00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 remixes that are
00:13better than the original. For this list, we'll be looking at officially licensed remixes of songs
00:25that manage to top their predecessors. What's your favorite remix? Let us know in the comments.
00:3210. For My People – Basement Jack's Mix – Missy Elliott featuring Eve
00:37A good remix takes what's great about the original song and expands upon it.
00:42For My People by Missy Elliott featuring Eve was already a total dance floor banger.
00:55But London electronic duo Basement Jack's managed to give the song even more energy than we thought
01:01possible. Adding a heavy dose of house music to the production and extending the length to seven
01:06minutes, Basement Jack's made us all feel like we were at the club.
01:16More sounds are added, but they never distract from the song's addictive rhythm and catchy hooks.
01:22The party was already jumpin', but Basement Jack's helped bring it through the roof.
01:33Number 9. Levitating – The Blessed Madonna Remix – Dua Lipa and The Blessed Madonna featuring
01:39Madonna and Missy Elliott
01:4118 years after For My People, Missy Elliott hopped onto the remix of another artist's song,
01:48Levitating by British pop sensation Dua Lipa.
01:57And the excitement doesn't stop there, as this remix also has a double dose of Madonna.
02:03First, it's produced by DJ The Blessed Madonna, who made a whole remix album with Lipa.
02:16And it also features vocals from the queen of pop herself, Madonna. The already anthemic
02:22levitating became even more invigorating with the faster tempo, heavier beat, and legendary
02:27guest stars. When this remix comes on, it's hard not to feel like you're floating away into a world of
02:32love
02:33and dance.
02:34Let's get a skirt! Pull up in the coupe. Ooh, that dude, he look highly cute. Yeah, he lookin' at
02:39me like you.
02:40Number 8. Savage Remix – Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyonce.
02:45Megan Thee Stallion's music is full of sharp flows, memorable lyrics, and utter confidence.
02:51And Savage is one of the best songs in her discography.
03:02Shortly after its release, a remix dropped featuring vocals from another Houston artist.
03:07You might know her as Beyonce.
03:09Rather than just tacking a verse or chorus onto Megan's original, the remix essentially creates a new,
03:15better song. While Megan's hook remains, she has a new verse with even more potency.
03:26Meanwhile, Beyonce sings, raps, and overall just reminds us of how awesome she is.
03:32The two artists have instant chemistry, and Savage Remix unsurprisingly topped the charts.
03:37Please don't get me hyped. Write my name in ice. Can't argue with these lazy bitches, I just raise my
03:42price.
03:43Hopefully, these two will collaborate again soon.
03:46Number 7. A Little Less Conversation – JXL Remix – Elvis vs. JXL
03:52Not all remixes come out the same year as the original song. For instance, some take more than 30 years
03:58to drop.
03:59A little more fight, a little less fight, a little less fight, a little more spark.
04:03Except your mouth will open up your heart and it will satisfy me.
04:06When Elvis Presley released A Little Less Conversation in 1968,
04:10Dutch producer JXL was less than a year old. And when JXL dropped his remix of the song in 2002,
04:16Presley was no longer with us.
04:18A little less conversation, a little more action-based
04:22All this aggravation and satisfaction in me
04:25Nonetheless, this remix manages to bridge two artists from two different eras seamlessly,
04:30with Presley's unmistakable baritone fitting into JXL's big beat sound.
04:35JXL was the first artist given permission to remix Presley, who wasn't from the Presley organization.
04:41And he did an outstanding job.
04:44Oh baby, I'm tired of talking
04:47Grab your food and let's start walking
04:50Number 6. I Took a Pill in Ibiza – Seed Remix – Mike Posner
04:55Mike Posner's I Took a Pill in Ibiza is a somber reflection on the fleeting and dangerous nature of fame.
05:07So a remix of it might seem like a bad idea, as it could take away its intimacy.
05:12However, while Norwegian EDM duo Sieb's take adds more sounds to give a tropical house vibe,
05:18the song doesn't lose its heart.
05:28Here, Posner sounds like he's reflecting on the emptiness of the party lifestyle while
05:33the party is happening. The Ibiza remix was a huge hit, topping the charts in numerous countries and
05:39getting more than 1 billion streams on Spotify.
05:50Electronic remixes of acoustic songs don't always work out,
05:54but Posner and Sieb have a special kind of bond.
05:57Number 5. It's Like That – Run DMC vs. Jason Nevins
06:01With its booming drums, It's Like That is a natural fit for a house remix.
06:14Producer Jason Nevins took Run DMC's classic song about encouraging people to not give up
06:19and gave it a new dance floor vitality. Rappers Run and DMC's message is still clear,
06:25it's just amplified by some harder beats. It's not often you hear a club banger about
06:36struggling to pay bills, but the It's Like That remix became an international hit.
06:50It even managed to break the Spice Girls' impressive streak of number ones in the UK.
06:54Don't like that? Well, that's the way it is.
06:57Number 4. Tom's Diner – DNA Remix
07:00DNA featuring Suzanne Vega
07:02The original Tom's Diner is completely acapella, making for endless remix possibilities.
07:16British electronic duo DNA didn't just create a good remix of Suzanne Vega's song,
07:22they arguably made the definitive version of it. Mashing up Vega's vocals with the beat for Soul
07:28to Soul's Keep On Movin', DNA turned a low-key narrative into a rhythmic adventure.
07:40Three years after its original release, Tom's Diner became a top 10 hit in multiple countries.
07:46While Vega's voice sounds great with no accompaniment, the extra layers of the remix show that sometimes
07:51going further can work wonders.
08:01Number 3. Summertime Sadness Remix – Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais
08:07Lana Del Rey's music evokes feelings of nostalgia for a romanticized version of the past.
08:19But this remix is pure 2010's Bliss. Taking Del Rey's sweeping ballad about sunshine and depression,
08:26French DJ Cedric Gervais put out all the production stops in his remix, with hand claps, drum rolls,
08:32eccentric synths, and more.
08:41Del Rey's vocals and her bittersweet lyrics are still the stars of the show, but Gervais just
08:47gives them more support. The Summertime Sadness Remix became one of Del Rey's biggest hits,
08:52reaching the top 10 in numerous countries, and unsurprisingly, she and Gervais worked together again.
09:05Number 2. I'll Be There For You – You're All I Need To Get By – Method Man featuring Mary
09:11J Blige
09:12Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man isn't the first artist that comes to mind when you think of romantic
09:17songwriters. But he managed to pull off an effective love song with All I Need.
09:29Then, he topped it on this remix. By bringing in Mary J Blige, All I Need turned into a new
09:35hip-hop
09:36classic.
09:44Producer RZA's beat goes harder, with prominent horns and spacey synths,
09:49and Blige's heavenly vocals are a great contrast to Meth's gruffer tone. There are plenty of hip-hop
09:55love songs out there, but few manage to achieve the passion of this one. You might feel like this
10:00song is all you need to get by. Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring

10:29If there's any artist who can get away with titling a song Flawless, it's Beyoncé.
10:41The original song is a trap-inspired ode to Beyoncé's home city of Houston and female empowerment,
10:47featuring the iconic phrase,
10:49I woke up like this. But the remix, featuring Nicki Minaj, is even better. This was the first
10:55collaboration between these two superstars, and they bring out the best in each other.
11:05Beyoncé's lyrics are altered some, with some more explicit lines added,
11:09while Minaj gives one of her most explosive verses ever.
11:19If this song isn't actually flawless, it's as close as they come.
