00:00of travel ball from virginia this group right was from virginia and she said for the next two weeks
00:06they travel throughout the southeast i can tell you a million things wrong with youth sports i
00:10can talk about the cost i can talk about the overbearing coaches i could have our parents
00:14you know sipping on a uh um whatever they're sipping on in the stands and not behaving
00:20themselves i can talk about the lack of sportsmanship we can talk about you know all
00:24kinds of different elements that um you know are troubling right not the least of which is just
00:32you know losing uh the parents losing perspective like time and time again but i will say and my
00:39comment was on twitter and i'll pull up some of the comments and responses that 90 percent of folks
00:45that are going through it now i'm not saying 90 percent have the right attitude it may not be as
00:50type and 90 love it i don't think there's a lot of parents saying this is a drag i gotta
00:55leave on
00:56a thursday morning and i gotta drive five hours and i gotta stay in a a motel or hotel and
01:01you know
01:02i gotta be at games all day long and a lot of this bow is one parent and so i
01:07was looking around this
01:08morning this girl first of all these women are fit they are working at the gym they are at the
01:13pool
01:14and if it's the dad also like they are loving this these aren't these aren't slobs no they but a
01:20lot
01:20of times you know a parent has to stay back obviously somebody's got to work for a living
01:24but do you see that too and there and there are other kids that don't get that also have stuff
01:28that's what i see more than anything especially with my girls is that i have girls that have older
01:33brothers younger brothers in a lot of cases and the parents sometimes don't get to enjoy games of the
01:38other siblings right because they're all over the place you're right i see a lot of splitting of
01:41duties tell the age group that you coach uh 12 you travel softball travel softball so yeah and
01:47y'all are tweeting and i'd love to hear from you 404-726-0929 like steak said good bad and
01:53ugly but
01:54i think most of it's gonna be good the other part of this steak is so interesting is the toy
01:58story
01:58franchise number five comes out not this friday i believe next friday it is all around the up and
02:06coming of the tablet and the internet so as folks stop to play with toys so that's the that's the
02:12storyline i gotta see i think i cried after three what's the one when he drives down the street and
02:17he leaves his toys once and for all was that toy story three i think in three he was going
02:22to college
02:22and bonnie inherits the toys yes so four i heard is a tearjerker right fours yeah they're all good
02:29they're all i've loved all what a franchise it is about it whoever wrote toy story five is really
02:35genius so the first one comes out like 1991 i'm in high school but a lot of parents with kids
02:41right
02:41now we're playing with toys or getting just getting past that so now 30 years later you have woody with
02:49a bald spot all the toys that are being played with yeah are now being pushed aside for electronic
02:54devices which is what exactly what's going on in every family right now dude you've got me sold
03:00so you're attracting kids to the toy story you're also attracting parents there's a little bit of
03:05nostalgia going on and like i want to see it because that's exactly what happens in my house yeah i'm
03:10fighting with that freaking tablet i love you said nostalgia because you want to talk about something
03:13that's trending up from the pizza hut to your music michael jackson it's everything all the hacky sack
03:19we talked about great point papa john's is actually getting on board with toy story also they've
03:24transformed like select locations now we're talking about los angeles soul london into pizza planets
03:30they have full-on transformed papa john's stand-up stores into pop-up pizza planets which is the
03:36pizza franchise in toy story right they've got toy story i just so smart you know when you have really
03:42talented smart people writers film creators that now are going to tackle the notion of technology and how
03:48freaking scary and bad it is so listen at the top of the list 404-726-0929 at the top
03:56of the list
03:56i'll put uh being in your car with your kids although i will say this is an issue with bobby
04:03to a degree is he's got those bows you know with best gift we ever gave him was like two
04:07years ago
04:07those headphones and we're in a car together i was like bro i'm not sitting next to you when you're
04:12on
04:12those headphones we are going to have a conversation for you you know like come on dude like you know
04:18because when my girls it was like they get to control some of the radio or some of the what
04:22we're going to play so you got to be careful about that but for the most part it's the it's
04:26the ride to
04:26where you're going it's the uh it's the time at hotel rooms it's the massive amount of hours you're
04:33off your phone especially if coaches can help uh police that um it's just like you know we have to
04:41do something to combat the massive technology crush that is just hurting kids on so many ways
04:48and limits on the technology do you have a time limit or did you when they were younger and no
04:54i don't get any credit a lot of my friends when those kids were younger there was a 30 minute
04:59or
04:59one hour and that's if they could pull it off god bless them it's funny guy i listen to all
05:03the
05:03time scott chamberlain who i love he's got a great podcast super interesting in terms of uh and he just
05:08is like dude i i can preach all you want but i have failed when it comes to really sticking
05:13to it i think
05:14a lot of parents the beat down of trying to get better about technology is part of it but listen
05:18you
05:19know there's a lot to complain about with youth sports but i think for the most part if if you
05:26understand a summer of travel with your kids can be creating incredible memories listen the best for
05:32me is camp because at camp there are zero phones you go to overnight camp you don't have a phone
05:38they
05:38don't allow it yeah so you're and you're not communicating with your parents either you are in
05:43a bunk for four weeks or seven weeks or however many weeks with zero technology tons of competition
05:50real connection with kids because you're sleeping in that like that to me is the apex if you can
05:56afford it and if you find a good camp because that absolutely is the flashback to what every
06:02kid at camp goes through yeah bunks may be a little nicer cabins may not be as as uh you
06:08know rural but
06:09uh but it's short of that there's a lot for travel ball 404-726-0929 she was she went on
06:16and on about
06:16um the lady i was talking to this morning about how much their kids love the hotels oh my god
06:21biggest
06:22kick out all they want to do is when they're gut they want to go jump in the pool they
06:25brought in
06:26pizzas there's pizza boxes every night lobby and by the way these kids are all in shape and off they
06:32go and and they'll be out she said we'll leave this morning at 10 we will not be back tonight
06:37till
06:37eight o'clock at night and they'll love every every second minute of it we have a phone call we
06:41need to
06:42go to uh or not 404-726-0929 if you maybe you have another perspective maybe travel ball was a
06:49was a
06:50grind for you maybe uh the cost certainly is something that really puts your family in harm's
06:55way that that for sure is trying to unravel listen if we come back uh it was 30 years ago
07:03sandra we
07:03would just figure out a way to be attached to youth sports 100 we'd be attached to youth sports at
07:07every corner because the amount of money that is poured into that right now because parents have
07:11zero limit it feels like when it comes to thinking their kid is going to go from batting eighth to
07:16batting fifth in the order it's just going to cost me a little bit of money or maybe in being
07:20maybe
07:20instead of being on the sixth soccer team they'll be on the fourth soccer team i mean where bobby plays
07:27soccer i mean he's a nice soccer player we were proud of him he got called up to varsity this
07:31year
07:32it was a freshman got to play in the uh tournament he's a nice player he's like fourth or fifth
07:39in
07:39terms of his uh like there's four or five levels above him on the same you're not unrealistic about
07:46it you know that that's that's why no and my point was like you know we think he's doing fine
07:51there's 80 kids and just in that group that are right that are that that that are all playing above
07:56him yeah and he's fine with it and is what it is and he's not playing d1 soccer and none
08:01of that
08:01stuff's going to happen but you know the way people worry about oh he should be on the fourth
08:06team not the fifth team or he how's he going to move from the sixth team seriously how's your coach
08:12do you like the families is there good carpool parents that you don't have to like these are
08:17things i worry about at the ballpark yeah we're having fun
