00:10Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 reasons why Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts has been
00:18unfairly treated over the years.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays and ring the
00:30bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33Innovative Vehicle Building
00:40Regardless of how you feel about the vehicle building aspect of the game, one cannot deny just how impressive the
00:46system itself is.
00:48Nuts & Bolts gives you a pretty astonishing amount of freedom in building just about whatever you want.
00:54Bikes, trucks, taxis, planes, helicopters, boats, jets, tanks, or even some amalgamation of all of them.
01:09The only thing that limits you is how wide and tall you want your creation to be.
01:15Well, weight and physics also determine how efficient your ride will be.
01:19But even so, the fact that this system is so malleable and polished is what makes Nuts & Bolts so
01:25impressive for its time.
01:35Imaginative Environments
01:43The many different worlds of Nuts & Bolts are also brilliantly designed, both in visuals and layout.
01:49Nutty Acres may not wow anyone too much with its many hills and barren skies.
02:00However, locations like Log Box 720, Banjo Land, and even Showdown Town itself have all sorts of fun spots to
02:09explore, filled with neat gimmicks to play with or references to other rare games.
02:14Some missions may even lead you into new areas that you didn't notice before.
02:24Which leads us into our next point.
02:27It's still a collect-a-thon.
02:35For some reason, people act like there is nothing about Nuts & Bolts that makes it a banjo game.
02:41Okay, so it's not a 3D platformer at its core, but it still has the collect-a-thon gameplay.
02:48Every world has a set number of notes to find, and every mission rewards a Jiggy.
02:58You also have a new collectible to obtain here.
03:01The Trophy Thomas, er, Trophies, or TT Trophies, which are acquired if you complete missions with an impressive score or
03:10time.
03:16On top of that, Showdown Town has an assortment of mumbo crates containing vehicle parts for you to find.
03:23Nuts & Bolts may not be a banjo game by Blueprint, but the focus on collecting things is still very
03:29much present.
03:34The same old meta-humor.
03:46This is yet another portion of Nuts & Bolts that was nailed rather well.
03:50The older banjo games featured quite a bit of meta-humor, where characters know and acknowledge that they are in
03:57a video game.
03:58This kind of humor is also present in Nuts & Bolts.
04:06Not a minute goes by without somebody referencing the older games, talking about the developers, or making jabs at industry
04:14trends in some way.
04:15Some may get sick of it after a certain point, but unlike the older banjo games, it is just super
04:21easy to skip through the dialogue.
04:23Banjo fans, on the other hand, they'll get a kick out of the majority of these jokes.
04:32True player choice.
04:41So many AAA game developers and publishers will tell you,
04:45Oh, our game features multiple ways to complete your mission.
04:49When in reality, there are only two or maybe three viable ways to finish a mission.
04:54Many of the non-racing missions in Nuts & Bolts leave themselves open enough for you to figure everything out
05:01on your own.
05:08Obviously, there will be one solution that will give you the best result, but you can build so many different
05:14kinds of vehicles to accomplish your goal.
05:16The Jinjo hurling challenges, for example, can be approached differently.
05:20How will you help the Jinjo reach its target distance?
05:23Do you try ramming it at full speed?
05:25Do you utilize a boot in a box to launch it off a cliff?
05:28Do you try to send it flying with some kind of explosion?
05:31You have options.
05:33Experiment.
05:34That's the fun of this.
05:38Racing was always a part of Banjo Kazooie.
05:49A common complaint made against Nuts & Bolts is that,
05:53Oh, it's a racing game and Banjo was never about that.
05:56This statement is entirely disingenuous.
06:00For starters, there are more than 100 Jiggies to collect in Nuts & Bolts.
06:05Out of those 100 or so Jiggies, only roughly 20 of them are tied to races.
06:11I'm telling you this as somebody who has completed the game multiple times.
06:25Secondly, the franchise has always had a focus on racing in certain areas of each game.
06:30Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, and even Grunty's Revenge incorporate racing in some of their minigame challenges.
06:38Heck, we got an entire racing game spinoff in the form of Banjo Pilot on Game Boy Advance back in
06:462005.
06:47Three years before Nuts & Bolts was released.
06:50So, to pretend that the Banjo franchise never had anything to do with racing in any way,
06:56it's just super dishonest.
07:05Varied gameplay, not just races.
07:15As mentioned in the previous entry, races take up a mere fraction of the 100 plus missions in Nuts &
07:22Bolts,
07:23despite what people say.
07:24The other 80 or so are way more diverse than the haters want you to believe.
07:35Some missions require you to put on a stunt performance.
07:39Some missions involve intense vehicular combat.
07:42Some missions want you to build a machine that can collect things.
07:46Some missions even put different spins on a variety of sports.
07:50There is more to Nuts & Bolts than just racing.
07:54And the haters, who keep trying to paint it that way, clearly did not play the game.
07:59And they've done a pretty fair job at making people believe it's nothing but racing.
08:13Excellent character animation.
08:22Call us a sucker for tiny details.
08:24Or at the very least, call me a sucker for tiny details.
08:28But Nuts & Bolts boasts some of the best character animation that Rare has ever made.
08:34The way Grunty's different robots move about and attack are brimming with personality.
08:39Nudgers and Rammers get jumpy and excited when they spot you.
08:42Grunty herself has some pretty fun animations with her new life as a head in a jar.
08:52Mumbo can sometimes be seen juggling his own eyeballs while berating wife Humba is practicing handstands, flips, and what have
08:59you.
09:00Perhaps this sort of thing is just something the animation dork in me fawns over way too easily.
09:04I just love it.
09:05It's all great.
09:11Some of Rare's best music.
09:20Like with the animation, Nuts & Bolts contains some of the best music Rare has ever put together.
09:26Sure, many of the tunes are the same ones we've heard in previous banjo games.
09:30However, the arrangement and orchestral performance is what makes them shine.
09:35The slow and bumbling brass heard in Terrarium of Terror makes the world feel incredibly eerie.
09:48The whimsical clarinets leading up to the intense brass of Banjo Land exude the same feeling we get from wandering
09:55around theme parks like Disney World and Six Flags.
10:05The soothing flutes of Nutty Acres really sell us on the tropical island getaway vibes.
10:11And the coconut farm, of course.
10:19And the music used for Grunty's challenges are incredibly fun melodies as well.
10:25If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence.
10:30Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com.
10:33Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the dark side of fame from the writer of the most popular
10:38girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
10:40Boom!
10:41I can make an apology video.
10:43Oh, you so would!
10:44Click on the link in the description to check out the game and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
10:49And lastly, there was never a Banjo 3E.
11:01For some reason, a certain section of haters have dismissed Nuts and Bolts not just for the supposed intense focus
11:09on racing,
11:10but for the fact that Nuts and Bolts was apparently not the game we were supposedly promised?
11:16It's a very weird stance to take, considering a third mainline game was never promised to begin with.
11:24The teaser made to announce Banjo's return simply said,
11:27quote, Banjo is back, end quote.
11:30Indicating that, hey, a new game starring Banjo is on the way.
11:35What did we get?
11:36A new game starring Banjo.
11:42You can even make a case for the fake wall being a hint
11:45that Nuts and Bolts was not going to be the same kind of Banjo game in the first place.
11:50So what were you expecting?
11:51But even before that teaser, there were never any plans for a Banjo 3E to begin with.
12:06Yes, we all know how 2E ends, with Grunty saying, just wait until Banjo 3E, but that was never on
12:12the table.
12:13After Banjo 2E, Rare tried to develop three different Banjo games, one being a remake of the 1998 original game,
12:21while the other two were entirely focused on racing and building vehicles.
12:26Nuts and Bolts would wind up being some kind of mesh between all three cancelled games while continuing the overall
12:33story.
12:33So like it or not, Nuts and Bolts is Banjo 3E, and it's way better than most folks on the
12:40internet would want you to believe.
12:42JonTron's word is not fact, guys.
12:45This is a great game.
12:53Have you played Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts for yourself?
