00:00But only Wonder Witch will be crowned, the world champion of Street Fighter!
00:09Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 key differences between the upcoming Street Fighter movie
00:16and the games it's based on.
00:20Executory fall! How'd I lose?
00:23Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays and ring
00:29the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:32The Plot Itself
00:35I got good news, y'all! Gathered here are the world's best fighters!
00:41Judging from the aesthetics and cast, it's safe to assume that the Street Fighter movie is starting with some iteration
00:46of Street Fighter 2 instead of basing everything off of the 1987 original game.
00:51But what's strange is how deep they seem to be going with the story and who they're choosing to focus
00:57on.
00:58The path I'm on now is not one of combat.
01:03Baby, it's Ken's turn to be champion.
01:05The movie seems like it will have more of a focus on Ken with Ryu playing second fiddle, but that's
01:11not what Street Fighter 2 was about.
01:12The game shows M. Bison using the first World Fighting Tournament as a means to lure Ryu and company to
01:19his temple, exacting his revenge for putting an end to his criminal empire.
01:23Some semblance of that story may be brought to the movie, yet it seems that may not be the case.
01:29This tournament is not what it seems. We have to be ready.
01:34Ken.
01:36You win!
01:38Perfect!
01:39One of the trailers of the Street Fighter movie shows Ken in a rather unflattering state.
01:45He drinks, he seems depressed, and he uses his fighting prowess as more of a party trick than a tool
01:51for combat.
01:52This sort of lines up with his story in Street Fighter 2, in which he enters the tournament after being
01:57inspired by Ryu's own personal goals.
02:00However, Ken also believes he may have lost some of his skill because of spending too much time with his
02:06fiancée.
02:08Still trying to get up that creepy hill.
02:12The thing is, that movie Ken appears to have a different motive, as the trailer paints him as someone who
02:17once had a legendary career in martial arts before losing it all.
02:22Even Chun-Li seems to acknowledge this with a single line.
02:25You're not a warrior anymore, you're a sideshow.
02:29Sup MTV?
02:30I'm Ken Masters.
02:31What's up, this is your shot at redemption?
02:35Guile.
02:37We don't want to be too negative on the costume design, let alone a movie that isn't even out yet,
02:43but one thing we want to point out is Guile.
02:46I'm positive that a fireball came out of Ryu.
02:49For the most part, Cody Rhodes does look like Guile in bodybuild, performance, attire, but not the hair.
02:57The hair is simply not as wide and flat as Guile's hair typically is in the games.
03:02If anything, it almost looks like he could pass for Paul Phoenix from Tekken, but if someone just gently smashed
03:10the top down a bit.
03:11It's not a deal breaker for us, yet it is kind of distracting us from what's been done correctly.
03:17At least it's light years better than the Jean-Claude Van Damme version we got in 1994.
03:22That wasn't Guile, that was just a dude.
03:31Special Moves
03:38The few trailers we've seen have kind of kept the special moves under wrap.
03:42The closest we've gotten is seeing Ryu perform a Harouken with Guile clearly having a bit of a meltdown over
03:48it.
03:48Still, we have to wonder how much of the game will be portrayed in the fight scenes here.
03:53After all, Street Fighter tends to get super cartoony in its combat.
04:07Sure, the movie is looking like it will lean into how absurd the fighting can get.
04:11Still, the brief shots of Dulcim, Lanca, and even Akuma have us wondering just how fantastical, weird, and wild are
04:19they going to get with this?
04:24Swearing
04:26What's going on?
04:30Sit down.
04:31Since the ESRB formed in 1994, Street Fighter has maintained a rather consistent tone and visual style that constantly nets
04:39it a T for Teen rating.
04:41Most of the time, the ESRB rates it T for Teen because of violence, you know, the fighting, suggestive themes,
04:48usually labeled because of revealing clothing and innuendos, and mild language.
04:53Games with mild language typically only utter words like crap, hell, or damn, and are used somewhat sparingly.
05:01Beginning operation.
05:03Don't expect me to be a pushover.
05:05The Street Fighter movie, on the other hand, seems like it's going to have a lot more attitude and vulgarity.
05:11Granted, this is judging from one shot of Chun-Li uttering a harsher swear word, but this isn't Mortal Kombat.
05:19It's likely going to just use whatever profanity it can get away with to net a PG-13 rating and
05:25nothing higher.
05:26Don Savage
05:28I got good news, y'all!
05:30Gathered here are the world's best fighters!
05:33One of the strangest aspects of the Street Fighter movie is the inclusion of Don Savage.
05:39For those unaware, Don is a very obscure Street Fighter character, having only ever appeared in Street Fighter V as
05:45the CWA announcer in Zangief's story.
05:48Incredible! And the winner is the wretched wrestling dynamo of Iron Muscle!
05:55It is such a small role in a bigger character's story that it's almost confusing to see him as the
06:01announcer of the entire tournament and being played by comedian Eric Andre.
06:06But only one of which will be crowned, the world champion of Street Fighter!
06:13Who knows, maybe this was just a bit of fan service to throw in for the hardcore players.
06:18Or, y'know, the fact that Eric and the movie's director are friends and have worked together in real life.
06:24Fighting Cars
06:31In the latest trailer, we got a little bit of fan service in the form of a nod to Street
06:35Fighter's classic bonus stages.
06:37There is a brief snippet of Ken at a nightclub performing a powerful kick to a poor, unsuspecting car, knocking
06:44its hood off in the process.
06:46Fight!
06:48As most of us fans know, one of the bonus stages lets us wail on vehicles for a certain period
06:53of time,
06:54potentially reducing them to a pile of rubble.
07:02This moment may wind up just being a nod and nothing more.
07:05Still, there's a part of us that hopes we get to see Ken, or anybody, give that car a total
07:11beatdown.
07:13Cammie!
07:13So many people I've hurt in the past.
07:16A person like me probably doesn't deserve the right to be a protector of others.
07:23Now, what I'm about to say is by no means fueled by any disrespect towards Mel Jarnson.
07:28She is gorgeous no doubt, she's great, she's got a good acting career going for her, and it's cool seeing
07:34her be a part of yet another huge fighting game franchise.
07:37Jarnson played Natara in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.
07:40However, after Cammie remarks to Chun-Li about not being impressed with her legs, we gotta ask...
07:47What the hell, man?
07:49Everyone keeps going on about your thighs.
07:51What's going on?
07:53I don't see what the big tail is.
07:54Ever since her debut in Super Street Fighter 2, Cammie has been just as famous for her deadly legs and
08:00kicks as Chun-Li is, and has always shown bulked the hell up.
08:06It's why the community has forever been divided between Chun-Li or Cammie.
08:11So what gives here?
08:13No mercy for you.
08:15Sure, Jarnson does look more like Cammie in her pre-development artwork, and wears the costume very well.
08:22It is very flattering for her.
08:24But, if you're going to have her utter that line, even as a joke, then shouldn't Cammie have the same
08:32toned, muscled, jacked up legs just as she does in the games?
08:38Take this, bring this stuff!
08:43Acceleration!
08:44Finish!
08:46Akuma.
08:50Akuma is another character that looks very off in the Street Fighter movie to the same degree as Cammie.
08:56Granted, Roman Reigns does have the build to portray a menacing character such as Akuma, but what's throwing us off
09:03is the facial hair.
09:05Now, to be fair, Akuma has had beards before.
09:09He had one in Street Fighter V, and he has one in Street Fighter VI.
09:17Both are styled in a way that makes him look like a vicious lion, not like a guy with just
09:23a regular beard.
09:24Reigns looks like just a guy with a regular beard.
09:28And when you have a look like that for Akuma, well, it just looks like Roman Reigns cosplaying as Akuma.
09:35Here's hoping Reigns can fade into the role, at least.
09:45If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence.
09:50Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com.
09:53Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the dark side of fame from the writer of the most popular
09:58girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
10:00Boom!
10:01I can make an apology video.
10:03Oh, you so would!
10:04Click on the link in the description to check out the game and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
10:09And lastly, Blanca.
10:19So here's the thing with Blanca.
10:21In terms of color and overall visual design, they nailed it.
10:25Blanca does look like Blanca.
10:27But just like with Mel Jarnson's cami and Roman Reigns' Akuma, we gotta wonder what the thought process was behind
10:35the casting here.
10:39Part of us thought that Jason Momoa would simply be providing the voice of Blanca, or, worst case, they would
10:46have makeup and CG to make his face more like Blanca's.
10:50After all, Blanca has a face that's more akin to a gorilla, probably from the mutation caused by the plane
10:57crash he endured when he was human.
11:01But once again, it simply looks as if Jason Momoa is just cosplaying Blanca, just as Reigns is cosplaying Akuma,
11:09Jarnson is cosplaying Cammy, and Rhodes is cosplaying Guile.
11:13We mean no disrespect to the cast at all.
11:16Truly, we're sure that they're gonna do a great job in their performances.
11:20We only wish they all looked more like their respective characters, though.
11:29Was there a notable difference in the Street Fighter movie trailers that we might have missed?
