00:00The state of Arizona, real quick, Sam, appears to be opening up the door for maybe additional sports betting operators
00:06here.
00:07Why are they making this move?
00:10Yeah, Arizona has had sports betting since 2021.
00:15The Department of Gaming just kind of meets every year and figures out if it wants to open up to
00:20more applicants.
00:20It's a good question. Why are they making this move at this time?
00:23They used to have 18 total sports books. Now they only have 13.
00:27A lot have exited the space over the last couple of years, but most of the market is still dominated
00:32by FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, and BetMGM.
00:35So it's kind of a question mark of who could be entering the space at this time.
00:39But if you know anything about U.S. sports betting, it's kind of when you least expect something to happen
00:44is when it does.
00:44That's what happened certainly when Fanatics entered the space and PointsBet exited.
00:48So this could be opening up the market for kind of a mystery entrant into Arizona, which has been a
00:53really key state for sports betting operators.
00:55There's low tax rate and a lot of betting.
00:57So we'll have to keep watching and see who enters or if anyone ever does it all.
01:01But yeah, it's definitely kind of scratching your head as to why now.
01:06We'll see, I guess.
