00:59health sector which is under pressure with a growing number of people to treat and it has
01:05an impact on many economic sectors. We need to act fast, to act together, to bring help.
01:12I am in constant contact with Prime Minister Conte. We need to support the health care sector
01:19urgently. I know that Italy lacks personal protective equipment, in particular respiratory devices.
01:28I asked my commissioners to work with the industry to increase the production of such equipment
01:35and we are also working with the pharmaceutical industry to increase the supply of medicines.
01:42more solidarity is needed in Europe to make sure that doctors and nurses have
01:49the protective equipment they need and patients have the necessary treatment.
01:55But the economy needs help too. We take all possible measures to help people,
02:02companies and the entire economic sectors that suffer from the crisis. For example, SMEs such as
02:10hotels, restaurants or transport companies struggle because of the cancellation of holidays. I am aware that almost 70% of
02:20shops are closed in Lombardy, for example.
02:23Many other sectors are suffering too. Our European economy needs more flexibility
02:30and more liquidity and more liquidity. And therefore the European Commission will use the full flexibility of the Stability and
02:38Growth Pact. In parallel, we will make sure that state aid can be given more easily to companies that struggle.
02:48And the Commission will provide money to help. I am setting up a Corona Response Investment Initiative. This should trigger
02:57investments of 25 billion euros
03:00for the entire European Union very rapidly. And it will channel several billions of euros to Italy. This will benefit
03:10the healthcare sector, SMEs affected and, importantly, help people to stay in their jobs.
