00:00Now, Bloomberg understands some members of the Glazer family, we're talking football,
00:03are debating whether to sell their stake in Manchester United Football Club after more than 20 years of ownership.
00:09Now, with more details, Bloomberg's Tiwa Adebayo is here.
00:12Tiwa, we're all obsessed. We're all football bad because of the World Cup.
00:15So there are, well, we understand, so Bloomberg's group, there are internal discussions.
00:19What do we actually know about the Glazer family?
00:22Well, that's right, Francine.
00:23In Bloomberg exclusive today, there are these initial talks about whether or not to exit from Manchester United.
00:30For the Glazer family.
00:31In terms of the family itself, they're worth about $10 billion.
00:35They've got interest in other sports teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:38But these are just initial talks, and there are said to be some members of the family that are against
00:43this,
00:44and you'd need their support if a sale were to take place.
00:47But this is really crucial because that 20-year tenure for the Glazer family at Manchester United,
00:52it's one of the longest in English football history.
00:55This is also quite a crucial time for Manchester United.
00:58There's talks about upgrading the famous Old Trafford Stadium.
01:01That could cost billions of dollars, but it's also something that a big football club needs.
01:06We've seen that happen with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur recently.
01:09And, of course, we should mention, sorry to any Man United fans,
01:11they've had some mixed performances recently, got rid of a manager this season.
01:15So a crucial time for the club and for the company as well.
01:18So how much interest would there be if these shares are offered for sale?
01:22Well, the last time that there was a sale like this talked about in 1998,
01:27we had the likes of Rupert Murdoch interested in Manchester United.
01:31So there's likely to be a lot of interest both on the Middle Eastern side.
01:34We've seen the success of the Qatari sports investment arm of their sovereign wealth fund with PSG.
01:39They've had great success there.
01:41And also the likes of other wealthy U.S. families.
01:44The Cronkies at Arsenal have had, again, good success there.
01:48So we'll see quite a lot of interest.
01:50But it's likely to come at quite a steep price.
01:53Interest in M&As like these has been growing recently.
01:56So whoever gets to own this club,
01:58if-
