:45Yeah, that's how I feel.
41:47Him doing those trees.
41:48They looked exactly like these.
41:50I'm in a Bob Ross painting.
41:52Ah, this place.
41:54You come here, and you're like,
41:55this is a magical paradise in the winter.
41:58I think in the spring, it's better.
42:00I would love to learn fly fishing,
42:02but maybe not rafting down the river, you know?
42:05But who knows?
42:06I could surprise myself.
42:07Every year, I surprise myself.
42:09So who knows?
42:10Look at the workout we could be getting.
42:11I could become a mountain biker.
42:13What if we were dual, single kayakers,
42:16but, like, racing one another?
42:18You never know.
42:23Steve was like, Joe,
42:25you've got to quickly make a decision.
42:26Well, that's not what it's supposed to look like.
42:28Every project we've done,
42:30there's always that one thing that likes to taunt me.
42:32The fireplace has me up at night.
42:34There's a lot of components come together on that.
42:38These hand-painted tile
42:40take the color differently
42:41each time they do a new batch.
42:43Oh, no.
42:44This already looks night and day different.
42:46My little bear can climb in and...
42:51Oh, my gosh.
42:52It's a bear.
42:54Crap.
