00:23Hello out there, Peabody and Sherman here.
00:26Tell me, Sherman, do you know what P.T. Barlam was famous for?
00:29P.T. Boats, Mr. Peabody?
00:31No, Sherman. P.T. Barnum was an impresario.
00:35A what?
00:36Perhaps it can best be explained with the Wayback Machine set up for 1871, Sherman.
00:41Good boy.
00:42And our destination will be New York City, where we'll visit the greatest show on earth, P.T. Barnum Circus.
00:50In its own inimitable fashion, the Wayback escorted Sherman and me into the main tent,
00:54and there supervising the rehearsal for opening night was P.T. Barnum himself.
01:00You understand, Freddy.
01:02When you dive off that platform, make it look like you're scared.
01:07I am scared, P.T.
01:10Well, don't be.
01:11Just aim for the tank and don't worry.
01:14All right, let her go.
01:19Oh, what a dive.
01:21Flawless execution, Mr. Barnum.
01:23Flawless.
01:24Yes, but it would have been better if there had been water in the tank.
01:28Sure enough, a gaping hole in the tank's floor proved that Freddy, the high diver, had gone on to bigger
01:34things.
01:34Oh, at this rate, the show will never open tonight.
01:38And if it doesn't?
01:39Then I'm out as half-owner.
01:40My partners get full control.
01:43That's them up there, Hyde and Sick, world's greatest flying trapeze artists.
01:49Nice work you did, draining that tank, Sick.
01:52Nothing to it, Hyde.
01:54I think Barnum's ready to quit.
01:58He will be after the lion act.
02:01Yeah.
02:02Will he remember the mane?
02:04Get it, Hyde?
02:07Mane, lion's mane.
02:12Oh, but you're sick, sick.
02:15While the rehearsal continued, Sherman and I went about an investigation.
02:19It was inside Hyde and Sick's tent that we came across some rather interesting evidence.
02:24Look, Mr. Peabody, they've been using a picture of Mr. Barnum for a dartboard.
02:29Hmm, 45 points.
02:31Poor shots.
02:32And look at this funny-looking doll.
02:34That, Sherman, is a voodoo doll.
02:36It's just like Mr. Barnum.
02:38Yes, and you'll notice in this instance the aim was much better.
02:41We delivered the evidence just before the show began.
02:45So, Hyde and Sick are behind this.
02:48Without the slightest doubt.
02:49Shall I fetch the police, Mr. Barnum?
02:51Not yet, Sonny.
02:53Hyde and Sick are my star attractions.
02:54If they don't perform, the show closes.
02:58And then, legally, the show will become theirs.
03:00Yes.
03:01Hear that, Hyde?
03:02All we gotta do is not perform.
03:04And Barnum is out on his ear.
03:07Then leave us not move one muscle, Sick.
03:10Not one teensy-weensy muscle.
03:13Ladies and gentlemen, presenting those fantastic flying artists of the high trapeze,
03:23two of the most talented crooks in show business, Hyde and Sick.
03:30They're not moving, Mr. Peabody.
03:32They won't go into their act.
03:34Really?
03:35We'll see about that.
03:37We got it made, Sick.
03:39Them dopes can applaud all they want.
03:41But there ain't nothing that'll make us move.
03:45How do you do, gentlemen?
03:46My name is Peabody.
03:48And this is a friend of P.T. Barnum's.
03:52A skunk!
03:54Let me out of here!
03:55Well, that was all it took.
03:57Hyde and Sick launched themselves into a memorable aerial display.
04:00Of course, they had high hopes of escaping,
04:03but I had instructed Sherman to block any attempts for the blowtorch.
04:10And so, back and forth, they swung between Scylla and Charybdis, as it were,
04:14and by morning, they were still at it.
04:17Albeit a trifle weary.
04:19I know I should turn them over to the police, but I just can't do it.
04:23That was the greatest flying trapeze act I ever saw.
04:28But you can't let them go without punishment.
04:30Sherman is right, you know.
04:32Well, Barnum's circus flourished,
04:35and Hyde and Sick became his biggest stars.
04:37As for the punishment,
04:39each afternoon at three,
04:41Jumbo, the elephant,
04:42put a well-known expression to good use.
04:45Tanning one's Hyde.
04:48Now I'm sick.
04:50Sick.
04:51Sick.
04:52Sick.
04:54Sick.
04:54Sick.
04:58Sick.
05:00Sick.
