Resident doctors in England will return to the picket lines this month in their 16th walkout over pay and conditions. How do you feel about the strikes?
Transcript
00:00My feeling is, if you're going into healthcare at any particular level, you're going in for it as a vocation,
00:13in my opinion.
00:14You're going into it because you've decided that is your direction in life.
00:20Particularly if you're going to train to be a doctor or a GP, then you've made that decision to follow
00:26that path.
00:28You've gone to university for maybe five, six years, done your master's, etc.
00:33And then you've done your GP and your doctor advancement.
00:37So the whole process can take, what, maybe up to 10 years possibly?
00:42And then you've got to pass as a GP, then you've got to start practising.
00:47But when you look at the salaries, they are poor.
00:54And it's no surprise why the NHS is in such a mess as it is, because we're losing talent, because
01:01we're not paying for that talent.
01:03We've got family members that are in the health practising field.
01:07Because it's been such a long period of time of their protesting, they're kind of fed up by now, so
01:12they've normalised it.
01:13These people are making decisions about people's lives.
01:16I have certain empathy with them, but I don't support them, really, if I'm being honest.
01:24Because they know, they go into that job and they know what the pay scales are.
01:29And they go into that job, I don't know what the payصل is to say.
01:29I had to receive a lot of agency into that area.
01:29But at first, I can do allocation of education, so I'm able to answer all of this.
01:30I've done everything.
