00:00Video shows Interior Secretary John Vic Remulia appearing to block 18 alleged former Marines as they were entering the Senate
00:06Thursday, June 4.
00:08This as Senators Pia Cayetano and Robin Padilla were fetching the men from the building entrance to bring them to
00:14the Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on flood control corruption.
00:30I never thought the day would come that somebody would prevent me from entering the Senate. This is my office.
00:37This is the Senate. This is the halls of democracy.
00:41Remulia denies he was trying to prevent the alleged former soldiers from attending the proceedings. He says he was caught
00:46off guard by the large group and had adopted a defensive stance.
00:50He says he was at the Senate to ensure peace between opposing rallyists outside the building and to speak with
00:55Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian about securing the area.
01:00Unang polis dito. I was alone. I came here alone. I was almost trapped on the path.
01:07And tignan lang, takas-takas pa katamang ko kahit kinakaya ko naman.
01:12Cayetano says she had to personally collect her resource persons from the entrance because Senate staff were holding them.
01:17All this due to confusion from the tug of war between the Senate's opposing factions as Cayetano and her allies
01:23cling to their posts despite the leadership change.
