00:02:13the entire time seemingly kind of the first 45 minutes and then you could feel the pressure
00:02:19building and then i mean the the end of that game was just swinging narratives and destinies hanging
00:02:25on every single play for those who don't know liam massive died in the wolf from childhood golden
00:02:31knights fan from vegas bed sheets as a kid how are we feeling that was a natural disaster the final
00:02:3710 minutes yeah it was a hurricane correct we we just had to withstand it get to a commercial break
00:02:43and ice cleaning uh up to one wasn't able to do it hockey's a funny game man um all the

00:04:56conversation but i do want to celebrate what the game was before immediately making about the refs
00:05:03because you mentioned it i don't want to make it about the refs no and i'm not saying but it
00:05:06is the
00:05:06conversation that has to be had after last night unfortunately uh but it is the you kind of touched
00:05:12on it but in terms of like being a viewer without a dog in the fight what you want to
00:05:17see are or what
00:05:18makes it so attractive are like storylines and stakes and the amount of uh narrative and like swings
00:05:26of destiny that that that is that is hanging in the air in in these final moments where things are
00:05:33decided by inches literal inches in this with anderson diving and sticking his stick across
00:05:39barbershop looks like oh he's he's gonna stop the hurricane's coming he's gonna put him up three
00:05:43two oh wait a second now they challenge out to penalty now they're down three two they find a way
00:05:47to force ot okay now carolina's blowing it again and then carolina finds it was just back and forth
00:05:52because two oh to one one i mean it's the difference in the world yes data i just want to

00:05:57testament to your character liam showing up this morning on this on this morning show after a
00:06:02devastating loss i dipped my toe into into hockey last night incredible game but credit to you man
00:06:08showing up and and and sitting in this seat and after a devastating late loss the stanley the first
00:06:16words i said since probably overtime started were he tried to opt out i said he was opting out as
00:06:24well
00:06:24you know i said thank you to the uber driver that's the first words i said you know who will

00:06:41feeling today anything anything for you boys and anything for hockey man especially the hockey that's
00:06:47being played right now anything to get a little bit of respect in the streets right blunny yeah biz yes
00:06:52um i wish it was on better terms i wish i wish something better happened last night
00:06:58biz before we get into the goalie interference drama your takes takeaways from both last night
00:07:04and these first two incredible games we witnessed well it's i mean obviously game one it felt like
00:07:10carolina let one slip out of their hands and after game one it's like oh this is the vegas team
00:07:16that
00:07:16everybody thought they were um and i thought that that carolina was going to be in knee deep and then
00:07:22the way that game although in game two they carolina had another good start um at least as far as
00:07:29shot
00:07:29volumes concern and like taking over ozone time maybe the grade a chances weren't there but
00:07:36nonetheless a decent start but all of a sudden whammy uh vegas comes out and they get that goal on
00:07:42that
00:07:42high flip play from marner uh one of the biggest stories of these playoffs has been howden uh a guy
00:07:49who was basically given away for a bag of pucks by the new york rangers uh and he has 13
00:07:55goals now
00:07:56in these stanley cup playoffs and he only had 12 in the regular season like there's only i believe
00:08:01seven players throughout the course of history in the stanley cup playoffs over 100 years uh that
00:08:08have scored this is a stat for anyone over 10 goals in the playoffs only only seven times has a
00:08:15player had more in playoffs than the regular season when it's over the amount of 10 so pretty remarkable
00:08:21stat uh he's been absolutely on fire he got them going and then really i would say through the first
00:08:2750 minutes of that game it was kind of like oh my god vegas is going to sweep this series
00:08:32and all of a sudden um probably over the fact that uh one of the key defensemen for vegas got
00:08:39hit in
00:08:39the face with a puck um about halfway through the first period and went down the tunnel ended up leaving
00:08:45the rink and had to go to the hospital or wherever for repairs uh hoping knock on wood hoping brayden
00:08:51mcnab is okay but i felt like vegas going down to basically 4d because they were only playing two
00:08:58pairs after that it eventually wore them down um there was a break in the levy and all of a
00:09:05sudden
00:09:05stan colvin about halfway through the third period scored to make it finally it was 2-1 and then it
00:09:10was
00:09:10bang bang that same flip play that we saw from vegas that they ended up scoring on that first goal
00:09:16um ended up uh coming back to bite them in the ass to tie it up and then all the
00:09:21chaos with the
00:09:22goalie interference ensued but this game really started at the 10 minute mark of the third period
00:09:27which only i think there's only been uh two two goal blown leads in the first two games of the
00:09:34stanley cup playoffs like i actually i don't even know if it's ever been done in the first two games
00:09:38of the stanley cup playoffs yeah it seems like this this series thus far has been like riddled with you
00:09:43know never been done before type of stuff um and you mentioned i mean vegas's defense for as you
00:09:49said 50 minutes felt impenetrable and then or maybe like 45 you can kind of feel it building for
00:09:55carolina uh the breakthrough happens and then you have the insane moment where barbachev's wrapping
00:10:01around it looks like he's going to put vegas back up it's going to be all good that turns into
00:10:06review
00:10:06or towards ends up challenging it because they call goal interference no goal uh i should say
00:10:11careful how we talk about the referee do you know his name liam no i don't want to know his
00:10:15name
00:10:16jean hebert okay let's show some respect to a fellow hebert okay dude i don't want to hear any crap

00:10:22it's not it's not directly his fault okay i'm just making sure the situation room in toronto clearly
00:10:28doesn't want to see mitchy win okay but what do you so yeah let's break it down so so so
00:10:34so there's
00:10:34there's a wraparound goal incredible save scrum at the net goal ends up in the back of the net they
00:10:40call no
00:10:40goal goalie interference towards challenges it they don't win the challenge it ends up becoming
00:10:45a power play that then puts carolina up three two was this the right call did you what about the
00:10:50sequence take us through it so overall i guess got hosed on this play okay so it was a broken
00:10:57play
00:10:58slavin ended up coughing it up and then it was a wraparound play by barbachev okay so i think because
00:11:04it's a broken play the ref is not in a perfect situation to see where the puck is when it
00:11:10goes
00:11:11where it is as you can see it on screen the reason they got hosed is because so barbachev 49
00:11:17he wraps
00:11:18it around and he and he stuffs it the original chance beautiful paddle saved by anderson well the puck
00:11:25stills popped out and barbachev gets another whack at it the place still live so when he gets his second
00:11:33poke at it the puck goes where it is right now yeah so i think from where the ref is
00:11:38is standing
00:11:39when he ends up basically being like all right the play is dead it's it's frozen i can't see it
00:11:47anderson's like over it but it's still very much loose in this area so barbachev pokes at it again so
00:11:54that's the third time he gets the poke but once again it was never frozen there it was it was
00:12:00clear
00:12:00evidence it was a still alive puck but the thing is is that the ref when he loses sight of
00:12:05it he
00:12:06assumes it's frozen that's when he's telling them i i intended to blow the whistle which is a very
00:12:12key moment intent to blow matters intent to blow intent to blow matter no i i heard no no they
00:12:20talked
00:12:20about it on the broadcast it's not when the whistle actually take place like intent does matter sorry
00:12:25which sure you know a whole lot about that there there's a lot of gray area here and there's stuff
00:12:31you know torterel might have wanted to be cognizant of before calling a crucial challenge there with
00:12:37massive ramifications because he's challenging for goaltender interference which there's not
00:12:42interference barbachev because it's still a loose are you sorry take it away yeah go ahead biz
00:12:47well no okay so so that is what the ref in his mind is thinking right his intent was to
00:12:54blow the
00:12:54whistle when he lost sight of it assuming it was frozen and that's why the initial call but it's
00:13:01weird because then the goalie interference comes into play well it's clear he didn't interfere with
00:13:05the goalie because he's poking at a loose puck so the if the ref said that and or upstairs said
00:13:11that
00:13:12they got it wrong so if if the ref goes over to torts and he's saying yeah we're saying no
00:13:18goal
00:13:19because of goalie interference well torts is like well i'm fucking watching this clip with my video guy
00:13:24and you could see the monitors on the bench the video guy's like fucking challenge that absolutely
00:13:32well this is intense boys i'm sorry no no no no no look i know i agree i agree i
00:13:37was just giving you
00:13:37a gentle reminder keep it keep going i'm loving it so so they go upstairs and they're saying no man
00:13:44like he like that was when the initial whistle was supposed to be intended for and he's digging away
00:13:50so i guess they continue with the call where it's like barbachev's just playing a loose puck like like
00:13:55they're like the it's not like the goalie or the defender stopped playing when they when they would
00:14:01have assumed the imaginary whistle was supposed to go yeah like they're just playing hockey so the fact
00:14:07i respect torts for challenging that wit wit and yans assumed maybe because not only that it should
00:14:16have been a goal but also carolina's power play has been junk in this series and really all throughout
00:14:21playoffs where they're clicking i think it they were clicking at 11 percent yeah vegas's power play
00:14:26coming to the series was clicking at 24 so they're like yeah we're challenging this and if if we're wrong
00:14:33we got to go on the kill i still think he's challenging that 10 out of 10 times in which
00:14:37he said at the post game presser so ultimately it led to carolina getting a power play and what did
00:14:43they do they score their first power play goal of the series they go ahead 3-2 but justice was
00:14:49served
00:14:49in the fact that vegas scored to make it 3-3 before the end of regulation but most of vegas
00:14:56would say
00:14:56buddy we would have been up 3-2 we would have put their nuts in a vice and the game
00:15:00would have been over
00:15:01and we'd be up 2-0 going back home which they're not vegas no chance they're losing that series if
00:15:08they're going up 2-0 i got a quick question for the boys here uh i come from the nba
00:15:12universe so
00:15:13i don't know how you can really compare this but this guy brett howden to me from afar i'm trying
00:15:19to
00:15:20compare it to like a guy that's a i don't know there is a comparison eighth or ninth guy off
00:15:25the bench
00:15:25that's averaging eight points a game and all of a sudden he's averaging 22 range like how do you
00:15:30explain what's going on keep in mind like he's he's in a short amount of time developed incredible
00:15:37chemistry with with marner now marner played the regular season at center ice because the current
00:15:43second line center carlson was injured great carlson's a great player he's won a cup there
00:15:50i believe he's an original miss misfit as well right liam yes and he when he came back and got
00:15:57healthy all of a sudden you have howden marner and uh and and i'm drawing a blank on the other
00:16:04guy on
00:16:04the line carlson marner howden carlson marner howden carlson and so he's playing with two elite guys
00:16:12he's got burner speed as as blunny can talk about so now all of a sudden he's playing with two
00:16:18incredible players that have playmaking abilities and his speed and clutch scoring is just kind of
00:16:23taken over yeah i mean there's so many goals brett howden has where he's crashing net front and could
00:16:29get a great angle of the stick on the puck nice little rebound goal clean up in front this isn't
00:16:34like i was talking about this with lukey on my stream last night this isn't like surprising that
00:16:39brett howden is succeeding 13 goals is crazy this guy has been a big time player throughout his vegas career
00:16:46he's got three overtime goals under his belt in the postseason two of them back-to-back years on
00:16:52the same day in game six of the first round overtime and then double overtime brett howden's been a big
00:16:57time player now he's just playing more big time minutes uh he's taking advantage of it rangers fans
00:17:02thought he's one of the worst players in the league if not the worst player in the league when he
00:17:05was in
00:17:05new york all right so we're we're and uh and and going back to bloody's comments marner and him
00:17:10had that chemistry as well on the penalty kill where yeah through the first four rounds i think
00:17:15they had four goals four on their penalty kill and four goals again so they're at an even rate
00:17:21shorthanded i think their pk was over 90 coming in and those two guys are a big component so even
00:17:28when
00:17:28he's not scoring massive goals in which he has uh he he contributes in other areas so uh good for
00:17:35him
00:17:35and i would he was he was 100 to one to win the con smith on draft kings shout out
00:17:42the draft kings
00:17:43crown is yours um to where after he scored those two goals uh back-to-back last night in game
00:17:50uh two
00:17:50he went down to two to one wow damn uh so okay so help me out here boys so two
00:17:57games now in the books
00:17:58it looks like we got a freaking battle on our hands for the rest of this series uh has your
00:18:03outlook or
00:18:04predictions changed biz i think i think what did you have maybe like knights and six originally was
00:18:09it i had knights and six and if they win that game last night for sure they're winning the series
00:18:15i
00:18:15would have said maybe it would have been a sweep maybe in five just from like a demoralizing mental
00:18:20standpoint but the fact that they lose brayden mcnab potentially and they're down a very very important
00:18:28defenseman and it's like people would say oh brayden mcnab he's a defensive defenseman like how
00:18:33could be that that big of a deal well game one he had three assists he can make plays he's
00:18:38an
00:18:38incredible shot blocker one of the best in the league and defensively he just his reads and his
00:18:45tendencies and who he plays with it just helps them flow like vegas doesn't allow anything to the inside
00:18:52so if he's out for if he's out for a couple games here i it's it's back to a 50
00:19:0050 coin flip in my
00:19:01opinion i don't know what liam thinks and i mean even when you're getting the final word yeah even
00:19:06with mcnab coming back i i think like personally just as a hockey fan i think he'll be back game
00:19:12three
00:19:12and just wear the bowl but coming back and playing with the bowl is extremely difficult yeah i've actually
00:19:17played hockey like biz could talk more in depth about that the the thing that eats away at me
00:19:23is our big time like wow vegas did it again how'd they get this player acquisition of the year
00:19:29rasmus anderson i we're talking about vegas being up 2-0 in the series if he just puts the puck
00:19:34up the
00:19:34wall on the boards and gets a clear and instead he gets ripped by stink open because he's trying
00:19:38that's what happens though when you lose an important play correct when you lose an important d-man
00:19:43all of a sudden other guys are starting to lug a few like more minutes and the way that carolina
00:19:48plays it wears you down so fatigue sets in well when you don't have enough oxygen going to your brain
00:19:53those are where those little mistakes start happening where that was a clean one draw he goes to the
00:19:59to the weak side and he just needs to throw it up the wall like all right boys well hey

00:20:05was uh that was an incredible breakdown of the games thus far it's an incredible series we got plenty

00:21:38your major game one takeaways listen i i think a lot of people are coming away from that game being
00:21:43like
00:21:43this is a nicks series to to lose at this point and i don't totally disagree however i if the
00:21:49spurs
00:21:49just hold on to that lead which the nba is notorious for you can be up 25 and and lose
00:21:58the game
00:21:59uh it i don't know i i i still think the spurs are going to take this series i think
00:22:05they take game two
00:22:06at home and wendy did not play well at all but at the same time jalen brunson didn't play very
00:22:12well i
00:22:12know he had 30 points but he shot what 10 for 12 for 30 or something yeah so he wasn't
00:22:18efficient but
00:22:19until it mattered classic jalen brunson right and it kind of felt like the nicks figured it out in
00:22:25the last you know two quarters but i still think wendy is going to turn it on i and i
00:22:32know that
00:22:32the nicks had all this time to recover and kind of hang out until the until game one and maybe
00:22:39that
00:22:39played a part where it's why they had yeah i felt like you could feel that at the end right
00:22:43i think
00:22:43the spurs might have been a little bit tired but i think wendy just he has that he has that
00:22:48dog in
00:22:49him and i think he's going to have one of these games soon where it's like oh wow he had
00:22:5242 and 20
00:22:54rebounds and maybe that's game two i don't know if it's at home that would be ideal i think if

00:23:00can just get it to 1-1 and then at the garden you know anything can happen i'm assuming the

00:25:02has been locked in this entire playoff run away games home games he's at every game chalamet engaging
00:25:10in a little self-care look at our guys people underestimate the wear and tear on the body of
00:25:16a fan throughout the playoff self-care is important he's icing up the knees oh he's got some

00:26:19game two to me there's elements like okay like will will mitch johnson maybe ride the hot of hand
00:26:26like he takes out dear or excuse me he takes out dylan harper who's on fire plays dm fox doesn't

00:26:31well like some changes like that to me but to me i'm really focused on carl anthony towns yeah uh
00:26:37and
00:26:37i loved his comments after game one to most heartwarming comments you're ever gonna hear about
00:26:42about how at peace he was and he felt like he felt his mother who passed during covid he felt
00:26:46like
00:26:46she was with him and he felt like he was at his a you like he was just filled with
00:26:49positive energy
00:26:50can he carry that forward because he played great offensively but defensively he really shined
00:26:56against wimby and i want to see what adjustments that's not what he's known for no i know he is
00:27:02he's honestly for years now he's kind of been like a sieve as a center and he's just known to
00:27:08be more of
00:27:09an offensive player so i mean he's stepping up at the right time and and it's it's nice to see
00:27:14because
00:27:14you know carl anthony towns is one of those guys that you it's it's hard not to root for him
00:27:19so
00:27:20again as a celtics fan this is tough because these knicks are like a they are an easy team to
00:27:25root for
00:27:26i just don't like the knicks fan base man i don't mind the team the knicks it's the fan base

00:59:14he's he's battling you know his own addictions he's he's trying to better himself and whatnot um
00:59:20and his eligibility is is up in the air so first i i want to ask you about bernard soresby

00:59:27you at with him and and what's your stance on uh his potential to play this fall yeah you know

00:59:33waiting right now um you know he monday uh they had the uh injunction hearing and we're waiting to hear
00:59:39what the the uh judge says man you know we're starting to get to know each other guys but i've
00:59:45been doing this for 32 years and i'm a player's coach i mean i wake up every single morning and

00:59:50first thing on my mind when my feet hit the floor is how am i going to make these guys
00:59:53better men
00:59:54better football players and uh if you come play at tech or you played at cedar hill if you played
01:00:00at crowley or at baylor then you're stuck with me for the rest of your life and he's going through
01:00:05some real stuff man i'm glad you said that the addiction part uh if you just read anything about
01:00:11what he's done uh it's almost the numbers and the amount and all as far as not the money but
01:00:17the bets
01:00:19it's it's crazy and and he's going through a lot of stuff and i just man i can't imagine um
01:00:25you know
01:00:25how he feels and the embarrassment and everything like that yeah you know the one thing that that
01:00:30one thing i do want to say because i've read a lot about a lot of people and i understand
01:00:34i totally
01:00:35understand where people are coming from you know but i hear some people talk about that addicts like
01:00:41he didn't do get help until uh people found out about it like not most addicts there's an external
01:00:49pressure to get help like something happened in your life whether that's how it worked was an
01:00:55alcoholic he went to uh rehab because his wife was going my aunt was going to divorce him you know
01:01:01and
01:01:01so that stuff pressures that so it's not like he was trying to get out of anything when it comes
01:01:08to
01:01:08this injunction what he was trying to do is you know heal himself from a serious addiction i mean
01:01:13if you just redo some of that stuff i mean turkish basketball i didn't even know that was a sport
01:01:18yeah yeah no i mean it's it look it's it's it's real thing and as you said it's like that's
01:01:23the
01:01:23classic addiction rhythm where yeah it builds it builds it builds you have to have that kind of
01:01:28cratering moment and then you rebuild from there which i hope swords me whether he gets a player
01:01:32not this year i hope you know rebuilds and can see he is nfl dream through and whatnot
01:01:38yeah i got to see him yesterday man and it's the best that he's been since all this started
01:01:43just as far as um just this the way he's speaking the way is you know just everything i mean
01:01:49i you
01:01:49could tell that his his mind's in a really good spot no matter what happens great good yeah that's
01:01:55great to hear because i i played with him for a couple years in indiana and when we were together
01:02:00i mean he was one of my closest teammates in the locker room on the field i mean before all
01:02:05this kind
01:02:06of happened how did you see his development like as a leader as a locker room guy because
01:02:11every time i was with him in the locker room he was you know a loud personality he loved talking
01:02:16to
01:02:16guys he loved getting to know his receivers his dbs like everything's like what did you kind of see
01:02:21from from brendan early on when he got to tech well you know i was really proud of him because
01:02:27you
01:02:27know most alpha males most quarterbacks especially you know they come in and insert themselves and
01:02:32we have some really strong leaders you know we've got 12 returning starters and and then you know and
01:02:38so he really came in and navigated uh his way in position instead of just stepping in and trying to
01:02:46take over but he did it with that personality that you're talking about and he's such an incredible
01:02:50he's an incredible human uh i have not known him other than he threw for 440 yards against us
01:02:57whenever we played him two years ago um and then recruiting him but i've known his dad since 2003
01:03:04and man just a great family and uh he's a good he's a good guy but man there was a
01:03:10point in and this is
01:03:12high praise and sometimes i'd i do this maybe too much and stuff to live up to but there was
01:03:18a point
01:03:18he pulled the ball down and took off running during spring football and i was like man maybe that's what
01:03:23josh allen looks like because he's 240 pounds it means 200 oh i didn't realize he was that big he's
01:03:29a thick boy oh yeah he can roll yeah i mean he can flat out run i knew you could
01:03:34run all right coach
01:03:35well lynn let's talk about some more uh fun stuff then that i absolutely adored outside looking in
01:03:40we all know how football crazy texas as a state is and these touchdown clubs those are big stages
01:03:47so coach shark gets up there the houston touchdown club and he's referencing another team in texas
01:03:54that he would say you know i could play my twos my threes on that schedule and take care of
01:03:59business
01:03:59obviously talking about y'all and you said all right well then let's prove it okay yeah buy out our
01:04:04first
01:04:05game let's square up with one other have you have you actually had these conversations like how
01:04:09or have you put effort into making this this game one happen well uh i had communication with uh
01:04:17keith patterson and gj kenny because the one thing that i that you know if you go back and and
01:04:22y'all
01:04:22have had me on the show but if you watch any of my if you watch any of my press
01:04:26conferences or
01:04:27anything like that i kind of shoot from the hip yeah and uh i didn't shoot from the hip in

01:04:54south dallas uh for
01:04:5520 years and that's donkeyville de soto cedar hill south oak cliff i mean just kind of the mecca of
01:05:02dallas fort worth football and athletes and you know one thing that the the one thing that we
01:05:07always said man in that area you can't get pumped like if somebody's going to talk about you man you
01:05:11better be ready to respond and uh that was it man i i what people understand is man i i
01:05:17have a lot of
01:05:18respect for sark i mean i if you listen to whatever i've talked about him i've talked about what kind
01:05:23of
01:05:23play caller he is and everything like that anytime we've been around each other we've always talked
01:05:28but man i'm not gonna let somebody call us out and then at the end of the day i'm not
01:05:32gonna let
01:05:32somebody say our twos and threes you know can win the big 12 you know what's great touchdown clubs
01:05:38every once in a while you will have a reporter there that you don't know that it's there yeah i
01:05:42actually don't you know doing a touchdown club and there was a texas reporter that was there
01:05:48reporting on what i was going to say after the fact so there was another thing that came out
01:05:53uh about us in texas off of that that touchdown club and so it's talking season right now guys oh
01:06:01yeah everybody's yeah hungry for football and you're trying to get it stirred up but
01:06:04you know i i know that he feels good about his team and i feel really good about my team
01:06:10and in the
01:06:11state of texas man it would be great for texas and texas tech to play uh i think that would
01:06:18be just an
01:06:19electric atmosphere and man we're all for it we we would love to play the university she's got me
01:06:24fired up i know i love that i i agree and and it's such a credit coach to what you're
01:06:30all building
01:06:31at texas tech that these are even the conversations taking place now right and that yeah that is the
01:06:35level you attain and it's really throughout the entirety of the school i mean look at texas tech
01:06:40and texas battling on the softball diamond again i mean back to back natty natty matchups
01:06:45um you guys can i tell you this yeah you guys will absolutely love this so in my first year
01:06:51in
01:06:522022 we beat them in overtime we beat texas in overtime i was there and my guy that does all
01:06:57our
01:06:57social media and our video they they record our you know our pre-game speeches and our post-game
01:07:03speeches and usually he asked me hey do you want this out and he didn't he got so fired up
01:07:09and so my
01:07:10statement in the locker room that you know uh texas fans have raked me over the coals for
01:07:16is everything runs through lubbock and the point was i don't care what logo you have on your jersey
01:07:21you're going to have to play texas tech with and we could get our butts kicked but you're going to
01:07:25know you're in a football game oh yeah and last night texas tech social their athletic social media
01:07:33after we got beat and hats off to them and softball i'm so proud of our girls in softball i
01:07:39mean
01:07:39they are rock stars but their social media said i guess everything runs through austin
01:07:47that's see i love that stuff yeah that's the good stuff man like i want stuff stirred up man like
01:07:53you're dealing with 18 to 20 year olds that they they they're live off emotion and and stuff that
01:07:59can fire them up so i'm going to use that so if we're lucky enough to play in the playoffs
01:08:03and
01:08:04they're lucky enough to play in the playoffs and we get to play texas then we're going to find out
01:08:08if it runs through austin or through lubbock coach uh uh obviously we have a little bit of history

01:09:02not feel the same way but the transfer portals are always open yeah yeah you know uh we have uh

01:09:10upped our nil deals hey yeah i would cody campbell is something all the way in man so you know

01:09:17could renegotiate see where we can go with this you never know i'm a big 12 guy and in like

01:09:22transfer portal you never know uh yeah coach i'm almost required to ask you about this but there's
01:09:29so much discussion about expanded playoff right now uh where where where do you fall in it good
01:09:35for the sport bad for the sport inevitability like like how do we feel about the expanded playoff
01:09:40well one if you look at what would be projected last year man there was some great games like i
01:09:46mean there was some really good games i think if you would have gone home games the university of
01:09:52texas out of that bracket actually would have had to come to lubbock and play and so that would have
01:09:56been great the thing for me is i don't think you should be playing football january 20th 25th in
01:10:04like that that makes no sense to me that that this is happening and so whenever i i'm 424 because
01:10:11i
01:10:11think it forces us back to the table to try to get the calendar under control i mean signetti who's
01:10:18an
01:10:18absolute stud man i'm a big fan of him um he's the only guy that's been able to negotiate a
01:10:2425 day
01:10:24layoff he's the only guy that's been able to want win it's not even a buy like you're restarting i
01:10:31mean
01:10:3125 days is how many days you get during camp so like if we're fortunate enough and we end up
01:10:37with
01:10:37that many day layoff we've already said we're starting camp all the way back over like we're
01:10:42starting from install one and we're not going to be concerned to who we're playing it's more like how
01:10:47good can we get i thought we're in good shape and man we went out and laid an egg literally
01:10:52i mean
01:10:52literally it's just you know we couldn't put anything on the board against oregon and you know
01:10:57all the momentum of winning the big 12 was gone you're you're out of rhythm you're trying to keep
01:11:03your team healthy but you got to be physical in practice to get ready for a game it just doesn't
01:11:08make sense so to me whatever happens to make the calendar right that's what we need to do more than
01:11:15anything and what's holding us back right now is is the cfp and it's really not even the cfp committee
01:11:21it's the contracts that we've signed right now and i think they need to be redone mikey coach um
01:11:28switching gears to this upcoming season you know coming off spring ball now we're in this summer
01:11:34weird period where it's a lot of the players on their own with the strength staff what are some
01:11:39things that maybe you want to improve from spring ball going into fall camp or some things that you're
01:11:45just looking forward to getting the team back on track for fall camp like what are some things that
01:11:49you're looking forward to yeah you know one of our biggest things and it goes back to indiana
01:11:54man i know you're indiana guy so i'm gonna brag on that team but like they're as close to perfect
01:11:59the team wise as far as situational football as possible you know our number one part of the plan
01:12:05to win is don't beat yourself and we were absolutely horrible in pre-snap penalties um i wish i had
01:12:11it in
01:12:11front of me it's on my desk but i wish i had in front of me you know just like
01:12:15even pre-snap penalties
01:12:16in the red zone which forced us to not be really good in the red zone and so starting next
01:12:21week our
01:12:22sports psychologist is going to meet with each group and he dr weston actually told me he said
01:12:28man i think i can really make some uh hey whenever it comes to some of the stuff that you
01:12:34are trying to
01:12:35fix and so they've got a 30 minute period with each position group so they're all split up uh for
01:12:42the
01:12:42next six weeks it all starts next week and so just trying to find ways to be better to where
01:12:48we got to cut down the pre-snap penalties you know i think that's a big part of it that's
01:12:52that's
01:12:52one thing and then we got to find a way to duplicate that defense to where you know we had
01:12:5740 plus sacks and we led the country in turnovers i mean we've got to be able to do that
01:13:01again so we've
01:13:02got to make that an important part of what we do which we will uh you know there's no doubt
01:13:07that
01:13:07that we'll do that but it's going to look different we don't have a david bailey we have two really
01:13:12good edges and adam trick and trey white but you know i don't know if we have a second overall
01:13:17pick
01:13:17so we've got to find a way to get to the quarterback in different ways well because i i can't
01:13:22wait to
01:13:22watch this fall it's going to be incredibly exciting on the way out here though i got to ask you
01:13:26to
01:13:26settle an in-house debate that dana uh brought up earlier so we were talking pages we're talking drake may
01:13:32they just signed a.j brown right and dana was saying he has a take that he thinks okay let's
01:13:37say you have a young quarterback i'll ask you i won't give you the take you have a young quarterback
01:13:40what helps that young quarterback more uh adding a great o lineman or adding a great receiver i'm
01:13:46always going to go a line
01:13:50like you know our deal our deal is big people meet up beat up little people and mass kicks ass
01:13:55like
01:13:55if you go back and you look at the reason we were where we were i mean no doubt we
01:14:02had great skill but we made such an improvement in our offensive line and defensive line personnel
01:14:10and um that affected the game and we do you know we we invested heavily again um retaining the right
01:14:17guys i mean we had we have three guys two of them could have got drafted last year then our
01:14:24whole line
01:14:24that decided to come back and so you know that's a that's a huge part i mean skills great but

01:16:33absolutely fantastic storylines abound it's amazing it's it's the most exciting finals we've had in a
01:16:38while now um i know what's your key to tonight like based on what we learned game one what are

01:16:46elements that you think will decide uh game number two here well like with every game the spurs play
01:16:52how victor comes out and how he plays is going to determine how they do in this game he was
01:16:56low energy
01:16:57from the beginning of game one it's not an excuse i mean it's everybody's job to show up so i'm
01:17:02not
01:17:02saying oh well you know not his fault but he has got to figure out a rest and recovery plan
01:17:07between
01:17:08these games because they did just come off this grueling physical crazy series with oklahoma city
01:17:13and you could see it i mean not fighting his way to the paint just not really having the usual
01:17:18force
01:17:18that he has offensively on that side he is going to have to come out and give us one of
01:17:23those
01:17:23performances we saw maybe in alternate games of the western conference finals but that's not going to cut
01:17:27it when you need to win four out of the next six and we're going to have to see him
01:17:31start that
01:17:31in this game too tonight yeah rachel if you look at game one the thing that stuck out to me
01:17:37was
01:17:37the defense of carl anthony towns and he's not exactly known as uh you know a rim protector or
01:17:44somebody that's gonna stand tall in the middle of the lane so what did you see out of cat and
01:17:49what was
01:17:50it that made him so effective on defense yeah just physically having a body there it wasn't that he was
01:17:55like you know meeting him at the rim he was bringing him much further out and just extremely
01:18:00responsible play from carl anthony towns people who followed his career i've known carl since he
01:18:05was a rookie there have been times in his career where he is so foul prone right that no matter
01:18:11what
01:18:11he does out there he gets himself into trouble and he didn't do that he hasn't been doing that for
01:18:16most of this playoffs he didn't do it in game one and was able to stay on the floor and
01:18:21the combination
01:18:21of him and mitchell robinson was just a lot more effective than the combination of victor and luke
01:18:27cornet and they have again got to figure out a way to either stay even in the luke cornet minutes
01:18:33or have victor webinama play even more which i'm not sure that they can physically do with him right
01:18:38now so as long as mitch robinson and carl anthony towns are able to do their jobs they don't have
01:18:43to
01:18:43be spectacular they just have to be extremely diligent and we saw that from carl especially i loved his
01:18:50attitude after the game i'm sure you guys saw what he said about his mom i knew his mom very
01:18:54well she
01:18:55was just such an ebullient like just cheerful all the time just a really happy woman and and i agree
01:19:01with carl man she is smiling somewhere uh this week because her boy has done so well so rachel you've
01:19:07covered uh you you've covered so many of these series so in depth and and like you said you have
01:19:10relationships with the coaches and the players and and so and so you have a a deep understanding of the
01:19:15kind of punch counterpunch nature of of these series so i'm excited to see what the kind of
01:19:21schemes they come up with are but what about something as simple as the the dylan harper
01:19:27d'arron fox drama from game number one where harper's on fire but you know fox is a big money
01:19:32guy you brought him in for this reason you go with harper or you go with fox in the fourth
01:19:35doesn't work
01:19:36out is that something that you think mitch johnson maybe looks to change here going forward and maybe
01:19:41ride the hot hand a bit more yeah i certainly do i think if he had that to do over
01:19:45again he might
01:19:46make a different decision look darren fox has a high ankle sprain you guys know we hear we see this
01:19:51more in football right than basketball and football this can knock guys out for weeks and weeks it's not
01:19:56something basketball players typically play through um he has obviously been doing that for the last two
01:20:01or three weeks you can see it he's not the same player and uh i think they need to recognize

01:20:07move forward the problem is he is the one they brought in not just for that position but to be
01:20:12their closer in these last five minutes of games i mean he is a clutch player he's always in
01:20:17conversations for those kinds of awards and you need a guard to be able to do that that sort of
01:20:22nba
01:20:23wisdom of a big man can't be your closer there is something to that and so they need him to
01:20:27go out
01:20:28and do the job that they hired him for basically but he's injured right now and i think you're right
01:20:32i
01:20:32think they're gonna have to take that more into account rachel i'm not a basketball guy i'm more
01:20:36of a football guy but watching the game tonight other than you're a lego guy lego beer guy um just
01:20:45the fat i want to get it straight i want to understand yeah legos beers kind of things like
01:20:50that um watching the game tonight other than women yama you know creating this dominance for the spurs
01:20:58give me two keys for whoever's going to win the game tonight that i can look out for not being

01:21:04basketball guy well i would say um just sort of how disciplined the knicks are you know early in
01:21:10that game of game one they were kind of losing themselves partly with calls with the officials
01:21:14i don't know if you heard mike brown say that jalen brunson's dad rick who is of course an assistant
01:21:19on the staff had to pull everyone aside and say basically shut the bleep up just play our game you
01:21:26are you guys are throwing this away so they have got to be able to do stuff like that because
01:21:30for the
01:21:31knicks to play against this first team they have to be exactly precise and if they can do that they
01:21:36will give themselves a chance going into the fourth quarter which by the way is my other key if this
01:21:41game is close with eight minutes to go or less jalen brunson is a menace and i just say this
01:21:48every
01:21:48game that the knicks get into a close game in the fourth quarter it's like an auto retweet it's like
01:21:53i wouldn't do it i wouldn't stay in a close game with jalen brunson toward the end of the game
01:21:57he is able to create phone booth size space and then work in that space in a way that frankly
01:22:03again i don't think the spurs were really prepared for so it is going to be a back and forth
01:22:08miss
01:22:09johnson is an excellent coach he was on a bunch of coach of the year ballots he is absolutely going
01:22:13to
01:22:13have a response i'm not denigrating his work and his staff but let's not forget pop is also in that
01:22:18building and fully capable of talking about ways to get victor more involved to get the guards to
01:22:23churn more in the paint so victor can get down there more and do what he does best on the
01:22:27other
01:22:28hand though mike brown is a really really good coach and i know he wasn't the knicks first choice
01:22:33right remember they went after jason kidd they went after all kinds of people and he was sort of like
01:22:37i guess we're going to have mike brown mike brown has been to numerous finals one as a head coach
01:22:42but
01:22:42numerous with the golden state warriors as an associate coach or an assistant coach i actually was with
01:22:47mike in 2007 when he took the cleveland clavaliers lebron james first nba finals um you know i was
01:22:54covering that team and i was asking him what he had learned uh you know between that finals and this
01:22:59finals because you know it's been 19 years guys i have only aged one year but it's been 19 years
01:23:04and he has picked up so much from the teams he has been on so i expect a lot of
01:23:09adjustments when
01:23:10you're saying what am i looking for tonight i expect a lot of adjustments tonight too from both sides
01:23:14so we saw jalen brunson um kind of play through a little bit of injury in game one and the
01:23:19thing
01:23:20that stuck out to me was he only took four foul shots and do you think that's a result of
01:23:26just the
01:23:26wemby effect do you think it's the refs letting him play do you think it's you know any combination
01:23:32of that is does he have to be more aggressive getting to the foul line and obviously he didn't
01:23:38shoot great but what is it about um you know brunson that you saw in game one jalen brunson doesn't
01:23:43have to do anything else once you win a basketball game pretty much you know i wouldn't say single
01:23:47handedly because a lot of the nicks had a part in that but i think jalen brunson is doing just
01:23:51fine with what he is doing um you know the refs are definitely calling this a little bit looser
01:23:55than they did at parts of the last series that we saw i think there was a lot of backlash
01:24:00about just
01:24:01sort of you know the game keeps stopping the game keeps stopping the nba wants to keep that game
01:24:05moving um but the nicks in general missed a lot of shots if you're a new york fan i would
01:24:10be very
01:24:11confident going in that a lot of the offensive sort of positions that the coaches put this team
01:24:15in they're actually going to turn out better tonight in game two so it's going to be up to
01:24:20the spurs to see if they can stop them from getting going but the next actually in brunson's
01:24:24one of them who didn't deliver in the way we often see that he does throughout the game it just
01:24:29happens
01:24:30in the fourth quarter that man delivers every single time and we saw it again uh rachel have
01:24:35you had a chance yet to see uh timothy chalamet in real life i have i was about a foot
01:24:41and a half
01:24:42from him uh when he walked in for game one i had no idea i was standing in the timothy
01:24:46chalamet zone
01:24:46and there he was right up right right up next to me as he walked by is it could you
01:24:51feel the aura
01:24:51radio like which which nick celebrity it's it's a star-studded cast it is nick celebrity casts the uh the
01:24:58biggest wake trailing behind him look i'm old school and i've been around the garden i lived in new
01:25:04york for 20 years i've covered this knicks franchise up and down and off and on for for so
01:25:09long and so i'm an old school spike lee kind of gal for personally i think you got to go
01:25:14with you
01:25:14know the guy he actually i got to induct spike lee into the basketball hall of fame last year um
01:25:20because uh just of his super fan status and it was really fun experience on all the way around i
01:25:26mean
01:25:26he's just the guy i'm sorry ben stiller people who've been there for so long timothy chalamet seems
01:25:31like a lovely young man however i have to say if you are a long-suffering knicks fan let's say
01:25:37you're
01:25:3750 years old you live in new york they've never won a title in your lifetime you have lived through
01:25:43so many things latrell spiegel all the way back and and then so you know the last time the knicks
01:25:48were in
01:25:48the final charlie ward a heisman trophy winner was their was their point guard right mikey you have lived
01:25:53through a lot of things that were just not as they should have been and there you are your team
01:25:58is
01:25:58finally in the finals again looks like they have a chance to win it you can't get into the garden
01:26:04to see your team because tickets are so crazy expensive but kylie jenner man who became a knicks
01:26:09fan yesterday is right there so you know i don't know what the karmic gods have for that i did

01:26:16when timothy walked into the building in game one he was by himself there was no kylie um i assume

01:26:22will see her at the garden uh for games three and four but man if i'm a lifelong devoted knicks
