00:03what would the world be like if every human suddenly disappeared well Carlton
00:07Basmajian professor and researcher of urban sprawl rights for the conversation
00:11if that happened the first thing you would notice would likely be the
00:14quietude we're undoubtedly used to it but roads are extremely loud as our
00:19planes that fly in the sky over our heads after a while once you've gotten
00:22used to the silence you might start to notice the cleaner air as all of
00:25humankind's polluting power plants and vehicles have stopped operating
00:29however a big part of a world without people would include lots more bugs
00:33that's because humans are tenacious in their pest control removing insect
00:37habitats spraying for them you name it and there would be more life in general
00:40including new trees sprouted from seeds that fall where they may with no people
00:44to keep grounds curated and creatures like mice raccoons and other small mammals
00:48would start coming out of the woodwork to take over new habitats once cordoned off
00:51for people eventually after around a decade according to Basmajian roads bridges
00:56and other massive man-made infrastructure would crumble and fall to pieces a
01:00notion which reveals that our way of life isn't entirely natural and to continue
01:03on in the way we do requires constant upkeep
