00:00Final set!
00:01Law, what are we doing today?
00:03Kick if you go off the show.
00:06Elimination, that's my favorite part.
00:08Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most infamous judges to have ever been
00:14on reality competition shows.
00:16You're telling me, Joseph, that you are 28 years old.
00:19Why, do you think I don't work 28?
00:21Well, no, I don't.
00:25Number 10, Ellen DeGeneres, American Idol.
00:28I loved it. I thought, you have such a great look, and you sounded fantastic, and I did like the
00:33song.
00:33In rehearsal, I was kind of worried that it was going to be a tough song, but I thought you
00:36pulled it off.
00:37This singing competition is no stranger to questionable judge selections.
00:41The heated rivalry between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey during the 12th season was so severe that it impeded filming
00:47and dominated headlines.
00:49However, the most questionable decision that American Idol made was replacing Paula Abdul with Ellen DeGeneres.
00:56Viewers quickly noticed that the talk show host didn't have much to add to the conversation, whether it was a
01:01critique or a joke.
01:02Danny, step to your left a little bit.
01:06Claire, step forward, and then step back real quick.
01:09You're all going through.
01:11She seemed to fade to the background of her own panel, allowing the others to dig the reins while she
01:16remained uncharacteristically demure.
01:18She stepped back from the position following the end of the season, claiming it was due to her discomfort over
01:22harshly criticizing contestants.
01:24We're just finishing our first night of Hollywood week.
01:28Yeah, what'd you think?
01:29It was great.
01:30It was fun.
01:30It's hard being, giving bad news.
01:33That's hard.
01:33Number nine, Santino Rice, RuPaul's Drag Race.
01:36I think as an entertainer, amazing.
01:39As far as your style, I think it's lacking.
01:45Either you're born with style or you're not.
01:48He's proof that switching up the judging panel isn't always a bad call.
01:51For the first six seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race, Santino Rice served as the resident fashion expert.
01:56While his critiques on design were valid, it was clear to the participants and viewers alike that his knowledge of
02:01drag was non-existent.
02:03I don't mind that outfit.
02:05It's not like he's coming out here in a career woman.
02:08No, but the construction was just a disaster.
02:10Some fans also felt that he was unnecessarily contradictory just for the sake of it.
02:14Multiple queens have spoken out against him and his scathing comments,
02:18and have even said that they're glad he was fired from his position.
02:21He made me feel horrible and did not relent.
02:25Maybe he said a couple nice things, but yeah, I'm glad he's not a judge anymore.
02:30Rice has continued down a path of controversy since then,
02:33with health and political opinions so antithetical to the show that it's hard to believe he was once a part
02:38of it.
02:39These judges may be controversial, but you know what everyone can agree on?
02:42That tuning in to Miss Mojo's 24-7 live stream is the best way to spend your day.
02:47Scan the QR code on the screen now for endless pop culture fun.
02:51Number 8, Piers Morgan.
02:52For you and for you to have the gall to stand there and try and compare yourself to Mel B,
02:58you've had number ones all around the world.
03:00It's frankly an insult to the judging panel.
03:03It should come as no surprise that a man known for unfiltered opinions would be a divisive pick at best.
03:09Whether it was judging his own countrymen on Britain's Got Talent or American acts on America's Got Talent,
03:15Piers Morgan was never afraid to hurt a contestant's feelings.
03:18The last time I really laughed was when I saw the video for Jump in My Car by David Hasselhoff.
03:23He was cast to be the bad cop, and he fulfilled his role to an uncomfortable degree.
03:28He seemed to find joy in tearing people down,
03:30whether he was brutally insulting beloved acts or making children cry during their auditions.
03:37What's the matter?
03:39Sorry, leave this to me.
03:41He was also a fan of rejecting acts simply because he was bored by them.
03:44His tenure on both programs was the ultimate proof that a mean judge needed much more than just insults to
03:50be entertaining.
03:51Number 7, Jeffrey Boyer Chapman, Canada's Drag Race.
03:55That's right.
03:56Each week, all three of us will decide who stays and who sashays away.
04:03As we've seen with Piers, there's a certain art to being a reality competition's mean judge.
04:08It's a fine line between iconic and cruel.
04:11And unfortunately for Jeffrey Boyer Chapman, his time on Canada's Drag Race fell into the latter category.
04:17During the show's first season, his criticisms were viewed as more harsh than they needed to be.
04:22From commenting on a contestant's body, to speaking to others in a condescending tone,
04:27fans were quick to make their dislike of him well known.
04:30You always know how to wrap it in foil, steam it, and serve it up good.
04:37But tonight when you came out, were you fully cooked or just half-baked?
04:42Some even made a petition calling for him to be fired.
04:45However, many of his dissenters proved to be just as cruel as he was.
04:49And he received so much hate that he stepped down after just one season.
04:54We are given a very limited amount of time to construct these looks, paint our faces, prepare.
05:00I hear you, girl.
05:01Everyone gets the same amount of time.
05:04Use it better, maybe.
05:05Number 6, Gordon Ramsay, Hell's Kitchen.
05:09Oh my god, leave it, leave it, leave it!
05:13Just f***ing leave it!
05:15You're gonna blow fire in your face, you f***ing donkey!
05:19For the last two decades, he's taken tense kitchen environments and cranked the intensity up to an 11.
05:25While Gordon has lent his judging talents to several cooking shows over the years,
05:29Hell's Kitchen is where he crosses the thin line between sternness and pure fury.
05:34He has no qualms when it comes to insulting competitors, whether he's mocking their cooking skills or their general intelligence.
05:42Calm down, listen to him, and you pay a little bit of respect.
05:46And if you do your job, and you do your job, we'll come together.
05:50Because right now, you're turning the whole place upside down.
05:53Ramsay's also no stranger to snapping and screaming at chefs.
05:57While it makes for entertaining TV, his behavior has been called out for perpetuating toxic culture found within the food
06:03industry.
06:04Why are you doing this?
06:05You're just adding the lettuce to the tomato and the cucumber, you're not sautéing the lettuce?
06:09Chef, I was in a side pan sautéing the tomatoes and the cucumber, chef.
06:13But I did it wrong, chef.
06:14Other programs have proven that he has a nice side, leading fans to wish they could see that side of
06:19him more often.
06:20Number five, Natalia Kills and Willy Moon, The X Factor.
06:24I am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband.
06:28From the hair to the suit, do you not have any value or respect for originality?
06:35While some judges are released from their positions, at least they usually finish the season out first.
06:40But during the first live show for the second season of The X Factor,
06:43Natalia Kills and her husband Willy Moon went in so hard on a singer that they were fired shortly afterward.
06:49I am embarrassed to be sitting here, in your presence, having to even dignify you with an answer of my
06:58opinion.
06:59It all started when Joe Irvine dared to wear a suit and tie on stage,
07:03leading Kills to accuse him of copying Moon and viciously insult him.
07:08Moon then compared Irvine to a fictional serial killer.
07:12Again, all just because he'd worn a suit.
07:14Needless to say, this was not well-received by the fans or the world at large.
07:19The pair was called out, which led to their swift removal mid-season.
07:23Fans of the show rallied against Kills and Moon,
07:25and an online petition was created asking TV3 to fire the two judges.
07:30It received more than 70,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.
07:34Number four, Janice Dickinson, America's Next Top Model.
07:38They're all fat. The entire room is fat. I'm fat. You're all fat.
07:42Although the industry the contestants were trying to break into is known for being harsh,
07:46that still isn't an excuse to blatantly insult them.
07:50It seems that Janice missed that memo during her tenure on America's Next Top Model.
07:54Don't get me wrong, she had the experience and the credentials to justify her place on the panel.
07:58But rather than act as a mentor, she instead opted for harsh commentary.
08:03This photograph looks like the batteries died in her vibrator.
08:07She had no qualms about insulting someone's weight or looks, often in very blunt fashion.
08:12Dickinson's been called out by fans over the years, but that hasn't done much to change her tune.
08:16She's defended every hurtful comment she's ever made while on the show, insisting that it was only acting.
08:22Do you have any regrets about things you said during your time as a judge on ANTM?
08:27Uh, no, it was acting, and that's that.
08:30Number three, Simon Cowell.
08:32It was not the song why you didn't get through.
08:36I know, it was probably the personality and everything else in the presence of the song, but I didn't feel
08:41the darn...
08:42It wasn't the song!
08:43Every judge hired to be the heel of their show has this man to thank.
08:47Throughout his television career, Kyle has built his entire reputation on scathing commentary.
08:52This was most evident on American Idol, where he found ways to insult most of the participants for their perceived
08:58lack of talents, looks, and personalities.
09:01Young girl, get out of my mind.
09:04Hi Joseph, I can't better listen to this anymore, please.
09:07I'm 44, you're older than me.
09:09You're 44?
09:10Yeah, how old are you really, Joseph?
09:11I thought you was 35.
09:12He was often so cutting that he soon earned the name Mr. Nasty amongst fans.
09:17His blunt attitude carried on to other programs he worked on, which only further cemented his controversial reputation.
09:24Cowell has since come forward to apologize for his behavior and express regret for some of the things he's said.
09:29But he's also noted that without his blunt criticism, the franchise probably would not be where it is today.
09:34You just blanked one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
09:40Murdered?
09:41That's right, you just murdered.
09:48Number two, Donald Trump, The Apprentice.
09:51Marcus, did you know that Clay was gay?
09:53Yes, I did.
09:54He, when we first got...
09:55Did everybody know this?
09:56Yes.
09:57Because I didn't know in the beginning.
09:59So you don't find Oliver very attractive then?
10:01No.
10:01And you don't find Felicia very attractive?
10:03They're beautiful women, but they're not my thing.
10:04All right.
10:05Though he's never been known for his tact, his tenure as both a host and judge showed how crass he
10:10could be.
10:10While working on The Apprentice, Donald Trump was no stranger to making questionable comments to or about various competitors.
10:18Nearly two dozen former participants have come forward since the series ended.
10:22They allege that Trump would make perverse comments about the women who competed,
10:25from observations about their bodies to the intimate acts he wanted to have with them.
10:29Excuse me, you dropped to your knees?
10:32Yes.
10:32I begged to do this, and I said, I'm looking around the room, and we had even Latoya who sat
10:36beside me, thought maybe Brandy was right.
10:38Must be a pretty picture you dropping to your knees.
10:39They also claimed that he would ask the men inappropriate questions about their fellow contestants.
10:43Although Trump's crude on-screen remarks already hadn't aged well,
10:47they seem even more glaring now in light of serious allegations against him and leaked recordings of his real-life
10:53behavior.
10:53You know, I'm automatically attracted to beautiful.
10:56I just start kissing them.
10:57It's like a magnet.
10:58You just kiss.
10:59I don't need to do it.
11:00And when you're a star, they let you do it.
11:02You can do anything.
11:03Number one, Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model.
11:07Today, you guys are going to learn about acting!
11:08Come on, where?
11:09What about acting?
11:10Acting, acting, acting!
11:12That was fake!
11:13That was a good job.
11:14Good job!
11:15Janice wasn't the only contentious judge to sit on that panel.
11:19One of the most consistently controversial presences on America's Next Top Model was the host herself, Tyra Banks.
11:25She's been criticized heavily for her behavior towards contestants on the show, many of whom have come forward to recount
11:31their experiences with the former supermodel.
11:33I think that she is also probably under insane contracts and probably signed her life away in the contracts knowing
11:40that she was going to hurt other girls.
11:41From insisting that models significantly alter their looks to having them participate in sensationalized photo shoots, it seemed that Banks
11:48was kind of more set on humiliating the participants than actually mentoring them.
11:52Rather than truly reflect on these accusations, Banks has simply filed a lawsuit against the Netflix documentary and moved on
11:58to Project Runway, although some have accused her of doing it just to get away from the drama.
12:03The supermodel claiming that the streaming giant's recent doc about America's Next Top Model used selective editing, deliberate omission, and
12:11surgical manipulation to create a false and defamatory narrative.
12:15You have no idea what we have planned.
12:17Which controversial reality TV judge do you find the most entertaining? Let us know in the comments.
