00:00About 10 past 3 this afternoon, O'Meara walked into Westfield at Bondi Junction.
00:07He left the centre very shortly after and returned about 20 past 3.
00:12As he moved through the centre, he engaged with about 9 people.
00:18It is clear that during that engagement, he caused harm to those people,
00:23we believe, by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying.
00:27Police attended promptly. A single unit officer, inspector of police, was nearby, attended,
00:34went into the centre, directed by a range of people.
00:38She confronted the offender who had moved by this stage to level 5.
00:44As she continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him, he turned, faced her, raised a knife.
00:53She discharged a firearm and that person is now deceased.
00:56I'm advised that there are 5 victims who are now deceased as a result of the actions of this offender.
01:08There are more than several other people who have been conveyed to hospital.
01:14A number of those are in serious and or critical conditions at this stage
01:20and I do not have further information in relation to descriptions of those people.
01:27I know one of them is a small child.
01:29Has she ever had really taken care of while she passed?
01:30I know one of them is something that she has just severed as she is trying to help this offender.
