00:00France has officially banned short domestic flights, but some environmentalists think the new law does not go far enough.

00:12is available.
00:14CNBC knows that France is home to an extensive high-speed rail network.
00:18It's good to note that this new rule applies only when train travel, quote,
00:22provides a satisfactory alternative service, according to CNBC.
00:26Forbes notes that a few reasons environmentalists may be upset,
00:30are because connecting flights from outside of France are unaffected by this new law,
00:34and the ban doesn't cover private jets, something that environmentalists are campaigning heavily for in France.
00:40Environmental non-profit Greenpeace pushed for the law to go further,
00:44but nonetheless described it as a, quote, baby step in the right direction.
00:49According to Forbes, the ban was part of a 2020 agreement to bail out the national airline Air France.
