00:00Sono qui per smascherare questo Letamaio, che chiamiamo città .
00:06Ne fai parte anche tu.
00:08Come ne faccio parte?
00:11Oh, io pensavo fossi molto più sveglio.
00:16Bruce Wayne.
00:18I mean, I think what was important to me was, I knew that as a baseline, you had to give
00:22people, you know, Batman is a character that people love, and he's been around for over
00:2680 years, and they're great movies, so I knew there had to be, you couldn't make a
00:30Batmobile movie, I mean, you couldn't make a Batman movie without making a movie that
00:34had a great Batmobile chase, it had to have all the spectacle, it had to have all the
00:37things that you're going to expect, and we do all of that, but I also felt like it was
00:40really important that the movie justify a new iteration, that it needed to be distinctive
00:45and stand on its own as a new special thing, and I thought we'd never really seen the world's
00:49greatest detective as the subject of the movie, you know, like Out of the Long Halloween by
00:54Jeff Loeb and Tim Sale, this idea of telling a kind of serial killer story and Batman trying
00:58to unravel the mystery in a way that had such detail that you'd never seen before, that
01:02was kind of almost like a thriller and a horror movie and all of those things together, and
01:06I thought that that could be really fresh and different, and so that was really why.
01:32Paul Dano, we know that there are a lot of bad things about Batman's stories. In this new version, the
01:41enigmista The Riddle is his main enemy,
01:44in this new version of Batman's story, which shows that not all is white and black in life.
01:51Yes, I think what's really interesting here is that it's not just black and white, and it's not just the
01:57superhero protecting the status quo, but that's all challenged, and the hero is thus challenged in an even greater way
02:04because of that.
02:07Of course, one of the ways you have to approach a villain is to maybe not think of them as
02:12a villain, but find their point of view, right?
02:15So, in some ways, as an actor, you go, okay, I believe in my own cause. Now, as Paul's speaking
02:24to you, right, I want to make sure we're not going anywhere near condoning this guy's actions because it's incredibly
02:32disturbing, but it all circles back to what Matt and I talked about, which I think relates to what you're
02:38saying, which is the hero and villain are the two sides of trauma.
02:42And it's not just nature born a psycho, but there's an element of nurture in Gotham that this person didn't
02:49receive, and then this mask allows them to take out all of their life's pain.
03:12Matt Reeves has been on it for five years, we've been on it for three years, and all the kind
03:17of work put into it, and then finally seeing the final product, it's been such a relief, and it's so
03:23kind of exciting to put it out.
03:25I mean, and yeah, I just can't wait for people to see it. It's going to be fun.
