00:00I didn't know anything about her before, I'd read Anne Frank's diary when I was younger and I know about
00:08this part of history, I'm Jewish myself so I feel connected to this part of history in a lot of
00:14ways but I didn't really know, I didn't know anything about me but I also didn't know anything about what
00:18was going on in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation and yeah I'd never been to the Anne Frank house so
00:24it was a, you know I learnt a huge amount about this incredible woman while I was researching and making
00:29this project. I think getting into the core of who this person was is that fact that she didn't consider
00:37herself a hero, she was incredibly selfless and kind of egoless really, she, it was her mantra really until she
00:48died you know that you don't have to be special in order to help others and I did my duty
00:52as a human being which was helping people in need and that was kind of
00:59kind of, it was kind of comforting to me you know in taking on the responsibility of playing a real
01:05person, reminding myself that she didn't want to be put on a pedestal and she wanted me to see kind
01:11of myself in her and in that sense she really was like an every woman.
01:15I've been searching for like my entire career like when I started out acting like people didn't make shows about
01:22people like me so that is just unbelievably exciting that finally post Me Too like a lot of these incredible
01:29female heroes are coming out the woodwork and they are being written as fully fledged well rounded complex characters and
01:36I think it's that that makes this show, separates this show from other historical dramas you know.
01:44Yes this show is set during a time that we all know about too well but it's also as much
01:49as it being you know about the Holocaust and you know this intense kind of political backdrop it's also about
01:56coming of age and it's about marriage and it's about parenthood and you know all the things that we as
02:04humans can really relate to and that that was actually what excited me most about coming on to this project
02:10was just this kind of fresh take on a part of history that we know about very well.
02:14And I thought that this is a way to make people relate and connect and make people think about the
02:21humanity in this and like what the Franks were actually going through in the annex like they were still parenting
02:28their kids like Anne was a she was a teenager which is the most intense time as a young woman
02:33and you know the diary like I think people almost think about that as just like a book nowadays.
02:38Like this show is just making people I think gonna help to make people just really connect and think about
02:44what's going on in the world now.
