AMA Pro Motocross Round 1 Fox Raceway Pala, California 250 Moto 2 Hot Trending
Transcript
00:00So no more of that. I'm going to expect him to firmly be in this fight today and the rest
00:04of the other 10 rounds in this championship.
00:07There are some questions coming in that Joe Shimoto, we knew he was probably on paper your favorite,
00:12finishing second and then winning that XMX world title, but the injuries, the rough Supercross season,
00:18and we know with Joe, he only gets better. I thought he rode great that first moto,
00:23but statistically, he is better in the second moto. I suspect the number 30 is going to be up near
00:27that front if he gets a great start.
00:30And so many contenders that everyone talked about. No one talked about this one.
00:34Nick Romano, who was just hoping to stay on with his team as a fill-in rider,
00:37was running in a podium position for a lot of moto one and ended up fifth.
00:41So a solid performance by the rider from New York City.
00:45And let's see if he can continue that. And if he does, I think you're going to be seeing him
00:49racing for this squad throughout this year and maybe even next.
00:52No pressure, Nick Romano, as the rider is ready. The mechanics start to back away.
00:58There's Seth Hamaker, who is a runner-up in moto one. That was actually a career best in pro motocross
01:04for him.
01:05Remember, both motos count together for the overall. The fly racing 30-second card is up.
01:11Who will be the first overall winner of the year in the 250 class?
01:15We're going to find out because the refs are up.
01:26Julian Beaumare leads them in. But he goes a little wide. Still able to control it. Michael Moseman there with
01:32him at Hamaker.
01:35Great start by Julian. Rough start that first moto. So better start for him.
01:39We saw him earlier today having some speed. Been your third fastest qualifier. Good start for him.
01:45And is that, you said Michael Moseman?
01:47Yeah.
01:48Good to see him up. He was on the far inside gate, close to it.
01:51So, was able to sneak around. And you got your second moto. First moto. Finished second place. Seth Hamaker up
01:56there in a good position.
01:57I don't see Levi Kitchen.
01:59No, that's who I'm looking for. That has been the problem with Kitchen the last year and a half has
02:03been the starts.
02:04Wasn't a great one in moto one, but not bad enough to stop him.
02:08Julian Beaumare off to the race. He's already pulling away from Moseman and Hamaker.
02:12Yeah, this is pretty easy. When you have that speed, you come out and get the whole shot. You're young.
02:16You just go for it.
02:17And you realize, man, I'm pulling away from these guys. But it's a long race.
02:22Want to make sure you have enough for the tank. And Julian always has had the speed as he's starting
02:27to pull away.
02:28Well, he led seven laps in the second moto at this race a year ago, Beaumare.
02:32But this is a little different because he's coming back from a devastating back injury.
02:37Looking good as Hamaker attacks Moseman. Uphill. Right hand turn coming.
02:41But can he get it? Yeah, great. I thought he almost had that pass.
02:45He did now. Yeah. Yeah. Just a racing incident.
02:49You know, Mike was trying to close that door, but Seth was moving forward.
02:52I thought he had the pass earlier, but tough break for Michael.
02:55Looks like he's got a couple more guys. Is that Levi? Yeah, it is Levi.
03:00Good eyes there, James. So that's the moto one winner and the bike.
03:03He goes down a second time. So I'm going to say bye bye to the overall win for the 47.
03:09Oh, man. Something's wrong.
03:10Yeah. Yeah. It looked like his bike spun out his hand the way he was looking.
03:13But yeah, this is it. I mean, if that bike runs, this is that championship.
03:18You've got to get up and move forward.
03:20That front brake issues, baby.
03:22You see the handguard is pointing almost straight down on the right side.
03:28Oh, disaster. And you're right. It quickly shifted from...
03:30You're right. Forget the overall.
03:32You've got to salvage points.
03:33You've got to get into the top 20 to score any points at all as Beaumair continues to roll.
03:39Yeah, just a great opportunity for guys like Julian.
03:42Had a tough first moto.
03:43You know, finished it, but wasn't where he wanted to be.
03:47But a great opportunity for the guy in second place, Seth.
03:51Finishing solid.
03:52Now you've got Julian.
03:53You probably feel like you've been racing.
03:55He might come back towards you.
03:56But your biggest competition and your teammate was on the ground.
03:59You've got to make it work.
04:01Well, how about this story?
04:03What a comeback.
04:04Julian Beaumair broke his back early in the SMX playoffs last year
04:09and was told, first doctor he went to,
04:12you're not even going to touch a motorcycle for 12 months,
04:14which would have been September of this year.
04:17Well, here we are in May, and he's not just on a motorcycle.
04:20He is leading the best in the business.
04:24Now, on a track he's logged a lot of laps on,
04:26but he pushes back against that.
04:28He believes he can get it done anywhere.
04:30Right now he's getting it done for sure here.
04:32Yeah, he's getting it done.
04:33And the biggest thing, he's always had speed.
04:35It's just really the injuries.
04:36And I said earlier when that doctor said that,
04:38he probably said, have a nice day,
04:40because we believe we can overcome anything.
04:43And with Julian, like, you just stay out here.
04:46You know he's good at this track.
04:47And you never know what might happen if you roll this thing off.
04:51Great start, though.
04:52Cannon Duggy is third.
04:54That's the rookie.
04:54He was very strong in moto one.
04:56Now, the overall results are probably going to get quite jumbled from here.
05:01And some of the good contenders that we saw in moto one,
05:05who have bad starts now, begin to move forward.
05:07But at least at the moment, you're looking at a hammocker,
05:10Beaumont, Duggy podium.
05:13Yeah, that door's open.
05:14They've all kicked it in.
05:15And look how close it is.
05:17You know, and these rookies right here, they'll only get better.
05:21First moto, you know, solid finish, now in that top three.
05:25And no real pressure behind him.
05:27So if he can just keep it going, this race will open up.
05:29You've got to think about fitness that comes in.
05:32So far, it's pretty good.
05:33Oh, that's Dax Benick.
05:35He was running well.
05:36I think right around that fifth-place spot.
05:38And now he has crashed.
05:39Yeah, it looks like it's in the same section that Eli went down.
05:43It's a high-speed section, and he's off the racetrack.
05:45So either he got a little bit of help or he went in too hot.
05:48Nonetheless, tough break for Daxton.
05:51Here's Dundee, originally of Iowa, then moved to Texas.
05:56And they got picked up by this Monster of Star Yamaha team.
06:00That means you head to the Cairo, Georgia, Tallahassee, Florida, state line area.
06:05And he's been doing the work.
06:07And it's paying off right now.
06:09Running third.
06:10And a lot of hype about his speed.
06:13But we've seen so many young riders who have the speed and aren't translating it to the racetrack.
06:18So far, so good today for Dundee.
06:20Yeah, and all it takes is a race like this.
06:22Hulks can finish this.
06:24He does have the speed.
06:25I mean, he's riding with Hayden Deegan, Justin Cooper, Jordan, a week.
06:28So he knows that speed.
06:30And I think with these young guys, just that confidence to believe.
06:33Just one finish, it can propel you to a whole different level.
06:37So I'm excited to see if he can hold this thing off.
06:40Well, you mentioned that theory in the 450 class where you thought how Deegan gets his 450 career started is
06:45really going to be a fork in the road.
06:47Same theory here?
06:48Yeah, absolutely.
06:49I mean, I feel like this whole 250 class is a reset for all these guys.
06:53And unfortunately for Levi, it's almost a reset of the past.
06:57You know, you're like, man, I'm so fast.
06:59And then he's going to walk away, unless a miracle happens, with a day that he should have won overall.
07:04But he ends up off the podium and not even close.
07:07But the fact that Cade, Julian, even Seth Amaker, this can spawn him.
07:14Spawn on to a career and really set them up.
07:17Just one race.
07:18Yep.
07:19And for Bomair, there's certainly no doubts about what he can do.
07:22Coming back from injury, his career best is a fourth.
07:25He leaves the moto right now.
07:26Here's Dundee in third, you see, with the drone count.
07:29And Amaker up ahead would be the overall winner with two two scores.
07:35But only six and a half minutes of this race have taken place yet.
07:42That looks really good.
07:44Really clean.
07:47Trying to get another view here of that crash.
07:51Because Bozeman battling with Amaker.
07:54Amaker got aggressive.
07:56Yeah, I mean, I thought Seth had the pass.
07:59And then he gets in there.
08:00Michael just goes in there.
08:01That berm kind of gets in.
08:02And that line that Seth was on just funnels into Michael.
08:05Just a racing incident.
08:07But unfortunately, Michael, it's a bad situation to be in.
08:10And with the points you have to work with him.
08:12This is another spot right here.
08:14And the big moment of this race.
08:16You're going to watch Levi Kitchen go in here.
08:18Runs to the back of.
08:19You see Joe Shimoda.
08:20But for Levi, it just seems like that's the way last year was.
08:24Unfortunately for him, that second moto starts the same way.
08:27But he's got to keep fighting.
08:28It's kind of funny how that worked.
08:30It wasn't hitting Bozeman.
08:31He came together with Cody Schock.
08:33But maybe that was because Schock was trying to stop to not hit Bozeman.
08:38Then the second time when Kitchen went down was due to Bozeman.
08:42Yeah, it's really easy to happen.
08:44Especially these opening laps.
08:45They're in a pack.
08:46So you imagine yourself in a crowd of people.
08:48And somebody in the middle of them just stopped.
08:50You run in the back of it.
08:51Easy to happen.
08:52And, you know, whatever the case was, it's really costly for Levi.
08:56But you see that every race, a pileup on those opening laps.
09:01So Dundee rolling right now in third.
09:04JT.
09:04Yeah, this has to feel good for Caden Dundee.
09:07Because we remember in Supercross, yes, he was the rookie of the year.
09:11But ironically, let's say he got pulled for a poor performance.
09:15It wasn't actually going the way that Monster Yamaha Star Racing wanted it to.
09:19And they said, hey, let's take some time.
09:21Let's get ready for pro motocross.
09:23And let's come out swinging there.
09:25And Weech, it's hard to argue with his qualifying performance and the way he's riding right now
09:29that he's not coming out swinging at the opener.
09:31Well, he is.
09:32And, JT, a lot of people are talking about what they saw,
09:35even with his social media clips, about how fast he was going in the preseason.
09:39But you never know if that's going to mean anything come race day.
09:42But he's making it reality now because he could be on the overall podium.
09:47He's right in the fight for it.
09:48But the rider to watch is actually Davies.
09:51Cole Davies has climbed to fifth.
09:53And that would be enough to get him to second overall.
09:56And for Davies, definitely wants to win this title.
10:01He's showing solid points on maybe not his best day.
10:04Davies just putting it together right now.
10:06So that's exactly what he did during the Supercross.
10:09And you've got to know, like, he didn't race a lot last year.
10:11So he's only going to get better.
10:13And if he brings that confidence from Supercross, it might end well
10:16because he ended up winning a championship pretty easily over there.
10:20Yeah, remember, Davies didn't start the Supercross season on fire.
10:23It took to round three to get a win.
10:24Here he is at the 37 wheel.
10:27And I think a lot of the reason that people didn't really kind of have him
10:30on their bingo card here for the outdoor season is because last year,
10:34well, he wasn't good.
10:36But at the same time, he didn't really get a chance to show it.
10:39He only was there for a few rounds at the end.
10:41He was coming off injury.
10:42He talked to me yesterday and said how he wasn't prepared because of that injury,
10:46wasn't able to set the bike up.
10:48So they were behind on that.
10:49And he said just, you know, he kind of scrambled his way through those last rounds there.
10:53And I think a lot of people think, oh, well, in that case, he's the Supercross guy.
10:56But he reminded me, too, he's from New Zealand.
10:59And he was on motocross just like everybody else kind of growing up.
11:03He said really, it was only when Ben Townley sort of took him under his wing
11:06and started teaching him the Supercross skills there.
11:09But that's where he switched over to.
11:11There are very few Supercross tracks in New Zealand near where he lives.
11:15And so he said, I grew up on monokit.
11:17So I think it's kind of narrative that that's not where his skill set is.
11:21He's out to prove all of those people wrong.
11:23And he's doing a great job here, especially if he hangs on to the Supercross second.
11:27Yeah, I agree.
11:28And for the people that don't have him on his bingo card,
11:30I'm sorry to say you probably should stop playing bingo because this guy is that good.
11:35I mean, you can see it.
11:36And really, it just comes down.
11:37These guys get on the track.
11:39They get that momentum.
11:40This is what you're going to get.
11:42And he's trying to challenge Ryder DeFrancisco for fourth.
11:45There's Francesco on the white Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider from California.
11:50Definitely rode this track a lot.
11:52Growing up from Bakersfield.
11:55And he's holding down fourth into the running order of that team.
11:59You got Cochran who had a tough first moto back in this one in 18.
12:03And then Benick, who had a good moto going, he's crashed.
12:06Officially credited right now in 38.
12:08So that's the Rockstar Husky team, which has announced they will not be racing next year as a full factory
12:14outfit.
12:15Now, Husky is looking to perhaps supply some of the factory motorcycle components to another team
12:21if there are some takers out there that want to lease the components.
12:25But the rumor is that some of these young 250 riders will just move over to a KTM 250 factory
12:31team.
12:32So I think that DeFrancisco and Benick are going to be okay and have a home next year.
12:36There are some other riders, like I believe Cochran, who are going to be looking for work.
12:41And it's all about this season to show everybody what they are capable of.
12:45Rider D riding pretty well right now in fourth.
12:48Yeah, Rider D had a breakout Supercross season, finished third.
12:51But, yeah, it's a hard spot to be in with all these young guys, even the rookies,
12:56that there are so many good guys coming up in the amateur program that hold necks and out here
13:01that if you're not performing, it's sad to say you'll be looking for a rod no matter how talented you
13:06think you are
13:07because the next guy is just as talented and it just continues to go.
13:11Yes, that necks program you mentioned where the amateurs get a chance to race on race day
13:16in their own race in the same track.
13:18You're not seeing nearly as many ups and downs.
13:21Almost everybody is either good or great of these young riders coming through.
13:25We don't really see the complete bust, as they would say, in other sports.
13:30And that just makes it more crowded at the top.
13:33No, absolutely. Absolutely.
13:34You'll have the incidents like we all have, but what just Levi, you know, up and downs.
13:40But there's no bust, JT.
13:43James, watching Ryder DeFrancisco going on.
13:46I had an opportunity to grab Max Anstey up here in the mechanics tower.
13:48Max, not the opening round you wanted.
13:51We saw that huge crash on race day live this morning.
13:54Pulled off there early in Moto 1.
13:56Was that just due to the soreness you were experiencing in that Moto?
13:59Yeah, I mean, of course, could have been way worse.
14:02I'm still, I'm not broken, but yeah, I'm pretty sore and beat up.
14:06I couldn't really breathe when I was riding.
14:09It was the jumbling around, but hey, it's what it is.
14:12I'm up here studying, watching.
14:14I'll get some physio done this week, and I'll be back next week.
14:17The Alpine Star Medical Crew, honestly, they did a fantastic job with me,
14:20and they were like, look, get some physio done this week.
14:23You're going to be okay.
14:24But, I mean, yeah, it was just, they can't really drain it
14:26or get any of the blood out of it.
14:27It's just my butt is pretty big at the moment.
14:31So, not ideal, but hey, could have been worse.
14:34Still, watching my teammates, they're doing well.
14:36Donnie in third and Coling in fifth.
14:39The boys are, yeah, cadence up there.
14:40I tell you what, these boys are ripping, so good to watch,
14:43and hopefully I'll be back out there next week fine.
14:45All right, Jarrell, it's totally okay.
14:46We'll see you at Hangtown.
14:47Let's put a little bit of perspective on what Max is talking about right here.
14:51He had a crash earlier today in practice,
14:54and when he's talking about he's a little sore,
14:56check out to the left of your screen right here.
14:58This is Max Dancy.
15:00Ancy, instant stop.
15:02So, you want to know how tough these guys are.
15:04He got up, rode off the racetrack, came out, and lined up for the first moto,
15:08and it was a tough day for him, but good to see him happy.
15:12Got another moment.
15:13Yeah.
15:14Looking through traffic a moment ago.
15:18Oh!
15:20And stalled it.
15:21Yeah, that's a tough spot to be at.
15:23We saw Nick Romano do the same thing.
15:26There's a big kicker right there, so didn't lose too much time,
15:30but that was costly for him.
15:31All right, and now Hamaker has caught Bo Mair in a battle for the lead.
15:35Shimoda is 11th after the mistake,
15:37so a tough one for him after a good first moto.
15:39A tough one for Kitchen, who is just trying to get into the top 20.
15:44He's 21st right now, so it could be Hamaker's day,
15:47and he's looking to make it a little better
15:50as the man in the green, number 10, looks for the moto win.
15:52Yeah, he looks good.
15:53He was able to close that gap, and as I mentioned earlier,
15:56he probably figured Julian would get out there,
15:58but because he hasn't been racing that race,
16:00especially the second moto opening race,
16:02he might come back towards him,
16:04and Seth is probably like, okay,
16:06so this is what Levi felt like that first moto.
16:08Pass the speed, closing in on the guy, it looked great.
16:12Halfway through a reminder to stock up a Monster Energy drink
16:15at Stater Brothers, which way is this going to go?
16:20Hamaker looking for an opening on Chichu.
16:24Yeah, you saw Seth really charge into that section,
16:26and I think he missed his line.
16:28I believe he wanted to get close to him
16:30because there was an opportunity to pass another one here,
16:33but Julian did a great job at kind of keeping Seth guessing right there,
16:38but nonetheless, Seth makes that pass.
16:40He's going to close this door, and he's into the lead.
16:43He guessed right.
16:44He guessed it.
16:45Keep him guessing.
16:47Well, how about this?
16:48Hamaker has never won an overall, has never won a moto,
16:50and he might get both today, Will.
16:54A great performance regardless, right, Jason,
16:56but especially considering that we're talking about a guy's
16:59very little seat time to set up this bike for pro motocross,
17:03and that was due to the injury that we sort of referenced earlier.
17:06It was a badly torn trapezius.
17:09That's that kind of muscle there in the sort of middle, center,
17:12sort of upper side of your back over your shoulder area,
17:14and he said that the rehab that he had to do was basically two weeks long
17:18with Doc G, who we got to speak to earlier there,
17:21also Jet Lawrence's physio.
17:23He said he was there every single day, Monday to Friday,
17:26for two weeks straight.
17:28Go in there in the morning, three hours of therapy,
17:30go get some lunch, come back for two to three more hours of therapy,
17:33and this is away from home in California,
17:35so we couldn't even go home to Florida at this point.
17:37So really committed to getting back here to racing fitness.
17:41But when I said to him, kind of, you know, what toll does that take,
17:44he said, didn't really matter, because at the end of the day,
17:47I need to come here knowing that I have done everything
17:49that I possibly could.
17:50For Seth right now, guys, it is paying off big time.
17:55You know what?
17:56That's a pretty wild story, but at the same time,
17:59anyone who knows Seth, the main thing that people say about him
18:03is how gritty and how tough he is.
18:04So it's almost, in a way, not a surprise
18:07that whatever was thrown at him,
18:09he didn't even notice when he's out of the racetrack.
18:11No, that's why I was just listening, like, finding this out.
18:14You know, Seth does a great job at keeping the main thing the main thing.
18:17He goes out there and focuses on himself,
18:18doesn't let all these distractions, and for most riders,
18:21I mean, that would be a gnarly story
18:23and an excuse coming in here, and a legitimate one,
18:27but not Seth.
18:28He comes out here and he's fighting.
18:30I think he also probably knew with Julian coming back from injury
18:33that he probably wouldn't fight him that much,
18:36but Seth is here and got his best finish that first moto
18:40and might top that this second one, winning this thing
18:44and winning overall if you hold on.
18:45Right.
18:46We just saw rider, sorry, as this battle is going on,
18:49you got Romare, Dugney, DeFrancisco, and Davies.
18:54Just saw Dax Benick ride off, had a crash early in this moto.
18:57He is done at least for this race,
18:59but he rode off the motorcycle under his own power.
19:02His bottom box, let's see what Davies can do,
19:05how far forward can he go.
19:07He's already second overall,
19:08but championship points still on the line with each position.
19:12Yeah, you got to give a shout-out to Cade in third place.
19:15These guys have been here for a few laps now and much stuff.
19:18We talk about the Supercross champion, Cole Davies.
19:22He hasn't been able to close the gap on him,
19:24so in rider, he's trying to put that pressure.
19:26So again, as I said, as these laps goes on,
19:29just a little bit of belief in these guys.
19:31You'll get a finish like if Cade can hold on.
19:33You'll get rods like this, and it'll only get better.
19:36Next thing you know, he'll be battling it up there
19:38with Seth Handmaker for the lead.
19:40And that's a good move for Doug D
19:42because the Supercross campaign, as JT mentioned,
19:44did not go as expected.
19:46Davies makes a mistake.
19:48Yeah, loses front end and buries it.
19:50Luckily, he's got a little bit of time.
19:52Now maybe, I think he was getting to the point
19:54where I believe he was faster than Rider D,
19:56but he was so close,
19:57he wasn't able to ride his normal line.
19:58So we'll see if he has that pace,
20:00if he can close back up with about 10 minutes left.
20:03Still fighting for that podium position.
20:07You can see how the overall podium would turn out
20:09on the bottom left of the screen.
20:11It'd be Handmaker, Davies, and Dudley, top three.
20:16Bomara would be fourth overall.
20:17Romano would be fifth.
20:18Romano's best in his career overall is a seventh.
20:21So still a great race day for the 141,
20:25running sixth right now.
20:26We'll see if Davies can reset the teenager out of New Zealand.
20:30Talked to his dad this morning,
20:32and really echoing what Will had said in her report.
20:36They are confident that they can do this in motocross
20:38just the same as Supercross.
20:40What he said is,
20:42really look at the Supercross races
20:43where he's really excelled.
20:45The nastier, the more rutted the track is,
20:47the better Colt Navy has done.
20:50So his dad, Wayne, kind of thought
20:51this track would be a weakness.
20:52He thinks as we go east,
20:54even to Colorado,
20:55where that track's pretty rutted,
20:56he thinks Cole will get even better.
20:58Yeah, I mean, he will,
20:59but he was right.
21:01I mean, Cole wasn't as good,
21:03to me, in my honest opinion,
21:04in some of those nasty spot tracks,
21:07like Daytona.
21:07He was really rushing it,
21:08but what he did was go to work,
21:10and we talked about during the Supercross,
21:13like his interest rate was really low.
21:15He worked on that,
21:16and as he did,
21:16you could see that growth
21:17during the Supercross season
21:18to where he was untouchable.
21:20Nobody in that field was even close to him,
21:22so he will get better.
21:23I think it's more about the hard work
21:25of Cole Davies rather than
21:26just the track conditions.
21:27He adapts,
21:29and he doesn't usually make
21:30the same mistake over and over,
21:32and he definitely won't stay
21:33in the same spot.
21:34He's moving forward.
21:37Yeah, I think he's shown enough here
21:39to everyone realize,
21:40all right, he's going to be in it
21:41in motocross just like he is
21:43in Supercross.
21:45What's wild about this right now
21:47is that it would be the first
21:48overall podium for all three riders,
21:52Hamaker, Davies, and Dugney.
21:55And to get back to what I was saying
21:56about Dugney,
21:57you mentioned how fleeting
21:58that confidence can be
21:59after those tough Supercross races.
22:02That'll all be gone
22:03if Dugney can hold on for a podium.
22:05Yeah, it will be.
22:06You know, it's maybe not like
22:08the pro circuit
22:08where you solidify a ride
22:10because, you know,
22:11Bobby has a lot of guys up there
22:12looking for that opportunity,
22:13but for him,
22:14you know, I believe it's a lot.
22:16You see just these little gains
22:18as Cole makes another mistake.
22:21It doesn't take much
22:22because these guys are so close
22:24to where if he finishes this thing off,
22:26don't be surprised a week or two
22:27that we're talking about
22:29Kate Dugney winning
22:30his first ever race.
22:31That's how good
22:31and close these guys are.
22:33They just got to believe,
22:34and this moto might be
22:36that step towards that.
22:38Amazing how quickly
22:40things can flip in this game
22:41when you start talking
22:43confidence and momentum.
22:44Davies Mechonic likes what he sees.
22:46Third in the moto.
22:47Second overall.
22:49Seth Hamaker trying to bring
22:50his first win
22:51in pro motocross home.
22:53And by the way,
22:54as you watch this battle,
22:55another one of the young riders
22:56on Monster Yamaha Star Racing,
22:58Kate Menear,
22:59battling with the 43 of Lux Turner,
23:01who's been great today
23:02on the Toyota Redlands Bar X Yamaha.
23:05By the way,
23:06I just want to add
23:07that Hamaker is the only
23:08non-Yamaha rider
23:09to win this year.
23:10He won Daytona.
23:11Yamaha won every other Supercross.
23:12Now he's looking to win
23:13at motocross.
23:14Look at Lux
23:14turning up the heat.
23:16Turned down for what?
23:17He's like,
23:18my sister's going to be there
23:19in a couple weeks as well.
23:20I got to show up.
23:21But, you know,
23:22this battle right here,
23:23I mean,
23:23Lux walks that rod
23:24that Kate's on.
23:26So there's,
23:27there's a lot of pride
23:28for these guys.
23:29And I'm sure for,
23:30you know,
23:31Kate's race,
23:32he's starting to get
23:32to the second moto
23:33and starting to make
23:34a few mistakes,
23:35but still top 10.
23:36Great,
23:36great finish
23:37if you can hold on,
23:38JT.
23:39Yeah,
23:39I think we,
23:39remember Lux Turner
23:41telling us that story
23:42about how,
23:43you know,
23:43before things turned,
23:44and he really started
23:46to make progress.
23:46He was having to race
23:47part-time.
23:48He'd have to go home,
23:50work a part-time job
23:51just to make enough money
23:52to go chase his dream,
23:54go back to riding
23:55for a couple weeks,
23:56and then rinse and repeat
23:57that cycle over
23:58and over and over.
24:00And you watch him now.
24:01He was really turning
24:02the corner
24:03at Supercross
24:03becoming a top 10,
24:04top 5 guy.
24:05Now he's trying
24:06to challenge
24:07and move towards
24:08the top 5
24:08in pro motocross.
24:09It's just a remarkable
24:10story of a guy
24:12that wasn't even
24:13good enough
24:13in this sport
24:14to be doing it
24:14full-time.
24:15Look at him now.
24:17Yeah,
24:17and as we watch
24:17Shimoda challenging
24:18Muneer,
24:19JT,
24:19also,
24:20this is no disrespect
24:21to that Bar-X Yamaha team,
24:22but in pro motocross,
24:24having the factory
24:25full engine
24:26is such a huge advantage,
24:27so when you see
24:28Turner
24:29well up in the top 10,
24:30you know that guy
24:31can ride.
24:33There's
24:33a great motorcycle,
24:34I'm sure,
24:35under him,
24:35but there are tricks
24:36that the top teams have,
24:38and he's taking it
24:39right to all those guys.
24:40Shimoda looking
24:41to take it to Muneer now.
24:43Yeah,
24:43Joe's doing what he did
24:44that first moto.
24:45Just unfortunate for him,
24:46that mistake
24:47cost him earlier,
24:48but that was a great pass.
24:49He can hold on to it.
24:50He'll be on the outside,
24:51so he should have
24:52the momentum
24:52to get through his corner
24:53pretty clean as he does,
24:55but yeah,
24:56you know,
24:56going back to
24:57the Yamahas,
24:59the better you do,
25:00the more parts you get
25:01from factory Yamaha.
25:03In this class,
25:04throws a little bit apart.
25:05You see,
25:05you notice that difference
25:06on the racetrack,
25:07so the team is getting better,
25:09the rotter's getting better,
25:10and yeah,
25:12a great start for him.
25:13And now it's Romano battling.
25:15Turner's not settling.
25:17He's just moving forward.
25:18He gets Muneer,
25:19and now he's going
25:20after Romano.
25:21He hits the brake square
25:22up right here.
25:24There you go.
25:24Cut him off,
25:25cut him off.
25:25There you go.
25:26Nice pass.
25:27They can see that one coming.
25:28They got a little bit of wide.
25:30Lux since that.
25:30That was a pass,
25:31a quarter pass,
25:32and yeah,
25:33continued moving his way forward.
25:36He's got a chance,
25:36Hymas.
25:37You had the in-ear communication
25:38with him there.
25:39I'm talking to him.
25:40Coach him.
25:41Get the same sense out here.
25:43And there's Hymas.
25:44Have not seen much of him today.
25:46He's up ahead in sixth.
25:48But look,
25:49you can't tell the story
25:50both ways.
25:51With Hymas,
25:51the story has been
25:52you've just got to
25:53get points,
25:53be consistent,
25:54be there.
25:55So he's actually
25:55doing that today.
25:57So even though
25:57it's not a podium
25:58or a race win,
25:59is that all right
26:00for the 29?
26:01I don't know.
26:02Yeah,
26:03I don't know.
26:04This is a battle
26:04for third right here.
26:06Router D is closing in.
26:07I don't,
26:08I don't,
26:08you can't,
26:09all these results
26:10aren't equal.
26:11Okay.
26:11And I think chance,
26:13yes,
26:13consistency,
26:14health is the number one,
26:15but he's been
26:16kind of lost in the mix.
26:18You know,
26:18where you kind of start,
26:19he's just been here.
26:20But there's really
26:21nothing that I believe
26:22from what I've seen
26:23that he can pull out
26:24as this battle
26:25is getting really good
26:25here that he can pull out
26:26and be like,
26:27yeah,
26:27I have the speed
26:28or I had this.
26:29I just had this happen.
26:31Bad start.
26:32He's just been
26:32kind of stuck there.
26:33So,
26:33you know,
26:34we'll see,
26:34but he's got to get through it
26:36and we'll see what happens
26:36next week after this one.
26:38JT.
26:39And we just,
26:40you remember at the top
26:41of the show,
26:41we were talking about
26:42the parody in this class
26:43and the inconsistency
26:45in years past
26:46that allowed guys
26:46like Hayden Deegan
26:47and Joe Shimoda
26:48to build these gigantic
26:49gaps over everyone else.
26:51Well,
26:51look at the way
26:52it's shaping up
26:52just here today.
26:53Now,
26:54Seth Hamaker,
26:55now he's doing his thing.
26:5647 points,
26:57that's a really respectable score.
26:58That's the type of score
26:59the championships are made of,
27:00but look behind him.
27:02It's already
27:03a 10-point gap
27:04to a guy like Cole Davies.
27:06And you think about
27:06the other people
27:07that we consider
27:08contenders,
27:10the Joe Shimodas,
27:11the Levi Kitchens,
27:12it's not that they're
27:13necessarily riding poorly,
27:14but they're not having
27:15a great points day.
27:17So,
27:17is this going to be
27:18the norm?
27:18Is Seth Hamaker
27:19going to be super consistent,
27:20build up this huge lead,
27:21or is it going to be
27:22this yo-yo effect
27:23where a lot of
27:2430-point days
27:25and who can manage
27:27the best of those,
27:28it still really feels
27:29like 2025 and prior
27:30where inconsistency
27:32will reign.
27:34Yeah,
27:34I agree with that.
27:35Yeah,
27:36Jason,
27:36go ahead.
27:37No,
27:37I agree with that,
27:39you know,
27:39and especially
27:40for Levi's,
27:41these guys are still
27:42battling right here.
27:43It reminds you
27:44what didn't happen
27:45in his whole career
27:46pretty much,
27:47the last couple of years.
27:48So,
27:48for him,
27:49you know,
27:50he talked about
27:51on the podium,
27:51consistency,
27:52you know,
27:53I want to work on stars.
27:54Don't worry about
27:54getting the whole shot,
27:55just be up there.
27:56Well,
27:56he did get the best star,
27:57he goes down the first lap
27:58and now he's battling
27:59for 16th place
28:00and his teammate
28:01running away
28:02and that's JT
28:03mentioned that points gap.
28:04So,
28:05it's going to be difficult
28:06for him,
28:06especially the guy
28:07that doesn't nail his stars
28:08as Ryder D turns to scrub.
28:11He was hustling
28:12to get Dougie there
28:13and he finally got it.
28:14Yeah,
28:14you kind of sense here
28:15like Ryder D knows,
28:16like if I can get him now,
28:18put in a sprint,
28:19then I pretty much
28:19have this whole,
28:20this third place
28:21wrapped up in this moto
28:22because Cade's going to start
28:23just trying to hold on
28:25top five finish for him.
28:27It'd be a great day.
28:28All these riders,
28:28they know their competition
28:30and probably what
28:31their mindset is.
28:32great route by both these guys.
28:35DeFrancisco,
28:36third in the moto,
28:37that would be
28:37a career best for him.
28:38I feel like it's a day
28:39where we're constantly
28:41mentioning career best.
28:42Maybe that is the effect
28:44of Deegan moving
28:45out of the class.
28:47DeFrancisco would,
28:48after the tough first moto,
28:49what might have been,
28:50he was up there
28:51on the first lap
28:52of the first moto
28:53then crashed
28:54all the way back
28:55to the last,
28:56was just able to get it
28:57inside the points.
28:58A good bounce back
28:59for him here.
29:0119th in moto one
29:02and third in moto two.
29:05Yeah,
29:05I'm sure he came in
29:06this season,
29:07you know,
29:07whether he said it out
29:08in publicly,
29:09but inside,
29:10he probably felt like
29:10this is a great opportunity
29:11for him,
29:12especially all for that
29:13Supercross season.
29:14And I know the results
29:15haven't been there,
29:16but we're stubborn.
29:18You know,
29:18he's always had speed
29:20and to have that opportunity
29:21and know who you're
29:22going to race against,
29:23he's beat everybody
29:24in this field
29:25straight up and down.
29:26So it's not like
29:26he's afraid of anybody.
29:28Opportunity might be now.
29:29That first moto
29:30was tough for him,
29:31but great bounce back
29:32for him.
29:32Set him up soon.
29:35We have found Levi Kitchen.
29:36He's into the point,
29:3716th right now.
29:39He's got Landon Gordon
29:40right in front of him.
29:41And every position
29:42he can make
29:42from here on out
29:43would be one championship
29:45point to the good.
29:46He would be down
29:47after a day
29:48where he was the fastest rider,
29:49I would think.
29:51He'd be down 15 points
29:52on Hanbaker
29:52if it ends like this.
29:53Fifth overall.
29:55Let's see if he can
29:55move up a bit.
29:56Yeah,
29:56this is what I want
29:57to see from Levi.
29:58Just as I mentioned
29:59that first moto
29:59with Chance Hymes,
30:01that grit.
30:01I want to see him
30:02get a bad start,
30:03you know,
30:03things aren't working out
30:04and just fight your way up.
30:06You know,
30:06you look at this motorcycle,
30:07it's bent,
30:08you know,
30:08but he's out there fighting
30:10and if he can somewhere
30:11get up,
30:11maybe close to the top 10
30:13or just top 15,
30:14it'd be a disappointing
30:16day for him.
30:16But I think overall
30:17it'd be good for him
30:18in the championship, JT.
30:20Yeah,
30:20and you see that rider there,
30:22A72.
30:22That's Matisse Boirame.
30:24Now,
30:24he's a MXGP regular.
30:26He's actually a French
30:27national champion
30:28as well,
30:29but he's over here
30:29kind of making
30:30a wild card appearance.
30:31We'll see how many races
30:32he ends up at this summer.
30:34But this is a rider
30:34who has a lot of experience.
30:35He was actually on
30:36the factory Kawasaki
30:37MXGP team
30:38at one time,
30:39so it's, you know,
30:40interesting to see him
30:41up here battling
30:42with the likes of
30:43Landon Gordon,
30:44guys that are much,
30:44much younger than him.
30:45He has a ton of experience,
30:46but yeah,
30:47just another aspect
30:48of this, you know,
30:49SMX World Championship
30:50we always talk about.
30:52Yeah,
30:53when I saw 27 years old
30:54on the graphic,
30:55I would have said
30:56he was north of 30
30:57because it does feel like
30:58he's been racing
31:00overseas for a long,
31:01long time.
31:01Good to see him out here
31:02and representing well
31:03on the KTM
31:05RMA.
31:06Now, if this ends like this
31:08and Hamaker wins the race,
31:09he'll also be the points leader.
31:11And I cannot believe this one.
31:12That team has not led the points
31:15since Adam C.
31:16Cerullo won the title
31:17in 2019.
31:18Oh, what's happening here?
31:20Lux Turner
31:22just not giving up.
31:23He has now caught
31:24Cole Davies
31:26for six.
31:27This guy doesn't get tired.
31:28Yeah, no,
31:29Lux doesn't.
31:30Yeah, that is a strange stat,
31:31but I guess he's been having,
31:33you know,
31:33Mitch,
31:33he's been having a hard time
31:34finding his rotters,
31:35so, you know,
31:36he finds himself up
31:37in the lead,
31:38but we found this one.
31:39We found this one out front.
31:41But, yeah,
31:41Lux Turner,
31:42you can see it coming
31:43in his body language
31:44compared to Cole Davies.
31:46Lux is on the move.
31:48Cole seems like he's struggling
31:49with two laps to go,
31:50but this guy isn't.
31:52No way.
31:54I think he just needed to show
31:55kind of like a Davies light
31:57that he can do it in motocross.
31:59He hasn't had disastrous results
32:01in motocross,
32:01but no podiums,
32:02a couple of fourths
32:03for Hamaker last year.
32:06Kitchen.
32:08Now, wait a minute.
32:09He is getting close
32:10to the podium here.
32:11He's made a couple moves.
32:12Now he's going after
32:13Derek Kelly
32:14on the MX6 Kawasaki.
32:16And look at the podium map there.
32:19He is one point off of Dudney.
32:22He just made up that point.
32:24They'd be tied.
32:24Now, Dudney has to tie Breaker
32:26with the better second moto.
32:28Kitchen needs one more spot,
32:29and he will somehow
32:31have salvaged third overall.
32:33This is it.
32:34You know,
32:34he's got two laps.
32:36His mechanic is going to tell him,
32:37and he's got what
32:38let me see.
32:40Matt, this is my strongest suit.
32:41About six seconds
32:42to Boland,
32:44it seems like,
32:44in front of him.
32:45Good job.
32:46This is chin.
32:46Yeah, I made it.
32:48You did it.
32:48Five out of four people, baby.
32:51Six seconds is going to be a lot
32:53to make up in two laps,
32:54but what a dig
32:55from Kitchen.
32:57Yeah, get some clean laps,
32:59and yeah,
33:00I think this is a very impressive
33:02ride by him.
33:03This, again,
33:04what we want to see
33:04it'd be disappointing,
33:05but with a bent motorcycle
33:07and how the day was,
33:08great start.
33:12Now,
33:12what could also happen
33:13is,
33:14I miss,
33:14we said how quiet he is.
33:15He's at the bottom
33:16of the screen here
33:16on the Honda HRC
33:18number 29.
33:19If he passes,
33:20doesn't he,
33:21that would also
33:21give the podium
33:22to Kitchen.
33:24Yeah,
33:24it's actually a great moto
33:25by chance.
33:26He's made a lot of passes.
33:28They both of those guys
33:28got around,
33:29well,
33:30they're ahead of Cole Davies,
33:31so he can get him,
33:32as I was saying,
33:33that championship mentality
33:34and just that grip,
33:37just that chance,
33:37high miss,
33:38and it'll go a long ways
33:39for him
33:40if he can get around
33:42doesn't he right here.
33:43Now,
33:43we're saying
33:44it's going to be tough
33:44for Kitchen
33:45to make up six seconds
33:46and two laps,
33:47but guess what?
33:48He just went three seconds
33:49faster than Max Follin
33:50the last time around,
33:52so if he can replicate that
33:53and make the pass,
33:54he could salvage the podium.
33:56I don't know
33:56if Havaker
33:58cares about any of this.
33:59He's headed to the win
34:00and I don't know
34:00if Pymus
34:02really cares
34:02that he's
34:03affecting the podium.
34:04He's just riding
34:05for himself here.
34:06Yeah,
34:06all these battles
34:08right here
34:08is about your mindset
34:10going into next week
34:11and the next weekend,
34:12so these are
34:12the little battles,
34:13so it might not be a win,
34:15but this could be a win
34:16for them to all be like,
34:17oh,
34:17we're close,
34:18good second ride,
34:19good second moto,
34:20just build,
34:21work on the bike
34:21and come out next week,
34:23so.
34:25Let's see what they're saying
34:26to the Kawasaki pit.
34:27Will?
34:28I was curious,
34:29I just came over here
34:30to his mechanic
34:30just to see what they were
34:31writing there
34:31to let him know
34:32to see how away
34:33Levi was
34:34that he was that close
34:35to that third spot
34:36and he's just written
34:37on the pit board
34:37that he had one spot
34:39for third,
34:39so they want him
34:40to keep pushing,
34:41no doubt Levi's
34:42putting the work in anyway,
34:43but they just want to
34:43let him know
34:44where he's at.
34:44I'm just going to tell
34:46everybody why.
34:46The teams pay bonuses
34:47for podiums,
34:48generally around,
34:50say,
34:50the $20,000 mark
34:51for a third overall
34:53in the 250 class,
34:54give or take,
34:54so that's a reason
34:55to go for it
34:56in the next minute
34:57to two.
34:59He can make himself
35:00$20,000
35:01if he can dig deep.
35:04And there's that stat
35:05I was talking about.
35:06The last time
35:07this team,
35:08one of the best ever
35:09in the history of the sport,
35:10has led the points
35:11in this class
35:12was 2019
35:14when our man
35:15Adam C. Cirulo
35:17won the opener,
35:18led the points all year,
35:19won the title.
35:20Steph Havaker
35:21is looking to carry
35:22the red plate
35:23into round two
35:24at Hightown.
35:25What a great ride.
35:26I mean, overall,
35:27the whole Pro Circuit
35:28squad has been
35:29awesome today.
35:30I mean,
35:30their bikes look good,
35:31Levi looked great
35:33earlier that first
35:34motor ride,
35:34great to second moto.
35:36Seth has gotten
35:37better as well.
35:37Nick Toronto,
35:38like, I mean,
35:39it looks good,
35:40so just hope
35:41they can continue
35:42this thing,
35:42but so proud of Seth
35:44and happy for him.
35:45This guy is a beast,
35:47man.
35:47I've seen him
35:47take some hits,
35:49and he keeps fighting
35:50just like this battle
35:51for fifth place.
35:52You think Chance knows
35:53that this is possibly
35:54a podium as well?
35:55I don't think he cares.
35:57He's doing the best
35:58he can,
35:58and you already know
36:00what Chance is going to say.
36:00He's going to take
36:01the positive.
36:02Forget the first
36:0448 minutes he wrote today.
36:05He's going to be thinking
36:06about these last couple laps
36:07where he's looking
36:08a lot better.
36:09Oh, he changed my mind.
36:11Totally.
36:11I picked up on that.
36:12All of a sudden,
36:13you're like,
36:13eh,
36:14not anymore.
36:15Yeah, I'm very fickle.
36:16Chance, this is great.
36:17This is what I needed
36:18to be out of here.
36:19Exactly.
36:19We finally saw it.
36:22And just as he got
36:23close to Dundee,
36:24a couple of mistakes,
36:25Dundee pulls it back out.
36:26It's the last lap,
36:27podium on the line.
36:28The win is already decided.
36:30It's going to be
36:30Seth Hamaker,
36:32the only non-Yamaha rider
36:33to win in Supercross.
36:35He's going to do it again
36:35in motocross.
36:37Congratulations,
36:37Seth Hamaker.
36:38You're a winner
36:39outdoors.
36:41Great job, Seth.
36:42And a great job
36:43by Julian Vermeer.
36:45Lovely five seconds
36:46behind him.
36:47Great second moto.
36:49Coming off the injury,
36:50you can see how much
36:50that means for Seth.
36:53And we're waiting.
36:54Here's Joe battling.
36:56The indefatigable
36:57Lux Turner
36:58right to the line.
37:00Turner is sixth
37:02on the Bar-X Yamaha.
37:04What a ride
37:04for the young man
37:05from Reno.
37:07And there's Seth
37:08and his mom, Sally.
37:09He got it done.
37:11Great job, Seth.
37:12Great job.
