00:25as suspected cases of a rare attack of Ebola surge.
00:31Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky asked U.S. President Donald Trump for more ammunition
00:37for its Patriot air defense systems to counter Russian ballistic missiles.
00:41The request comes just days after one of the worst combined missile and drone attacks launched against Kyiv
00:47since Russia invaded Ukraine more than four years ago.
01:47When Vladimir Putin does not want to negotiate with Europe, Ukraine's former Prime Minister
01:52Arseniyat Sunyuk told Euronews.
01:54Putin is not eager, he is not ready for any kind of talks at this particular juncture.
02:00Maybe he would accept some kind of negotiator with the only very simple and obvious reason
02:05to buy time and once again to outweigh it and to cheat us.
02:11Meanwhile Europeans haven't decided yet who could be the EU negotiator.
02:15I am not sure that Putin is ready to accept anyone, but Putin is ready to accept, he
02:21is ready to accept Ukraine's and actually European surrender.
02:24And we have to realize this, it is not about the names, it's not about some kind of international
02:29or domestic politics, it is about policy.
02:33What kind of policy we are going to pursue towards Russia?
02:36The only language Putin understands is the language of force and strength.
02:40High Representative Kayakalas stressed Europeans should agree first on their co-requests to
02:45Russia before considering talking to Moscow.
02:48The matter is said to be on the agenda of an informal meeting of European foreign affairs
02:53ministers on Thursday.
02:58Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his British counterpart Keir Starmer signed a major new
03:05defence and security treaty on Wednesday in London.
03:08The deal aims to bolster British borders, tackle organised crime, boost collective defence and
03:15further deepen cooperation with the European Union.
03:19We have deployed troops, NATO troops obviously.
03:22We will now train further together, we will share capacity together, develop complex weaponry
03:29together and invest in each other in terms of how we go forward.
03:34So this is really important in terms of a signal to the world of the strength of the relationship
03:41between our two countries.
03:43Meanwhile, Tusk reiterated Poland's will to protect values.
03:47He says the country shares with the UK.
03:50For us they remain important, but also for our countries.
03:55Rights, democracy, human rights, the feeling of solidarity with people, the desire to work
04:05for their safety and good life, this is all the fundamental of this treaty.
04:11According to Poland's Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defence, the agreement also offers
04:18clarification on military assistance in the event of a threat, technology transfer and
04:24cooperation on cyber security.
04:26The deal follows new treaties the UK has signed with Germany and France and is part of Starmer's
04:33strategy to rebuild ties with the EU following Brexit in 2016.
04:42Ugandan authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of the border with its neighbour, the
04:47Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, as suspected cases of a rare type of Ebola surged to near
04:541,000.
04:55The decision by the Ugandan Ebola Task Force comes as other variants of the virus emerge and
05:02follows a rise in local health workers exposed to the virus by Congolese patients, who are
05:08who crossed before the outbreak was declared on 15 May.
05:12According to the Ugandan Ministry of Health, travel across the Congo border will be authorised
05:18only in emergency cases, including for the outbreak response, cargo or security reasons.
05:26Uganda has reported seven cases of Ebola, including the first case of a 59-year-old man who died
05:32in Kampala, the capital, on the 14th of May.
05:36In Congo, there have been some 228 deaths.
05:40While the case load in Uganda is not spiking, the number of locals exposed to infection via
05:46health workers has been rising.
05:53Officers from the Civil Guard's Central Operational Unit entered the national headquarters of the
05:59Socialist Party PSOE of Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid on Wednesday.
06:05They followed a court order the preliminary step to a formal search in connection with a secret
06:12investigation into Larry Diaz, a member of the party already under investigation for influence
06:18peddling.
06:19A judge is investigating alleged payments linked to Diaz, which are believed to be connected
06:26to SIPI, the Spanish state-owned industrial holding company, and its former president,
06:32Vincente Fernandez.
06:34The National High Court has also charged the party's treasurer already under scrutiny by
06:40investigators for the use of cash linked to other corruption cases surrounding the party
06:45and Pedro Sanchez's government.
06:47The Prime Minister, who was on a diplomatic visit to the Vatican on Wednesday, has stated
06:53that he does not underestimate the ongoing investigation and has assured that they will offer, in his
06:59words, full cooperation with the court.
07:02In this case, well, well, well, apparently, we are talking about a requirement, we are not
07:08talking about a register. I don't want to, let's say, minusvalorize the gravity of the investigation
07:17that the national audience is currently having in the course. If there are, in fin,
08:02Hungarian lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly in favor of reversing the country's withdrawal
08:07from the International Criminal Court, which was set in motion last year by former Prime
08:11Minister Viktor Orbán's government. Prime Minister Peter Magyar submitted the bill on Monday
08:17and rushed it through legislature in a fast-track procedure. The ICC's legislative body hailed what
08:23they called an important decision after the government announced last Friday it would
08:27discontinue the process of withdrawal. Orbán announced Hungary's exit last year while hosting
08:33his ally Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and
08:41other top Israeli officials over suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in
08:47the war against Hamas in Gaza. Arrest warrants were also issued for several Hamas leaders.
08:52Magyar has indicated that Hungary would execute ICC warrants against anyone, even Netanyahu,
08:58despite inviting him to Budapest for later this year.
09:06German far-left militant Daniela Kleiter has been sentenced for 13 years in prison on Wednesday for
09:14a series of armed robberies committed while she was a fugitive. The 67-year-old and former member of
09:21the Red Army Faction, or RAF, was arrested in her Berlin apartment in February 2024 after evading
09:28authorities for more than 30 years. Kleiter was found guilty of six counts of particularly
09:34serious robbery committed between 1999 and 2016, as well as other charges including extortion and
09:42arms violations. The robbers got away with a total of 2.4 million euros, according to prosecutors.
09:50Kleiter was accused of having been the getaway driver in several heists and carrying a realistic
09:57looking dummy bazooka in robberies where the men carried assault rifles. Prosecutors also accused
10:04Kleiter of three politically-motivated attacks in the 1990s, while the gang was still active,
10:10but those charges are being dealt with in separate proceedings. The RAF is also known as the Vademainov Gang,
10:18a radical anti-capitalist group that carried out killings, bombings and kidnappings mainly in the 1970s and
10:261980s. Researchers on a Greenpeace expedition are exploring the arctic deep sea, one of the least
10:36known wildernesses on earth. More specifically, they are exploring the so-called banana hole to search
10:42for undiscovered species and ancient ecosystems. The banana hole is a remote and mysterious area of
10:49the Arctic high seas that lies in international waters, located between Norway and Greenland.
10:55Greenpeace says it is home to seamounts or underwater mountains, as well as volcanic hot springs,
11:01which it says acts as a living library of our planet's history. However, despite of its importance,
11:08the environmental organization says the banana hole is under threat of deep-sea mining.
11:13The Greenpeace vessel departed earlier this month for a month-long expedition to raise awareness on
11:19the danger of deep-sea mining. They are now live-streaming from depths down to 3,000 meters
11:25until the 30th of May, and the expedition is expected to last until early June.
