00:00Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's final UK residence is set to undergo a dramatic renovation
00:06that will reportedly undo the $2.8 million worth of upgrades that the couple carried out before
00:14moving in back in 2018. Now, Harry and Meghan have been based in the US since 2020 when they
00:20sensationally quit their roles as senior working royals. However, it wasn't until 2023 that they
00:28were asked to give up their UK property, a quaint abode known as Frogmore Cottage. The property was
00:37given to Harry and Meghan by Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift, and it served as their primary
00:42residence for several years before they relocated to California. However, before they moved in,
00:48the couple carried out some very significant work. First and foremost, they turned what was once two
00:54structures into a much larger family home, and then they carried out what has been described as a
00:59Soho house-inspired aesthetic upgrade, all of which is said to have cost about $2.8 million.
01:07Now, at the time, these renovations were paid for by the Crown because Harry and Meghan were still
01:13senior members, working members, that is, of the royal family. However, after they quit the royal
01:19family, the couple were required to pay back not only the money used for the renovations, but also
01:25the rent that was lost while they were living in the home. All of that is said to have cost
01:30them
01:30around $3.3 million. So by no means was this a cheap rental. Now, it's unclear exactly what is going
01:39to be done to the home in order to restore it to its former glory. However, it's understood that the
01:44property, which is still owned by the Crown, will be put to a better use moving forward.
01:50As for Harry and Meghan, don't feel too bad for them because they have since upgraded, if you will,
01:55to a rather spectacular mansion in Montecito, which they purchased for $14.65 million back in 2020.
02:04And even better for the couple, it's apparently worth a lot more today.
02:08Realty.com estimates put it at around $16.6 million. Now, the couple is showing no signs of
02:16wanting to sell the home where they live with their kids, Archie and Lilibet. However, if they
02:21need to scrape back some of that money they spent on Frogmore Cottage, they know what to do.
02:25Now we are going to bop back across the Atlantic to the UK, where a royal expert has made a
02:31rather
02:31sensational claim about why Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson fell out. According to Royal
02:38author Andrew Lowney, the rift between the two women can be traced back to a bit of a revealing
02:45detail that Ferguson included in her 1996 autobiography. What did Ferguson write, you must
02:52be wondering? Well, she claims that she borrowed a pair of shoes from Princess Diana and caught
02:58a Veruca from wearing them. In the US, I believe a Veruca may be known as a wart, but either
03:04way,
03:04it's a rather painful and very contagious growth on your foot. Now, Princess Diana is said to have
03:10been so horrified by the fact that this news was made public that she cut off contact with Ferguson
03:16altogether. It seems a shame given that the two women had at one time been very close. Lowney claims
03:22that their once close relationship blossomed out of a shared struggle to cope with the hassle of being
03:28a member of the royal family. However, it was just a few years before all of that came crashing down,
03:34thanks to Ferguson's inability to keep one very secret detail secret.
