00:00From three, two, one.
00:15Welcome to the Energy Transition Conference 20.
00:20National Energy Transition Roadmap.
00:22Now, stemming from the states of Hormuz,
00:27the epicenter is nowhere near here,
00:32but its tremors rumble across the entire region,
00:36straining the supply lines that feed industries and power homes,
00:42and triggering energy emergencies in ASEAN, neighboring countries,
00:48and in fact, the ramifications throughout the world.
00:54It is a stark reminder that our world is intrinsically interconnected.
01:01And in the face of global geopolitical uncertainty,
01:05we are all equally exposed to external vulnerabilities.
01:10This crisis compares us to confront the reality that fossil fuels,
01:17which has powered our civilizations since the industrial age,
01:21is not just finite, but may be less secure and reliable than we once assumed.
01:30Compounding this problem is the fact that our regions are projected to witness an increase in energy demand by more
01:39than 60% by 2040.
01:42No thanks, indeed, for the urbanization and industrialization.
01:49The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is likely to accelerate this trajectory further,
01:57with data centers and advanced computing infrastructures requiring unprecedented levels of electricity.
02:04In fact, I remember three years ago, when I initially looked at the projections,
02:11I said to TNB and the ministry that we have to review this.
02:17Because the focus in this region, and particularly in Malaysia,
02:22the mushrooming of the desert centers and the interest in AI and semiconductors would demand more water, more energy.
02:31That's why I made a particular reference to the capacity of TNB leadership for responding to this demand and insistence
02:47fast enough.
02:48That shows resilience, capacity, and again, I reiterate my profound thanks to the leadership of TNB at the start.
03:03Now, as countries ways to build digital economics and harness AI-driven growth,
03:08So, the challenge before us is not only to generate more energy, but to ensure that it remains secure, affordable,
03:18and sustainable.
03:20Now, but AI positively viewed represents opportunities to accelerate energy transition efforts.
03:31Now, from improving grid efficiency, to forecasting renewable energy generation, to optimizing industrial energy use of the world,
03:40AI has the potential to strengthen energy systems.
03:43The challenge, however, again, lies in ensuring that growth of AI does not outpace the sustainability ambitions it is also
03:54expected to support.
03:55In the case of Malaysia, due to our strategic location and competitive investment environment,
04:02we have emerged as a key destination in this global digital infrastructure race.
04:07We continue to attract major data center's investments, particularly in Johor, Long Valley, and now too, Sarawak.
04:16Now, this raises the stakes.
04:17But in this regard, I have full confidence in TNB's ability to guide our energy transition and to deliver on
04:27the promises of AI and energy.
04:30We will deliver our promise to the rakyat that our transition will be just, our energy will be secure,
04:39and that AI will serve these nations and our values.
04:44That is, and must continue to be, the measure of this work.
04:50We'd like to now invite both CEOs to try and exchange documentation witnessed by the Honorable Prime Minister.
04:58We'll see you later.
04:59Let's get into it.
05:02Let's do it.
05:04Let's do it.
05:05Let's do it.
05:06Let's do it.
